Chapter 6
"Kagome you ok?" Tony asked, concerned-looking her over.
"Yes, Dad, I have been through worse," she said, pushing his hands away.
"Copy that," Tony said into his earpiece. He shared a look with the duo before they silently agreed. They began running to where his suite was being held.
"Engine three, I'll meet you there," he told them entering a large empty room. Kagome nodded in agreement, before continuing to run with Steve to engine 3. They made it to the opening in record time.
"Holy crap," she yelled at the gaping hole.
"Stark, we're here," Steve yelled into his com.
"Good, let's see what we've got," Toy said, flying to a part of the ruined piece of machinery. "I got this superconducting coolant system," Kagome heard her dad say in thought. "Before I can access the rotors, work on dislodging the debris, " he continued. "I need you two to the engine control panel, and tell me which relays are in overdrive position," Tony told them. Kagome nodded, she understood every word he just said about the engine's issues. She jumped up to a hanging bar, like a trained gymnast, she flipped onto the landing with ease. Steve was in shock a bit at her jump, and in awe. He was also unable to not check her out a bit.
"Captain, stop staring at my daughter and get to that panel," Tony said annoyed. Steve groaned in annoyance and followed Kagome onto the landing. Kagome moved to open the panel and pulled out the relay panel.
"What does it look like in there?" Tony asked them through the comlink.
"It seems to run on some kind of electricity," Steve said, sounding confused.
"Well you're not wrong," Kagome giggled. "Don't worry Dad, I got this. You taught me how to fix Relays when I was 6," she said, beginning to fix the Relays.
"That's my girl," Tony said with pride in his voice.
"Watch my back?" Kagome asked Steve as she kneeled before the panel.
"Always," he breathed, staring deeply into her eyes. She smiled and went back to work.
After a while, Kagome fixed the Relays.
"Ok the Relays are intact," Steve told Tony as Kagome pushed the panel back into place.
"What's next dad?" Kagome asked curiously.
"Even if I clear the rotors, this thing won't engage without a jump. I'm going to have to get in there and push," Tony told them.
"If That thing gets up to speed, you'll get shredded," Steve told him, looking at Kagome in concern. She shared the same concerned look with him.
"That star control unit can reverse the polarity," Tony began to explain.
"Speak English," Steve said, annoyed and confused.
"See that red lever?" Tony asked in a sarcastic baby tone. "It will slow the rotors down long enough for me to get out," he told them. Kagome pointed to the aforementioned lever, and Steve followed her finger. "Stand by it and wait for my signal," he instructed them. Steve and Kagome went over to the lever and waited. A few minutes later some men came out in S.H.I.E.L.D. uniforms. Kagome felt their auras being hostile.
"Steve," Kagome called, tackling him to the ground. The men then began firing at them. Kagome lept in the air and knocked away a grenadine that was meant for her father. She then landed on the landing bellow and took out two of the men easily. She heard Steve having trouble, and went up to the landing to help him. Steve had just thrown some man off the ledge when she reached them. He sent her a triumphant smile, that Kagome returned. Though the moment didn't last long, as a hail of bullets came at the,m. Kagome was dodging the bullets that were fired her way. Taking out the men as quickly as possible could. Steve got a hold of a gun and fired back at the hostile men.
"Captain, Kags, pull the lever," they heard Tony call over their Com links.
"Give us a minute here," Steve called, firing at some more hostiles.
"Lever, Now," her dad called desperately. Kagome looked to the lever, and the hostiles firing bullets at them. Her face took on a hard determined look, decision made. She took a deep breath, bracing herself, and ran for the lever.
"Kagome! No!" Steve called out to her in horror.
"Oh no, " Tony suddenly said over the comlinks. "Help," he called in pain. Kagome grabbed the lever and yanked it down, at the same time a bullet hit her side.
Tony heard Kagome scream in pain as he was free from the propeller. He launched as fast as he could make his suite go towards his daughter's location.
Steve rushed to Kagome and caught her as she fell from the bullet wound. He shielded her from the remaining gunmen while firing his gun at them. Tony showed up and took out the other hostiles, by crash landing. Steve sighed and turned his attention to Kagome. She was grabbing her side in pain where the bullet wound.
