CHAPTER 19: GREAT ESCAPE
"The Deku tree healing potion? Wasn't that was banned years ago?"
Zelda frantically paced around the tent with her hands behind her back. Impa stood in confusion, wondering why on earth the Queen was so worked up about a healing potion that was banned years ago.
"Yes!" Zelda replied enthusiastically.
Impa raised a suspicious eyebrow at the Queen. She was making no sense right now.
"Well, we can't get it if the potion was banned," Impa stated confusingly. "Extracting the main ingredient from the Deku Nut trees killed them-"
"I have another ingredient that is proven to work," Zelda interrupted.
Impa raised an eyebrow at the Queen again.
"You found another ingredient?" Impa asked skeptically. "Your highness, with all due respect, your expertise is not in medics-"
"I didn't find it," Zelda interrupted impatiently. "My son found it."
Both of Impa's eyebrows immediately shot to the top of her head. A million questions began to run through her mind.
"Y-Your son?" Impa asked in shock. "Like, the formal general?"
Zelda nodded quickly.
"Yes, him," she replied softly. "When he was younger, he used to study medics. He was brilliant. Would have made a wonderful doctor if he continued."
A look of sadness suddenly crossed the Queen's beautiful face. Her eyes became cloudy, like she was looking at a memory from a long time ago.
A few moments of silence passed between the two women. Impa studied the Queen's face, noticing how sorrowful she looked.
"Well, what was the replacement ingredient?" Impa asked, breaking the silence.
Zelda took a deep breath, as if she didn't want to say what it was.
"Goat milk."
A look of skepticism immediately formed onto Impa's face. That was seriously the ingredient?
"Your highness," Impa started, shaking her head in disbelief. "I really don't think-"
"It is, I swear!" Zelda immediately cut in. "I had the same reaction as you when my son told me. But I swear, it works. Possibly even better with the goat milk."
Impa raised a skeptical eyebrow. There was no possible way that goat milk replaced the rare ingredient from the Deku Nut trees.
"And your son figured this out?" Impa asked in disbelief.
Zelda nodded her head frantically.
"Yes, when he was fifteen," Zelda replied. "He used to lock himself in his room and study medics for hours. He was extremely smart."
Impa was a little shocked at this information. She had no idea that the former general of the Hyrulian army was interested in medics. When Impa met him for the first time, he didn't seem like he could even be passionate about anything at all.
"We just don't know if your son is actually right," Impa stated. "I'm not sure if the ingredient will even work, your highness."
Zelda sighed in frustration.
"We could at least try?" Zelda persuaded. "What good will it do if we sit here and do nothing while Link dies?"
Impa paused for a moment and placed a finger to her chin in thought. The Queen was right. It would do no good to just stand around and do nothing.
"You're right," Impa finally said after a few moments of silence. "It's worth a shot."
A huge smile appeared onto the Queen's face.
"That's wonderful!" Zelda exclaimed happily. "I think I remember the other ingredients of the potion. They aren't that hard to find. We could send some people out to find them."
Impa nodded in understanding.
"You must also know that the healing potion isn't going to completely remove the poison from his body," Impa warned. "If it works, it will only stunt the growth of the poison, which gives us more time to bring him back to Faron Woods when we have the opportunity."
Zelda nodded. She knew that giving him the healing potion might not even stunt the growth of the poison at all, but it was worth a shot. She was not just simply going to let him die.
Jessica sat in her bed, staring at her ceiling. It was around eight at night, and she still had not come down to the dining hall to serve dinner.
She refused to leave her room ever since she had that terrifying encounter with Jack. The only times she actually left her room was when she knew she didn't have to serve Jack and Aiden their food. She took those rare times to sneak down into the dining hall and grab some food for herself.
Although staying in her room kept her safe, she missed being able to talk with Hagen. He was probably a little worried about her, considering the fact that she didn't show up this morning to give him his breakfast.
She figured that Jack had realized that she was avoiding him. It was quite obvious, and Jack was no idiot. He was very clever, which put Jessica at a disadvantage.
Jessica got up from her bed and walked over to her mirror on the wall. She looked into the mirror and studied her face, noticing the large bruise around her left eye. It had swelled quite a bit since yesterday, causing her eye to become swollen shut. She didn't think the bruise would heal anytime soon.
Suddenly, a firm knock came outside of Jessica's door, causing her to jump in fright. She looked away from her reflection and slowly headed towards the door.
