Once they pulled out of the kiss, Kurt stared at Blaine for a moment before asking, "What was that for?" Five minutes ago, Blaine was still trying to figure out what he thought about Kurt, and now, here he was kissing Kurt. Just yesterday Blaine was trying to forget that Kurt had ever kissed him.
"That was for the kind prince that I've come to know." Blaine finally decided on saying. Blaine then took a step back, slightly horrified because Kurt hadn't said anything, nor did his facial expression give anything away. Blaine was being to doubt what he thought the King and Prince meant by 'cared for' that is until Kurt quickly grabbed Blaine's hand and pulled him into a kiss. The kiss was short, and sweet, but to the two boys, it meant the world. Kurt pulled Blaine into a hug.
"I thought you didn't like me much." Kurt whispered into Blaine's ear.
"I've come to realize that there are two princes, one cold and callous, the other loving, and sensitive. The first, I had wished never to see again, but then he became the second and I realized I wanted to keep seeing the second prince." They stood like that for a few more moments until they heard footsteps down the hall. Remembering that the door was wide open, they sprang apart.
"Ah, Blaine, how do you like your new room?" The King asked, he seemed to have known Kurt would switch the rooms as there was no stutter in his footsteps when he entered the room.
"You are much too kind, Your Majesty, this room is exquisite."
"I'm glad you think so." He smiled. "But I have come with news that could be upsetting. We are about to hold a trial, at the Duke's request, for his son, which means…"
"I have to be there." Blaine finished.
"Yes." The king replied solemnly.
"What time?" Kurt asked.
"An hour."
"And the judge of this trial?" Kurt asked, Blaine couldn't speak, he never wanted to see that man again, and now he would have to.
"A joint decision will be made between myself and the Duke."
"I suppose that's better than the Duke having full control." Kurt resigned.
"I forced his hand. He forced a trial, so I ensured that I would also determine how things went. No one gets away with hurting one of my people. Do not worry, Blaine, I will do everything in my power to protect you, as I'm sure Kurt will as well."
"I'll be his counsel." Kurt stated. "I assume you've never witnessed court before?" Blaine shook his head. "Then it's settled."
"Not quite." Blaine finally spoke. "Court spreads through the village like wildfire. What if I lose? What will my family think of me?"
"You won't lose." Kurt told him in earnest.
"I've already thought of that, I've sent word to your family, telling them of what happened. Your parents will know the truth regardless." The king said.
Blaine sighed. "Let's just get this over with, so I never have to see him again."
The three of them went downstairs to the court room, the king entered first and took his seat at the head of the room. Kurt followed and sat beside his father, Blaine trailed and stood on the left side of the room, facing the king and prince. The Duke and his wife entered a few moments later, and extra chairs were brought to the front of the room for the two of them. Lastly, entered the boy, who grinned at Blaine and took his stance on the right side of the room, mirroring Blaine. "Silence." The King commanded and the room fell still. "Let the court proceedings being." At that, Kurt stood from his chair and walked over to stand beside Blaine, there were several gasps and whispers, even between the Duke and his wife. "Silence!" The king repeated, and once more the room fell quiet. "Sebastian of the Smythes, son of the Duke, you are brought today on charges of intended harm towards a member of my staff and proceeding to lie to the king and prince about said actions taken to intend harm. How do you plea?"
Sebastian looked over at Blaine and smiled, "Not guilty."
"Please, recount the instances last night." The king said looking at Sebastian.
"Well, Your Majesty, I had just returned to my suit here in the palace after taking a lovely walk in Her Majesty's garden, may she rest in peace, and there on my bed was a note inviting me to a room downstairs. As I didn't know who sent it or what it was, I was curious and went where the note directed. When I arrived, I knocked, but nobody answered the door, so I walked in and the door immediately shut after I entered. There was Blaine, he ripped off my tunic and pinned me to the ground. I called for help, and that's when the guards came in." It was clear that Sebastian was trying to force himself to cry but couldn't, so he resigned for fake sobs and shivering.
Kurt looked at Blaine and saw the first tear fall from his eyes. "I need you to be able to speak, take some deep breaths." Kurt whispered.
"And where is this note?" The king asked.
"I uh…." Sebastian clearly hadn't thought that far ahead, "I threw it in the fire, it was too painful." He faked a sob once more.
"Blaine, your story please." The King turned to him.
Blaine took a deep breath. "I had spent most of yesterday in my suite as it had been an eventful past few days. I left when I was called to dinner with the other servants, and when I returned, the Duke's son was in my suite. I asked how I could be of service, and he told me he wanted me to sing for him. As the royal entertainer, I agreed to the request but suggested I sing for him up here where I had access to a harpsicord. He then said…" Blaine took a stuttered deep breath, "He wanted me to sing his name as he took what was his, then he ripped his tunic off and walked towards me, pinning me to the wall. I asked him to leave, but he refused. I pushed him away from me then we heard running down the hall. It was then that the Duke's son grabbed me, lay on the floor, and pull me on top of him." Blaine was crying now.
"Father, if I may?" Kurt spoke up and waited for his father to give him permission to continue. "Last night Blaine was carried before you and I and thrown to the ground, unable to speak he was so scared and mortified at what he just experienced, meanwhile the Duke's son had a smirk on his face, as if pleased to have hurt this poor boy." Kurt said, touching Blaine's shoulder. "It became clear to us last night that the innocent one was Blaine of the Andersons, and I am appalled at how he is being treated now. The Duke's son has no note which he argued to be his evidence. However, he was downstairs in a holding cell, far away from any fire and clearly did not have time to burn such a letter. It is clear to me that the Duke should be apologizing for how his son has treated this young boy, and should be begging our mercy, that we not hang his son for lying to the crown."
"I have one question for you, Prince Kurt." The Duke began, visibly annoyed at the accusations. "How do we know we can trust anything this boy says?"
"Simple: I met Blaine before he came to the palace to be the royal entertainer, he has not shied away from telling me things as they are, even to a royal. This man is honest to a fault and is true to his word. Should that not be enough for you, I happen to know that our young Blaine here is seeing someone and wouldn't dare betray the one he's seeing. What would he want with your son?"
"With that, the Duke and I shall return with our decision." The King stood and left the room, followed closely by the Duke.
Kurt turned to Blaine, "You okay?" Blaine's eyes were red and puffy as more tears fell. "Don't worry, father will ensure you're safe, then we can walk away from this and never look back." Blaine nodded. "I also invited your parents to stay after the proceedings, I figured you might feel better after talking with them."
"Thank you, Your Highness. You are far too kind." At that, the doors opened, and a hush fell over the crowd.
"We have reached a verdict," The king began, the Duke looked a little disgusted.
"Breathe." Kurt whispered.
"We have determined Sebastian, son of the Duke, guilty of all charges and will be sentenced to carry out five years in prison under the watchful gaze of the Duke himself. Sebastian is also, henceforth, stripped of his title and will serve the rest of his life in a workhouse." The king announced. "Court is adjourned." He stood and left, followed by the Duke who grabbed Sebastian's arm and pushed him forward.
"I have to go. Wait for your parents then join us in the dining hall." Kurt said, then made his exit.
