Just For You

"Ugh! This going to take like a year to wash off!" Sam complained as she ran her fingers through the purple slime covering her scalp after the villain they'd be sent to stop by WOOHP had literally exploded on them, ending their mission but leaving behind a huge mess in the aftermath that they had all been caught in.

"You know, I don't even know how you manage with all that hair," Clover muttered as she rubbed her hands down the front of her uniform to wipe the slime that had landed there off, annoying to have to do but still a task much easier than removing it from hair as Sam was battling with right doing now.

Silently watching the redhead struggle Clover couldn't help but recall how many times her long hair got in the way. It was often being grabbed by criminals during fights to slow down her attacks, being singed by the fire blasting out of their Jetpack Backpacks when they used them nearly every day, or being caught in goop on more gruelling missions just like right now.

"If I were you, I'd have chopped it off ages ago."

"And go bald?" Alex shrieked leaving the blonde to roll her eyes and shake her head at how she'd interpreted her statement. "Noooo, she could get a cute little bob like us!"

Placing her finger on her chin Alex paused for a moment as she tired to picture Sam with hair as short as theirs but instantly failed. "I can't even imagine her with short hair. It's been long since she was a kid!"

At that Clover nodded. "Yea, you'd thinkkkkk she'd come out of Gabby's womb with silky, mermaid locks," she teased nudging Sam in the shoulder and making her laugh for a long moment at the history of her hair that they both knew full well. She'd started to grow it when she was around four years old and had never since gotten it cut. A trim here and there to keep it neat but she'd never made it shorter.

Smiling almost affectionately she glanced at her hair which went down past her waist, a length achieved by years of careful maintenance and hard work. But her smile couldn't help but falter at the thought of going home and instead of relaxing like her two besties would after a quick shower, instead having to take a full on bath to try and dissolve the gloop then spend more time after that scrubbing off the remnants left behind and then possibly having to shower again and then finally dry her mane before she got anywhere near her bed tonight.

"Maybe I will get a haircut..." She said suddenly. "It would make life easier to be honest."

A long exhausted sigh left her as she mentally went over her lengthy hair care routine in her head; a daily task. "It takes me so long to dry it and then style it. It's a lot of work, especially to have to do it every single day."

"Well if you're serious about it, you should totally go to my hairdresser!" Clover suggested excitedly as she shuffled around in her pocket and soon held up a card from a hair salon, something both Sam and Alex exchanged amused glances at because of course Clover would have that information on hand in case of a hair emergency.

"She does magic and she would loveeeee to work with hair like yours!"

"I don't know," Alex interrupted as Clover held out the card towards Sam. "Sammie with short hair?" She shrugged still unable to process that thought. "I'd have to see it to believe it."

"Well you'll see it when you believe it then," Sam smirked slightly as she took the card from Clover and pointed at herself, voice determined. "Because the next time we see each other ... I will have gotten that haircut."

"Sorry miss but she's occupied at the moment. She should still be able to get back to you within the hour though."

"I just need to make an appointment for a hair cut," Sam explained and the woman on the other end paused for a moment and Sam could hear her humming under her breath as she seemed to be checking a list. When she was done she spoke up again. "Hmm, you seem to be in luck! We are jam-packed but should be able to squeeze you in by the end of the day."

A breath of relief left Sam's lips.

"But to speed things along please wash and dry your hair. Be sure not to style it though!"

"Got it, thank you so much!" Sam responded before hanging up and going into her bathroom to shower.

Picking up her bathrobe and towel she slightly smirked to herself and started speaking to her hair as if it could hear her.

"Last time I have to handle all of you. I really can't say that I'll miss it."

With a soft giggle she went inside and proceeded to get started.

"Sammie, you here?" Tim called out as he made himself comfortable on her bed, his eyes glancing round her room for her as her mother had told him that she was inside.

"I'll be right out!" He heard her reply a moment later from the other side of the bathroom door.

Tapping his foot on the floor impatiently he soon started reading a book from the bookshelf behind her bed to pass the time and was getting quite into the heavy volume on Quantum Physics when the door finally opened and Sam walked inside.

Instantly his attention slid from the text and fell onto his beautiful and beloved fiancée.

"What?" Sam asked as he stared while she stood there in her robe, barefoot with her hair wrapped up high in her cotton towel.

"Nothing," he said a moment later seemingly returning his eyes to the book he held but Sam could still feel his stare sneakily boring into her from time to time and not the words on the page.

