Here we go
Washington was feeling tense and nervous. Sure, over the course of his career as a soldier and former Freelancer, he fought many battles and endured life threatening situations. But being transferred to a new world and having his body being reverted back to seventeen did have its setbacks. Wash was pretty sure he was going to face some type of grimm in class and he wasn't quite worried about that due to him and his friends having a skirmish with the monsters back at Forever Fall, but it was about having to display his skills in front of numerous students watching and having to impress his teacher that got him a bit high-strung.
It reminded him of his days at Project Freelancer when he was still a young and naïve rookie, having to perform a combat simulation in front of the best members of their organization; Carolina included, and to please the Director to prove if he was worthy of joining said organization.
He stood in front of his locker which displayed his full armor and his trusty battle rifle. The locker also had some spare ammunition and a couple of grenades, and contained his sidearm and combat knife. He removed his school uniform and slipped into his armor, inspecting each part and attaching it piece by piece, minus the helmet. The grey freelancer did a mandatory check of his firearm, making sure everything was in order, no parts were jammed and making a full sweep of the bits and bobs present in the gun. He strapped the rifle onto his back and grabbed enough ammo for it. Wash then grabbed his magnum and did the same maintenance check before loading it with some ammo and cocking it, then putting it in safety. He placed it in his magnetic thigh strap and grabbed the combat knife and sheathed it behind him. Lastly, he grabbed two grenades and stored it in his armor's compartment.
Before he went out, he looked at himself in his locker's mirror and offered an encouraging smirk to himself. "You got this Wash", he muttered and placed on his helmet. A quick scan of his helmet's HUD showed that everything was in working order and his shields were full and running.
The freelancer exited the locker room and made his way back to Port's classroom. Upon entering, all eyes were drawn to him again. He could make out some of the crowd were murmuring and speaking hushed conversations about him and probably his armor. Luckily, his face was covered by a tinted visor, masking his slightly nervous expression.
"Ho ho!" Port's voice boomed. "I see that you are indeed ready for any combat situation Mr. Washington. I must say, your armor is a fine piece of work that should cater to intense and rigid scenarios." he praised.
Back at the seats, Ruby can't help but gawk at Wash's battle armor. Her eyes were wide and her mouth hung open. A few seconds later, she gushed at how cool it is.
"Where did he get that armor? It looks so cool. I want one!" her voice sounded as if she were wishing for the gods to grant her that for her birthday.
"Geez Ruby, settle down." Yang chuckled "we did get a good look at it when we were at the Emerald Forest. But yeah, I share your sentiment." she echoed her sister's thoughts.
"He must have gotten it from Atlas." Weiss piped up. "No, not only him but them as well" she gestured to the reds and blues.
"And you're sure about that?" Yang raised her eyebrow at the heiress, "Tucker said that they were from Vale so they probably made them themselves."
Weiss huffed, refusing to believe it. "They probably just had them shipped from Atlas. No other kingdom is capable of designing armor that complex." The girl spoke with pride about her home kingdom. "I wonder why they didn't field test it with the military. How about I ask them later" she finished.
Yang, unsure whether she was telling the truth or making it all up to make the kingdom of Atlas sound good, dropped the conversation saying "Whatever you say Weiss-cream."
"I told you not to call me that!" Weiss snapped.
"You know, how about we cheer him on?" Yang suggested. She cupped her hands around her mouth and cheered "Go kick some butt Wash!"
"You got this!" Ruby followed right after.
"Break some legs!" Nora screamed.
Caboose heard it and yelled "Yeah! Go Agent Washingfell!"
Wash wasn't sure how many times Caboose butchered pronouncing his name. Many students looked funnily at Caboose and then at Washington, who tapped his foot awkwardly. Tucker meanwhile covered the side of his face to avoid the embarrassment and said "I don't know him. He's a stranger."
"Of course you know me Tucker! I'm your partner, which means that I know you too just fine." Caboose stated with finality. The blue flashed a wide smile at his partner while placing his balled fists on his hips.
"Gods, I hope that never comes true." Tucker grumbled as he slumped forward on his desk. Blake couldn't help but cover her mouth and chuckle silently at their display.
"He isn't that bad, you know." Blake started.
"Trust me, when you spend so much time around him like I did, you'd probably be pulling your hair every time he speaks."
Blake hummed as she looked at Caboose who was drawing a poster in attempt to cheer for his teammate.
Over at FLGR's , Jaune's and Pyrrha's side, of the seats, Dr. grey was busy cheering for the freelancer.
"Go Washington! It's okay *clap**clap*, it's alright *clap *clap*, win win win *clap* *clap*, fight fight fight! *clap* *clap*."
"Did you practice any of that Dr. Grey?" Doc asked. "I mean, you didn't have to do all of that."
"Of course Doc, this is going to be my rally cheer each time one of us is called in for a fight. If only I had pom-poms"
"I wouldn't go that far because I don't want to draw any attention to myself" Pyrrha spoke up "but it is really nice to see you support your friend greatly. I too wish him well for this fight."
"This is going to be so cool." Jaune agreed as he can't contain his excitement. "I wish I had popcorn with me right now."
"They prohibited us from eating during classes Jaune, that's one of the rules." Pyrrha reminded her partner.
"Aw."
Lopez ignored the conversation near him and turned to his partner JD who was busy rearranging his balaclava and red tinted aviators.
