Chapter 5
Winter Break
The next morning, Molly and Libby packed up their things as they got ready to go back home for the holidays. Libby was about ready to leave as she put the last of her things in her car. Once she was ready to leave, Libby turned to face Molly to say goodbye to her.
"I'm going to miss you, Molly! I hope you have a safe trip back home!" Libby said.
"I'll miss you too, Libby! Just let me know when you get back home and we can talk to each other on the phone as much as you like!" Molly promised.
It was at that moment when Molly and Libby hugged each other tightly before they kissed each other goodbye. After they broke from the kiss, Libby walked over to her car and waved goodbye to Molly before driving away.
The moment Libby's car disappeared in the distance, Scratch noticed a sad look on Molly's face. He could tell that she missed Libby already. That was when Scratch floated over to Molly to comfort her.
"Don't worry, Molly! You will see her again soon! Let's go back home and see your family! It wouldn't surprise me if they cooked something for me to celebrate my return!" Scratch joked.
Molly giggled in response before she replied, "You're right, Scratch! Let's go!"
Right before Molly could get in her car, she was startled by an angry voice behind her.
"Hey!"
Molly recognized the voice as Andrea's voice. After what had happened last night, Molly was not in the mood to talk to her.
"Andrea." Molly glared at Andrea, but tried to keep her voice calm.
"I don't know what you have done, but I'm on to you!" Andrea pointed an accusing finger at her. "Someone ended up scaring me in the punch bowl and deleted that video on my phone! I know you had something to do with it!"
"I have no idea what you are talking about, Andrea." Molly casually replied.
"Don't play dumb! I know that you and your dumb girlfriend did this to get revenge for that prank!" Andrea yelled back.
Angered by what Andrea said about Libby, Molly tightened her hands into fists. Even though violence went against Molly's nature, it was getting hard for her to resist the urge to punch Andrea in the face. She had just about had it with Andrea. After everything that Andrea had done to Libby, Molly was done being nice to her.
"What the hell is your problem Andrea?!" Molly snapped, much to Andrea's shock. "I don't care that you have bullied me, but I can never forgive what you had done to Libby! You turned her into an outcast and made her life a living hell just because she mispronounced your name one time on the first day of school! I know that you are like this because you just want attention from your parents, but that's no excuse to treat everyone like dirt! It's no wonder why you don't have any friends!"
Molly's outburst left Andrea shocked as she stared at her in silence. She had never seen Molly so angry before. All of Andrea's rage was soon replaced by fear. It took a few moments before Andrea found her voice.
"Wh-What are you talking about? I have friends!" Andrea tried to argue as her voice started to tremble.
Molly shook her head. "No! You have followers! Everyone only pays attention to you just because you are popular!" Molly then took a deep breath as she tried to calm herself down. "You know, despite everything you had done, I secretly hoped that you were a good person deep down. I guess I was wrong."
Without another word, Molly walked away, leaving Andrea alone. As Molly left, Andrea was left with a feeling that she never thought she would experience. A feeling of guilt.
Molly stomped back to her car, leaving Scratch surprised by what just happened. He never heard Molly tell someone off like that before.
"Wow! That was un-Molly McGeeish of you!" Scratch broke the silence.
With a frustrated sigh, Molly said, "I just don't think I can give her another chance, Scratch! She hurt Libby!"
Scratch gave an understanding nod. "I know what you mean, Moll! I'm mad at Andrea for what she did to Libby too." Scratch admitted before he turned to Molly with a soft smile. "Listen, why don't we forget about Andrea for now and head back home. I know that you want to see your family again!"
As Scratch said that, Molly's expression softened before she smiled back, "Thanks, Scratch! I don't know what I would do without you!"
At that moment, Molly and Scratch got in the car before Molly started it up. Once the engine started, Molly began her drive back home.
The ride back home took several hours, but Molly was still excited to see her family again. As the car ride came to an end, Molly surroundings began to look familiar as she was back in her neighborhood. She pulled up to her house to see that her family was already outside, ready to greet her. With a smile, Molly got out of the car and embraced her family in a tearful hug.
"I missed you guys so much!" Molly exclaimed as she hugged her family tightly, not wanting to let go.
"We missed you too, Molly!" Pete said with a smile.
"We are all so happy that you are back home with us!" Sharon tearfully hugged Molly back.
"Good to have you back, Molly! I can't wait to tell you how my year of high school is going so far! You're not going to believe how many detentions I got myself this year!" Darryl said.
After hugging her family, Molly stepped into the house. As she looked around the house, Molly teared up in joy, knowing that she would be staying here for the whole month. Molly knew that she would have to use this time wisely and spend as much time with her family as she could.
Throughout the last couple of days, Molly and Libby were spending the holidays with their families. Despite how much fun they were having with their families, Molly and Libby quickly started to miss each other. Their families soon realized this, so they thought of a way where they could all be together.
Once the first day of Hanukkah began, Libby was helping her mom, Leah decorate the bookshop. It wasn't long before they heard knocking coming from the door. This confused Libby because the bookshop wasn't even open today.
"Libby, can you please get the door?" Leah asked as she set up the menorah.
"Um, sure, Mom!" Libby wondered who could possible be visiting the bookshop before approaching the door.