"Steve, pull it out," Kagome cried in pain.
"No hold on, " Steve said worriedly. "We need a medic at engine 3! Now!" Steve yelled into the com.
"Steve, I can't heal it till it's pulled out. So pull the damn bullet out of my side," she hissed at him. Steve stares down at her in shock, before nodding in panic. He removed her hands from The. Wound. He could see the bullet, sighing it had not gone in so deep. He reached in and pulled it out as carefully as possible. As he did so, the wound flowed a light pink, before it faded into a scar.
"Thank you," Kagome breathed before passing out in his arms.
"Kagome," he cried, hugging her to him, as the medic team arrived.
"Kagome?" She heard someone call her name through the darkness. "Kagome," the voice called again. She slowly opened her eyes to Natasha staring at her concerned.
"Ugh, What happened? Where am I?" Kagome asked grocery.
"You were shot by Loki's men," Natasha explained. "You're in the infirmary," Natasha told her. Kagome nodded remembering everything that had happened.
"Did he?" Kagome asked coldly.
"Loki got away," Natasha confirmed solemnly.
"Damn It," Kagome cursed, punching the bed, then got up.
"Kagome, " Natasha said, vulnerable. Kagome looked at Natasha worried. "I need your help. Barton," she merely said. Kagome nodded, getting the message, and followed her to another room. Inside Hawkeye was strapped in a chair.
"Is he awake?" Kagome asked her as they approached the male, but then Clint stared her in the eyes. "Never mind," Kagome sighed. She walked over to him with determination and a purpose.
"What are you going to do, little girl?" Clint asked snarkily. Kagome didn't answer, she merely grabbed his head between her hands. Her Miko began to flow into him. She was fighting a strong influence inside his head, but she just needed to grab a little bit of his true self.
Meanwhile, Natasha watched as Clint thrashed in pain and screamed out.
"Clint," Natasha called in concern. That seemed to awaken a bit of the true Clint. Kagome quickly grabbed it and yanked it free from the spell. There was a bright pink and blue light blinding the assassin. Afterward, Kagome was breathing slightly heavy as was Clint.
"Kagome?" Natasha asked, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm good, " Kagome sighed in exhaustion. She looked to a shocked Clint, who was staring at them. "I will leave you two to talk," Kagome said leaving the room. She began to leisurely walk through the halls. She was sorting a few things like this mission, her dad, and lastly Steve. She knew she needed to explain mating processes for Youkai. She was after all part of that realm more than the humans for the past 500ish years. Not to mention explain everything to her Dad, and introduce him to everyone.
"Kagome," she heard someone yell out in relief. She turned around to see Steve running towards her.
"Steve?" Kagome asked, her head tilted in confusion.
"I went to your room and you weren't there," Steve said, going up and giving her a crushing hug. "I thought you were kidnapped, or something worse," he said on top of her hair.
"Oh, Steve," Kagome sighed, moving her arms to hug him back. "I'm ok," she said into his chest nuzzling a bit.
"Loki said that he was going to take you as his bride," Steve said in a stressed tone.
"Not going to happen, I've already decided on my intended," Kagome said.
"What do you mean?" Steve asked, confused pulling away a bit. He deeply regretted it though and wanted her in his arms again.
Kagome merely sighed, "Come on, I'll explain." She pulled him into another room.
Kagome then began to explain her adventures through the Well, her being trapped there, her aging slowly, and the Youkai mating checklist, and process.
"So you're 518 years old. Your older brother is an Inuyokai, and Lord of the Western Lands in Japan. That has been changed to a haven for all forms of Youkai. That you are a princess of, and top hunter, should a Youkai go rogue. As well, he adopted a young Fox Yokai, Shippo, and raised him as your own. On top of all of this. Since I asked you out, I am now your intended?" Steve asked, shocked.
"Yeah, now I understand that you," Kagome began to say, a bit insecure. Steve stopped her with a bone-crushing hug.
"I don't care, if anything it makes me happy that you're like this. You're the only one to understand my references, you're so strong, beautiful, smart, funny, and I was so scared that I will outlive everyone," he said into her hair. Kagome sighed and returned the hug nuzzling him below his chin.
