Chapter 5
Kagome was sitting on the bridge watching as Loki was locked up.
"In case it's unclear," Fury told as he hit a few buttons. The floor beneath the cage opened up. "If you try to escape, if you scratch the glass, it's a 30,000-foot drop, in a steel trap," Fury exp, aimed smugly. "You get how that works? Ant, boot," he said snidely. Kagome rolled her eyes leaning against the table.
"It is an impressive cage," Loki said happily. Kagome looked at the screen with a thoughtful look. "Not built, for me, I think," he said as he looked around. Kagome looked at Bruce to monitor his reaction.
"Built for something a lot stronger than you," Fury countered. Kagome merely giggles, at that mental image. She was not scared of the Hulk, not one little bit. Sesshomaru with little to no sleep is much scarier.
"Oh I've heard," he said sounding interested. Kagome's eyes narrowed at his sly comment. Steve noticed her look and put his hand on top of hers. She looked at him, and smiled down at him." A mindless beast makes play he's still a man or the gorgeous priestess that is meant to be so much more than you savages," he said to Fury. Steve's hand tightened when Loki brought Kagome up. "How desperate are you?" Loki asked chuckling. "To call on such creatures defend you," He smirked evilly. "Not to mention belittle, such a powerful and gorgeous being to help you?" He asked chuckling. Kagome's hand tightened on Steve's because he was about to go down there himself.
"How desperate am I? You came to my world with the world," Fury said angered. "You steal a force you can't hope to control. You talk about peace yet you kill people, for the fun of it. You have made me very desperate," Fury ranted. "You might not be glad that you did," Fury said, glaring Loki down.
"It burns you to have come so close. To have the Tesseract, and have power, unlimited power. And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share, and to be reminded of real power is," Loki said with a smug look on his face. Kagome glared at him harder from her spot she stood.
"He's toying around," she breathed out. Steve looked up to her, and back to the screen. He then began to see what she meant.
\
"Well let me know if "real power", wants a magazine or something," Fury said sarcastically, walking off.
"He grows on you, doesn't he?" Bruce asked, looking at everyone.
"Loki's going to drag this out,"
Steve said.
"Not to mention he is a way to relax, for someone in a cell," Kagome glared at the screen. "What game is he playing Thor?" Kagome asked in a nice tone.
"He has an army called the Chitauri. They are not Asgardian, or that of any other world known," Thor said to them. " He means to lead them against your people," he said gravely. "They will win him the earth," Thor told them.
"My question is who gave him the army?" Kagome asked, looking at Thor. "There is someone we cannot see pulling the strings," she said closing the screen, and getting up to pace.
"I suspect, whoever it is, he gives them the Tesseract in return," Thor said, watching the pacing female.
"An army from outer space," Steve said shocked.
"He means to build another portal. That's why he needs Eric Salvig for," the banner said aloud.
"Salvage?" Thor asked.
"Astrophysics," Bruce said to him.
"He's a friend," Thor said looking down.
"Don't worry Thor we will get him back, everyone that's been brainwashed," Kagome said sympathy and then determined. Her powers sparking around her. She hated mind control with every fiber of her being. Especially after the Tsubaki incident 500 years ago.
"I want to know why Loki took him. He's not leading an army from there," Steve said, looking around then to Kagome.
"I don't think we should focus that much on Loki. His brain is a bag full of cats," Bruce said pacing. "You could smell crazy from him," he said smiling a bit.
"Have care on how you speak," Thor said threateningly. " Loki is beyond reasoning, but he is Asgard, and he is my brother," he said looking down.
"Not to mention he's a trickster. Games are his specialty, along with directing your attention somewhere else," Kagome said.
"How do you know that?" Thor asked curiously.
"After raising your trickster, you catch onto things," Kagome said.
"He killed 80 people in two days," Natasha said in a deadpan voice.
"He's adopted," Thor said offhandedly.
"Same with my boy," Kagome giggled, Thor, smiled towards her. He feels like he's going to get along with her very well.
"I think it's about the Mechanics," bruce said in thought. "Iridium… why do they need that for?" bruce asked looking around.
"It's a stabilizing agent," Tony said walking in with Phil. "I'm just saying, pick a weekend. I will have you flown to Portland," he said to Phil. "Keep the love alive," he said walking away from an annoyed Phil. Kagome just bowed her head and groaned in annoyance. "It means the portal won't collapse on itself as it did at S.H.E.L.D," he said walking up to Thor. "No hard feelings, point break. You've got a mean swing," he said patting his shoulder. Walking more onto the bridge.
