Super Comrade: I'll elaborate on everything, from their rifles to their planes and armored cars! I'm also glad that someone else thinks the same way as me in thinking Fine could be a seriously important character if Isayama bothered with it.

Ecahrt Region, three miles outside Komotini

"Down!" Someone shouted, and the Eldian soldiers ducked as an artillery shell detonated nearby.

"Damn!" One of them shouted, cocking his rifle before taking aim and firing, knocking down a charging Olturka soldier. "There's no end to this!"

Suddenly, they heard the light sound of engines as someone yelled "Armored vehicles!"

As soon as he said that, the soldiers ducked as machine-gun fire ripped into the ground in front of and behind the trench. Whoever was unlucky enough to be standing was ripped apart by rapid-fire bullets as the Olturka armored cars advanced upon them.

"(The new Armored divisions are proving successful Büyük General.)" Or-General Jinad smiled, turning to Izzet Ahmed.

"(They can mow down as many devils as necessary, yes.)" Ahmed nodded, "(But how will they fare when faced with the Armor or Warhammer?)"

Jinad had no response to that, and at that moment, an ensign came up to them, "(The Marleyan ranks have broken. We've spotted another trench system about a mile and a half-forward, but that's the final one before we reach the city itself.)"

"(We likely have three days.)" Izzet noted, "(Three days before the Titans arrive.)"

Jinad nodded, the main body of the Marleyan army might be delayed for weeks due to the demands of infrastructure and lines of communications, but due to their small size, Warrior Unit had no such concerns, and could easily be here within the next few days.

"We've lost the second trench line. Their armored companies are driving through our defensive, and without any artillery support…" Oberst Halden shook his head helplessly. "In two days, Konotini will be overrun. If we're lucky."

"If we're not?" Generalmajor Teren asked,

"Within the next day - or worse - half day."

Teren sighed, "We'll pull back the Marleyans first. Leave the Eldian conscripts to hold the line, we'll fall back to Kavalan, where we can use the rivers and elevation as a natural defense. Hopefully the Western Fleet will be here by then."

Halden nodded, "I'll let the officers now." and Teren dismissed him.

'I can only hope the Warriors will be here as well…'

"Pack only what's necessary!" Magath ordered, "We need to be there within the next three days, lest we lose Grecia to the enemy!"

The Liberio HQ was in panic as the Warrior Unit prepared to move out.

"Evangelica?" Fine found her in all the chaos,

"Fine!" Evangelica rushed over to her, "You shouldn't be here!"

"What's going on? All I see are soldiers rushing everywhere."

"We're leaving. The Mid-East Alliance declared war by bombing Liberio and we need to leave immediately."

"So that's why the sirens were going off earlier?"

"Yes."

Fine looked down, but Evangelica patted her on the head. "Don't think I've forgotten."

Fine looked up at her, and she continued. "I promised I'd take you out for tea when I got back. I intend to make good on it."

Fine hugged her sister, and her sister hugged her back. "Now go, the Kommandant won't be happy to find a Warrior wandering around."

The Warrior Unit and their families waved the Warriors off from Liberio. Except for the Tyburs, who would travel briefly to the front before - with the exception of Fine, who was staying in Liberio for training, and Evangelica who would remain on the front to fight - heading to their main estate in the Marleyan mainland.

Evangelica sat with the rest of the Warrior Unit.

"This sure is some shit timing." Porco sighed,

"It's perfect for the Mid-East. They couldn't give a shit about how convenient it is for us." Evangelica replied.

"Listen up Warriors." Magath called them to attention. Stella, Zeke, Reiner, Porco, Evangelica, Annie, and Pieck stood up and saluted.

"Pieck, until we can replace your Panzer Unit with some of the other Warriors from the 8th Class, we can't afford to have you on the frontlines. You'll be on supply duty."

"Jawohl, Kommandant."

"Reiner, Annie, Evangelica. You three will form our spear, we'll be relying on you in most offensives."

"Ja!" They said in unison.

"Zeke, you know the drill. Rear support."

"Ja, kommandant." He said dully.

"Stella. There's been a change of plans. We're attaching a company of 120 men to the Warrior Unit to support us, as such, you'll be serving both as the XO for the Warrior Unit and the CO of the 1st Independent Support Company."

She was shocked, but the shock was quickly replaced with excitement. "Jawohl, Kommandant!"

"We have about three days of straight traveling with a few periodic stops, enjoy yourselves," Magath said, before leaving for the officer's train car.

"You know, you could go to the officer's car," Evangelica noted,

"Too stuffy up there." Stella stretched, "I like you guys better."

"If you like us so much, grab us some drinks from the officer's car." Porco yawned,

"I would if Magath wasn't there. Besides, Evangelica has access to the Tyburs private car, just ask her to be your runner."

Evangelica sighed, "Don't even go there, remember we're still underage?"

"So?" Porco said, "The officers don't care."

"Yes, but my parents do." Evangelica said, "And besides, I only drink nice flavored wines. Not the pig piss you guys call beer."