She reluctantly placed her hand on the doorknob and opened the door. The door creaked open, revealing Jack standing outside her room.
"Hello, Jessica. May I come in?"
Jessica's heart practically leaped out of her throat. She couldn't even believe that he actually came to her room.
"I-I don't think you can come in," Jessica nervously replied after a few moments of tense silence.
A sly smile appeared on Jack's face. He stared into her wide eyes, slightly amused by how panicked they looked.
"I don't think you have much of a say in that, do you?" Jack asked slyly. His smile grew wider.
Jessica was now panicking. Her heart raced at the speed of light, and her eyes were wide with fright.
"I…I…"
Jack stepped inside her room, silently closing the door behind him. Jessica took a step back, attempting to distance herself from him as much as possible.
"I've noticed you haven't come to serve Aiden and I food since our little encounter," Jack murmured, walking slowly towards Jessica. "Have you been avoiding me?"
Jessica flinched slightly at that question. Moments of tense silence passed as Jack's dark eyes burned into her skull, expecting an answer to his question. She feared that if she gave the wrong answer, there could be some consequences.
"I…I've just been tired," Jessica finally said, breaking the long silence. "I haven't been feeling well."
Jack cocked an eyebrow at that statement. He stepped closer to Jessica, causing her to slowly back up.
"Is that so?" Jack asked skeptically. His sly smile remained on his face as he continued to back Jessica into a wall.
"Y-Yes," Jessica sputtered nervously. She continued to step back until she backed into a wall behind her.
"I don't believe it." Jack took another step forward, now completely invading Jessica's personal space.
Jessica began to pant heavily, her chest rising and falling rapidly. She fully pressed her back against the wall behind her, trying to create at least a little bit of space between herself and Jack.
"You want to know where your father is, hm?" Jack murmured, gently cupping her chin to look up at him. He then placed his other hand on the wall, trapping her.
Jessica was now in full panic-mode. Her heart beat so fast that she thought she might have a heart attack. Jack was so close to her that she could feel his breath fanning over her face.
"I…" Jessica choked out. She let out a shaky breath before continuing to speak. "…I do want to know where he is. However, I won't do things that make me uncomfortable to gain that information."
Jack's eyes slightly widened at Jessica's bold words. However, he shook it off and continued to speak.
"I know how badly you want to know," Jack said slyly, closing the little space between them. "Just do as I say, and I can tell you."
Jack lifted his hand off Jessica's chin and placed it on her waist. He leaned down towards her face, now only about a centimeter apart. He was so close that his lips were practically brushing against hers.
Jessica was frozen in fear. She had absolutely no idea what to even do. She just stared up blankly at his dark eyes, too panicked to even move a muscle.
Before she even knew it, Jack leaned in even closer and pressed his lips against hers. Jessica stood there in shock, still not moving a single muscle.
Jack hungrily pressed his lips even harder against hers and wrapped his arms around her waist. He pressed his body fully onto hers, crushing her into the wall behind her.
As soon as Jack's hands began to slide down Jessica's hips and towards her bottom was when she finally processed what was happening to her. Jessica quickly pulled away from the kiss and impulsively smacked him across the face.
Jack cried out in pain and stumbled backward a bit. He held the side of his face, wincing in pain.
Jessica stood there in fear again, unsure of what to do. She was so scared that she couldn't even move.
Jack's eyes suddenly snapped up in anger, boring into her skull. Wild panic washed over her as he stared her down through his dark eyes. He looked even angrier than when she had first hit him.
"I thought I told you there would be consequences if you did something like that again," Jack snarled, his eyes darkening. He stepped towards Jessica and shoved her hard into the wall, knocking the wind out of her. He then backhanded her across the face, sending her toppling to the ground.
Jessica's shock suddenly disappeared again as soon as she hit the ground. As soon as Jack bent down to grab her, she quickly scrambled away. She ran to the other side of the room, backing near a dresser with a vase on top of it.
Jack was now very obviously angry. His jaw was clenched tightly and veins popped out of his neck.
"You bitch," he hissed angrily. Jack suddenly took off at lightning speed, lunging at Jessica across the room.
Suddenly, Jessica's fight or flight instincts kicked in. She quickly grabbed the vase on top of the dresser and smashed it against Jack's head, sending him toppling to the ground. The vase shattered at the impact, falling all over Jessica's bedroom floor.
Jessica stood in shock at what she had just done. Jack lay there unconscious, with a small amount of blood trickling down his forehead. She knew that he was unconscious, but he wouldn't be out for long. She had to get out of there.
