Pairing : [ Subaru x Sylphy ]

[ Everything Will Be Fine ]

Two-Shot Fic - Part 1

Casting across the horizon, the supposed bright filled adventure that was living in a fantasy world from zero. Unmet by its instinct to be used in situations of chaos, becoming surreal as the passing days, months and years to be so peaceful.

Tip-taps, trickling sound of rain casted shadows upon the sizable windows. Figure that stood close and sat to observe such chaos. The man sighed out-loud as he set off his glass of wine to the table right beside. It's been quite the years that passed, even as it may not be an exaggeration to finally grow that cliché'd beard he always saw in television, of such kings to grow so wise to let its sign be the long-grown beard.

"I may be arrogant truly, but I don't think I'm that confident to grow that much facial hair." Ceasing his introspection, rubbing his chin with his left hand as then to realize that such hair is barely even noticeable. "Well, no matter. That's too unhygienic for me anyways."

Sat aside on the comforts of his chair, his head wandered what transpired the so-years, though every event didn't answer the questions he had at the end which was anti-climatic so to speak but that was the price of the calmness, both him and the people of Lugunica were experiencing.

Knock of the wooden door was heard, turning around his head to give attention. "Subaru-sama, it's time for dinner, I was tasked to escort you in the dining room." Velvety voice spoke in dignity, made abit stern as she waited for his answer.

"Ah, right. I'll be with you in a minute." Stood up, went to the drawers as he grabbed and replaced his robe with a formal garment. Straightening out some neat details, stepped to the door afterwards. Opened it to be greeted of a hair akin to his wife, yet distinguished of golden blonde hair reaching just about its torso. "Alright, let us go."

I do wonder what may be the cause of my appearance once again. I pondered that in every other day, it being the sole reason to keep going forward of a non-existent goal.

Was it that I feel indebted?

I could feel the sentiment, as I've been saved much more years wasted on that treacherous man. To has its life saved by ever-bright people, no doubt; you'll feel indebted.

Was it to search what became of my desire long-lost ago?

Tried and might, travelled across lands to seek what might interest me and finally feel that once emotion I felt the moment been freed from its own cage.

No less, to be of coincidence but was it fate to be brought back seeing the people I admired so much. Bright people that shone the entire country, bringing its lowered-self to shoulder. Subaru and Emilia, Known King and Queen to the lands of Lugunica, to its respective place. Surrounded by wondrous people, I sought forward and until it bore fruit to occupy a position of working with them, as a maid.

"Are you sure you want to take this job?" The elven queen asked her in a concerned tone, yet still ever curious. Treading in trying not to offend her, "After serving for someone forcibly for years, I would think that you'll hate even the idea of it." Eye-contact, seeking to understand the body language of her whether it was a right thing to ask.

"There was a difference of between that and here, I have my own say on the matter to work. There's this feeling of being indebt that I shall repay, Emilia-sama." Solemnly spoken, barely hint of emotion yet strived behind it was the burning sense of determination.

Waiting for answer, Emilia observed for quite a while to what may be her judgement. The atmosphere that seemed to reek of anxiousness, I wanted to speak up but just before then; She abruptly stood up and walked along towards me.

"I, the standing Queen of Lugunica, declare of your pledge to serve those that will become your retainers, loyalty is must, I ask of you." Her voice booming around the room, it really did hold some impact as I stagger around for words that I was supposed to be readily prepared for.

"A, Ah. I solemnly accept." Cursing the timidness I'd shown, but I couldn't let that through me. Attempting to once more compose myself straight. I shuffled my foot to raising my chin up high.

Emilia observed me for awhile until letting out a sigh, "I believe you already met our head maid; I advise for you to meet her though I insist in being escorted as I assume you're unfamiliar yet with the place." as she walked back to her chair. "Make yourself comfortable while you wait." Making my way to the nearby chair of the supposed office. It was quite large, spanning a window right behind the chair being sat on by the queen.

Taking time to process what made of my efforts, I saw the job being offered thus taking the opportunity. Although many had the same idea, making it a line to acquire the position. Took almost a few days of screening, tests being conducted whether should I be and the others fitted for the job. Then was the questioning of the Sword Saint himself, asked of any threats and traitorous acts if ever the person was malicious or not. These were all a breeze; outperforming was to be expected though it has been years since I've held a teacup to serve but enough confidence and I actually did it.

Click of an opening door, "I heard that you called for me, Emilia-sama." Reveals a polite man that certainly held a much more regarded respect. Reveled in sparkling crimson hair, echoing footstep as he draws near. Shrouded of regality is the only thing she can get as impressions go.

"Lead her towards the head maid and she shall decide on what the tasking of hers will be." Tone befitting of a queen yet it was strange to hear slight timidness in its nature as it was spoken but I deemed it just me overthinking, it has been a rough day after all.

Following along the silent corridors, there's some eeriness felt but it was shortly dismissed by the other workers in the palace that was friendly to greet her for landing the job. Being blanked-minded, wandering thoughts to some places whilst walking, to be suddenly startled by Reinhardt knocking the door. "There's a new maid that was just hired, supposed Emilia-sama needed your help."

"Understood, I'll handle everything at this point on then." Said by the peach-haired, that wore a maid outfit. Ever seen none presence of emotion at its face as she nodded. That was odd but I once again, heed it no mind. "Introductions are needed so I'll start, myself' names Ram; the head maid of the royal palace since then." She looked at me with great expectations which was daunting but I won't lose.

"My name is Sylphy, the newly acquainted maid of the royal palace. It's best we get along, Ram-sama." I insisted the last part as a manner of respect, but I really hope she wouldn't take it the wrong way.

"Hmph," Looked away as Ram held her arms crossed, in her own prided. "As you should, let's get going, shall we." She looked at Reinhardt, as he then nodded. Walking away from them, as that was all done.

From then on, the day proceeded without any hitch. Ram was doing her own job in explaining what'll be purpose for the upcoming days, whilst I followed. Only was then a coincidence— but it was just expected, to be honest. While she was showing me around was then we met the majesty, wandering the corridor.

"Oh, Nee-san. How are you, and who's this woman beside you might be?" The man stood ever so joy, baffling the expectations of people who's not close this person. Stories travelling across lands of a great hero, along with its allies saving the world from demise; was an eccentric man that wore proud of a high-spirited demeanor. However, the head maid being his older sister?

"I told you many times already, Barusu-sama to never call me that." Strict as if it was of a mother scolding its child. That said, it was abit shocking of the king's sister was to be working as a maid.

"How can I not, you still call me that Barusu after all these years." Seemingly winning the odd conversation, earning the familiar 'hmph' but then I saw the lingering smile on the edge of her face as she looked away. Ah, so it was a friendly banter between them.

"Whatever, the one right beside me will be the new maid as she was picked by Emilia-sama after the successful tests conducted." Ram stated as I now took a form of a bow.

"My name is Sylphy, I'll be a new maid of the palace. Pleased to be working with you." Introduced myself another time for the day, "It's been a while since we last met." Albeit Ram is looking both at me and him strangely.

"Sylphy?" Making a thinking pose as he put his hands over its chin. "Right! One of the people saved by Emilia in the … " Stopped speaking mid-way as I loomed curious to what might be the reason. Coughed, "Anyways, it's been a strange fate to meet you again, ah, Sylphy-san." Smiled once again as he greeted me, though the blatant difference was that of a forced one.

◤—◢

Days had quickly gone by, same repetitive work but that became a personal comfort for me. Strutting along the vast hallways to hand over the bought fresh greeneries to the kitchen, struggled as I might, placing my hands into the doorhandle whilst holding the bags is a predicament.

Then the handle seemed to disappear as I kept swiping my hands to the supposed location of it, "Uhm, what are you doing?" A person asking but where is the question. It's right in front of me?