"Dad, please don't," Kagome groaned. Then her phone went off," Who Let The Dogs Out". Kagome groaned, again knowing that ring tone. "If you will excuse me," Kagome said stepping out of the room. "Kagome speaking," she said in a cold tone
"Report," Sesshomaru ordered her. She told him everything. What happened, and her theories. "Very well done," Sesshomaru acknowledged. "Be safe Imouto, be careful," he said hanging up she sighed. She turned to go back into the room.
"And a huge fan of when you lose control," Tony said to Bruce.
"Really dad?" Kagome asked annoyed.
"What?" He asked pretending to be innocent. Kagome rolled her eyes at his antics. She walked over to her seat beside Steve.
"Everything ok?" He asked her concerned.
"Yeah, just my brother wanting a report," kagome shrugged leaning on the table. Steve put his hand on top of hers. She looked down at him and gave him a soft smile. Which did not go unnoticed by Tony?
" is here only to track the cube," Fury said coming in. "I was hoping you might join him," he continued.
"I would start with that stick of his," Steve said to them. "It mane magical, but an awful lot like an H.Y.D.R.A weapon," he finished.
'Observant,' Kagome smiled with her mental checklist.
"I don't know about that, but it's powered by the cube, and I would like to know how he turned two of the sharpest men I know, into his flying monkeys," Fury said annoyed.
"Monkeys? I don't understand," Thor said confused.
"I do," Steve said happily. Everyone looked at him weirdly. "I got that reference," he said sheepishly. Kagome giggled at him and his excitement.
"Shall we play doctor?" Tony asked Bruce, glaring at the duo.
"This way," Bruce said leading Tony away.
"Play nice dad," Kagome called teasingly.
"Always sweaty," he called over his shoulder.
"Dad?" Fury asked.
"Yeah, " Kagome sighed dejectedly.
"So What did the Lord of the West want?" Fury asked her.
"A report, and to ensure I was safe," Kagome said coldly.
"Of course," he nodded.
"Who?" Steve asked, looking between the two.
"Kagome here is an agent for a different society," Fury explained. She quickly cleared her throat. "Sorry, Warrior. Her group specializes in supernatural things. They hunt the monsters that exist in your dreams" fury explained.
"Not all of them, Fury, only those that go, rogue," Kagome corrected.
"I need, Sesshomaru is the leader of the group. Kagome is his adopted little sister," Fury explained. "We have an alliance with them. We request their services from time to time." Fury shrugged.
"Now that this little chat is over. I would like to go check on my dad. He is a big fan of the Hulk, and I am a bit worried," kagome sighed.
"I second that notion," Steve said getting up. They walked out together.
Natasha watching them closely, and held a secret smile. Kagome was attracted to him, and he seemed to like her. She was one of very few to know some of the inner workings of Youkai society. Thanks to Kagome, after a youkai, he attempted to mate with her. She explained, as she called it, the Checklist they all went through to find a proper mate. She knew that she fit into that category of potential mate status, and kagome gave her a teaser that works very effectively on Youkai. She also knew the female checklist as well. Steve Rogers was checking every box so far. She guessed that the whole reason she hasn't made a move was because of her dad being here.
Kagome and Steve walked through the halls talking about this and that. Steve was slowly realizing that Kagome loved older stuff, like literature, and movies. He enjoyed her conversations and the company.
"So, your name is Kagome Stark?" He asked casually.
"Nope, Kagome Higurashi," she beamed at him. "Though I might change it because I am going to be living with my dad for a while," she shrugged. Steve perked at the news of her living in New York.
'Hope isn't lost,' he thought joyfully.
They finally came to the lab. They walked into Tony poking and zapping .
"Hey!" Steve called annoyed, and Kagome with an annoyed groan.
"Nothing?" Tony asked, disappointed.
"Are you nuts?" Steve asked upset. Tony looked to the Captain and noticed his little princess behind him. He was angry about her keeping this from him, but he remembered what Pepper said.
"Tony, your little princess isn't little anymore. She is a full-grown woman. She will always be your little girl, but you need to have a little faith in her," she had said. He understood her reasoning for not telling him. He remembered the interaction between her and the Captain. 'I may not be able to stop her from fighting, but I will not let Capsical take my little girl,' he thought,
"The jury is out," he said sarcastically." you have got a lid on it, don't you?" He asked impressed. "What's your secret, Mellow Jazz, Bongo Drums, a huge bag of Wees?" He asked smiling.