Jessica sprinted out of her room and ran down the hallway as fast as her legs could take her. She had to get away. She had to get out of that castle. If she stayed any longer, she would be dead.
Jessica suddenly skidded to a stop as she passed Hagen's chambers. She paused for a moment before bursting into his room.
Hagen jumped from shock, dropping the book that he was reading in his chair. He squinted at her for a moment before recognizing that it was Jessica that burst into his room.
"Jessica?" Hagen asked confusingly. "A-Are you alright-"
"We have to go," Jessica suddenly interrupted. "Now."
Hagen stood up in shock. He walked a little closer to her, studying her face. He noticed how panicked and fearful she looked, and that she was completely out of breath. He also noticed the large bruise on her left eye.
"Where's that bruise from?" Hagen asked, suddenly very concerned. "Are you alright? Are you in danger?"
Jessica shook her head frantically and grabbed Hagen's arm.
"I did something very bad," she said quickly. "I could get killed for it. Please, leave the castle with me. We can escape this nightmare once in for all."
A million questions ran through Hagen's mind. He didn't understand what on earth was even going on. She wanted to escape the castle?
"Please," Jessica begged, tugging at his arm. "Please come with me. You're the only friend I have right now."
Doubts ran through Hagen's mind. If they were caught, they would both most likely be hung. They could be killed if they even attempted to leave. However, Jessica clearly needed his help. If she stayed here, she would guaranteed be killed. She needed to get out of the castle, quickly.
"Alright," Hagen breathed out after a few moments. "Alright. Let's get going."
Hagen grabbed Jessica's hand and pulled her out of his room. He led her through the hallway, clutching her hand tightly in fear. They sprinted down the hallway as fast as their legs could take them, never looking back for a second. Paintings and torches flashed by them as they ran down the narrow hallway.
Suddenly, Hagen took a sharp turn towards a flight of stairs and ran down them. This threw Jessica off a bit, but she still continued to sprint as fast as she could down the stairs.
They got off the stairs and began to sprint into a dark room. Jessica looked around, noticing empty jail cells surrounding them. Why were they in the dungeons?
"Where are we going?" Jessica yelled frantically, still continuing to sprint.
"There's a secret exit down here!" Hagen yelled back. "Just follow me!"
Suddenly, Hagen skidded to a stop and pulled Jessica behind a wall. Jessica looked at him with confusion, wondering why they were stopping.
"W-What are you doing-"
"Shhhh!" Hagen hushed, clamping a hand over Jessica's mouth.
Jessica looked around the dungeons fearfully. Was there something in there?
Suddenly, the loud clank of boots began to echo throughout the quiet prison. Voices of guards conversing spread throughout the prison, causing Jessica to panic.
The sound of their footsteps came closer, causing Hagen and Jessica to both stiffen with fear. Hagen tightened his hand around Jessica's mouth.
The guards came into view and walked right past Hagen and Jessica hidden behind the wall. There was two of them, and they were completely oblivious to Hagen and Jessica backed against the wall. It was so dark in the prison that it was difficult to see.
Hagen reluctantly took his hand off Jessica's mouth as soon as the guards were out of sight. He grabbed Jessica's arm quickly and began to pull her out of behind the wall.
"Come on. We don't have much time."
They both began to sprint again, running towards a dark, desolate hallway. The hallway was free of any jail cells. They began to sprint into the hallway with no hesitation.
It was extremely dark in the hallway, so dark that Jessica could barely see her own hand in front of her face. She just grabbed onto Hagen's hand tightly and let him lead the way.
Hagen suddenly took a sharp turn to the right and skidded to a stop. Jessica looked around frantically, wondering why they had stopped again.
"There's a small passageway right in front of us," Hagen informed her, pointing towards a small hole in the wall in front of them.
Jessica squinted in the dark, attempting to see where he was pointing. As her eyes adjusted, she finally recognized the hole in the wall.
"We have to crawl through that?" Jessica asked doubtfully.
Hagen nodded.
"Yes. The tunnel isn't too long. It takes about five minutes to get out of it. Come on, follow me."
Hagen tugged at Jessica's hand, persuading her to climb into the hole. Hagen got in first, then Jessica quickly after him.
The tunnel was completely pitch-black. She couldn't see anything at all, not even Hagen right in front of her. Her heart began to pound out of her chest.
"Don't be afraid," Hagen reassured her, as if he sensed her fear. "I know it's dark, but just crawl forward. We'll be out of here in no time."
