Chapter 7: Danger

Annie's POV

It didn't take us long to escape. Everybody immediately backed away from us when they saw our monstrous wolf size.

I sprinted away as fast as I could. The rest of my pack were right behind me. They were following my lead. Trusting that I would lead them away from the danger.

I led them to the woods. I skidded to a halt when a massive form jumped in front of me. I was about to attack when I realized that it was just my father in his wolf form.

He beckoned for me to follow him. I didn't hesitate to obey. He led me back to the house I'd been at earlier that day. We all changed back into humans again.

"We were watching the news and saw what happened," my father explained to us once we were all human again.

"What does this mean?"

"It means our secret has been exposed. We're hoping that people will believe it was just a fake edited video. But that won't be the case for every human that sees this,"

"So what are we going to do now?" I asked. I could hear the desperation in my own voice.

"For now all of you will hide out here with us. Then we will figure out what to do,"

Immediately I felt a lot more at ease. I wasn't exactly sure why either. Maybe it was because my family was here. I knew we'd make quite a mess for ourselves.

Still the anxiety didn't leave my body entirely. I tried occupying myself in other ways like watching TV but even that wasn't working.

"Everything is going to be okay," I heard the voice of my father say in a reassuring way.

"How do you know?"

He didn't know. I could see that much in his eyes. "Be honest. You don't know either do you?"

"You're right.I don't know for sure. But we will figure it out together. This isn't the first time we've been in trouble,"

"Dad?"

He smiled. "What is it?"

"I have questions. A lot of questions. How did all of this werewolf nonsense start in the first place? I mean, why us?"

I listened to my father as he begun to tell me all of the legends. The legends were not just legends. They were factual stories no matter how fantastic al the stories sounded. I was fascinated. For a brief time I was distracted from our current worries.

"It's a lot to wrap my head around. One minute I'm a normal human girl and next thing I know I'm descended from a long line of magical beings,"

"and you're also part vampire on your mother's side,"

I sighed. It really was a lot to wrap my head around. I still had so many questions and so little answers. "Why don't you try to get some sleep Annie," he suggested.

I wasn't sure I could sleep with everything that was going on. But I closed my eyes anyway. Then what seemed like mere seconds later I was opening my eyes to light shining through the window. I turned the TV on in the room and the first thing I saw was the news playing the footage of us transforming into wolves over and over again. Dread filled my stomach.

"I think we should leave. That's going to be the only way that we keep them safe," I heard someone, I think it was my mother, say.

"It's not a bad idea honestly," I heard my dad say. "We can go into hiding somewhere until all of this dies down,"

I didn't want to listen to this conversation. I went outside and quickly shifted into a wolf. I wasn't alone in my thoughts either. I could hear Ethan, Lily, Joseph, and Eric. From what I could hear it sounded like they were having an argument.

"This is all your fault Ethan!" Eric shouted.

Ethan was getting angrier and angrier by the second. I'm surprised he wasn't fighting yet. I sprinted over there as fast as I could.

"Will you all stop!" I mentally shouted at them in my head. They stopped almost instantly. "Look all of this fighting isn't going to solve our problems. So stop it already,"

"Okay so what are we going to do now?" Eric asked me.

I was about to answer when we suddenly heard lots of howling deep within the woods. There were more wolves.

I ran in the direction that we'd heard the howling coming from. More wolves . I wasn't sure if I was more scared or excited. Maybe they'd seen us on the news and came here to find us.

I looked back and saw the rest of my pack following close behind me. Then I slammed into something I hadn't seen coming. It was another wolf. It didn't take us but a second to get back on our feet after we crashed.

I quickly took in the form of the massive black wolf. He was a large wolf like my father. More wolves joined us less than a second later.

There were a lot more wolves. We were outnumbered. It unsettled me that I couldn't hear what they were thinking. Just like I couldn't hear my father either. Maybe it was a pack then. Maybe we could only hear the thoughts of other members of our pack.

You could cut the tension in the air with a knife. I watched the other members of the black wolf's pack closely. For right away I knew that the black wolf was the alpha of this pack.

I could feel all of their gazes lingering on each and every one of us. It was as if they were trying to figure something out. I was surprised when I realized there was only one female in this wolf pack. The rest of the pack consisted only of male wolves.

I stiffened as I caught the scent of that human scientist nearby. He was getting closer and closer. "Wow. More of them," I heard him say.

Damn it! "Run! Now!" I ordered my pack.

The wolves in the other pack looked very bewildered. But they quickly ran after us as well.

As we were running I realized that hiding was never going to work. Not as long as Ethan, Eric, Lily, Joseph, and I had these stupid trackers that the scientist had implanted in our bodies.

Unless there was a way to remove these damn trackers we were all in trouble because no matter where we went they would find us.

In essence we were pretty much screwed.