"Dad," Kagome said in a reprimanding tone.
'She sounds so much like her mother,' Tony thought.
"Is everything a joke to you?" Steve asked annoyed.
"Funny things are," he smirked.
"Threatening the safety of everyone on this ship, including your daughters?" Steve said angrily. "Isn't funny," he said trying to calm down.
"No offense Doctor," Kagome smiled to Bruce.
"None took, I wouldn't have come aboard if I couldn't handle pointy things," Bruce said glancing at Tony.
"Your tip-toeing big man. You need to strut," Tony smiled pointing to Bruce walking around the table.
"And you need to focus ," Steve said to him coldly.
"Do you think I'm not?" Tony asked curiously. "Why did Fury call us in now? Why not before? What isn't he telling us? I can't do the equations if I don't have all the variables," Tony explained.
Kagome started to see where her dad was going with this. Sesshomaru and her have been suspicious of the testing they are doing with the tesseract.
"You think Fury is hiding something?" Steve asked with a contemplating look.
"He's a spy Captain, no he's the spy. His secrets have secrets," he continued to explain.
"He's right," Kagome nodded. Her dad beamed at her in victory. "I am going to regret saying that," she sighed quietly.
"It's bugging him too, Isn't it?" Tony said pointing to Bruse.
"I just want to finish my work here and…" Bruce began to say.
"Doctor?" Kagome asked calmly.
"A warm light for all mankind'. Loki's jab at Fury about the cube," Bruce said quietly.
"I heard it," Steve said nodding.
"I think that was meant for you," Bruce said looking at Tony. "Even If Barton didn't tell Loki about the tower. It was still all over the news," Bruce said looking at Tony.
"Stark Tower? That big ugly," Steve began, but Tony glared at him harshly. "Building in New York?" Steve asked more awkwardly.
"It's powered by an Arc reactor, self-sustaining energy source," Kagome explained looking at everyone.
"The build will run itself for at least a year?" Bruce asked Tony.
"It's just the prototype," Tony explained. "I'm kinda the only name in clean energy right now," he explained.
"That's what he's getting at," Kagome said in shock.
"So, why didn't . bring him in on the Tesseract Project?" Bruce asked. "What are they doing the energy business in the first place?" He continued to ask.
"I should probably look into that after my decryption program finishes breaking into S.I. .S secure files," Tony said walking over to a screen.
"You did what?" Kagome asked surprised.
"I'm sorry, did you say…" Steve began to ask confused.
"JARVIS has been running it since I hit the bridge," He dad said looking dead serious.
"Dad," she groaned in defeat.
"In a few hours, I will know every dirty secret," Tony continued to explain.
"You are officially banned from going to my home base," Kagome said in a deadpan voice.
"Yet your confused about why you didn't want you around," Steve said coldly.
"An intelligence organization scared of intelligence?" Tony asked with a raised eyebrow. "Historically, not awesome," he said tilting his head.
"I think Loki is trying to whine us up," Steve explained. "He means to start a war," Steve explained. "And fee don't focus he will succeed. We have ordered it. We should follow them," he explained to the doctors.
"Following's not my style," Tony shrugged.
"And your all about style, aren't you?" Steve asked snidely.
"Of the people in this room, A. who is wearing a spangly outfit?" Tony asked annoyed. Kagome could feel the tension growing between them. "And B not one of use?" He finished.
"Dad back off," Kagome said stepping between the men. "Steve, in his annoying way, has a point. There is something not right here. Can't you see that?" Kagome asked glaring at her dad then looking at Steve with a pleading look.
"Just find the cube," Steve said, walking out with Kagome following him. After they walked in silence for a minute. "He is right, there is something off," Steve sighed, stopping beside her.
"I know, " she sighed. "Wanna find out what it is they are up to?" Kagome asked with a smirk. She took his hand and dragged him to the much lower floors. Steve's face lightly blushed at her taking his hand. But didn't pull away, because it felt nice.
"Now if I was a big secret, where would I hide?" Kagome asked, looking around the boxes and cases.
"Hey Kagome," Steve called as he looked through a case.
"Yes, Steve?" Kagome asked, pushing a box to the side.
"I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime, with me, after this was all over?" Steve asked nervously.
"I would love to," Kagome beamed as she opened another box.
Steve did a little deliberative, "Yes".