Jessica heard Hagen begin to crawl, so she followed suit. They crawled in the complete dark, with just the sounds of their breathing to break the heavy silence. They continued to crawl for about five minutes, now completely engulfed in the darkness.
"We're almost there," Hagen informed Jessica.
As soon as he said that, Jessica saw a light in the distance. Moonlight shined through the exit, immediately calming Jessica's racing heart.
They soon neared the exit and quickly climbed out of the tunnel, landing on the soft grass below them. They both pushed themselves up into a standing position, dusting themselves off immediately.
Jessica looked around her and studied her surroundings. They were in a grass field, surrounded by trees. In the distance stood the Hyrulian castle.
"Let's go into the forest," Hagen said, beginning to jog towards the trees. "We don't want to risk getting caught."
Jessica began to jog with him. They jogged quickly towards the trees, stopping once they had entered the forest. They both sighed with relief, now realizing that they were both hidden.
Moments of silence passed between them as they both tried to catch their breath. Suddenly, Hagen began to chuckle loudly, causing Jessica to turn towards him in confusion.
"What?" Jessica asked with a look of confusion across her face.
Hagen looked up at her face and began to burst into a fit of laughter. Jessica just stared at him while he continued to laugh hysterically, with tears running down his face.
"That was the most thrilling thing I've ever experienced in my life!" Hagen exclaimed happily, still laughing hysterically.
Jessica cocked an eyebrow at him.
"And that's funny, how?"
Hagen's laughter finally began to die down, reducing to small snorts. He wiped some tears from his eyes and continued to speak.
"It's just so ironic," he began. "I haven't even known you for a month and we now just made this big escape from the castle. It's ridiculous, if you think about it."
Jessica thought about it for a moment. It was a bit odd, considering that they had only known each other for a couple of weeks.
"I guess so," she said, smiling a bit. She began to consider that Hagen could be a bit crazy, but she figured that he was a little off because of his old age and that he was in the dungeons for years.
Hagen's laughter finally died down. He brushed some dirt off his pants and looked around the forest.
"So, why did you even need to leave the castle in the first place?" Hagen asked curiously.
Jessica sighed and rubbed the side of her face.
"Jack was going to hurt me. I hit him on the head with a glass vase in self-defense. He's probably still unconscious in my room as we speak."
Hagen's mouth dropped open in shock. He was surprised how brave Jessica truly was.
"D-Did he give you that bruise on your eye?" he asked, pointing to the bruise on her left eye.
Jessica nodded in reply.
"He hit me yesterday night."
"Ah." Hagen nodded in understanding. That was why she didn't come down to give him his breakfast earlier in the day. She didn't seem like she wanted to talk much more on the topic, so Hagen didn't push it.
"So," Hagen drawled out, clapping his hands together. "Where will we be heading off to? We can't stay outside forever. Everywhere in Hyrule is practically swarming with Volagio soldiers."
Jessica scratched the back of her neck. She honestly hadn't thought much about that. She knew there was rebellion camps that were spread around Hyrule. She heard there was a large one near Kakariko village.
"There's multiple rebellion camps around Hyrule," Jessica began. "I think there's a particularly large one near Kakariko. We should head there. It's not too far from here."
Hagen nodded in agreement. They would definitely be safe there.
"Smart plan," he said. He suddenly began to pick up some sticks from the ground. Jessica furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, wondering why he was gathering sticks.
"I'm going to make a fire," Hagen informed her, noticing her confused expression. "Get some wood from the ground."
Jessica nodded and began to grab some sticks from the ground, ready to make a fire.
Zelda was in her tent, sitting at a small desk. She had been waiting for Impa.
Impa was creating the potion as Zelda waited. She had started working on the potion early in the morning. She sent out a few people from the camp to gather the ingredients for the healing potion. Luckily, the ingredients could be found in a simple forest, which made the job easier.
Zelda prayed to the gods that the healing potion would work. She wanted nothing more than to see Link well again. It was her very last hope.
Zelda's mind began to wander from the thoughts of Link and the healing potion. She wondered what was going on back at the castle. She had heard that about seventy-percent of the castle inhabitants had been wiped out by the Volagio army. She hoped that Jessica was not apart of that seventy-percent.
Suddenly, Zelda's tent flap swung up. Impa walked through the tent flap, entering Zelda's tent.
"I got it!" Impa exclaimed excitedly, waving a small bottle of blue liquid around.
