Lee came back down a few days later. He had planned to make a grand gesture of winning Kestra back but had come to the conclusion that she would hate that. He trusted that he knew her enough to know that she would rather he simply explain his thoughts and feelings rather than receive some grand public apology. She was uncomfortable enough within the colonies' occupants, she didn't need him drawing attention to her. Lee showed up at her tent and was greeted by Laura.

"Lee," she said witheringly, "back already?" He wondered how much of their conversation Kestra had told Laura.

"I know, but I didn't get to explain myself fully last time. Is she here?" he asked. Laura nodded and moved aside so he could enter.

"Lee's here," she said. Lee ducked into the tent and found Kestra reading on a chair across the room. She looked up and studied his face. When he smiled at her, she smiled back. Seeing this exchange, Laura felt she was safe to leave them alone. "I'll be back later, Kestra," she said as she grabbed a jacket. Kestra mouthed a 'thank you' to her as she walked by and out the door. Kestra then closed her book and turned her attention to Lee.

"It's good to see you," she said, "do you want to sit down?" Lee nodded in appreciation as he sat in the chair she had indicated.

"Thank you," he said. They sat in silence. Kestra smiled.

"Did you have something to say?" she asked, "I don't think you came all the way down here just to chat." She raised an amused brow as Lee blushed slightly.

"I uh, I wanted to finish the conversation we had a few days ago," he said. She nodded.

"Okay," she said, "what did you want to talk about?"

"I thought a lot about what you said, and… I've always used Starbuck ground me on Galactica. She makes me being aboard a military ship make sense. I've never had to try to explain my being here alone, because it doesn't make sense. I'm not a soldier, and this isn't something I would do. So maybe I felt like I was losing that, and I tried to get her back the only way I knew how. Her relationship with Sam was taking her away, so a relationship with me would stop that," he explained. Kestra nodded in understanding. When she didn't speak, he continued. "But you see, that's why I need you. You know me, the real me, not the me that's trying to impress his father or force himself to be a good soldier. I know we can't just pick up where we left off but is there any way we can work our way back to…" Lee trailed off and looked at her steadily.

"I can understand the pressure you are under to please your father and to be a good soldier, and I can see how Starbuck helps with that. I want us to be friends Lee. I've missed you," she admitted, "I just worry that if it goes any further, we're both going to get hurt." Lee shook his head.

"No, I'll never hurt you again," he insisted.

"Don't make promises you can't keep, Lee," she said firmly, "I worry that I may expect more things from you that you aren't prepared for, so as long as we agree to communicate with each other to avoid more… of this, I think we can make this work." Lee beamed.

"You mean-"

"What I mean is, would my friend like to go for a walk with me?" she asked standing up and crossing to the door. Lee furrowed his brow for a moment before realizing what she'd said and following her with a smile.