"Apuesto a que esta será una batalla unilateral. No hay mucho que pueda oponerse a Wash. (I bet that this is going to be a one sided battle. Nothing much could stand up against Wash.)" the Spanish speaking robot said to the Rookie, who nodded his head as he presumed that what Lopez said might translate to him showing his support for the freelancer.
"Well, it seems that you have your friends cheering for you in this matchup. I hope you're prepared for what's going to face you." Port remarked.
"I am, professor." Wash confirmed.
"Okay then, let's see what you've got!" Port spoke jovially as he swung his blunderbuss axe onto the lock of the cage, opening it.
Two sets of fierce glowing eyes opened as the beast slowly made its way out of the cage. The grimm that came out was a big boarbatusk who was agitated upon being trapped inside the cramped, dark cage for so long and was ready to demolish everything in its path.
The beast's eyes trailed over to Washington who was in a fighting stance and leveled his rifle at the grimm. It let out a snarl and charged right at the freelancer.
Wash fired a couple of bust shots at the grimm but most of it got deflected due to the tough armor at the front and its face.
"Damn it" he cursed as he rolled away after it charged straight to him. He couldn't react fast as once the boar grimm missed him, it turned at a fast one eighty and headed straight to him. Washington couldn't react in time and settled to grabbing its two massive tusks to avoid bulldozing him.
Both man and grimm were now pushing against each other, with the grimm having the advantage due to it being bigger and stronger. Wash's boots were now hissing as he slid back a bit as he kept pushing forward against the grimm's tusks.
"What a bold approach. Using your strength to hold back the grimm is a marvelous sight to behold. Such manly skill is worth of praise." Professor Port complimented.
"Go Washington!" Ruby cheered but was silenced by Weiss.
"Ruby, he's trying to focus. Be quiet"
"Sorry." The reaper mumbled.
Wash paid no attention and focused on his fight with the grimm. Sensing his strength wavering, he let go of the tusks and jumped on the back of the boarbatusk and doing a flip right after as he returned back to the ground. The grimm, who had momentum as it pushed through Wash suddenly jerked forward and slammed onto the wall. The plaster crunched and a massive cracked formed which stunned the grimm a bit.
He grabbed his pistol and fired rapid succession shots at the grimm's rear, angering it and making it charge at him again. Even at battle, Washington tried to remember the notes he studied about the various species of grimm and their weaknesses.
The grimm charged again but this time, it attacked Wash by spinning and rolling rapidly right at him. Wash managed to dodge in time and returned to use his battle rifle and fired well placed shots at its sides. The grimm was now visibly hurt and grew angrier. The boarbatusks attacks grew savager in pattern that Washington at to parryt it multiple times with his rifle while using his combat knife and stabbed the grimm in the eye.
The boarbatusk let out a pained shriek and tossed Wash away with its tusks. Wash shields flared slightly but was only reduced to a mere ten percent.
The freelancer let out a relieved sigh as he stood back up. He now remembered that the grimm's weakness was its underbelly which contained zero bony armor. Lucky for him, he managed to procure two grenades and lobbed one at the grimm. The grimm which was still standing in place shaking it's head after being stabbed in the eye, failed to notice a grenade rolling perfectly under it, and was unprepared for the explosion which sent it flying.
"Impressive!" Port commended Wash's plan.
The grimm landed on its back, wounded and unable to get up. Wash fried a final three round burst to its belly, ending it for good.
"Excellent display mister Washington! It appears that you indeed possess the attributes of a quality huntsman which I mentioned." The profeesor praised Washington for his efforts. Before he could continue, the bell rang, signaling the end of their lesson.
"Oh, it appears that we have now run out of time, witnessing the brilliance of this battle that occurred today. See you tomorrow children, go over the topics I have assigned and stay vigilant as you go through your day! Farewell now."
Everyone made their way out and proceeded to their next lesson. Washington went back to the lockers to change out of his combat attire.
When he entered, he breathed out a sigh of contentment as he managed to perform well despite his worries earlier. Piece by piece, he removed his armor pieces and the under suit and fitted on his uniform. Now, all that's left was putting on was his tie.
As he did, he jumped in surprise as Tucker placed his arm around his shoulder and yelled.
"Dude, that was so fucking amazing!"
Wash also saw the rest of team CCDT approach. He gave Tucker and appreciative nod and said "thanks buddy."
"You were so cool out there, nice idea of using that grenade to flip that grim onto it's back. I'd have to do that too when I face the same grimm."
"Good job Agent Washingtub. That was neat! You used your freelancer powers on the grimm thingy." Caboose complimented.
Carolina nodded and said "Nice work out there Wash. That boarbatusk had no chance at all. Great move on flipping it over to attack its weak side."
"Heck yeah it didn't stand a fucking chance. Its Wash we're talking about. The dude's a certified BAMF." Tucker continued. "Our team is gonna be the best one here."
"Don't get ahead of yourself. We can't count out the others just yet. And besides, it was just one grimm. It's nothing to fuss over." Washington replied humbly as he placed fixed the tie on his uniform and spiked his hair.
"But the fact remains that the way you killed it was awesome."
Wash chuckled and replied softly "yeah, I guess it was." He checked the time on his scroll and said to his team "Let's go guys, don't want to be late for our next class." Team CCDT exited the locker room together and walked to their new lesson.