Hope filled Zelda's body as she caught sight of the small bottle of potion. A huge smile formed on her face, crinkling her eyes in delight.
"That's wonderful, Impa!" Zelda said happily, shooting out of her seat.
"Come on!" Impa lifted the flap back up and stepped outside the tent, beckoning the Queen to follow.
Zelda followed Impa out of the tent and began to walk with her towards Link's medical tent. They reached the entrance to the tent and pushed the flap open, stepping inside quickly.
Link lifted his head slightly off his pillow to see who had walked in.
"Zelda?" he mumbled, squinting towards the two figures standing in the distance.
Impa and Zelda walked towards him, stopping on the side of his bed.
"Hey, it's me," Zelda murmured softly. She reached over towards Impa and gently took the potion from her hands. "We brought something for you."
Link weakly propped himself up on his elbow and faced towards Zelda. She noticed how he couldn't even keep his eyelids fully open, which was why he struggled to recognize them from far away.
"You…you…what's that in your hand?" Link weakly lifted up a finger and pointed towards the bottle of red liquid clutched in Zelda's hands. His eyes then narrowed towards Impa standing near his bed. "Impa? Is that you?"
Impa nodded softly.
"Yup, it's me," she spoke softly, the usual hard tone of her voice suddenly disappearing. "We've got another potion for you. It might help. Give it a try."
Zelda gently handed Link the small bottle. Link popped the cork off the bottle and began to drink, downing the bottle in a few seconds. He then made a face like he had just tasted something sour and shook his head.
"That stuff is gross," he mumbled jokingly, shaking his head rapidly. "Is that…is that goat milk?"
Zelda and Impa laughed.
"It is," Zelda replied, taking the empty bottle from Link's hands. "It's Jack's creation. He made it when he was fifteen."
A look of sadness suddenly flashed across Link's tired eyes. He lied back onto his bed and softly shut his eyes.
"Thank you," Link murmured softly, a small smile crossing his sad features. "I appreciate that you're trying." He sunk back into his pillow and slipped back into unconsciousness, sleeping peacefully.
Zelda felt tears begin to prick at her eyes. She studied his face, noticing how peaceful he looked sleeping. It seemed like nothing could wake him up at that moment.
Impa patted the Queen's back gently, noticing how glossy her eyes got.
"It'll be okay," she reassured, rubbing small circles into Zelda's back.
Zelda quickly wiped her tears from her eyes and turned towards Impa.
"How long will it take for the potion to work?" Zelda asked, sniffling quietly.
Impa rubbed the back of her neck in thought.
"About a day. We can check on him tomorrow morning."
Zelda nodded in understanding. A question still gnawed at the back of her mind, driving her crazy. She had wanted to ask it since she mentioned the idea of using the new healing potion.
"What if the potion doesn't work?" Zelda asked nervously.
Impa's eyes slightly widened at the Queen's question. She sighed sadly and shook her head, turning away from Zelda.
"I'm not sure. If it doesn't work, he most likely won't be here by tomorrow."
Jack stomped out of his room, furious beyond belief. Last night, he had been knocked unconscious by Jessica. She whacked him with some sort of vase, giving her an easy chance to escape. There was a large bandage on the left side of his forehead, covering the large gash that formed from the blow of the vase.
After getting knocked unconscious, he had woken up in Jessica's bedroom with blood running down his face. He scrambled out of her room and searched everywhere in the castle for her. However, he couldn't find her at all.
Jack continued to stomp down the hallway, heading towards where he knew King Aiden was. He reached the double doors to the lounge and burst through the doors, startling Aiden sitting in one of the cushiony chairs.
"Please don't come bursting in here like that," Aiden snapped, rolling his eyes. "It's obnoxious-"
"Where is she?" Jack suddenly cut in, his eyes wide with rage.
Aiden shook his head in annoyance and turned to face Jack standing in front of him.
"Where is who?" Aiden asked, sounding incredibly irritated. "I'm sorry, you're going to have to clarify a bit more, since the word she doesn't really give me much options-"
"Shut the fuck up," Jack snarled, in no mood for Aiden's sarcasm. "Jessica. The goddamn maid. Tell me where."
Aiden pressed a palm to his forehead in annoyance.
"You think I know?" he asked angrily. "I'm not the one who's pursuing that poor woman! How would I know?"
"I don't know!" Jack shouted back. "You don't know anything? Nothing?"
"Why are you even looking for her anyways?" Aiden paused for a moment and studied Jack's face, noticing the large bandage on the left side of Jack's forehead.