Once Libby opened the door, she was surprised to see Molly along with the rest of her family.
"Surprise!" Molly cheered before hugging a confused Libby.
"Molly? What's going on?" Libby asked, surprised by her unexpected visitors.
"Oh, I can't keep it a surprise from you any longer, Libby!" Leah spoke up. "Molly's parents and I have noticed how much you two have been missing each other, so we decided to spend the holidays together!"
"Really?" Libby couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Oh, Molly! I'm so happy we get to be together for the rest of the month!" Libby exclaimed, holding her girlfriend's hands.
"Me too! This would be just like the night we spent Hannukah together that one time! Except we won't have to worry about the power going out this time!"
Leah smiled upon seeing how happy her daughter and Molly were. "Well, don't let me keep you waiting, please come in!"
As Leah let the McGees in the bookshop, they all began to celebrate the holidays together. Nighttime soon fell as Leah lit the first candle of the menorah before taking notice of Libby and her friends, who were spinning a dreidel in an attempt to earn as much chocolate gelt as possible.
They each had their fair share of gelt as the game continued. After Molly took her turn with the dreidel, it was now Libby's turn.
"Come on, little dreidel! Don't forget who made you out of clay!" Libby whispered to her dreidel.
"Wow! I"m getting some deja vu here!" Scratch said as this was very similar to the last time they played the game. Unlike that time, Scratch was determined to do whatever it took to win. "Don't think that you would win this time, Libby! The chocolate gelt is mine!"
"We will see about that, Scratch!" Libby replied with a confident grin!
With that, Libby released her dreidel as it was spinning around the table. It was at that moment, when Scratch slightly raised his arm and used his ghost powers to make it so that the dreidel landed on shin, so that Libby would have to add her pieces to the pot.
Once it was Scratch's turn, he started to spin the dreidel as well. Right when nobody was looking, Scratch used his ghost powers once more to make it so that the dreidel landed on gimel.
"Yes! Gimel! I won!" Scratch cheered in victory.
"Aw man! I really thought I was going to win this time!" Darryl complained.
Both Molly and Libby shared amused grins with one another before Molly scooted over to Libby and whispered, "You do know that Scratch just cheated, right?"
Libby nodded. "I know. I just thought I'd let him win this one time!"
Not wanting to wait another second to eat, Scratch floated over to the chocolate gelt and ended up eating all of it in a matter of seconds.
As the days went by, Molly and Libby's families have been spending Hannukah together as they were playing games, singing songs together, and eating latkes that Leah made. This went on until Molly and Libby decided to take a walk through Brighton one night.
As they walked together, holding each others hand, they took the time to admire the lights around town, along with the beautiful night sky. They walked together for a couple of hours before they came across a frozen pond.
"Wow! This place looks so pretty, Molly!" Libby commented.
"Hey, I remember this place!" Molly recognized where she was. "This is where my family and I met the ghost of this figure skater named, Sonia Davis."
Despite how pretty the pond looked, it still brought back bad memories for Molly as this was also where she and her family nearly got impaled by icicles. She decided not to focus too much on the past as she and Libby watched the pond together. After admiring the pond for a few moments, Libby thought of a fun activity that she and Molly could do together.
"Hey, Molly! Would you like to go iceskating with me?"
Upon being asked that question, Molly began to feel nervous. "Uh, I don't think that would be a good idea, Libby."
The last time she was here, Molly tried her best to skate on the ice, but ended up falling every single time. It made her glad that Libby wasn't there that day to see her make a fool of herself.
Seeing that Molly was nervous, Libby approached her and said, "It's okay, Molly! I wouldn't consider myself to be that good of a skater either! We can learn together if you want!"
Molly soon started to relax before agreeing to skate with Libby. The moment Molly's feet touched the ice, her legs started to feel wobbly as she started to lose her balance. Before she could stop herself, Molly ended up falling and landing face first on the ice.
"Molly? Are you okay?" Libby asked as she skated over to her girlfriend.
"This is a lot harder than it looks." Came Molly's muffled voice from the ground.
With a giggle, Libby held out her hand before helping Molly back up.
"Here, let me help you up." Libby managed to help Molly regain her balance. She then held Molly's hand tightly before skating with her. "Don't be nervous, Molly! I promise I won't let go of your hand!"
"Th-Thanks, Libby!" Molly gave Libby a grateful smile even though she was still worried she might fall.
The two friends skated across the ice together as Molly started to feel less nervous. In fact, she began to have fun. They both did their best to keep their balance as they skated around the pond. Once their iceskating came to an end, Molly and Libby were face to face with each, holding each others hands. With a couple of smiles, they leaned in before kissing one another. However, they didn't realize how much they were leaning against each other, so they ended up falling on the ice at the same time. Molly and Libby soon looked at one another before bursting into laughter.
"It looks like we both need more practice!" Libby laughed.
"Well, at least you are a lot better at iceskating than I am!" Molly stood up before helping Libby back up as well. "Want to head back home, Libby?"
Libby nodded. "I think I would like that, Molly! It's starting to get cold out here anyway!"
Wanting to get out of the cold, Molly and Libby decided to return home. Throughout their walk back home, they held each others hand the whole way.
