Chapter 4
(A.N. Welcome back readers. . As always, thanks for reading and leave reviews for later chapter ideas.)
The next morning was normal for Emily and the kids. Everyone woke up and got ready, and Emily treated them to doughnuts before school. After drop off, she went to the BAU for the morning. Then she went to the hospital during her lunch break.
Emily got to Hotch's room with food from their favorite Japanese place. They kissed after she closed the door.
"I got your favorite." she told him.
"Great, I am getting tired of this hospital food. I need something with substantial nutrition." Hotch jokes.
"How was everyone this morning?" he asks.
"The kids were fine. We had doughnuts for breakfast." she said handing him the food from the bag.
"Of course that is your go-to breakfast."
"That's what your kids wanted." Emily said in her defense. It was true that she had a sweet tooth for doughnuts, but she had a reason now for consuming crazy amounts of sugar.
"Pregnancy cravings?" Hotch asked trying to be supportive.
"Yes, and of course Jack always wants doughnuts." she told her boyfriend.
"Ok, how was the office this morning?" he said changing the subject.
"Strauss still won't give us a case. It's been almost 3 months."
"I know you want to have as many cases as possible before you're put on restrictive leave." Hotch speaks before taking another bite of filet mignon.
"Yes, I am up to my knees in paperwork up there, but I still want to go back in the field as soon as possible. Strauss doesn't want to give us as many cases since Foyet."
They finish their meal and Emily crawled in the bed with Hotch. She rests her head on his chest and he rubs his arm up and down her back. The doctor came in and said that Hotch was doing very well and go home that day. They were discharged from the hospital, and decided to pick up the kids from school, go to the BAU and see their friends.
Walking in they run into JJ as she comes from her liaison office.
"Hey guys, what are you doing here?" JJ asked.
"Hotch got discharged today, and you know the first thing he wanted to do was come up here, plus we have the announcement to tell the rest of the members of the team." Emily joked.
"Now isn't this a happy sight!" Penelope Garcia came walking up to them.
"Hey Penn."
Emily pulled her in for a hug.
"Boss Man, what are you doing here right out of the hospital?" the technical analyst asked.
"Dad, can I go find Uncle Derek and Uncle Spencer?"
"Sure buddy, but take Lindsay with you." Aaron answered his son.
"Ok!" he said, and the kids ran off to the bullpen looking for the profilers.
"Sorry about that. We have some news to share with everyone in a few minutes." Hotch said to Garcia.
The group made their way to where the rest of the team was.
"Can I get everyone to meet us at the round table?" Emily announced to the group after they had reacquainted with their friends.
"We have something we need to tell everyone." Aaron continued, grabbing Emily's hand.
A few minutes later everyone was sitting around the table with Lindsay in her own seat and Jack sitting in JJ's lap.
"Ok, so I really don't know how to start this, but Hotch and I have been in a relationship for the past couple of years." she started.
"Ok, we know that, love you guys, but especially being profilers, you're not that subtle." Derek Morgan spoke.
"Statistically speaking, it's not surprising that other members of the team are in an intimate relationship with how much time we spend together." Reid added.
"Reid, the only two people on the team who aren't in a relationship with another member is Garcia and Morgan." Rossi told the young man.
"We always have a bet going on about who will catch you two doing something romantic in the office." JJ admitted to her friends with a chuckle.
"Hey! We're not that bad, are we?" Emily asked.
"That subject is up for debate." Morgan chuckled.
"We still love you two, but what about you two being together Kitty?" Garcia asked
"Well, now we are expecting a baby together!" Hotch said excitedly, and wrapping his arms around Emily's stomach.
"Wow!" Morgan was the first one to speak,
"So we're going to have a new little member of the team soon. Lindsay, Jack, how do you guys feel about this?" he asked the children.
"Well, we've had time to process it, and mom is going to need someone to pester when I go to college in a few years, so I think it's great." Lindsay announced to the group.
"I'm hoping that it's a baby brother." Jack said afterwards.
When the work day was over, the group went over to Rossi's for supper. Emily, Hotch, and the kids ride together, Morgan and Garcia rode with JJ and Spencer after they picked up Henry from daycare, and Rossi was in his own car.
(In Hotch and Emily's car)
"Daddy?" Jack spoke,
"Since Emmy is going to have a baby, are we all going to live together and be a family now?" the little boy asked. Hotch and Emily looked at each other in the front seat, not sure how to answer him.
"Well buddy, me and your dad haven't had a chance to talk about it yet, but most likely, yes, we will." Emily told him.
"Ok Emmy." he said.
(In JJ and Reid's car)
"I just can't get over how adorable he is JJ!" Penelope said from the backseat playing with Henry.
"I can't get over the fact that Hotch and Emily are having a baby together, and we didn't even know." Morgan said to the group.