"Ah," One of the bags fell showing the person talking to be in a pose catching the fallen bag. I already messed up. Standing up then her hands indicated that meant to hand over some of the bag so I agreed.

We then went inside of the kitchen, as then I brought down the bags. "Thank you for that. You saved me." Chuckled abit I started to look at her in slight worry to why the silence. Tilted my head to show my confusion.

"I, I'm n-not really good with new people, oh, I'm sorry." Bowed her golden locks, I noticed we also had the same bright gold silked hair yet hers are much more apparent than mine. Even then more silky snowy skin, that I would even hesitate myself to touch. "I didn't mean to disrespect," Fiddling her hands as she made a sound of 'tsu~'.

Gasping seeing this situation, I have to clear her worries. "It's really fine, I believe this is the first time we met?" Observed the aqua eyes, narrowing as even more became shy. Unbelievably cute to see.

"It might be rude to say, but I actually known you for some time yet I can't bring myself to greet you." Facing the side as she spoken out her reasons. "Ah, don't take it the wrong way, I really wanted to but …"

Before she can say the uncertain excuse, "I understand, I'm Sylphy. Just a maid that started working days ago." I spoke up. Still fiddling are the other golden-haired maid's hands, opened her mouth to reply back.

"I am Louis, proud maid for Subaru-sama, ah, Emilia-sama too." That was strange, she seemed to be fond over more to the king than the queen, I wonder why's that. Opening of the wooden door, popped in a peach-haired maid to check up what was the cause of delay.

"What seems to be the reason of this?" Scorned found on her face as she asked the two maids in their inability of doing their tasks. Ram sighed then to cross her arms, "Alright, finished each other's greetings, now start preparing with the dishes. I'll supervise some of the process." Walked closer as she passed by to the table.

The two nodded at each other as they began to inspect and think what'll be the menu for dinner. "What are you two waiting for, hurry up." Commanded as she took the sharp knife and board, I then decided to wash the vegetables while seemingly Louis deliberately taking the role of preparing the cooking pots and alike.

◤—◢

It took awhile to get everything done but all was well in the end, leaving me with a free time to do so. I was hoping to take initiative to become friends as coworkers with Louis but she excused herself already having something to do.

Wandering the hallways, passing along some faces I don't recognize and the usual nobles willing to speak to its majesty. Until, I was facing the very last door in the dead-end of a hallway. I knew whose room it belonged but curiosity is scratching my hand to open. I knocked on the door as it ringed wooden. "Can I come in?"

"Give me a second to tidy up the papers." Sounds of crumpling as they were shifted, "Oh, right. You can come in now." I accepted the grant, opening to see the room being almost the same as the queen. Ever so bright the room being illuminated by the enormous window glass. Difference being the walls decorated with images and portraits of people I assume was really close to him. Very much a direct contrast to the tidied and simplistic office of his significant other. "How may I help you?"

He asked albeit I bowed first to show my respect, "I was merely wandering around the hallways, that I thought to offer help on contrary to you instead." Stepped on the side as I notice the kempt tray of a tea set. "Would you like some tea?" crouched as then to grasp the teapot.

"But we don't have any hot wa—" I summoned water at the basis of my hand as it poured down, steaming at the right temperature as I carefully set the tea leaves. "–ter, well that solves the issue." Laughed, putting aside the stacks of paper to the side available table in the left, creating a clearing of space.

"Here," Delicately gave him one of the prepared teacups as I took mine. Mindfully blowing the hot vapor then I finally sipping my made tea. "How is it?" Seeking criticism if ever, since this is the great majesty himself, he should have experience in these to tell what to improve upon.

"It's great, although as much you want to expect criticism, I still count these taste like leaves but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate them, I really do. It's just not me the right person to ask from." He read my mind. That aside, I still think it's lacking in something. I might ask Ram-san about it next time. "Is there anything would you like to say?" Seemingly to still drink the tea slowly to appreciate it.

"Then, I would like to ask how have you been?" I finished mine, putting it right back on the tray. Looked back whether he wanted another, nodded as I poured once again to both of our cups. "It's been a while since we saw last, no?"

"Hmm," Thinking then to reminiscent the times being concocted into a story to tell. "I may be lying if I said not much has changed since then but I can definitely say that it's a lot of crazy things had happened." Seemingly in the mood, he went on to tell the starting point of this eccentric adventure of how it became to be. Inadvertently spending my whole free time for the evening as the sky has finally gone dark.

Emotions felt the way he pronounced the stories, laughing and sobbing. I do wonder if he had a talent for drama, or just plainly skilled to tell the series of events. "Huh, we ended up talking for awhile that the sun has finally set." Seemingly not noticing it, I stood up in a panic.

"Oh!" Scurried to pick up the used teacups to put in the tray as I held above, "I'll get going then, Subaru-sama." Bowed as I turned around to leave through the door.

"It's been … nice meeting you, Sylphy-san." I pivoted my head back to him then what I saw was just a genuine smile coming from him, if weren't for the knowledge of him being a married man, I would act upon on these feeling of my heart skipping a beat. "It's nice to have someone to tell on these stories again, makes me feel old for real." Attempted to hide the face of mine as I left.

Taps of my heels echoed whilst I walked a path to reach the kitchen if ever needed assistance in serving the apparent dinner. Hearing a distant a noise from the door having lights beneath the gap, meant a person was inside.

"Ah, can we do this late– haah~" I was certain that I could've heard a muffled moan behind this door, only to come a realization that this was Lady Emilia's office. There was another part of me to satiate my curiosity but then the ringing noise of the other screamed in avoiding doing that at all cost. She won't do that right?

I took a step away and continued my route back. It might just be my imagination once again. Shrugging off my head to get rid of such indecent thoughts, hurrying towards the destination with a feeling I can't wrap my head around to what.

Subaru stared at the door as it clicked, the golden-haired maid has retreated back, leaving him once again alone in the room. Inhaled then exhaled as the wild story-telling of his took quite an effort, he wasn't able to finish it but atleast it ended on a good note. It really was a very long story to tell, sometimes it ended up with him having to rethink back whether it was worth it.

Harsh wind hitting the enormous window behind, downfall of the heavy rains, maybe some frequent strikes of flashing light of thunder. All the memories he cherished, and some thrown at the very back of his head in trauma. It was worth it no doubt yet the feeling of something missing was being thrown around him lately. Apparent continuation of such anxiety, he had no way to tell if this was very result of the countless deaths forming into instinct. He may have told such heroic tales and adventure but purposefully leaving out the hurtful parts as they don't deserve such burden.

"What a dilemma," Taking off from the chair to grab the hidden bottles of wine situated in the floor boards beneath him. "I guess its alright to do this once in awhile." Shrugged just when a few moments ago, he was drinking tea and now to be drowned in sorrows of wine.

Sounds of rain became ambient, though he can't help but feel anxiety about it. In any case, like he always does, will be doing his best to tough it out. Was it because of Sylphy mirroring the likes of his wife?

He must be sure to hope not.

Been of the passing months, colder than it should have. Subaru swore to remember such season to ever be snowy but since the disappearance of a certain great spirit, he had to wish for it to become possible to be seen again.

Shuddering with the cold, enduring it was quite a pain. Well, at the very atleast, he was finally able to wear the lavishly-made 'winter coat' that he offered to be manufactured by the Hoshin company in exchange that he'll be able to order for what he wanted it to look like. Though he didn't expect the part of it becoming a hit in the market, selling out in the cold regions such as the country of Gusteko. Unintentionally prospering the trade market with his other-worldly knowledge.

