After leaving the Moulin Rouge, dignity still in tact, Pepé asked Penelope a rather important question…
"Penné," he cleared his throat. "Would you—-uh…"
"Yes?" Penny asked. "Something you wanna tell me? You can tell me."
"Would you like to, ahem, go on...eh date wiz moi?"
"Sure."
A date with a skunk was exceptionally strange for Penelope. Sure, he could easily clear a room and stop traffic (the STENCH alone! BLECH!), but however, Despite the terrible odor, the skunk was…actually rather nice to be around?
"Ah, mon joie de vivre, you smell like ze sweetest of macaróns…" Pepé sighed while he and Penny dined in the back of an alley.
"Thanks, Pepé." Penny replied. "That's probably the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me."
"As anyone else ever been like zis to you, mon melon-baby-collie?" Pepé asked. "Your owner, per'aps?"
"My owner was just using me as a fashion statement if anything." Penny replied. "She was supposed to go home to New Orleans with me, but now I'm here. I wanted to be with her, but now, here, I'm free. I'm free to make my own choices and everything."
("I just wanna be your everything" by Andy Gibb plays)
"Well zen," Pepé replied, gently taking Penelope's face in his hands. "I know you'll make ze right ones…"
Pepé and Penelope kissed, then Pepé let go. Penelope felt…a strange feeling come over her like a tidal wave. And she liked it.
"For so long
You and me been findin' each other for so long
And the feelin' that I feel for you is more than strong, girl
Take it from me
If you give a little more than you're askin' for
Your love will turn the key"
Pepé and Penny strolled down the empty streets of the Arc' D' Triomphe, scaring a sleeping mime half to death with their skunk appearance and causing him to run into the Seine river. They laughedand continued their walk.
"Darlin' mine
I would wait forever for those lips of wine
Build my world around you, darlin'
This love will shine, girl
Watch it and see
If you give a little more than you're askin' for
Your love will turn the key"
"I, I, I... I just want to be your everything
Open up the heaven in your heart and let me be
The things you are to me
And not some puppet on a string
Oh hey I, if I stay here without you, darlin', I would die
I want you layin' in the love I have to bring
I'd do anything to be your everything"
Pepé and Penny walked through the Louvre next, taking in the gorgeousness of the hung paintings. After that, they sat outside for a moment, their faces nuzzled together.
"Take it from me
If you give a little more than you're askin' for
Your love will turn the key
I, I, I... I just want to be your everything
Open up the heaven in your heart and let me be
The things you are to me
And not some puppet on a string"
Finally, the skunk and cat laid down together atop some buildings as some fireworks went off in the distance. There, they both shared another passionate kiss.
"Oh, oh, I, if I stay here without you, darling, I would die
I want you layin' in the love I have to bring
I'd do anything to be your everything
(Ah, everything)
Ah-hah, I, I, I... I just want to be your ev'rything (be your everything)
Open up the heaven in your heart and let me be
The things you are to me
And not some puppet on a string
Ah, I, if I stay here without you, darlin', I would die
I want you layin' in the love I have to bring
I'd do anything to be your everything"
——————-
It was the most wonderful date Penelope had ever been on. That night, she and Pepé slept near the Eiffel Tower once more, but Penny went out to get some water. Eventually, and unfortunately, she just so happened to encounter Marcel.
"You.." she sneered.
"Zis is where your Tour de France is FINI!" Marcel exclaimed, hissing and lunging at Penny. "Ohhhh, what I yam going to do to you..."
"What are you going to do?!" Penny asked, incredibly frightened.
"Ah have loved so many chattes, and zey all run from moi." Marcel spoke. "You, wheel be ze pié de resistancé of moi pleasure harem…"
"Wait…HAREM?!" Penny exclaimed, her tail becoming puffy. "This whole time, you only loved me and wanted me for SEX?!"
"Not just you, Madame, but MEELIONS of ozer cats as well…" Marcel replied. "What can I zay? One bride, ees not as good as TWENTY!!"
At that moment, a massive cage came down on top of Penny, and Marcel's pigeons gripped it tightly.
"MARCEL! MARCEEELLLLL WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Penny stammered as the pigeons began to carry her off.
Marcel watched as Penny was then carried away into the night sky. Meanwhile, Pepé showed up, searching for his beloved.
"Oh, Pen-knee, where are y—" Pepé stopped, running into Marcel.
"Face eet, looney tune, she ees wiz moi now." Marcel replied, laughing. "She zaid so herzelf. Whoever thought a ztupid, deesgoostink skonque like yourzelf could ewer find romance, especially een Paree? Au revoir, lover boy…" Marcel sarcastically spat out those last words.
Pepé was hurt. Not physically, but it felt as though his heart had been stabbed.
