Edit: Fixed the repeating section for Chapter 20!

A bored looking MP yawned, as he passed, only Alto, Annie, and another boy with a bowl cut saluted.

"Yeah yeah at ease or whatever." He scratched his head, "So, I'm Captain Dennis Aiblinger and I'll be your commanding officer until you recruits get commands of your own. I'll be giving you stuff to do, not like there's much of that going around. Breakfast is at 9:30 at the Mess Hall, Lunch is at 12:00 PM, and Dinner is at 6:00. Other than that there's not that much to tell you, dismissed." Once through he shuffled into an officers room, Alto could hear him say, "Alright, my turn." before he shut the door.

"That was…" Alto began,

"If my father could see this, he'd be furious." Astell confessed.

"He has seen this." Said a new voice, but a voice Alto would recognize anywhere.

"Grandpa Dante!" Alto said in surprise.

"Reunions later. Right now, Alto, you need to whip these sorry fools into shape." He said bitterly

"I'm just a recruit…" Alto began,

"You won't be for long! Make sure you stand out. Make them promote you." Dante said with feverish anger.

'As much as he sounds eccentric. He's right, the MPs have become disgustingly lazy and corrupt.' Alto thought to himself, 'Maybe I'll just become Commander of the Military Police after I kill Rod Reiss.'

The Next Day

Alto sat off by himself as the new MP recruits ate breakfast. He was slightly startled when someone sat next to him, looking to his right side, he saw Annie sitting quietly next to him, eating a sausage.

"Am I not allowed to sit here?" She said at last.

"No. It's just I didn't expect you to sit here." Alto replied.

"Good. Now stop staring, it's weird and makes me uncomfortable."

Alto turned back to his breakfast and began to eat.

"Why'd you join the MPs?" Annie asked him suddenly, and Alto paused.

"Where's this coming from all of a sudden?" Alto asked,

She shrugged, "Curious. Everyone but you, me, and Marco joined the Scout Regiment. Marco I definitely expected, but honestly, you seem more disposed to be a Scout."

"I have something I need to do. And I need to be an MP to do it."

"What do you 'need to do'?"

"That's my business."

"Hey, mind if I sit down here?" Marco walked over to them,

"There's space. So I guess?" Annie told him,

"Thanks!" Marco sat, "I really didn't expect Humanities Best Soldiers to be so…"

"Lazy?" Alto finished for him,

"Yeah. I mean, I grew up with all these tales of the 9th Commander of the MPs, Dante Burke. Can't help but think that he'd be disappointed to see how lax the MPs have become."

'More like downright pissed.' Alto thought to himself as he sipped some water.

"Expect the least, and you will not be disappointed." Annie said to him.

"Still! That shouldn't be true for the MPs!" Marco said indignantly

"So what's your idea?" A girl with platinum blonde hair slunk up behind Marco. "Not like you can do much."

"He has a point though Hitch." Another MP recruit, a boy with a hook nose and bowl cut black hair

"You agree because you're a stiff like him, Marlowe." Hitch replied mockingly.

"You say stiff, I say advocate for change."

"MP preparation is pretty important." Alto agreed. "Now that there's the possibility of shifters within our ranks." Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Annie stiffen. He brushed it aside.

"Seriously? Where'd you get that idea from?" Hitch rolled her eyes.

"The Armored and Colossal Titans are clearly intelligent. And Eren exists. Doesn't he? Who's to say that the Armored and Colossal Titan's can't also take human form?"

"Do us all a favor and let's not start the Eren Jaeger argument."

"I'm not saying Eren Jaeger's an enemy." Alto shrugged, "I'm just saying the Armored and Colossal probably have the same abilities."

"It's too early to discuss this, and my head's beginning to hurt." Hitch placed a hand on her forehead.

Alto turned back to his food, 'I'm in the Military Police now. It's time to make a plan.'

Some days later

As an MP, Alto discovered he had long free periods. Sometimes, lasting whole days. So he decided to begin his search for Rod Reiss.

He headed to the stables to grab his horse, a stubborn filly named Rosarie, and he decided he'd begin his search in the first place he knew. The Reiss Estate in Wall Rose.