"Now What is this?" Kagome suddenly asked. "Phase 2?" She asked confused. Steve came over and looked at the weird gun,
"I hate it, but your dad was right," Steve sighed grabbing the gun. They marched upstairs and back to the lab.
Meanwhile…..
Tony and Bruce were sitting there talking like best friends.
"What are you doing ?" Fury asked storming into the lab.
"Was wondering the same thing about you," Tony said chillaxed reading a file.
"You're supposed to be locating the Tesseract," Fury said annoyed.
"We are the models locked," Bruce explained pointing to another screen. "And we are searching for signals now. When we get a hit. We'll have its location within half a mile," Bruce explained.
"Yeah, you'll get your cube back, no fuss, no muss," Tony said teasingly. "What is phase 2?" Tony asked curiously. Kagome and Steve marched in with angry looks on their faces.
"Phase 2 is S.H.I.E.L.D uses the cube to make weapons," Steve said putting the gun on the table.
"Sorry the computer was moving a tad bit to slow for our taste," Kagome said to Tony and Bruce.
"Rogers, my Lady, we have gathered everything related to the Tesseract," Fury said, trying to pacify the angry couple. "That doesn't mean…" he began to say.
"Bullshit," Kagome said, angry. Fury looked at her angered look and knew they were in trouble.
"Hey Nick," Tony called. They all looked to him as he turned the screen towards them. "What are you lying?" He asked glaring at him.
"I was the wrong Director," Steve said coldly. "The world hasn't changed a bit," he said coldly standing a bit in front of kagome to protect her. They noticed Thor and Natasha walk into the room.
"Did you know about this?" Bruce asked her.
"You might want to think about removing yourself from this environment Doctor?" Natasha asked him if he was a child. Kagome glared at her tone.
"I was in Calcutta. I was pretty removed," Bruce said coldly.
"Loki is manipulating you," Natasha said quickly. Kagome looked at her aura and knew she was telling the truth.
"And you've been doing what exactly?" Bruce asked sounding upset.
"You didn't come, because I batted my eyelashes," Natasha countered.
"And now I am not leaving, because you suddenly get twitchy," Bruce said snidely. "I'd like to know why is S.H.I.E.L.D is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction?" Bruce asked pointing the screen
"Because of them," Fury said, pointing to Kagome and Thor.
"Me?" Thor and Kagome both asked shocked.
"Last year Earth had a visitor from another planet," Fury began to explain. "Who had a grudge match that leveled a small town. Not to mention the Western lands, that had a demon go rogue. No one but Kagome and her group could stop it. They all have powers that none of us have seen before, and I am pretty sure Kagome is the only one with a human background. We learned that we are not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously, outgunned," he explained. Kagome was seething mad at this point, her powers crackling around her. Her father as well that they were making these weapons to destroy or control his daughter.
"My people want nothing but peace with your planet," Thor argued enraged.
"We have a peace agreement," Kagome growled.
"But your not the only ones out there are you? And the only threat, " Fury said to Thor before turning to Kagome. "Even the mighty Sesshomaru can't control all the demons," he said with a sarcastic tone.
"Watch It, Fury, That's my big brother your slandering there," Kagome said with a dark look in her eyes.
"The world is filling up with people that can't be matched, that can't be controlled," Fury explained.
"Like you controlled the cube?" Steve asked sarcastically and annoyed.
"Your work with the Tesseract is what draw Loki to it and his allies. Ie is a signal to all the realms that the earth is ready for a form of war," Thor explains din a grave tone.
"A higher form?" Steve asked concerned and confused.
"You forced our hand. We had to come up with something," Fury defended himself.
"A nuclear deterrent, because that always calm everyone right down," Tony said glaring at him hard.
"Remind me again how you made your fortune Stark?" Fury asked him sarcastically.
"I'm sure if he still made weapons Stark would be neck-deep," Steve said before he was interrupted by Tony.
"Hold on, how is this about me?" Tony asked shock and annoyed.
"I'm sorry isn't everything?" Steve asked snidely.
"I thought humans were more evolved than this," Thor said, walking towards Fury.
"I'm sorry, did we come to your planet and blow stuff up?" Fury asked snarkily.
"Are you boys that naive, S.H.I.L.D has a list of potential threats," Natasha explained.
"Is Captain America on that list? Or kagome?" Bruce asked skeptically.
"Wait he's on the list? Is he above or below an angry boss?" Tony asked snarkily
"Stark, so help me god! You make one more wisecrack, I'm going to," Steve threatened.