"Ah." A sly smirk grew on Aiden's face. "You finally got what was coming to you. Guess you shouldn't try and make a move on servants."
Jack clenched his fists in rage and gritted his teeth together.
"Does that really matter now?" he growled angrily.
Aiden's coy smile grew even wider, amused by Jack's short temper. Although most people in the castle were afraid of Jack's temper, Aiden wasn't. He found it quite amusing, and extremely entertaining. It never scared him.
"Maybe it has something to do with Hagen's disappearance," Aiden said, shrugging his shoulders a bit. "A few guards informed me that they saw him escaping, but I told them not to follow. He's pretty useless."
Jack's eyes suddenly widened in deep anger. He stepped towards Aiden, glaring down at him through his dark eyes.
"Y-You let him escape?" Jack hissed angrily. "You fucking let him escape?"
Aiden flinched a little at Jack's angry tone. Was it that big of a deal?
"Um, yes," Aiden stated nonchalantly, furrowing his eyebrows together in confusion. "Is it really that big of a deal? Calm down."
Jack now looked like he was going to implode. His face was beat-red with anger, and veins popped out of his temples visibly. His lips were pursed in a straight line, and his jaw was visibly clenched.
"Are you serious?" Jack almost screamed, his voice echoing around the large room. "You've got to be kidding!" Jack frantically paced around the lounge, pulling the ends of his hair in stress.
"Do you know what you just did?" Jack boomed, stepping closer to Aiden sitting in his chair. "You just let loose one of the people who know what's going on in this castle! Do you know what he could do with that information?"
Aiden shifted slightly in his seat, suddenly growing a little nervous. For the first time in a while, he felt truly afraid.
"He can find the rebellion camps and feed them inside information about us!" Jack yelled, now stepping very close to where Aiden was sitting. "And do you know what happens then? We become fucked!"
Aiden sunk back into his seat, trying to distance himself from Jack as much as possible.
"Jack, would you calm down-"
"Calm down?" Jack was completely hysterical. He leaned down towards Aiden, getting right in his face. "Don't you dare tell me to calm down. Ever."
Aiden was now frozen with fear. He was glued to his seat, unsure of what to do. He had never been in this intense of a situation with Jack before.
Jack backed away and shook his head rapidly, attempting to calm himself down. Moments of tense silence passed between the two men. Finally, Jack spoke up again.
"You are not fit to be a king," he said, lowering the tone of his voice. "At all."
Aiden suddenly grew very angry. How dare him insult his ruling. How dare him be so disrespectful.
"I would watch your mouth," Aiden suddenly snapped, standing from his chair. "No matter what you may think, I rule over you. You have no say-"
Aiden was suddenly cut off by Jack's hand shooting out and squeezing around his throat. Aiden immediately clawed at Jack's hands, attempting to pry it off his neck.
Aiden was suddenly lifted into the air by just Jack's one hand. His feet dangled above the ground, and his eyes bulged out of his head. He looked more fearful than he had ever been in his life.
"P-Please…" Aiden managed to choke out, gasping for air. "Let go-"
"You don't rule over me," Jack snarled. "You are a pathetic excuse of a king. You don't even deserve to live."
Jack's dug his fingers even deeper into Aiden's neck. Aiden began to thrash around wildly, doing anything to escape from the chokehold he was in. Black spots began to dot Aiden's vision, causing him to slowly lose consciousness.
After a few more seconds, Aiden's eyes rolled to the back of his head and his eyelids fluttered shut. He became limp in Jack's hand, with his head lolling to the side.
Jack finally loosened his hold on Aiden's throat and tossed him carelessly to the ground. He then crouched down and placed a finger to the side of Aiden's neck, feeling for his pulse.
Jack's waited a few moments before realized that there was no pulse on his neck. The Volagio king was dead.
Holy, this is like the earliest I've updated in a while. I'm absolutely DETERMINED to finish this story, so I'm going to update as quickly as I can. I liked writing this chapter, probably because it was a bit more interesting than the others. A lot more action and stuff I guess.
Honestly, while I've been writing this story, I can't tell if it's too long. This story is already over 300 word document pages, and I still have over ten chapters to write. Like if I made this into an actual book, the book would probably be like three inches thick. I don't know. I might end up doing a rewrite on this story in the far future, like years from now.
Anyways, I'm done talking for now. I hope everybody had a great New Years. Please review, and thank you all again for the support. See you guys soon!