"You're no fun." Porco groaned,

1.5 miles outside Komotini

"Listen up! Eldians! Your orders are to hold here no matter what the cost! Our officers will be guiding you from the rear, and providing artillery support! The Western Fleet will also be here within a few hours!" The PSA political officer told them, "In the meantime, your Marleyan officers will head back to help set up defenses in the rear!"

The Eldians looked ahead, focused and determined with fire in their eyes.

"This is your opportunity to be the next Hero of Karn! Follow in the brave Lieutenant Hauser's footsteps, and prove yourselves worthy of being Honorary Marleyans!" He saluted, "Glory to Marley!"

'You poor sons of bitches.'

"(Hmm.)" Kor-General Enver Kamal looked through his binoculars at the trench line below.

"(General, we can move in at any moment.)" An adjutant came up to him, "(The 3rd Armored company is ready to drive through their lines. Scouts say the enemy has approximately sixty infantry guns, other than that, they're helpless.)"

"(Tell Kor-General Kain Kazal to send his infantry in first, and we'll support them, The HSA-49s are notoriously difficult to replace.)"

"(Yes sir.)"

"(Hmph, of course, he pleads for our help. He's too scared to do it himself.)" Kazal sighed, "(Tell the men to prepare for an assault on the Marleyan trench line.)"

"(Yes, General.)"

A young Eldian soldier, barely 16, shook with nervousness.

"Hey, kid." A grizzled man with an unkempt beard said to him, "Quit shaking so much."

The boy looked at him, and whispered, "Aren't you nervous?"

"Nah." The man sighed,

"But we could die." The boy said the last word like it was the worst thing in the world.

"Listen, kid." The man sighed, "You wanna know why we aren't phased?" The boy nodded,

"Because we know we're expendable, kid." The man told him, "We all start the same way, drawn in by the promise of becoming a Marleyan, and finally getting rid of this-" He pointed to his grey armband. "-and finally living as something more than cattle. Finally being free." He laughed mirthlessly, "They propagate that idea during training with pretty words and empty promises. But the second bullets start flying, you realize pretty quickly what it all means. Every hope, every dream, every moment of pleasure or happiness no longer matters." He looked up over the trench as if expecting to find a Mid-East or Marleyan soldier staring down at them, "It doesn't matter how you lived. A bullet is a bullet. You can zig, you can zag, if it gets you it gets you. We all die."

The boy looked at him, shaken by his words. "You realize…that's treason right?"

He laughed, "In our world, truth is treason. I could care less about going to a work camp."

The boy looked at him, and his eyes, and looked down. "Do we…matter?" He asked,

The man looked at him, and slowly but surely, shook his head.

"No. No, we don't."

"(Listen up!)" The officer yelled from his command car. "(We - of the third Armored company and 20th Infantry Company will be spearheading an assault on the Marleyan 30th Balan Division!)"

"(Our snipers will disable enemy gun emplacements, while our armored cars will drive through their infantry!)" The officer turned, and lifting a whistle to his mouth, blew a shrill high shriek, signaling the beginning of the assault.

The armored cars began rolling forward, the HSA-49 Type Cs, which were equipped with 37mm cannons fired at the trenches, kicking up large amounts of dirt and dust as the shells detonated into the trenches. Soon, something else began to pour out of them.

Poison gas.

"G-gas shells!" Someone shouted,

"Kid!" The veteran soldier tossed the young boy a gas mask, which he caught and wrapped around himself.

"T-this is a war crime!" He cried,

"Yeah, but we're Eldian. They don't give a shit, and neither does Marley, all we are is justification."

"Where's the artillery?!" One soldier choked out, before collapsing to the gas.

"We need to go." The veteran told him,

"H-he's right! They said they'd support us with artillery!"

"There is no artillery. No Marleyan officers. Just us."

"What?"

"They abandoned us. They're withdrawing to Kavalan and they'll wait for the Western Fleet to show up in a few days."

"You're lying!"

"Look around!" He shouted, shaking the boy, "We're going to be killed! Marley doesn't care. The Alliance doesn't care. Hell, nobody cares but us, the victims!"

Next to them, a cannon shell detonated as they stared into each other's eyes.

"So…we're alone?"

"Yes, we're alone.

The armored cars paused right outside the range of the poison gas. Firing their machine guns into the gas in the hopes of striking down any masked Eldians.

"(Halt! Wait for the gas to clear before we advance!)" The officer shouted. Suddenly, several Eldian soldiers ran out of the gas blindly, shouting words of surrender.

"(Look at them! Running around like headless chickens!)" Jeering at them, several Mid-East soldiers6 took rifles and shot at them for sport, watching as they ran around to dodge bullets.

"(Quit messing around and kill them!)" The officer shouted, and they sighed, before slapping the turrets of the armored cars. The gunners aimed their machine guns and fired down at them. Ripping their bodies apart with bullets.

"(What a stiff, they're only devils…)" Some of the soldiers complained,

Inside Konotimi - Marleyan Military HQ

"Hurry up! Take what's valuable!" A fat officer shouted, grabbing bunches of jewelry the PSA managed to 'legally seize' from the Grecian population.

The Marleyan officers ran around, grabbing valuables and documents and loading them in trucks.