Stretching outwards to perform the traditional radio calisthenics he was known for, beginning to start off his thrill to discreetly sneak outside and wander along the great capital he worked hard for. In discreet to be not treated differently was his priority, humble being the pride of his. Finishing the remaining paper works whilst constant reminders to his staff that today was gonna be a day-off for him.

Reluctant sigh to do this routine since every now and then, reason was the lack of willingness from his wife. Even though, he tried multiple times to convince her, rejected profusely as there was something she needed to do that day. Such was the work needed to be done by the queen, he assumed although here he was currently in attempts of trying snuck off the palace in hopes of no one noticing.

Placed in the cellar was of a pathway outside, usually made as an escape route for emergency but he's making use of it as an escape away from the guards stationed in the front. As Subaru was about to head free, an unexpected sound then was heard behind him. Triggering goosebumps as hair stood.

"What are you doing in here?" Curiously asked yet she toned her voice harshly, in questioning the motive of this person reaching the door. "I may have you detained and questioned, if you don't answer. Try any funny business and I'll deal with you thoroughly." Familiar voice that was threatening him, he can't get out of this situation without having to explain himself. Failure of an attempt.

Subaru turned around slowly with his hands up, "Please don't hurt me." Pathetically smiled as he closed his eyes, in humor that she'll understand. Shocking the person that held her hands to summon magic if ever this one was hostile, on the contrary it was not. It was the foolish king that decided to be sneaky.

"S, Subaru-sam–mhm?!" Dashed to cover her mouth in the futile sabotage for the others to check what was going on. She quieted down, now expecting an answer from this eccentric man. Seeing that she was willing to listen, Subaru removed his grasp away and sighed at his failed operation. "What's the meaning of this?" She whispered at the unsightly king.

"Uhm, I just finished with everything else that's why I wanted to take a stroll around the capital." Hoping the maid of golden hair would understand. Humoring her with a light chuckle as he scratched the back of his head, being a child that got caught red-handed.

"I get that you wanted to atleast breath fresh-air but wouldn't it be simpler if you just asked one of the stationed knights to come with you as safety?" Sylphy crossed her arms in disappointment but as if it was obvious, Subaru rolled back his eyes in response, making her even more confused.

"That's the point, I just wanted to roam around the commonfolk without appearing like a sore thumb." Explaining his reasons while Sylphy continued giving him a narrowing look, but she can't help but sigh the same as him. Understanding the issues and responsibilities that came being as royalty, he would feel left out as becoming the privilege. "I tried to persuade Emilia-tan in coming along with me, but she said about taking care of some papers. I already did mine if you want to doubt me."

Sylphy tilted her head slightly in confusion, not about the former, it was the latter. He was talking about Emilia work-ridden that she needed to stay behind and to refuse the romance of his to stroll the beautiful sight that is Lugunica. Yet she knew that wasn't the case, as just awhile ago was the very same person as the queen was seen exchanging pleasantries with the sword saint alongside the palace's barren balcony and here was her husband sulking as his intentions, innocent.

"Hah …" Subaru exhaled his turmoil into just succumbing back to his office, dwindling time of the day-off he requested. But Sylphy's own turmoil was not solved, she can't jump to conclusions as that might hurt the foolish yet kind king. "Maybe I should just go back. Thanks for your time, Sylphy-san."

"No, wait." She unwittingly grabbed the left arm of Subaru, ceasing his footsteps out of the cellar. "Well, I did say about someone guarding you, I'm more than qualified to be that person, although not as much a knight but enough." Confident in her abilities to protect as much she pride her own work being a maid.

"Heh, cheeky Sylphy-san." This was the ever-so mighty king of the Lugunican land, teasing a maiden, resulting in her acting bashful as she tried to hide away her face in embarrassment, letting go of his arm in the process. Distancing away as she realized the beating heart of hers.

"Wh– do you really want to go outside or not?" Face that became tinge of red, raising her hands then to waving them, hoping to clear the supposed misunderstanding. Subaru finding this scene cute, smugly held his chin high to still manage in the ways of flirtiness then realizing the fact that he was already taken, he stopped.

"Let's get going then." Leading the way to the path, holding his hand in the door handle to reveal a dawn, the sun slowly rising from the horizon. Cold breeze hitting against their faces, causing slight shivering. Even more so from the maid that only wore its intended work outfit for the season but not for combatting the harsh winds directly. "Have mine instead. I already have my own cloak so it's probably will be fine." Handing his own like it's so obvious, like a true gentleman he was.

Sylphy stared at him in estrangement and a bit in awe. "You need it more than I do. Do I really need to remind you that you're a person much more important than me?" Quickly refusing the offer as she handed back the coat to the aloof king.

"Hmm, well I plan to blend in with the commonfolk, so I guess the title doesn't apply to me as of right now. Think of it as an alter ego of mine." Stating seriously yet the smug shot betrays it, thinking it was clever, adding a 'heh' at the end.

"If that were the case then I have no reason to entertain you further and shall apprehend into question as to how a commonfolk managed to get access to the royal palace without permission." Smirked as she raised her head high up, willing to start a banter. Subaru just stood there processing the audacity of this woman, but not wanting to lose and with enough training after the times he bantered against Ram.

"Since you so insisted to treat me such, then so be it. I then order you to be in complicit in this attempt to sneak off from the palace, starting with you by wearing this coat." Handing back once again the coat in anticipation, the maid could only reluctantly whine. Grabbing the coat as she wore around it herself, shockingly comfortable and the faint aroma of his seemed to linger on her nostrils.

Seeing that he was successful in persuading the golden-haired maid, nodded and signaled her to follow. "Don't blame me if you ever get a cold." Acting all against yet her true feelings being that she's glad, the generosity of a certain person creating such a turmoil on the woman but was the nostalgia of having to experience exhilarating since then, she wanted to cherish it such.

"Alright, let's go!" Embarked to the lower parts of the capital, abruptly making physical contact with the pure maiden's hand was Subaru, densely unnoting the fueled strife of hers to indulge the experience. Its heart skipping a beat, as they set on to walk by foot.

◤—◢

Seen by everyone yet paid it no mind, lack of judgement as they go on about their daily lives whilst the two figures of a man and woman, a king that hid itself blending in with the common populace and a servant that tries to keep its professionality in-check.

They walked for awhile until stopping by a stall that resides an abundance of fruits and vegetables. "How are you doing these days?" Subaru casually stated, the one beside her in confusion in how this was going to blow their cover.

"Don't scare me like that," Seeing that this person behind the stall was rational to think about the absurdity in seeing the very ruler of the lands, casually saying greetings to the man. Seemed too reluctant in even bother in such fact, "So the usual then?"

Nodding carefree, reaching his hands to grab the bag filled with a crimson fruit that was the appa. "Come back here next time." Securing the goods in place in his arm, Sylphy has been led to the conclusion that this was not the first time, if that wasn't obvious already just awhile ago of the attempt to sneak off by himself.

"Well, I did promise and I'm willing to uphold it, that would be foolish for me as a ruler not to." Smirked wide as the stall just seemed to be amused of these presumed common antics of his. Then was a shout heard on the right, turning over in that direction to see a young woman of hair mint waving its hand high, gathering their attention.

Seemingly catching that they knew of her presence, she ran towards them but specifically targeting the nasty-eyed ruler. Lightly groaning as she hit his stomach as she wrapped around his torso. "Natsuki-san!" Her breast ever-soft pressing against his body whilst the friendly hug that she tightens the grip even more.

"C, Can't— breath … " Wheezed in pain, another reminder of the patheticness that basically people around him are way too strong for their own good. The young woman in question opened its eyes to twinkle as it gave a bright smile, finally letting go of the poor man that was challenged of its rib strength.

