A Spoonful of Sugar

Watching the female server lay out the dishes she'd ordered for lunch in front of her Sam could feel herself drooling.

Calamari with Cous Cous made of roast tomatoes, scallions, pine nuts and parsley (her favourite) paired with a glass of red wine. And for dessert, a thin slice of decadent black velvet chocolate cake drizzled with vanilla syrup, sprinkled with chopped macadamia nuts, and topped with a single, candied cherry.

On force of habit she glanced across the table to see what Tim was having.

Pasta, Capellini Pomodoro to be exact made of Angel Hair pasta tossed with asparagus, roasted tomatoes, basil, garlic, and olive oil. He had chosen to pair it with sparkling water and a side of a small Greek salad consisted of crispy cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, sliced red onion, Kalamata olives, and crumbly goat cheese on a bed of fresh romaine lettuce.

Having seen his selection Sam couldn't help but notice a never-ending trend she had picked up on when it came to his habits eating out. It was all healthy stuff and once again ... no dessert.

And she couldn't help but be bemused. Sure Tim was a total fitness freak but they were eating out here and he could have a sweet treat if he felt like it. He didn't have to be such a stickler on his diet all the time.

That thought in mind she couldn't help but shake her head a little to herself and sigh which caught his attention immediately.

"Something wrong?" he asked looking at her curiously.

"No..." she started wondering if she should even say anything about this but to be honest it was something she often wondered about him so she decided to just ask to sate her own nagging curiosity about her fiancée. "It's just ... how come you never order dessert?"

She'd noticed, he thought and found himself smiling at that because he found it cute how his Sammie noticed every little thing about him, even things that he himself sometimes didn't realize about himself.

But to answer her question the reason he never asked for dessert when dining out was because restaurant and store-bought desserts were loaded with unhealthy things to give them extra flavour.

No it wasn't like he never had dessert, he did once in a while, but he preferred to make any sweets he felt like eating at home by himself so he could know exactly what went in there and what he was putting in his body.

"Because it's just empty calories and fat that you'll have to burn off later," he answered her while casting a scrutinizing glance at the cake she had gotten for herself.

And Sam rolled her eyes having noticed him do that. Of course it was just like him to pick on her meal in revenge for her picking on his.

"Something sweet helps complete a meal," she huffed haughtily raising her nose up at him and defending her pastry habit which she was sure he'd taken note of the same time she'd noticed his lack of it. And she didn't intend to change it. "Some sugar is important for a balanced diet."

Hearing him chuckle at her words clearly not taking her seriously, Sam looked at him sternly, scowling and raising an eyebrow and said, "You know ... I don't think that YOU get enough sugar Tim."

He stopped laughing when she said that and said nothing, just stared at her for a long moment and she wondered if he was actually considering a dessert at last when he suddenly leaned over and kissed her on the mouth.

Instantly Sam's face turned pure scarlet, rivaling the colour of the cherry on her cake and a loud squeak left her as she could feel all conversations stop and everyone's eyes zero in on her while he kept kissing her passionately, shamelessly, not giving a damn that their waitress who still stood there and the many people around them who were also here for lunch were watching them.

He pulled away some time later and left her wondering why he'd done that. Had it been to shut her up? She couldn't think of any other reason.

Scam remained quiet simply enjoying how cute her face was right now as she sat there gawking at him with her emerald eyes peeled wide and her blush still coating her entire face making her look like a human strawberry.

And he just knew she was trying to figure out why he'd kissed her. A moment later he gave her her answer.

Cocking an eyebrow at her and giving her a smirk he drawled smoothly, "Better?"

Her mouth dropped open in reaction and instantly she understood. She started fidgeting in her seat and blushing even harder when the waitress started giggling along with some of the couples who had seen their entire exchange unfold.

Sam looked down in her lap and played with her fingers as she desperately battled to try and control her flushed state and need to scream like a hyper five-year-old on a massive sugar rush from having eaten too much candy, like their entire Halloween candy loot in one sitting.

"You didn't answer me..." she heard him taunt when a full minute and a half had passed and she'd managed to say absolutely nothing and just sit there with her face alternating between every known shade of red on the hue spectrum over and over again.

Knowing she had to say something she slowly peeked up at him again and noticed how the smirk on his face had no less than tripled in size as he watched her still amused.

And when she finally met eyes with him, she caught him giving her a wink.

"J-Just sh-shut up and eat!" she finally stuttered out when she was able to summon words and he just threw his head back and laughed at her before unfolding his napkin and returning to his meal leaving her to pick up the menu and hide her face behind it so that she could continue hyperventilating in private.

The first short moment in the series? I think so. xD

Nonetheless this was fun to write! ^_^

More things to come!
