Chapter 59
General P.O.V:
Callie yawned as she walked across the hall to Noah's room. It had been a rough night for both of them. It was the first night she had spent without her wife in a while and she couldn't sleep if her life depended on it and not to mention, Noah was up and down most of the night as well. As she entered her 11-month-olds room, she could hear soft babbles coming from her son's crib causing a tired giggle to escape her lips.
"Oh, good morning, my Mijo," she coos as she approached the side of the crib, "I would ask if you slept well, but we both know that's a no," Callie chuckled, lifting Noah from his bed, "Were going to see Mommy and Aunt Teddy today," She lays Noah on his changing table and grabs a diaper from the drawer, "Yeah, Mommy called last night and said Aunt Teddy was too tired to have any visitors and that we should wait until morning. How about we get a bath this morning? Wanna be nice and clean when we see Mommy and Auntie Teddy right?" Noah looks at Callie, his piercing blue eyes never leaving hers.
After getting Noah into his car seat, Callie climbed in behind the wheel. She pulled her phone from her pocket and shot her wife a text letting her know she was on the way.
After about ten minutes, she was pulling into the visitor's parking lot of Seattle Grace Hospital. Grabbing Noah from his seat, they headed in and up to the maternity ward. The door was slightly open when she approached Teddy's room. So instead of walking in, she gives a soft knock.
"Come in," she hears Teddy call out. When she entered the room, her mouth nearly drops to the floor. When Arizona called her the night before, she mentioned that Teddy had the baby but then told her to wait until the morning to come up, but nothing prepared her for what she had walked into this morning. Arizona was in the chair next to Teddy's bed holding a small bundle wrapped up in a small blue, pink and white hospital blanket with a blue cap covering the little ones head, same goes for Teddy. She was also holding a bundle with a matching blanket and cap. Callie stood there, her feet were glued to the floor, unable to move or speak. When she tried to find the words, she tried to open her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. She was left stunned at the sight before her.
"What's wrong, Calliope? Cat got your tongue this morning?" Arizona laughed.
"I-I thought you said Teddy had the baby?" Callie stuttered out.
"She did," Arizona laughed again.
"Yeah, but you never said she had twins," Callie exclaimed.
"Oh, did I forget to mention that? My bad," Arizona smiled at her wife.
"Trust me, Callie, I was just as shocked as you are," Teddy says to her sister-in-law with a laugh. She couldn't help but smile at the cheeky grin her wife had displaying on her face. Watching her wife cradle the little bundle in her arms made her heart flutter.
"Do you want to hold your nephew?" Arizona asks.
"Which one?" Callie asks, looking between both babies she and Teddy were holding.
"Take your pick. There's two," Teddy joked. Callie just laughed, then moved further into the room. She sat on the arm of the chair next to Arizona with Noah in her lap. The little guy began to whimper, but watched as Arizona slowly rocked him a little to sooth him. Her smile grows wider, then leans over to whisper in her wife's ear.
"We should have another baby," she whispered. Arizona stares up at her wife with a raised brow
"Excuse me?" Arizona questions, her eyes never leaving Callie's.
"You heard me," Callie says again with a wide grin.
Callie's P.O.V:
It had been a long week for both Arizona and I. Since Tim's been shipped out, then the unexpected birth of his and Teddy's boys, Arizona and I have been shuffling back and forth between our house and the apartment, trying to help out the new mother due to her mom not being able to make it in to help. So, Arizona and I were happy to help. Since Teddy helped us out a lot with Noah when he was a newborn we felt that it was only fair that we returned the favor. With the twins being week old, Teddy still hadn't emailed Tim to tell him about the birth. She wanted to surprise him somehow and didn't want to say anything through email. So, after a few days of us all putting our heads together, we finally came up with something. I was able to send an email out to my brother-in-law to see if we could arrange a way to video chat, that way we all could see him and see his reaction and tonight was that night.
Arizona and I were in the kitchen getting dinner prepared. The comment I made to her about wanting another baby pops into my head.
"So, are we going to talk about what I said to you at the hospital last week?" I casually say to my wife. She's got baby Logan in her arms and she gently rocks him and smiles.
"And what comment would that be, Calliope?" she asks, never taking her eyes off the newborn in her arms.
"The one where I said I wanted another-"
"You wanted another baby?" she asks, finally looking up at me.
"Yeah, that one. Are we going to talk about it?"
"Yeah, we will, eventually," she says, letting out a sigh.
"How about we talk now?" I suggested.
"Calliope..." we were soon interrupted by the sound of Teddy's Skype ring going off.
"Guys, he's calling," Teddy announces from the living room.
"Oh this is it," she squeals, changing the subject. She flashes me a dimpled smile, then heads towards the living room, leaving me standing in the kitchen alone. She stands off to the side with Logan in her arms, waiting for Teddy's signal, "you coming, Calliope?"
"I'll be right there," I say, letting out a sigh. After collecting myself, I join my family in the living room. I quickly pick Noah up off the floor and stand off to the side so that Tim can't see me, but still be able to see his reaction.
"Everyone ready?" Teddy asks, a wide grin spreading across her face.
"Let's do this," Arizona pipes up. Teddy adjusts Lucas in her arms to where he's facing the screen, then hits the green answer button. A second later, Tim's face comes into view. The smile on his face widens at the site of his new son.
"Hey, Babe," Teddy greets her husband.
"Hey yourself," Tim replies with a smile, "is that who I think it is?"