The stall owner became even more amused, almost to the point of laughing. Leaving out only the servant to be so astounded, and the way they treat each other as if they were the same pedestal. Until the realization struck, Subaru; never once put himself above others as he's willing to stand-by and lower himself to be friendly to almost anyone. Showing the truth that was the kindness shown by this person. She can't help but smile at the scene watching them.

Sylphy directed her eyes to the bag that was about to collapse after raising it high by him to allow the mint-hair girl to freely hug him. She stepped close to offer in handling it instead, in which he agreed. "Haven't seen you in a while, Plum-chan."

"We've been doing great, though Nii-san has certainly grown some prickly hair on your chin." Plum complained yet the smile contradicts her presumed resent, leading to Subaru clownishly scream in pain of agony after being 'hurt' by the woman's comment.

"You pain me, Plum-chaaaan." Subaru bantered back, "Though you as well have grown too." Plum, a young woman reaching the ripe age of adulthood, whilst the looks mirroring his father just right beside her. It would really make the lucky man be so happy if they ended up with her.

"Yeah, grown enough but they're not for you." The stall owner, Kadomon shot back grinning. Making the woman pout and started hitting him. "Ey, watch the merchandise."

"Even if that was the case, Emilia-tan would always be inside my number one and no room for others." Boldly claimed of him while the maid beside him heard it too, painstakingly made aware of the situation. He was already taken and that was the queen, placing someone so dearly in their heart, leaving her in the dark on what to feel about it. She knew it needed to be acceptance but some deep consciousness clung on to that flickering hope so distant.

"We should get going then, Sylph– huh?" Tears found on her eyes desperate to come lashing out. "Are you alright?" Subaru worried, asking the maid in question. Seeming to finally notice the droplets on her cheeks, raising its arm to wipe down the sorrows.

"I'm fine, shall we go?" Closing her eyes, tilting its head sideways trying to convince that she was okay although Subaru was not eased of his worries for her, he decided to let it be for now and ask later. Saying goodbyes to the mint-figured family, and continued their stroll around the capital.

It was a pretty normal stroll, grabbing sticks of grilled meat from the niched stalls and finally sitting down at the middle fountain. The walk was effort inducing thus it can't hurt to rest still. Both stagnate awkwardly as they chose to stay quiet, to Subaru it was fine, seeing that he gets to take time and admire the everyday lives of the people he desperately and worked hard for just to be happy, albeit seeing the smiling faces and laughter was already enough as repayment.

As for Sylphy, it was another question each bundled up feelings to be determined, she herself being the most uncertain. For years that he was hidden away by that monster, gave up to never see the light of day, baring everyday shown no emotions to keep its mind sane.

『 Is it alright to indulge myself in feelings lost years ago? 』

Asking herself that was this the happiness she strived looking for, yet may seem foolish to see others happiness to be its own sense of jolly. All her doubts washed away the moment she struck her head up to observe the contented face of his seeing the thriving populace, becoming his own dignity. Although she never doubted the abilities of his, this was the turning point of her own admiration of him.

"I guess it is fine after all." She conceded with her own turmoil and let it rest to be replaced as by the sense of comfort in respecting him as a kind person.

Hearing the mumble, but confused as to what it meant, "Did you say something, Sylphy-san?" Another worry struck since just seeing before her own tears streaking on the beautiful face of hers awhile ago.

"Nothing." Nonchalantly said however the resulting wide smile of a maid troubled just a few moments ago, concluding that it has too eased Subaru's worries and smiled along with her. Rest a respectable being and someone that admires them.

Suddenly laughing out loud, "You know, you worry me sometimes." Bunches of bystanders seeing the couple's wholesome atmosphere, decided to join in and be merry even more.

◤—◢

Stuck between the piles of paper works to be done, another time come past since Sylphy becoming his partner in crime, just to take a step back then a breather in seeing the scenery, seemingly her agreeing in each time, it became a routine in enjoying what's left in life. But worries still reside somewhere, in each ticking time goes, the ever more distant it became for him and Emilia.

Being raised as gentleman, he couldn't let that slide. Prompting him to think of a plan to fix that issue, he resolute as thinking a bunch of ideas. "Should I go with something simple, or all out?" Knowing her wife after years they've been together, Subaru would know how to atleast cheer her up. "Agh, I really want to all out as the preparation but she prefers something meaningful instead."

In context, set along a calendar that had its days nearing in the very most important milestone he achieved. Marrying his beloved after sweat and tears, a fruitful conclusion to all of his efforts. The upcoming yearly anniversary that was slowly drawing closer. Usually, he would ask her out in the fields brimming of beautiful and day-glazed flowers, but the sudden distance that she gave was worrying.

"Subaru-sama, may I come in?" Ringed behind the door a voice, it was the foretold partner in crime of his.

"Of course, let yourself in." Answered him as the click of the door opening, Sylphy holding up a tray of a tea set. Stepping in as she set aside the tray in the vacant space of a coffee table next to him.

"Would you mind some tea then?" Rhetorically asked but Subaru welcomed the greetings either way. Halting his written hand, to grab the recently steamed tea towards his desk while the other decided to make herself comfortable. After all the toleration of his antics, it had ensued to Sylphy making the office her place in taking a break every other day. Not like Subaru would mind, he was feeling lonely after all.

"Tough day?" Sat in the couch formally posed, as she drank her own tea. Waiting an answer being as a conversation starter while seemingly unfazed, letting her mind wander.

"So, it seems." Subaru hanged back as he stretched out his arms in exhaustion. Noticing that there was something plastered across his face, indicating that there was something troubling him but still keeping the professionalism, she's in no place to ask. If he wanted to open up to her then so be it.

"I know that this question might be strange, but have you seen anything out of the ordinary with Emilia-tan?" Subaru closing his eyes in worry, thinking up memories in the past months that might have offended her and was sulking as he hasn't yet noticed.

Meanwhile was Sylphy, stiffening in what to say. Telling the presumed truth can hurt, even more so whether it ended up as a misunderstanding on both. Trying her best to not let it show on her face, "I don't think I have." Even as it may have been a lie, she wasn't sure either.

"Is that so … " Sighed even more, ran out of the tea, he continued once more in signing off papers regarding its own economy and stability. Overworking was never really his best suit; he could've asked some help in offloading his work to others but that would mean that he'll be bothering them with even more chore. "Well, to be honest. She has been distancing away from me, I don't know know whether if I did something wrong or … "

She kept silent, "So if you would like to, come with me and find a suitable gift for her." Subaru not heeding to look up, as he waved his hands still buried in papers. Her eyes wandered out in the window, well either way, this was their usual routine making the part of guarding him was just pretext.

Sylphy unrealizing her current desire was to be around with him, affecting her decisions to agree always whenever he asked. "If you're offering then I'll accept, Subaru-sama." Bowing down in respect, she's already satisfied that he felt comfortable in bringing her along in regards with his personal trouble.

"Y'know, we have been this like this for awhile, you can call me just by my name." Blurting out a simple fact, still had its eyes on his work, not noticing the reddened blush of the aurous maid.

"W, Well, if you say so," Stuttered then attempted to straighten herself in pride, "Subaru-sa– Subaru." Coughing up her embarrassment, earning a snicker from the man that was clearly teasing the maid. Pouting as she sulked putting down her teacup.

"Usual time then?" He inquired, simultaneously fluttering papers, and looked up to see her reaction. Sylphy gave it not much thought since its no doubt for her to instantly accept and nodded to answer his question.

"I'll get going then, I'll be taking my leave … " Standing up and gathered the used tea set back to the tray, "Subaru." And there she goes, leaving on with a click of a door. Subaru just stared blankly at the doorway; he too has grown fond of her.

Subaru riled up to find the fitting gift, and once again be happy like it should've been. Slowly by time, the stacks of paper dwindled and enough endurance, he'll be sure to make it before it counts as late.