"Threat! Verbal threat! I feel threaten!" Tony yelled pretending to be scared.
"Dad stops it," Kagome yelled at him.
Then arguments broke out in the lab. It was like that for a bit of time.
"You speak of control, yet you court chaos," Thor told fury.
"That's his MO...isdodododododon't?" Bruce asked enraged. "I mean, what are we, a team?" He asked. "No, we're a chemical mixture for chaos? We're a time bomb," He continued backing up.
"Bruce, step away," Kagome said cautiously.
"Why should guy let off a little steam?" Tony asked putting his hand on Steve's shoulder.
"You know damn well why, back off!" Steve said angrily. Shoving Tony's hand off his shoulder.
"Steve," Kagome said concerned.
"I'm starting to want you to make me," Tony said glaring at him.
"Dad!" Kagome called reprehending.
"Yeah, a big man in a suit of armor. Take that off, what are you?" Steve asked getting into his face.
"Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, father, " he stated as if it were a fact.
"I know guys with none of that, worth ten of you," Steve said upset. "I've seen the footage. The only thing you fight for is yourself. Your not the type of guy to play the sacrifice play, to lay on the wire and let the other guy crawl over you," Steve said while kagome was torn. She was agreeing with Steve about her dad in the hero department. But she wanted to defend her father from this.
"I think I would just cut the wire," Tony said chillaxed.
"Always a way out," he said annoyed. "You may not be a threat, but you better stop being a hero," Steve warned him. "It's a surprise to me that Kagome is your daughter," he said eyes darkening.
"A hero? Like you? You're a laboratory experiment, Rogers," Tony said angrily that he brought Kagome into this argument. Not to mention Steve is now trying to protect Kagome from him, her Father. "Everything that makes you special, came out of a bottle. Kagome was born special, your not in her league," he said glaring. That touched a nerve with Steve. He knew Tony knew he romantically liked Kagome.
"Put on the suite, let's go a few rounds," Steve said threateningly.
"Dad, Steve, back off," Kagome yelled now trying to separate the two men.
"You are so petty and tiny," Thor chuckled.
"Yeah, this is a team," Bruce said sarcastically.
"Agent Romanoff, will you please escort dr. Banner to his," Fury began to order him.
" Where? You rented out my room," Bruce said upset.
" The cell was just in case," he tried to soothe him.
"In case you needed to kill me, but you can't. I know, I tried," Bruce identity. Everyone stopped and stared at him in shock.
"What happens?" Kagome asked concerned.
"I got low. I didn't see an end. So I put a bullet in my mouth, and the other guy spits it out. So I moved on, I focused on helping other people. It was good. Until you dragged me back into this freak show and put everyone here at risk. Do you want to know my secret Agen Romanoff? Do you want to know how I stay calm?" Bruce ranted, while everyone watched him closely. Steve went to stand slightly in front of Kagome.
"Dr. Banner," Kagome said cautiously. His eyes shot over to her cautious and concerned eyes. "Put down the scepter," Kagome said. Bruce then realized he had grabbed it. Then the computer beeped signaling the scan done.
"Sorry kids," Bruce said, placing the scepter down."I guess you're not going to see my party trick," he said annoyed going to the computer.
"You located the Tesseract," Thor said shocked.
"I could get there faster," Tony called.
"The Tesseract belongs to Asgard. No human is a match for it," Thor told them
"Excuse me?" Kagome asked annoyed. "I can handle it just fine and sparkly. I held it before and I was just fine. Not to mention, I fought and won a war at age 15, 500 years ago. Purified the Shikon Jewel. Not to mention fighting and winning countless wars," Kagome said, marching up to God of Thunder.
"You're not going alone," Steve said, grabbing his shoulder. Tony shoved it off of him.
"You're gonna stop me?" Tony asked, widening his arms in a, Come at me, boy gesture.
"Put on the suite, and let's find out," Steve said angrily. Kagome turned towards the two males' budding heads.
"I am not afraid to hit an old man," Tony said, getting into his face.
"If he's old, I am ancient," Kagome called annoyed.
"Put on the suite," Steve said getting nose to nose not hearing a thing Kagome just said.
"Oh my god," Bruce said in fear. Then there was a large explosion sending everyone flying. Steve threw his body on top of Kagome's figure, to attempt to protect her.
"Dad," Kagome said looking at the ruined lab.
"Put on the suite," Steve and Kagome said together in shock.
"Yeah," he agreed as they got up and ran to the damaged area.