The Grecian and Eldian populace could only watch dully as the Marleyans evacuated themselves and the oligarchy.

Suddenly, in a satisfying twist of fate, Mid-East aircraft appeared over the city.

"(Altitude - 5,500 meters.)" The navigator co-pilot noted, "(Get us a bit lower.)" He told the pilot,

"(Copy that.)" The pilot tilted the joystick forward slowly, causing them to drop to about 5,000 meters.

"(Lining up bombsights…)" He studied the photograph of the Military Headquarters in Konotimi.

"(Now!)" He released the lever, letting the 14 bombs fall upon the city below.

The bombs crashed through the ceiling of the, detonatating and causing the building to catch fire and explode outward, sending a spray of glass and other debris everywhere. One unlucky loot truck was hit by a large piece of flaming wood, landing directly on the engine and crushing it. The Marleyans swarmed it, saving whatever they could before leaving it abandoned.

Next, came the artillery. As the Marleyans completed their 'evacuation', the civilians were left behind, caught in a war they never wanted.

Several days later…October 11th, 850

Before long, the Mid-East Army had conquered Konotimi. Sure enough, the half day prediction had come true.

"Konotimi has fallen." Stella told the warriors, in the mess hall of the ship they were traveling on. "And Kavalan is being bombed. The Mid-East Army has also driven into Bulwan and Romanci."

"That far? That can't be possible!" Evangelica stated, but Stella shook her head,

"The 2nd Balan Army was hit hard. And we don't have enough reserves to gather for a counteroffensive." Stella inhaled, "Also, they're deploying armored divisions which are ripping our men apart. The Marleyan Army is very poorly equipped to handle armored vehicles, since they're not common. Or they weren't until now."

"I've never gone up against armored units before." Evangelica said, "You know anything?"

"Only their name, Hızlı Saldırı Araba Modeli 49. Roughly translated to - Fast Assault Car Model 49, we just call them HSA-49s though."

"So they made cars with a little more armor, a titan can crush them like tin cans."

"(Fire!)" An Olturka officer ordered. A series of field guns fired in rapid succession. Lobbing shells at a city they could barely see.

"(We're running out of time…)" Ahmed noted, "(We need to take Kavalan within the next half day, and begin fortifying the frontline. How much AT weaponry do we have on the front?)"

"(We have 400 in the form of HSA-49 Type Cs. And another 1,440 in the form of 37mm towed anti-titan cannons.)"

"(Redeploy the 11th and 12th Armored Divisions to our front. And bring up the 6th Infantry Company and have their infantry support guns be replaced entirely with 37-millimeters.)"

"(Yes Büyük General!)"

Evangelica was on deck when she gasped, "Ships!"

Stella rushed beside her, then sighed in relief. "It's just the Western Fleet. We're approaching the port now, there's no way that's an Olturka fleet."

As the ships pulled into port, Generalmajor Teren himself came to meet them.

Teren was the embodiment of the image of a soldier. Unkempt beard, a wrinkly face with a half-lit cigar poking out of his mouth.

"Generalmajor Howard Teren, it's an honor Kommandant." He shook Magath's hand.

"Pleasure is mine." Magath said,

"It's as bad as you feared." Teren sighed, "The Mid-East Army has practically taken the Bulwan Coast. And Romanci's ports are on the verge of falling."

"What about the situation in Grecia?"

"Terrible. The Marleyan Army can't keep up with the Mid-East. In three days they've taken most of the total Echart region. It doesn't help that the Air Corps mostly consists of unarmed scout planes and zeppelins. Compared to the Olturka's modern air force, we have barely anything."

Magath nodded, it was no surprise that the Air Corps was lacking in technology. Nicknamed the "Titan Express" for their practical sole purpose of reconnaissance and dropping Titans on enemy territory.

"If I may come forward-" Stella pointed at the map, "Olturka forces are trying to drive as quickly as possible through Grecia, because they know that's where we'll show up. They've likely halted their advance outside Kavalan in order to begin fortifications."

"However, they expect we'll hit their defenses head on outside Kavalan. A foolish maneuver. However, they're expecting it, so I propose the following:

The 12th Balan Infantry will hit the Mid-East defenses head on, drawing the majority of their forces for the predicted counterattack. Then, I'll take the 1st Independent Support Company and we'll pierce their flank with support from the 13th Balan Infantry."

Magath looked over the map, "If we assaulted directly, they'd be forced to move their armored divisions." He paused. "It could work."

"Well, it's exactly what I was going to propose." Teren sighed, "I say we go with it. Your XO is smart, for an Eldian." He spat the last word out. Teren clearly disdained the idea of an Eldian officer here, a female one no less.

"The objective of this campaign should be Xanthli. By taking that city with a flanking attack, we can cut their lines of communication."

Howard nodded, wincing at yet another good point made by Stella.

"We need at least a week to gather our forces." Teren told them,

Suddenly, an adjutant burst in.

"Enemy attack!"

The initial weeks of the Marley-Mid East War were a series of devastating defeats for the overwhelmed Marleyan 2nd Balan Army. Without the support of other nearby armies or the Warrior Unit - which had just returned from it's Paradis Island Operation - it rapidly lost ground…