Ignoring him for a moment she turned her back towards him, removing the towel that held back her hair and slowly whipping her head freeing it. It cascaded like a waterfall and she felt Tim's stare intensify just as it settled down her back.

"What?!" She asked again turning her head over her shoulder to catch him once again staring at her.

"Nothing," he said again but sighed when Sam raised an eyebrow and gave him an "out with it already" look.

"Just admiring you," he finally admitted making her blush.

"Like what you see, huh?" She quipped with a small grin before walking over to her vanity, sitting down on the stool and picking up her hairbrush. "Well while I finish up, why don't you tell me your favourite features of mine."

Tim scoffed behind her. "You know you're gorgeous baby, do you really need me to highlight why?"

A small tsk left Sam's lips as she shook her head to herself at his words. For such a smart guy, Tim could sure be clueless sometimes.

"I'll have you know that every girl likes to hear things like this from her man, Tim. It makes her feel loved," Sam informed him as she shot him a side-look glance before looking into her mirror as she started to brush her hair starting at the ends. "So romance me already!" She demanded when he just sat there in silence.

"Fine," he finally relented getting off the bed and walking towards her, stopping when he was just standing behind where she sat brushing her hair.

He pondered her form in quiet for a minute before starting. "Well your figure for one is..." He trailed off letting out a low wolf whistle that turned her red from head to toe.

"I mean specific features you pervert!" Sam squeaked, reaching behind her and poking him with the end of her brush a few times to punish him for making her blush so badly.

"Alright, alright," he surrendered to her attack as he tried again. "Well I like your lips ... for obvious reasons."

He chuckled at earning himself another jab in the side from her at that before he continued. "Your emerald eyes, the most beautiful I have ever seen."

Sam smiled at that but couldn't help but disagree with him because to her, his were so much more breathtaking.

"I've always found your nose to be adorable. It's so cute and button-like." For some reason Sam giggled at that. Seriously? He liked her nose? Her nose?!

"But the thing I love most of all?" He reached down and started stroking her hair lovingly as he smiled to himself. "This."

"...You like my hair?" Sam asked turning around fully in her chair to look at him, surprised when he nodded yes.

"I do. It's your most distinct feature. Heck, even when I was a villain I kinda had a liking for it," he confessed remembering guiltily, despite his laser focus being distracted so many times in the past by it as they fought and it flowed around her making her look like some goddess. And he'd wonder how one so classically feminine could be so terrifyingly fierce in battle.

"Especially when it's loose like this," he went on still playing with her long locks, twisting it between his fingertips and massaging her scalp while Sam bit her lip enjoying the feeling of him doing that to her. Come to think of it, he did do it a lot.

"In fact ... I got a little gift for you to show you my appreciation of it." Tim said suddenly reaching into the pocket of his leather jacket and retrieving a small, wrapped box that he presented to her.

Staring at it for a second, Sam's gaze flicked up to his and she asked amused. "Do do always have to bring me something, every single time we see one other?"

He honestly made her think of a male bird that was courting like a Banded Kingfisher who would bring gifts such a small shiny trinkets, or food to a female. These nuptial gifts would work to strengthen their bond by wooing the female and proving the male's ability to provide for their future offspring. Similarly, Tim spoiled her so much that she literally running out of places in her home to store his daily offerings.

"Is this reallyyyy coming from the girl who just demanded that I romance her?" Scam said, unphased and smirking at her pointedly.

Sam blushed at his smartass reply, choosing not to comment back and instead taking the box from his waiting hand. She started shaking it and whatever was inside made soft patting sounds as it hit the inside of the cardboard box it was concealed in.

"What is this?" She asked only for him to tell her to open it and find out for herself.

Quickly pulling apart the wrapping paper she discovered what appeared to be a jewelry box and when she opened the lid she found before her a comb. And not just any comb but a vintage, decorative, seashell comb that was adorned with countless delicate pure, white pearls.

"Oh my God ... Tim, this is absolutely stunning," She breathed out, her jaw on the floor at his gift's endless beauty.

"I thought you'd like it," Tim smiled as he watched her trace her fingers over it in clear awe. "I was driving past an antique shop the other day and saw it in the store window. I had to go in and buy it right away because it immediately made me think of you with its mermaid theme."

Taking the comb out of the box he gently placed it in her hair and smiled wider. "After all your hair could rival any mermaid's, love."

Blushing softly at his words Sam let out a small sound of content and bit her lip. "You're so sweet. Thank you Tim," She whispered as she rose to her feet and wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly to her. "I love it."