Till finally, he was finished with the daily quota. Proud of himself, sat up and directed himself to the drawers. Finding two sets of cloaks, each had its own stories to tell yet by far its uses was its enchantment but he kept it as for sentimentality's sake. Seeing the only worn was his and the other barely never used ever since, he can feel a slight grimace. No worries though, as for him that he'll be able to manage in fix their relationship back when it was like before.

Got ahold of his satchel placed discreetly behind the hanged clothes, and more or less looks prepared just for the occasion. Merrily hopped out of his office, and walking to their rendezvous. Then two figures crossed his sight, quickly made himself hidden and eavesdropped to both. It was Emilia and right beside her was Reinhardt.

He really doesn't know what to feel about this display, feeling a tinge of envy as observed the smiling face of his wife whilst talking to the sword saint. How unfair it must be, every meal of the day and none himself could see her glow in front of him and the more it felt so gloomy. He hated it but what does to a kindness of letting the revel-red knight in working as her very own bodyguard.

Generously agreed a few years back, the inevitable lost of the Dragon Maiden candidate that was Felt. Aspiring a chance in winning because of her own lineage but the diluted appearance of blood-relations with a menace that was the Witch Cult, many of the people ran towards the rumors and weakened her position.

The worries that stood as obstacle in keeping her happy, it was then decided for her to disappear back in living a fulfilled life somewhere, alongside her own acting parent appointed in taking care that is Rom. Wanting a peaceful life too, live a life of sorrow and grudge, he agreed. Leaving the sword-saint to its devices once more, unresolved issues with his family but improving over time as they tolerated each other.

Being a friend of his after a grueling fate after fate, Subaru decided to give him a chance in coming along Felt but refused as reasoning goes that he's still a royal knight and can't just abandon his oath to the fight as long he still had his sword so suddenly.

Leading to this scene, that he can't help but feel bitter. Although if one to realize that he has been cahoots with Sylphy to became a hypocrite, Subaru would deny such statement as his heart really belonged to Emilia and he himself would know his own boundaries, inclined to keep his end on the promise they made for each other. Narrowed sight in the questionable on whether if she does too.

Cowardice in decision to not cross fate for now, and Subaru went the other way avoiding the two. Making his way to the usual place, and there she was standing right beside the crates leaned on by her. However, there was an oddity on this meeting, another person appeared other than them.

"Subaru-samaaaa~!" Clamored another aurous-hair maid, Subaru swore that he saw a literal spark emanating from this lively woman. "I followed Nee-san on the way here and decided to come with you two." It was an innocent statement but he sweated about causing a misunderstanding if it wasn't cleared up before hand.

"Oh, Louis-san, you coming along too in finding my Emilia-tan's gift?" Smoothly defusing the situation, strange that he saw a flash of indifference from her when he mentioned Emilia, yet recovered quickly of shown smile.

"Yep, tsu~" Clasped her hands, as she twirled around in delight. Subaru could just chuckle at the situation, until he noticed the guilty look of Sylphy at the corner.

"I'm sorry, Subaru." At fault for this blunder, moping of a chance that he may never trust her again because of this, except it was the other way around and he really didn't mind it. It was his fault for keeping it as a secret, of course. "It'll not happen again."

"It's alright, it's just Louis-san over here after all." He reasoned as then to raised his shoulder to shrug. Louis proceeding to pout heavily, came close and swayed his arm around.

"What's that supposed to mean~" Becoming of the the high-spirited made morphed of its face to be gloomy, Subaru just berated himself for accidentally making them look that way.

"Alright, you two ready?" Patting down the satchel of his, waiting for their response. "Though, it still worries me that Ram– eh, Nee-san will find out that the two of you are missing." Suddenly gone quiet and looked up see them staring at each other until Louis and him gave eye contact.

Smugly stating, "We finished most of our chores for today, and we did get permission from herself. It'll be fine if we go back before sundown." Hands on both of her waist, very proud much nature was this young woman of a maid that he really wasn't sure how it came into this but that's fine. Sylphy seems to be of the same thought.

"Onwards!" Jokingly stated as he marching to the backdoor, and went on their journey of finding the suitable gift for his loved one.

◤—◢

In his honest thoughts, the cloak was really effective in deterring unwanted attention, unfortunately expected being him as the ruler of the place, then to be baffling in finding out that he's sneaking out and frolicking was an outcome he would very much avoid.

Concealing his identity behind a robe indeed ticked off unnecessary attention but that doesn't apply to the fairly young maidens right on each side of him. Unthought was such a harem style to live but even if he scolded both they would insist. Letting it slide since they were here for an important mission.

"Tch, lucky bastard." Subaru heard the feels of the men around him flowing with disdain seeing Louis hugging across his left arm, not aware of the unintentional copping the unladen breasts of her, separated between clothe but each sway has the feeling of stiff on her chest. Fluster found on his face was the result. Meanwhile Slyphy staying a professional distance, that can't help but feel jealous of Louis' casual demeanor of hers toward Subaru.

Cried abit on the inside of the aura of gazing eyes, but he was determined in this. Until finding themselves in a street filled to the brim of shops. "This is perfect!" Subaru thought, then ending up at the women's section of a clothing store. Condemning himself of letting the two drag him at such.

Wowed both Louis and Sylphy by the abundance of clothes fitted for women, Subaru can't help but feel out of place. Once again can feel the gazing eyes from the patrons of the store. Decided to make himself small in nearby corner, just staring at the supposed maids that came along.

Louis as air-headed she was, held up an undergarment for bottoms so abruptly and strangely ecstatic. Sylphy caught sight of this and gasped, quickly tapping her shoulders to seemingly scold her then whispered, after which Louis then took a glance at him and back at her, noddingly to what may she had said. Putting the garment back to its place, and headed somewhere leaving his field of vision.

Left with the two, awkwardly silent. Subaru still baffled just awhile ago from Louis' goof. Coughing up in order to ease the atmosphere between both of them, Sylphy heeding his intentions, continued looking for clothes that fit her. Making its way towards a sort of dressing room and closed its tall curtains. Subaru doesn't know where to look, in the are they pulled him were mostly adult-themed ones on the side while the other were dresses for common wear. Surrounded by eyes he really didn't want, even worse by the cloak giving him off as suspicious.

Wondering how this became to be, as just the start was finding a gift then to be waiting for the two girls' fashion. "What do you think, Subaru?" acting so coy, presenting a beautiful woven dress whilst its color pairs along her golden-hued hair. Combination of shaded aqua and its slick-silver eminently fits her stature.

Red struck on his cheeks, seeing such beauty of this woman was. Inhaling as to calm himself, "Uh, you look great." Meekly stated while beating his conscious-self over it, contagiously flustering too the other hearing that remark.

"You really mean that?" Posing herself narrowing eyes, Subaru sweated as he was forced to look again. Giving in would be unfaithful, as so persisting is the only choice but such cruelness to be a maiden asking whether the looks fitting.

"Y, Yes!" Stuttering, then prayed to someone save him from this fate. Feeling his back against the wall, he has no way out of this. Raised his hands to scratch the back of his, utterly nervous.

Then a familiar voice shouted, apparent that he'll be saved, "Subaarruuuu-saaamaa~," until it wasn't. Granting his eyes to look at behind the person that gathered the unwarranted eyes due to her shouting, reveals a glowing figure and it'll be lie if he wasn't mesmerized by it. Reckoning his circumstance even worse, "How do I look tsu~!" Like a child proudly boasting itself.

Louis now wore a kind of a silky-dress with its support hanged only on one shoulder then the skirt reach just about her knee that patterned around its border, whilst a harden-leather strapped around her chest area to emphasize its bust reminiscent of women that used bows. "What's going on with you two?" Subaru said stunned, questioned the ulterior motives of these two women.

