Vows

As she approached the hospital bed Sam's eyes sadly trailed over her husband's body as he lay there with white bandages wrapped around his arms, chest, and waist which covered up his injuries.

"Does it hurt too bad?" she asked as she walked closer to get a better look at the damage done to him.

Opening his eyes to look at her, Tim greeted his wife with a half-smirk. "No," he insisted leaving her to sigh because she knew he was just putting on a brave face for her.

"Tim," she started frowning as she slightly rubbed her temples to relieve some of the stress she felt. "You don't have to be so macho all the time. You can admit that you're in pain; it doesn't make you weak."

She'd spoken to the doctor already and she could see how much battery he'd suffered all because of what he'd done. All because of a split second decision. All because he had to push her out of the way and take the brunt of the explosion while he shielded her with his body. All because he just had to protect her like always.

But he just scoffed pretending she was making a big deal out of nothing. "Pfft, this is nothing," he dismissed with a wave of his hand, suppressing the need to wince when he did that. "I consider myself lucky. I could be in a lot worse pain right now."

As much as she tried not to, Sam could not help but roll her eyes at his words. Sure, he had a high pain tolerance but that didn't mean he was incapable of feeling it anymore. He wasn't a robot. But then again she knew him and she knew he liked to act that he was made of stone so nothing could ever hurt him.

He could be beaten and broken but still he would say that he was just fine because he was that much of a tough guy and had his precious reputation and pride to uphold.

"How?" She decided to humor him. " How could you possibly be in more pain that you are right now Tim? Tell me," She demanded with her hands on her hips as she gave him a hard stare. "You could have gotten stabbed? Or shot? Or maybe lost a body part?" She listed off sarcastically. At what point would he realize that he was only human and not as invincible as he projected?

But he just shook his head in response to all of the possible injury scenarios she had stated.

Tired, Sam sighed with a loud huff before almost screeching, "Then what did you mean by you could be in more pain right no-"

"You could have gotten hurt," he cut her off, smiling at her like Prince Charming himself.

"..."

She had to bite her cheek hard to not react but even then she found her lips bursting into a small grin.

Looking down at her toes she now felt bad for yelling at him but she still knew this wasn't right. She didn't want him to do this every time she was in the slightest bit of danger. She needed him to understand that just like he would rather get hurt instead of her, she too would much rather get hurt instead of him.

Also she was a trained agent. Just like him, she was equipped with the skills to handle danger. She wasn't some damsel in distress that needed a knight to guard her at all times not matter how cute it was of him to always be that for her and so much more.

Taking in a deep breath she spoke her mind to him. "You know I'm not made of glass, right? I can take a little wear and tear from time to time. I'm not that delicate Tim," she mumbled.

Reaching over he picked up her left hand that had been affectionately patting his arm and held it firmly in his own. "You are to me," he stated frankly as he regarded her with a determined look. "And I'm not about to stand idly by and watch you get hurt when I can do something about it."

"But Tim-" She started to protest only to be silenced immediately with his next words.

"In the presence of our families and friends I take you, Samantha Simpson, as my life mate. I belong to you. I offer my life to you. I give to you my protection, my commitment, my loyalty, my heart, my soul and my body. Your life, happiness & well-being will be treasured and placed above my own for all time. You are my life mate, mine for all eternity and always in my care."

Speechless at this word-for-word repetition of his wedding vows to her, Sam just stared back at him at a loss for words. Knowing he had made his point he smirked and went on. "So if you wanted to stop me from putting myself in harm's way to protect you, you should have never let me say those vows."

"But you don't have to take them so literally," She argued knowing that wedding vows were simply an exchange of love and not meant to be taken word for word. It was the sentiment that counted, it wasn't like signing some contract that could lead to punishment if you didn't live out every single part of it to the letter.

Yet Tim seemed to disagree with her on that. "Of course I do," he rebutted with an irritated look on his face. "Why say something if you don't mean every word? Are you surprised that I'd take it this way?"

After a long moment of staring at his face and easily picking up on all the dead seriousness on it as he asked her this, Sam relented with a defeated sigh. "No. No I'm not," she admitted because she honestly wasn't.

Tim was true-blue that way, unwavering in his commitment and always keeping his promises no matter what it took to keep them.

"You're Tim Scam," she whispered as she laced her fingers together with the strong ones that had been tenderly grazing hers and gave his hand a loving squeeze. "You say exactly what you're gonna do and you do it."

Watching him give her a little nod as if to say "damn right he did" she smiled before trying to get through to him again.

"But next time, can you please let me be the one who-"

"Alright," he shrugged with a dramatic sigh. "Next time I'll let you get burned instead. Now kiss me," he demanded bluntly, smirking at her.

Slumping her shoulders because she knew he wasn't serious about that promise at all, Sam gave him the kiss he was waiting for and just decided to be more careful during missions.

Because if a situation like this arose again they would be right back in this place. There was no doubting that. He would protect her always no matter how much she begged him not to. His mind was clearly made up and Tim, her Tim was nothing if he wasn't a completely stubborn, headstrong, and bullheaded man.

And she vowed to find a way to love him for it.

Hope y'all enjoyed! :) More updates to come! Oh and would anyone be interested in me doing a Christmas story this year? Let me know! :)

Love,