"Well, JJ and I technically knew before she even told Hotch there Chocolate Thunder." Penelope said.
"She had to have someone to talk to while Hotch was in the coma." JJ added.
"You two didn't think to mention that to the rest of us?" Spencer turned to his partner.
"We were sworn to secrecy, there's a lot that us girls don't tell you guys." Garcia joked.
"Yeah babe, that's what those late night phone calls were about." JJ turned and looked at Reid.
"Oh that's good. I thought that you might have been talking to Will again." Reid said in a sigh of relief, leaning in for a kiss.
"I would never go back to him after what he did to me and Henry after he was born." JJ said, a little frightened thinking about what happened a few months ago, the night that she and Reid had became a couple.
A few minutes later everyone pulls up to Rossi's mansion and goes inside. Once inside, they head to the kitchen for a cooking lesson to make dinner. Rossi decides to teach a simple dish this time, spaghetti, and dinner is served within the hour.
"So, we all want to know when you two got together." Morgan said during dinner.
"It was actually after the Katie Jacob's case." Emily said taking a bite of food.
"We were questioning the aunt, before we knew everything." Hotch started.
"I've never told you guys this, but I had a similar experience with Lindsay when she was 4. She ran off one day when we were visiting some of the Smithsonian's. She knew not to go too far ahead of me and to stay where I could see her. I looked away for one minute and then she was gone. I searched and searched, but couldn't find her until a few minutes later. She had caught sight of a ice cream cart and chased after it. I, of course bought her ice cream when I found her, and then we had a talk about not scaring the crap out of mama when we are out in public." Emily told the quick version of the story.
"The nature of the case brought up memories of that and Emily was getting a bit overwhelmed and hostile to say the least." Hotch started the other part of the story.
"I pulled her into a storage closet for her to calm down. I asked her why she was so determined to find the girl, I could tell it was more than just the fact of a missing child. She told the story to me and then broke down in my arms. After a while she calmed down and we kissed for the first time. I was taken aback at first, but then we went back to work." he continued.
"We had been spending more time together outside of work, and after that case, we became an official couple." Emily finished the story.
"So sweet, and we are happy you two got together, I spotted the chemistry between the two of you my first day back at the BAU, and now look, we will have a new member of the family." Rossi spoke up from the other end of the table.
"Here, here!" everyone raised a toast to them.
The group finished eating and continued to talk for the first time all together in a while. They talk well into the night and the kids fell asleep on Rossi's couch waiting on the adults to end the night. Hotch carried Lindsay to their car while Emily carried Jack as everyone went home for the night.
Since her apartment was closer, Emily and Hotch decided to go back to her place for the night. It wasn't that uncommon for there to be sleepovers between the apartments, and there were a few pairs of clothes at each house for everyone. Emily made a little place for Jack to sleep in Lindsay's room, and Aaron put Lindsay in her bed. Then the two of them went into Emily's room.
"I wish we would have had a better answer for Jack earlier." Hotch said trying to start a conversation he desperately wanted to have with Emily.
"Yeah, I guess we should have." she said changing into a t-shirt for the night.
"Do you want to move in together?" he asked her.
"Yes, but whose apartment? Lindsay and I really love this one."
"Jack and I really don't like our apartment, it's small, the sinks always drip, and it does not have this amazing view." he motions towards Emily.
"So all of us are going to live here?" she asked.
"I guess so. I have no idea how yet, but we will figure it out later. Let's go to bed." Hotch pulls the covers back and gives Emily a Goodnight kiss.
The next morning Emily woke up early to make Lindsay and Jack's favorite breakfasts before school. She made chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and sliced fruit with plain milk to drink. She made herself a plate and sat down when Lindsay came into the dining room.
"What's this?" the teenager asked:
"I made your favorite breakfast silly." Emily answered her.
"Thank you." Lindsay said in delight. She grabbed a plate and quickly put the food on her plate.
"So how did you sleep last night?" Emily asked her daughter while taking a bite of her pancakes.
"I slept fine, Jack is up by the way. What about you?" she asked, drinking a sip of her milk.
"I slept good, I was extra warm under the covers." Emily responds, talking about Aaron.
"Eww mom."
As if he had some kind of powers of knowing when she needed him, Hotch walks into the kitchen with a cranky Jack dressed in his school clothes.
"Good morning ladies." Hotch says kissing Lindsay on the head and her mother on the lips.
"Morning Emmy, morning Lindsay." Jack follows suit. The boys made their plates and joined Emily and Lindsay at the table.
Hotch and Emily looked at each other, amazed at the family they were creating. Lindsay felt like a big sister to Jack and they got along very well. After everyone had eaten, the four of them left the apartment for school and work.