"Well, it's not everyday we're able to go out on days like these." Sylphy smiled explaining and Louis joined in widen smile. "And we would like to be atleast presentable to our king, no?" Realizing what they meant, Subaru can't help but sigh.

"Alright, tell me once you're done though you might wanna hurry as I, too have something to purchase." Subaru concluding the both of excitement, yet still satisfied to see him so flustered of them wearing such dress.

The shop-keep wrapping everything within a bag, paying for it was no cheap as beauty comes on a price, atleast speaking about the dresses. The two gold-hued maids paid in-hand from their savings, as a servant of the royal palace is never a low-wage. Paid fruitfully in exchange of high effort is worth the job. Even though Subaru offered to pay for them more than enough, they refused in a sense of dignity and a way to show the results of their hard-work.

Walked the streets filled with citizens-alike, equality was sought as the promise of him and Emilia before they risen up to royalty. Developing into further diversity in humans and demi-humans. None most of them cared anymore for the grudge trenched in blood of the war after years striving achievements to convince.

Smiling at that fact that his wife managed to keep her end in the promise she made for the people's peace and prosperity. Selfless was she, he thought that it's worth it to fight for, and he did. Mixed emotions as most of it were the countless deaths he had to suffer, to pay the price in living ironically. But seeing as its conclusion as it is now, it'll be best to put those horror in the back of his mind to look-back with no regret.

It'll best to find something nostalgic while getting the most value he can, which is virtually anything if he asked but he prefers the sentimentality of it. The group stopped walking to be in front of a jewelry store.

"This should be it." Subaru grabbing the door handle and entering, along with the two that also came in as curiosity. Across the many accessories, one stood out in the corner of his eyes. Coming closer to inspect getting the attention of the shop-keep.

"Who'll it be for, hmm~?" Hummed the big-breasted store-owner, swaying her hand around of what took his attention. Emerald glow of a crystal, buried in metal casing acting as a pendant. Lazily eyeing the man, whilst it smirked seeing the both young ladies behind him none-minding him as they observed other shiny stones.

"It'll be for my wife!" Joyously declared, but the woman had other plans. Hunching over as its bosom sagged, Subaru stepped back as a response and goose-bumps felt by his skin seeing her devilish smile.

"I meant, who's it for between those two?" Clarifying, the woman still smiling. Subaru bothered, seeing that it became a misunderstanding. Looked down as he sighed, confusing her as this wasn't the reaction she was looking for.

"Those are just my friends, actually. They just came along." The smile of hers morphed into a pensive state, he may be flustered as a result but seeing him this determined was no fun. Though can't help wonder even if they were actually just friends, then what was those gesture of those two women quickly casted glances at this man. Could it be that?

"You're no fun, well are you interested in this one then?" Removing it outside of its glass encasement, showcasing it for him to see. Sparkling glow as expected, reeking a familiarity of symbol from a close one that's not here anymore.

Agreeing that he'll take this one, the woman putting the lavishly crystal pendant inside a small box enchanted with magic in any-case to avoid getting damaged. Paying heaps of gold coin in a pouch, even surprising the shop-keep in how unhesitant he was.

The gift was already picked upon, now only was the preparation of the venue. Of course, he wouldn't just give it to her and that would be it. He's Natsuki Subaru, everything had to be extravagant. Needing to mix things up for this one, since normally it was the same celebrational party thrown by him. It wouldn't hurt for it to be different this time. This was their fifth-year milestone of their marriage after all.

Spending the effort in the preparation behind her back as an element of surprise. Speaking with close friends, and that landed a marvelous view of the reformed Priestella. Gone were the ashes of massacre and left only the scene of tranquility. It's perfect as a venue. Carriage ride that'll take hours but it'll be worth the wait. But that would be the plan where they'll take their badly-needed vacation, as for now, it'll just be a quiet dining at a prestigious restaurant of which he unheeded its price of reserving the entirety of it. Anything he would just for the smile of his undefeated number one such as his Emilia-tan.

◤—◢

The setting and rise of the sun took many places, until it was finally the day where he would enact the plan. Laughing uncharacteristically in excitement, making the grey-haired man beside him uncomfortable and apparently creeped-out by the sudden gesture. "You're scaring me Natsuki-san, please stop that."

Their once internal affairs handler, now promoted into a position of handling now the economy of a country. Such a wild contrast as he tolerates the antic of his best-friend also known as the king of that country. "What are you talking about Otto, today's the day!" Rubbing his hands together, unwittingly forming a horrific face that'll surely make anyone faint.

"Haah, it sure is." The grey-haired person can't blame Subaru for being this ecstatic, it's his wife. Otto can relate to the feeling too since he himself too have been married to a wonderful beast-woman waiting for him to come home. But he unfortunately had to excuse himself to stay abit longer in the palace to help the troubles of a good friend.

"Everything's ready right?" Said by the man with almond-shaped eyes, clasping his hands seeing the table's being prepared, as the ambient lighting of mood that you'll see just about in any prestigious five-star restaurant you would see back in Earth.

"We've been at this for multiple times, it's almost done and just when you come back over here, everything will be good to go." Looking at the sun that's about to settle down, "Seems like you need to escort your date then, Nat– no, Subaru." Patting the shoulders of his friend, Subaru getting the message dealt a handshake with him then goes on his way back to the palace.

Swiftly ran in towards to the large castle, the most important gift tucked beneath his pockets. Keeping his hands inside in paranoia of it falling off, as long he has in it his possession, Subaru can keep calm. Thrilled to see what will be Emilia's face look like when she sees what he's got in store for today.

In jolly, closing his eyes while running wasn't a good idea. Bumping on to someone while he was running in the hallways, "Ow, tsu~" Rubbing her back in pain, whilst Subaru stood up to help her stand to fix the blunder. "Watch where your going, Subaru-sama~."

"Ahah, I'm sorry. I was just excited to pick-up Emilia-tan, since you know, today's the day?" Subaru said his apology and reason in his haste, Louis figuring it out and made an 'ah' sound. Pointing her hands on the specific path of the hallway.

"She should be in her office; I saw her awhile ago with Reinhardt-san too but …" Louis didn't manage to continue her words as Subaru already ran in that direction while shouting his thanks. She can't help but feel worry, but that would be blasphemous if she thought of that, wouldn't it?

His feet now place right outside the door, he could discern that there's someone inside the room. It's finally time. No going back at this point, sometimes he would look back if things were different since then, a circumstance that he never did open the like of a pandora's box. Fate could be just too cruel, ungiven a break. Cursing the world for his misfortunes.

He abruptly opened the door as his antics to surprise her, "Emiliaaaa-taaaann~!" Face plastered with the widest genuine smile he can, shouting her name in flirt. But he didn't know that'll he would be the one shocked the most. Morphed its face from joy into horror, his back meeting with the ground. Quickly raised his hands to hide his terrified mouth, tremble as it made its way.

Dropping the contained box to the ground, as it made a 'fssh' sound, the enchantment doing its work on protecting the treasured valuable inside yet it didn't do much to protect the owner's heart being chipped away in denial.

"S, Subaru!" Emilia in suddenness, drool found beneath its mouth as it tucked someone's familiar head below her waist. Seemingly holding the man's hair rough, while her face crimson-red streaked through out till the edges of its ears.

Subaru's heart beaten into a pulp, unnoticed of his eyes breaking into tears. Forever staining the carpet with his sorrows. "Tch," Hastily getting back on his feet, as he grabbed the fallen box and there he ran. No destination, just wants to get away from a horrible nightmare it could be.

Isolated with his thoughts along the barren hallways, drowning itself of thoughts of question as to why must be the world so cruel. Contemplation of his life, twiddled between his palms. Rationality became weak, yet an underlying thought that this wasn't her first time. Fearing that it made sense, fitting into place of a horrifying puzzle.

