Surprise. turns out dam of tears won't be my only fanfic. I have a lot of stories in my head. and well, this is where I kinda bring them to life. Now, this story is gonna be more angsty but it has a happy ending. Basically it's the orphaned fanfic but the family survives. Well, they'll be in a coma but alive. So, enjoy the story. Unfortunately , the beginning to the harpy attack will be similar to the original story. so sorry about that ( The orphaned fanfic is made by professor ass spiders. I don't own or written the fanfic myself. Rio belongs to 20th century fox.)
It was a wonderful day for the Gunderson's. Who are the Gunderson's. The last remaining spix macaws alive. Blu, the kind father and Jewel, the sweet and supportive mother and their 3 chicks, Carla, Bia and Tiago. They don't always get along, as siblings do but they all love each other.
Living in their nest boxes in the protected area of the forest next to Linda, Tulio and Fernando cottage. They were safe from smugglers. It's still possible but nearly impossible to do it, so they didn't worry about it.
Tiago, the youngest of the three, was a mischief maker. He loved doing pranks and joking around, his sense of humor was childish, as was his personality compared to his music loving and nerdy older sisters, Carla and Bia.
Tiago slowly opened his eyes. The sleep was still on his eye even after resting for 8 hours, which made keeping his eyes open more difficult than it has to be. Slowly but surely, he opened his eyes wider and kept them wide for longer till finally he kept them open. with a bit of rubbing his eyes and stretching He got up.
He stepped outside of his box and flew to the roof of his parents box. To his surprise, the others were up as well. He saw his mother, Jewel, flying back with a leaf carrying their breakfast. At his mothers insistence, they usually have an "natural" breakfast. Tiago and his sisters preferred pancakes or waffles but they didn't care if they had a human or natural breakfast. It was delicious regardless.
Jewel gently placed the leaf on the main balcony. It contained various fruits, nuts and berries, including her favorite: mangoes.
"Kids, breakfast!", she called out, his father was already out, and bia came out quickly. Carla followed suit, peering out of her private box. She had the most privacy of them all, even more so than their parents.
Tiago flew down and joined his family at the "table". Grabbing a berry in his talons. Tiago bit down hard on the berry. A bit too hard.
"Tiago!" Bia snapped, Tiago quickly rushed to defend himself.
"I didn't mean it, sorry!" he quickly said. He thankfully managed to avoid any trouble after that. Now eating more slowly. Luckily for him, the rest of breakfast went without incident. That morning, Blu and Jewel decided they would fly as a family. They hadn't told their kids yet. So after finishing breakfast, they decided to tell them.
"Hey, why don't we go out and fly together." Jewel proposed with a hint of excitement in her voice.
"Yeah as a family." Blu added. Bia lit up and agreed to go. Tiago didn't answer. It's not that he hates flying with his family, it's just that Carla is in her angsty teenager phase and wants to spend time listening to music with her ipod rather than with her own family. Unless they ground her from using the ipod, she wouldn't agree to join her.
Turns out, they managed to get Carla to join without threatening to take her ipod. So they gathered and took off. It's nice flying with his mate and their chicks. Blu thought, swooping around trees and looking at fellow birds and other animals.
But something felt off.
The birds seemed more tense and looked like they saw a ghost.
It's probably his imagination, this area is protected from smugglers, even if they somehow got to this area. There were cameras stationed on every exit.
Unless.
No he thought, there's no way a predator is here, I mean they're flying and unless they perch at the wrong tree, predators can't catch them. Besides, a Harpy eagle being here was impossible. Right?
Tiago loved the feeling of the wind going through his feathers. They flew for a while and Tiago had been racing the other, which left him fatigued and he flew behind the others. They still continued, much to Tiago's discomfort.
They finally stopped to rest on a branch. Tiago was still behind them; he heard his mother speak up.
"So, how was it.", she asked enthusiastically. His sisters responded, "it was great!", they exclaimed.
"Ok, we're going to head ba-", Blu began but this scene of peace turned to a scene of horror as an ear shrieking screech was heard. Blu's parental instinct took over and managed to push Carla away from him before a female harpy swooped down and in a one devastating blow, knocked Blu down. Their massive talons crushed Blu, but he wasn't dead yet.
Jewel saw a shadow heading towards bia. She managed to get to Bia and shielded her before another harpy, a male pounced on her.
Bia managed to fly a small distance before the female saw her and pinned her.
Carla had little time to get up before the talons of the male took her. And slowly applied pressure to her small body. She was screaming in pain as bones were slowly being crushed.
Fear had overpowered Tiago. Why is he not moving. He was trying to move his body but it wasn't moving.
Carla was still being crushed. Her eyes now bloodshot due to her cries of pain. Bits of bones were poking out of her body, but she was somehow still alive.
The harpy would have finally ended her suffering, if he hadn't turned his head.
The male saw him.
He saw him!
Tiago panicked as it let go of Carla and went straight towards Tiago. Tiago's adrenaline finally managed to get his body to move, It was too late. The male grabbed him and forced him to the ground, His beak painted with his family's blood. "Please Don't hurt me, I'm too young to die!" Tiago begged, hoping it would show mercy to him. The harpy got closer to him, seemingly enjoying his fear.
"Please" he softly spoke. It answered as the eagle bit him. Tiago howled in pain as the harpy was taking its time to rip off the chuck he bit into. It proceeded with another chuck till it saw his wing. "No... please...don't..." he pleaded. He bit on his left wing. "STOP...PLEASEā¦" he wailed as the harpy was trying to rip it off. As tears blurred his vision . He could have sworn he saw a blue blur slam to the harpy, then red, then black and other colors. The weight started to get less heavy on his chest.
When his vision finally cleared, he saw a multitude of other birds attacking the harpies but he wasn't focusing on them.
He saw the bird with black feathers, he called out to him despite his body's protest to not do so.
"Uncle...Rafael? Tiago said before he passed out.
before anyone asks, when i meant that the beginning to the attack will be similar to the original story, i meant that some of the texts was directly ripped from said story, not all of it but enough to know. so if you're reading this professor ass spiders, I'm sorry about that. without the original, the writers block i had for the beginning would have extended longer. so to make it up. I'll paste the original to this story. ( s/13662618/1/Orphaned) and for mobile users, the story is in my favorite section. the second chapter might take some time because I'm going back to the original story and seeing if I can the wounds the family had to make it more survivable. so hopefully you enjoy this chapter and I'll see you later.