"Oh you do, do you?" She heard him say and she nodded into his chest breathing in his scent and smiling. "Mmhmm."

"Well then..." He shifted in her arms a bit and leaned down pressing his forehead into hers and looking her deeply in her eyes. "How about you thank me by telling me your favorite features of mine?" He suggested to her.

"Where do I even start?" Sam thought to herself knowing she had quite the long list. His protective arms that she lost herself in the embrace of, for one. That strong chest that she loved to lean her head against and listen to his heart that beat just for her. And those sea foam eyes, those eyes straight from heaven that enraptured her very soul just to name a few but -

She could see the open and arrogant smirk spread across his lips as he waited to hear her reply and so she decided not to opting to rather pull his leg for some fun.

Sighing dramatically she shook her head. "Sorry, no can do."

"Why not?" He asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion.

"See..." Sam started slowly. "My ego is in check so all your compliments while incredibly sweet, didn't really stroke it. But we know that your ego is kinda..." She bit her lip as if searching hard for the right word before continuing. "Over-inflated," she stated, smirking when he frowned.

"I"m afraid that if I give it any more reason to grow then your head's gonna get so big we won't be able to get you through doors anymore."

Watching his eyes widen and his jaw drop in outrage as he gasped, she added playfully. "I just don't wanna end up living in roofless house after marriage Tim."

The second those words left her lips she was left laughing in alarm as he grabbed her with her wrists and tossed her to her bed before straddling her and starting to tickle her all over to punish her.

His tickles soon turned into caresses and then when he felt he'd gotten back at her enough and she was out of breath from giggling he just lay there against her and chuckled with her at the silly moment they'd just shared between them.

Then he started to kiss her neck, then face, then finally her lips while his hands went back into her hair and he began playing with it once more.

Sam moaned in bliss and was about to close her eyes when something caught her peripheral vision.

A small glossy card tucked between the folds of her blankets. It was the card from the hair salon that Clover had given her.

Her eyes lingered on it for a long moment before she made up her mind and reached out stealthily flicking it with her index finger and letting it fall off the bed as she wrapped her arms around Tim's neck and passionately kissed him back.

The next day...

"Hah! You didn't get your hair cut! I knew you'd chicken out!" Alex called out the second she saw her show up with her hair not smaller by even an inch. Clover owed her fifty bucks.

"No it's not that," Sam mumbled, defending herself. "I just changed my mind, that's all."

"Why?" Clover inquired as she opened her purse and sourly handed Alex a fresh fifty dollar bill that she'd won in their bet while the black-haired girl wondered what she'd spend it on. "You were ranting and raving about how hard it was to deal with. What made you decide to keep it exactly the way it was?"

Sam said nothing and just looked down at her toes. But with one look at the deep, red strawberry colour that stained her cheeks both Clover and Alex instantly knew what it was because there was only one thing, or person rather, that made her blush like that.

"It's Tim, isn't it?" Alex said eyeing Sam in a knowing way as the redhead blushed with pure guilt radiating out of her, something Alex found cute but Clover huffed at.

"Please don't tell me, he's one of those lame-o guys that feel like they have any control over what their girl does with her body," She muttered disapprovingly having had fought with Blaine once for this exact reason for critiquing a dress she'd chosen for a night out on the town with him, something he'd never dared do again after she'd gotten through with him.

"No, no it's not that!" Sam assured her, flying to her lover's defense. "Tim didn't even know I was thinking of getting it cut. He just happened to mention that he liked my hair the way it was and I decided not to cut it."

"Just because Tim likes it long?" Both Clover and Alex said in a singsong, badgering voice together as they gave Sam a hard stare.

"Just because," she shrugged smiling second later in response.

"Girl, you're totally hopeless," Clover decreed making Alex laugh while Sam blushed again but didn't bother to deny that because she knew she'd get no where if she did.

But then again, she thought as she admired her new comb in the reflection of a glass window nearby and she thought of everything Tim had said to her while giving it to her yesterday, any girl would be hopeless over a man like him.

And if her Tim liked her hair this way, then that was how she liked it too. She'd happily go through the arduous process of maintaining it for him.

She smiled to herself bashfully when the wind changed direction and starting blowing through her hair and messing it up as it usually would on windy days like this.

Just for him.

I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with the short story by called The Gift of the Magi but this moment was loosely inspired by it. I read that story when I was in grade 5 and fell in love with it so I thought a little nod to it might be fun to write. ^-^

I hope you guys liked this as much as I did writing it!

Love always,

Lark :)