"They aren't there." Astell said.

"What?" Alto cocked his head in curiosity.

"After what Grisha did they would have undoubtedly moved."

"Who's Grisha?"

"I'll...tell you sometime later." There was an unusual emotion in his voice, Alto wasn't sure, but he almost thought it was shame.

"Dad-" But Astell had already left his mind, Alto tried sifting through his memories, but he was cruelly rebuffed by a spirit barrier.

'Dad is still hiding secrets…' He thought, 'At least he gave me something useful.' He turned around, and headed back for Headquarters.

Military Police Records

He walked up to the clerk, "I'd like to look through the records."

"Mhm." She said distractedly. "Go ahead." She took one glance at his uniform and said no more.

He headed toward the back, 'Reiss...Reiss.'

He finally found a folder saying "YEAR 845 REISS CHAPEL INCIDENT" He opened the folder

Several days after the Fall of Wall Maria. A Chapel owned by the Reiss family was laid to siege by a group of roaming bandits. Their numbers are estimated to be between thirty to sixty.

During the Raid, the Bandits looted the chapel before proceeding to set fire to it, trapping the entire Reiss family inside. Tragically, only Lord Rod Reiss survived the unfortunate incident.

Following an inspection of the Chapel, the bandits had inflicted severe damage. With entire sections of roofing and wall having collapsed. As well as the interior being completely destroyed.

Several weeks later, the Chapel was rebuilt using funds from Lord Reiss's possessions. Where he continued to resume services.

The rest was various footnotes, and even without what his father told him. Alto knew this report was crap. There were simply too many holes and contradictions. How would a group of bandits so completely destroy a stone chapel and in a single night without artillery, and the even bigger question, why? And then there was more, why would such a large group of bandits attack such a church? One could say they were planning to take the Reiss family hostage. But as the report stated, most of them died, and Rod Reiss got away anyway, so it was pointless.

"After what Grisha did…" His father made it sound like it was a one man thing, so unless Grisha is some kind of organization leader, it pointed to one inevitable fact.

Reiss Chapel was attacked by the former Attack Titan shifter. But that in and of itself carried more questions. Why would Grisha attack the Reiss Family? And how did he know the Reiss Family would be at the Chapel?

He put the report back on the shelf. Reiss Chapel would offer no clues, and Grisha was dead. If the transfer of the Founding Titan was any indicator, Grisha was eaten by Eren Jaeger. But why Eren? What was Grisha's relation to Eren Jaeger?

The memories were hidden in Eren's head. And for better or worse, Eren Jaeger, or rather Eren's memories, were the key to the mystery behind the Walls.

He thanked the clerk, and quickly left. His investigation had come to a close, for now.

Three Days Later

Kassandra Rivers stepped out of the carriage and thanked the driver for his service, as well as granted him a hefty tip. Tipping his cap, he cracked the reins and left.

She opened the door to her Wall Sina office building, preparing to grab her things and head back out. She headed upstairs to her office, and opened the door.

She froze when she looked around 'Someone's been here.' She cautiously stepped in. She knew the Reiss Family had spies watching this place 24/7, after all these years they still thought she was in contact with a surviving member of the Burke Family.

Looking around for any hastily set up traps or loosened parts. Finally her eyes fell on a plain piece of parchment, and on it merely had the words

Basement; Thursday at 2:30

She picked it up, the note was obviously written in haste. But the writing..she felt like she'd seen it somewhere, but whenever she fitted the pieces together, it just fell apart.

'This could be a trap. An elaborate ruse to assassinate you.' Her instincts warned, but something told her she wanted to see this person.

Pocketting the note, she decided she'd see what this was about. Thursday was some four days away, giving her some time to prepare 'Thursday it is.'

Another Four Days

Kassandra was nervous.

She was going to meet someone she did not know, and only had the courtesy to leave a note on her desk. For all she knew Kenny the Ripper could be waiting at the bottom of the stairs with a knife.

That was, of course, why she was bringing a gun. Holding it in her right hand, she kicked open the door to the basement, and whirled around preparing to fire.

"God, who were you expecting? Rod's pet reaper? It's been too long Aunt Kass."