『 Was there reason to live, if the only reason you had, ever easily betrayed your feelings. 』

The supposed palace that was meant to be quiet and tranquil, became in contrast. Confusion as to where had been the king's whereabouts unknown.

Sylphy awaked from her slumber, with the sudden rowdiness of footsteps outside her room. Then a knock came along, "Slyphy-san, we could kindly need your help." Stepping aside, wearing her clothe footwear and opened the door. Louis had her eyes in a state of confusion and fear.

"What might seem be the problem?" The drowsy maid, forming herself to avoid yawning. Though seeing the disoriented look on the other, makes this concern very serious. With the incoming servants also joining in from the back.

"Subaru-sama disappeared; the queen just then came to us to help find him." Louis grievously stating yet a break that was the bitter tone she used spatting the queen. Sylphy questioned why did the very important could just vanish, just when it's the day he cherished much. Observing what Louis said, seemingly spiting Emilia, even the thought could be heresy but the two knows something that the other doesn't.

"Do you know something about this, Louis-chan?" Inadvertently the tone of Sylphy's voice suspicious, but she had to know what might be a clue that help find him.

Hesitatingly mumbling her mouth, Louis took her inside the room to avoid any eavesdrop. "There was someone else in Emilia's office, just when Subaru-sama bumped into me and ran off towards there." She whispered, suspicions that dwelled before. Distant memory of she denied could be true, disgusting of the queen to be tainted as that.

Her heart shattering of what might have been he felt, Subaru was a very kind person. Undeserving of this yet why must it be like that?

Blaming herself, for her inaction had led to this situation. Could it be any different if she told him sooner?

Regrets thrown around, blankly staring at Louis of which its face found to be filled with disdain on her own conclusions, "Are you alright, Sylphy-san?" Dropping her usual quirk, asking in concern for the one feeling horror.

"A, Ah, I'm fine. W-we should start looking for him." Stammered as she tries to compose herself, blaming pointed towards her even in reality it wasn't, Louis saw the clouded judgement of the woman in front of her.

"Alright, follow my lead then." Louis now taking the initiative in finding the man she plenty admired, Sylphy being the same, starts on with the search for the man they cherished.

Far-beyond the hallways, glass door opened ajar. Whooshed the evening fog and cold wind. Here was a man stationed on the edge-knit of the balcony. Tears streaking of a waterfall towards the grassy ground beneath the tall niche of the castle.

"I could swear, that I feel abit of Déjà Vu being situated in this place. Even though, I hold distaste to even coming in here." Swinging his feet along a possible death just one push away. Funny thought that there was a reality almost same as this, but that was just mere narcissism. Bitterly laughing, undeciding in risking his life to reset back, praying that atleast make the checkpoint just enough.

Years past since he tasted death, unsure if such power even worked anymore. If only there was a way to wake up from this nightmare, but he thrown that chance. Hopeless to no one to clung-on to, desperation into standing back up.

It's a long way down, enough time to regret someone's decision. Sniffled as he raised his hands to rub the reddened nose after the abuse it went through. Wheezing for air, empty-minded on what to do next. This was supposed to be a flawless anniversary for them both, yet that wretched man was there.

"Ahah," Pathetic that Subaru thought that he was. Hearing the clanking noise from below, it seems like the others were out to look for him, how could he bother them for his fault. Footsteps were then heard behind him, already been found but atleast someone was there to see him do his final act.

Pushed itself off away from the ledge, expecting drafts of air against his fall but then all of a sudden lifted up the body of his and pulled him back to the land of the living. "Subaruu-saammaa," Hoarse throat as if it were cried before. "W, What do you think a-are you doing … "

Slammed his back in the cold concrete of the balcony, there was the two aurous-hued maids hugging him tight. Feeling their affections resonate within his soul, tearing up once again to how painful it was. "I, it j-just hurts so– much." Gasping in-between words, struggling to elaborate but the other two already knew what could've happened.

"W, We'll be here fo–for you." Sylphy forcing a tough front to comfort the scared man but she herself can't stop her trembling hands. Unsure if they can even help, Louis feels mutual at the feeling. Breathing in and out, Subaru strived to compose himself.

New footsteps entered their ears, "Ah, you already found Subaru-sama." Relieved to see him alright, but the servant seemed to still sweat the details, something else had happened.

"Is there something wrong?" Sylphy inquired the man that stood meekly, its face could already mean it does, but to what it'll be is the question. Louis still continuing to pat down Subaru, calming down his breathing, unable to stop yet the sobbing.

"It's about the Emilia-sama, the queen too had also vanished." Hesitatingly said, as this was within earshot of their majesty. Ever becoming vulnerable, pained each time the servant looked at him.

"Liar." Subaru mumbled indifference staring into an empty space, confusing the two. Louis shot a glance to the newcomer attendant and Sylphy that he wasn't referring to them at any way. Unmoving, stayed in place. Mixed feelings of whether he should be worried or to plainly scoff.

The harsh wind kept blowing, seems the storm has yet to pass. Every preparation he did for that day didn't matter anymore, but he can't care about that either. Abrupt realization, or a regret whether he should've kept up with the lies that day and proceeded as usual to avoid hurting himself.

Even without the knowledge of that fact, would it be much more painful the longer the secret has gone, he's not sure anymore. All that's left is him, and his thoughts. Depressingly laid his head on the office table, stacks of paper scattered that of which he tried fixing awhile ago but gave up.

"You look unsightly, Barusu." Unable to even react shocked in the sudden appearance of a peach-haired maid. Subaru tiredly pivoted his head to meet her eyesight.

"You think so?" Black found underneath his eyes, deprived of sleep for the past few days. Busying himself in work to subdue the underlying ache in his heart. Fragility that certain words can already cause ripples, breaking himself into tears.

Pitiable, the maid thought. Demeanor that she greatly cared for this man, hatred for whoever caused him for to be this way. Casually putting down a plate of cut apples on the space right beside him, "I'll leave these here. I should mention that Otto-san will come later evening, so make yourself atleast presentable, please?" Uncharacteristically removing the bark from her words, as so far to beg stripped of pride. Causing her worry in empathy, hoping that days will get better soon.

Expended a sigh, waving his hands as if it were to shoo. "Alright, Alright." Subaru almost mumbling to how quiet it is, but enough for her hear as it was just them in the room. Nodding towards him then took her leave. Silence returned to the room, aloofly had his eyes to the pared apples. Dare tried to stand up, but his arms wobbled causing to fall back into his chair.

Fatigued, a wish for everything to go back the way it was. Giving rest at will was his wish. "Subaru, are you still there?" Spoken out-loud behind the door, a familiar someone that it'll be pathetic to see him right now.

"I'm right here, though I don't think you would want me see me like this." Being helpless in even raising its head, 'how pathetic.' He thought while continually staring at the untouched plate.

"Such a thing, I'm coming in, if you don't mind." Clasping of the door, as she entered with a tray that contained a set of teacups. Keening the room, in its current state ridden-wild. Then until, the untouched pared apples occupying the table she planned on to putting the tray. Pushing the plate aside to make room, saddened that he didn't take not one bite.

Staringly at the man lost all hope, moping on the cold-oak table. She decided to take it up herself fixing up the scattered-about papers, stacking them neatly. Seeing that Subaru had no complaints against it, she continued. Leaving only the unkempt part, was him.

Unusually sulky that a person he was, albeit known for otherwise. Everyone around him cherished him so well, that by just being around him could always bring them to smile. To see him thrashed into this situation was unnerving. Glisters of the after orange-sun downed shined upon him, tranquil as the realization of Sylphy that he had fallen asleep.