"I am so happy, you didn't reject me for this. I also know that fear and dread of outliving everyone you know and care about. Don't worry you're never alone," she smiled in his arms. They started like that for a few more moments.
"We need to go," Kagome sighed.
"I know," Steve sighed. "Do you know about Agent Coulson?" He asked sadly. Kagome's eyes dimmed a bit and nodded against his chest. She overheard some agents talking about Phil's death.
"Where's my Dad?" Kagome asked desperately. Steve nodded, taking her hand and leading her to where Tony was grieving the man's death.
"Dad," Kagome called when she saw him. Tony whipped around at the sound of his daughter's voice. There he saw Kagome running towards him. He quickly ran to Kagome, meeting her halfway, and gave her the biggest hug ever. When he heard her scream he feared for the worst.
"Oh thank god, Kags. Are you alright?" Tony asked, pulling away to look her over.
"Yes dad I'm fine," Kagome said, pushing him a little away. "Dad, I'm sorry about Phil," she said sadly, tears brimming in her eyes.
Tony looked down depressed, not being able to show the sadness in his eyes. Kagome then pulled him into another bone-crushing hug again.
"Was he married?" Steve asked watching the father and daughter moment.
"No, I think there was a cellist," Tony said in thought turning to Steve. He then released his daughter, and she wiped a tear from her eye.
"I'm sorry," Steve said sincerely."He seemed like a good man," Steve said remembering his interaction with Phil.
"He was an idiot," he said, walking towards Steve. Kagome stepped forward to stop him from picking a fight.
"Why? For believing?" Kagome asked, walking up beside her dad as he approached Steve. She stopped once they reached Steve, but Tony kept walking.
"For taking on Loki alone," Tony said, emotional.
"He was doing his job," Steve explained.
"He was out of his league. He should have waited," Tony said upset.
"Sometimes there isn't a way out," Kagome said sadly looking down. She was remembering all the times she had to fight to save others or themselves. Not being able to Walt for help, a split-second decision.
"Right, I've heard that before," Tony said, still upset. His eyes zoning in on his solemn and hallowed look.
"Is this the first time you've lost a soldier?" Steve asked sympathy in his tone.
"We are not Soldiers," Tony snapped at him. His attention being pulled away from his daughter.
"I'm not marching to Fury's fight," Tony said determinedly. Kagome's head snapped up at his declaration.
"Neither am I," Steve said with a hard tone.
"Nor am I, he's got the same blood on his hands as Loki's. But right now we need to put that behind us," Kagome said looking between them. "And get this done," Kagome explained. They both nodded in agreement with her statement.
"Loki needs a power source," Steve said, trying to think of where the cube and mischievous god could be.
"He made it personal," Tony said suddenly, looking down the hole.
"That's not the point," Steve said, a bit annoyed.
"No He's right," Kagome said in shock.
"That's the point, that's Loki's point," Tony explained. "He hit us all right where we live. Why?" Tony asked in thought.
"To divide us?" Steve asked curiously. He went over and held Kagome's hand securely.
"Yes, divide and conquer is great, but he knows he has to take us out to win, right?" Tony asked, eyeing the hand.
"That's what he wants," Kagome said in the same thought process as her father. "He wants to beat us, and he wants to be seen doing it," Kagome said, locking eyes with her dad. He beamed happily that she was on the same thought pattern as him.
"He wants an audience," they said together.
"Yeah, I caught his act in Stuttgart," Steve said now catching up with the father and daughter duo. He had to admit, they were both equally intelligent and amazing.
"Yeah, that was just previews," Tony explained walking between the duo breaking the hand holding. Steve and Kagome scowled at him and resumed holding hands when he passed them. "This is opening night," Tony said in thought and got excited.
"Loki is a full-blown Diva, right?" Kagome spoke equally as excited. Steve smiled down at her fondly and affection shining in his eyes.
"He wants flowers," Tony listed, spotting the smile on Steve's face.
"He wants parades," Kagome listed on her fingers.
"He wants a monument built to the skies with his name plastered…." he cut himself off. Kagome's eyes widened at the same time. "Son of a bitch," Tony cursed.