"It is," Teddy smiles, "This is your son, Lucas. Lucas, this is your Daddy," Arizona and I stand and watch the interaction between the new father and his son.
"So, this was my surprise huh? That you had our son?" Tim asks, smile still visible.
"Part of it, but...oh, hold on, I think he needs a new diaper," Teddy says, standing from her spot on the couch and walking toward the bedroom, "Arizona, why don't you go talk to your brother for a minute while I go change Lucas," which was Arizona's cue. I watch as my wife takes Teddy's spot on the couch, with Logan secured in her arms. Tim watched as his sister got Logan situated to where he was facing the computer screen. I watch Tim scrunch his face up in confusion. I bite the inside of my mouth to keep myself from laughing.
"Wait...I thought Teddy said he needed a diaper change?" Tim questions.
"Oh she did," Arizona says with a laugh.
"Then why do you have him?" he asks, scratching his head. He's still confused about why Arizona had his son even though Teddy told him she was doing a diaper change.
"Okay, time to swap me places," Teddy shouts, walking back into the living room. Arizona stands from the couch and moves to stand next to me. Teddy reclaims her spot with Lucas in her arms again.
"Okay, are you going to tell me what's going on?" Tim asks, shaking his head. Teddy gives her husband a smile, before responding.
"What do you mean?" A smirk played at the corner of her mouth.
"I'm talking about the fact that you were holding Lucas, then told me you were going to go change him, but then, when Zona sat down, she had him in her arms. So, clearly, you weren't changing him," Teddy looks over to Arizona and I with a grin, then back at the screen.
"Well...you see, I was in changing Lucas, and told Arizona to come talk to you, that way she could introduce you to Logan,"
"Huh? Who's Logan?" Tim asks, still confused by everything. Arizona chuckled as she moved to take a seat next to Teddy to where both babies were seen.
Tim falls silent for what seems like forever. I watch as he tries to say something, but no words come out.
"Tim, honey, I need you to say something," Teddy laughs nervously.
"Teddy, baby, I really need you to tell me what is going on. Did Arizona and Callie have another baby? I mean, seriously, if she had, I would've known she was pregnant. She-she.."
"Sweetie, Arizona, and Callie didn't have another baby," Teddy interrupts his rambling with a laugh, "This here is Lucas James and this is here is Logan Daniel, your twin boys,"
"We had twins?"
"We did," Teddy says, shaking her head in confirmation.
"Well, that went well," Arizona says, climbing under the covers on her side of the bed. I follow her lead, and climb under the covers as well, but sit up, where I'm leaning against the headboard.
"Yeah, it did. So..." I say, stopping mid-sentence.
"So..what?" she asks, staring at me waiting for me to say whatever it was I was wanting to say.
"I want to talk about last week,"
"Calliope..." she groans, throwing the covers off of her, then sits up to where she's now leaning against the headboard.
"What? Why can't we talk about it now?"
"Because it's eleven o'clock at night and I'm exhausted. Can't we just put this conversation off for another night?"
"Look, all I am saying is that I would love for us to have another baby,"
"And I'm saying that it's late and I'm ready for bed," she snapped.
"So, we're not going to talk about this? We're going to put it off for another week as you had?"
"I'm not doing this tonight, Callie. I'm not going to be up for another hour or two fighting with you about this,"
"Fighting about what? All I asked was to talk about what was said last week,"
"I don't want another baby right now," she snaps out, "we have too much going on right now with you and the studio, with Noah, and with...then there is Noah's first birthday. It's just not the right time,"
"With what? What else is there? Besides Teddy and the boys? Is there something else going on that you aren't telling me about?" She stays silent for what seems like hours, "I want an answer. Is there someone else?"
"What? No. Of course, there isn't, Calliope. It's just that..." she starts, but stops again.
"Then what? What else is there stopping us from having another baby?"
"Well, there's the fact that I'm only 20 years old and maybe..."
"What? Maybe what?"
"Maybe, I want to try and go back to school," There's an answer I wasn't expecting. I knew she had dropped out after finding out about Noah, but she never mentioned to us in the year that we had been together that she wanted to go back to school.
"How long have you been thinking about it?"
"Since the letter..." Letter? What letter?
"And what letter would that be?" She doesn't reply. She just smiles at me, then leans over and opens her nightstand. She pulled out a huge white envelope that read Seattle University.
"When did you get this?" I ask as she hands me the envelope.
"It arrived a couple of days after the twins were born. I came home to get Noah some extra one day while you were at work and decided to check the mail and this was in there,"
"I'm guessing you opened it already?" I ask her.
"I have," she admits, "I got in. I applied for the Fall Semester, which starts in a couple weeks,"
"Arizona, baby, that is awesome!" I say, leaning over and connecting our lips together. She's the first to break from our lip lock.
"So, you're not mad?" She asks.
"Why would I be mad that my wife decided to go back to school? I think it's fantastic. What are you going to be studying?"
"Well, I was thinking about continuing what I was studying before. I mean, my very hot sexy wife is a music producer, so why not continue where I started before. Music. We can even run the studio together,"
"I think that's great. I'd be honored to have my wife as my business partner," I say, leaning over to connect our lips again, but again, she pulls back.
"Whenever I'd come see you, I enjoy watching how you strike up relationships with the artists you sign, and I just love how you kick ass to get stuff done, I just thought that maybe we could kick ass together,"
"That would be amazing," I say to her, giving her my best Torres smile, "but do you know what would be even more amazing?"
"What's that?," she asks, leaning in for another kiss.
"Making love to my wife,"