"Ah," Perturbed on what to do, she was expecting a conversation just to check-up on him. Having brought tea as a conversation-starter was now a lost-cause. Sylphy let out a breather in the failed attempt, inadvertently started to stare at the longing face of his.

Setting down her teacup, making her way across closer to observe the peacefulness found on his face that just awhile ago looked so disturbed. Feeling the urge to act upon, brought her hands towards the disheveled hair, unmindfully combing through streaks of hair as he softly breathed. "I'm sorry." Apologized for a fault not hers, to someone that is unconscious.

"Sorry for what?" Unfamiliar voice that spoke behind her, frightening to the bone as she swiftly stepped aside away from him after getting caught red-handed. There was a gray-haired man that stood on the doorway, holding a liquor bottle that is seemingly high-quality wine by its neck.

"A, I w-was just trying to wake him up." Uncertain tone of an answer, the strange man just stared at her for awhile, scanning her from top to bottom. Then sighed, as if it were disappointed. Sylphy felt a nerve hit, the audacity of this man to violate her figure. "What are you looking at?"

"I could feel like there was a misunderstanding assuming from your tone, but that aside it's really unfortunate he already fell asleep. We were gonna have our usual drinking session today." Decided to walk over to the nearest couch, whilst Sylphy stood still at where she was. Knowing that he too is trying to ignore the elephant in the room, then she wouldn't budge about it.

"Would you care for some tea then?" Discreetly heating the once cold tea for it not to be a waste. Pouring for herself, as she waited for a response whether he also wanted his.

"I don't see why not." Agreed as he placed the wine bottle to a strange location that was the floor, perplexing as to what he'll do. Then so suddenly, opened a hidden compartment with ease. There was a hidden space for Subaru only to know yet this man, "Oops, guess you weren't supposed to know about this. Keep it a secret, okay?" Forming a goofy face as his index finger gesturing a hush.

Grabbing the offered tea, and made himself comfortable at the couch. Baffling to who must be this grey-haired man that seemed really close to Subaru to know where he hid his valuables and casually tamper with it. "It may be rude and late to ask, but who might be are you?"

"A, no. It's my fault for not introducing myself after appearing so suddenly. It's Otto Suwen, nice to meet you." Raising his hand to offer a handshake, then she obliged. Ashamed for not knowing someone's name that was apparently close to someone she cherished dearly.

The solemn tinkering sound of kettle pouring tea was then interrupted by a groan on the person they were waiting for to wake up. Disoriented eyes flickered, "Hm, Sylphy?" Wondering the reason why she was there in the room, then remembered just that awhile ago, he let her come inside the room but it was blurry after that. "Ah, also you too." Jokingly indifference said.

"Hey, what's that supposed to mean." Another start of a banter between close friends, Sylphy could only manage to snicker. The two noticing her stance, ceasing their so-called fight and joined the merrier laughter echoing the room.

Even if it were just to distract themselves a little more from reality.

◤—◢

Some time came after, all were the drunken buddies laughing away their problems, only leaving the only sober one was Sylphy. Ram came by an hour ago to carry their dinner that was supposed to be served at the dining room but Otto insisted just before this event happened to have it there instead.

Lackluster was the grey-haired man, drooling its face-painted blush. Not any better for Subaru seemingly looks like he's barely holding onto consciousness. However, Sylphy was offered too a drink, she insisted not to as still in the shift of working. Otto incoherently pleaded, of course Subaru joined too. Budging in seeing that his superiors agreed to, being the reason.

In end, she just managed about to be still sober after drinking copious amounts ironically futile attempts in avoiding that fact. Retaining the same crimson blush same as them, became proud of her own tolerance in liquor instead.

Skies that had been robbed of the sun's light, replaced by the shimmering glow of the moon. Sylphy responsibilities kicked in, and deemed to start reminding them that it's finally time to clean-up. Nudging Otto by its shoulder to try wake him up, which succeeded and stood straight up abruptly, "O, Oh yeah, right. It's time for me to go back h-home then." Almost unintelligible mumbling as he tried speaking out words, Sylphy just watched him walk to the door before banging its head onto the doorframe.

She then tried to reach out and help him stand up until, "Hah, as expected of this man. You couldn't just leave him alone and this is where it ends up, more work." Effortlessly carrying him with his arms by her shoulders, and looked back once more to Sylphy, "Leave everything in this room to me, you go handle Barusu." Then stepped off to where she assumed to be the guest rooms as revered grey-hair really can't go back at this state.

Nodded to the words of Ram, then took a glance to the man she'll be bringing along. Surprisingly light was Subaru, carrying him of alike of a 'princess carry' as she thought it was bothersome to do the same as her peach-haired superior. Finally reaching to his bedroom, struggling for a moment to open the doors as her hands occupied.

Siding by the large bed, feeling ever so lonely for the comfort that only waits for him. Sylphy gently putting him down, bring up its blanket over him for warmth. Watching him peacefully for a few seconds and turned around to get back at her own room to finally end the eventful night. But something else had happened.

Feeling her outer-skirt of the maid outfit being pinched against, unyielding her movement. "Stay … " Softly said, to how gentle sounding it was that a single breeze would hinder her from hearing. "Please?" The man covered with silked blanket begged for another sense of warmth to cover its woe. Feebly crossed sights with the woman that stood bewildered.

"I guess it's fine." Grabbing the chair situated on the worktable found just near, and sat along side him. Noticing that he left deliberately his left arm out in open, Sylphy took it upon herself to wrap around his frail hand with hers. Then to squeal on the inside, as he gripped her hand unexpectedly.

Happily, stared at his dozed face. Eventually feeling the settling liquor taking a toll, inducing a yawn as her eye-lids slowly flickered in and out trying to stay awake to enjoy the moment. As with everything, none will last forever. Subsequently joining him in his untouched tranquil, setting her head beside the soft-pillowy of the bed, as enough comfort to finally be asleep.

"How shameless." Distant voice entering her ears, buzzing pain ringed as she tried to make sense around her. "I thought I was being a good senior by covering up for you yesterday, and now I see you taking hold of him in his current … predicament." Focusing her sights as she sees a color of pink by the door then a smug-look seen on its face. Its voice none of hostility but intrigue.

Gazing back to the feeling on her hands were, still being held with a still asleep Subaru. Had her eyes once again to the satisfied look on Ram's face, had come to a realization. Quickly releasing hold of his hands then to start composing herself. Tried to straighten out her wrinkled uniform, a consequence of sleeping without her usual nightgown.

"Ah, I was just– he asked me to—" Rapidly blabbering her intentions, unintentionally fueling the other's amusement.

"You don't have to explain, I was just messing with you." Raising her hands for her signature pose, striking a nerve as Sylphy pouted back. "Though he looks much more peaceful than before." Glancing to the person she was talking about, seems to be the case. "No matter, we still need to prepare before he wakes up."

Obliging to her demands, walked to the curtains. Moving away its current placement and fixing it still reveals a bright rising sun, slowly illuminating the grand capital of Lugunica. Sought the skies clear, it's gonna be a good day. Everything will be alright if its with him, Sylphy thought.

Bonus scrapped scene:

His feet now place right outside the door, he could discern that there's someone inside the room. It's finally time. No going back at this point, sometimes he would look back if things were different since then, a circumstance that he never did open the like of a Pandora's box. Fate could be just too cruel, ungiven a break. Cursing the world for his misfortunes.

He gently opened the door.

EN: I'm really glad that you still managed to read this from top to bottom. (Or you just skipped towards the very end to see what was my end note). Either case, I appreciate both. Though got to say, this is still the first half of the TwoShot story, albeit redundant now that I'm probably going to release the next one soon since this was a revision. A Whole Span of Six Months ... Just for the second part. Well I guess I'll be seeing you once again on the next one and the other.
