Mount Justice.
September 22, 22:00 EDT.

A familiar voice broke through the fog of her mind. "M'gann, are you all right?"

M'gann concentrated on her uncle's voice and her environment soon came back into focus. She smiled at him as he helped her into a sitting position. "I'm fine, Uncle J'onn," she replied, forcing the words past dry, cracked lips and nausea, then brought her legs up against her chest and rubbed her arms to try and loosen them up.

Once her head cleared, she could sense Conner and Wally were still behind her, they appeared to be fine and she could hear a crackle of energy on metal, someone was busy freeing them, and as she scanned the room, she spotted Kaldur and Robin, they were on their feet and chatting with their mentors, Green Arrow and Black Canary were bent over Artemis, who was still on conscious, but began to stir as she watched, then sat up.

"She's alright," declares the Emerald Archer, as he helped her friend to her feet. "What happened?"

"What happened?!" echoed Artemis harshly. "The Reds happened. Tornado and his…" She paused, then scanned the hanger. "Wait, where are they?"

"Gone," replied Robin shortly. "All three of them… gone."

M'gann shuddered, she'd be a lot happier if the three androids were in custody.

Artemis broke away from Green Arrow and started to walk towards M'gann, giving Kaldur an assessing glance on the way. "Are you all right?"

M'gann nodded.

Artemis gave her a sceptical look, then turned to her uncle. "Are you buying that?"

"No," confirmed the elder Martian.

"Can you help me get her to the infirmary?" Artemis asked.

M'gann looked like she was going to argue, but a brief private physic conversation between the two Martians changed her mind.

As they passed by the two Atlanteans, Artemis paused. "Kaldur?"

He turned toward her. "Yes?"

"Can you come to the infirmary when you've got a moment?" Artemis asked. "I think you're in better shape than M'gann, but I'd like to be sure."

He considered the request for a moment, then nodded and returned to his conversation with his mentor.

September 23, 06:34 EDT.

M'gann sat with most of the Team at a table in the training room as Justice League members milled around them, working to fix the damage that the Reds had caused.

Sphere – who didn't seem any the worse for wear for having been buried halfway through the wall of the dock – was rolling around 'supervising' their efforts and stopped next to her uncle, who was working on the holo-computer. He smiled and patted her, and then returned to repairing the computer.

Green Arrow walked up to the Team's seating area and placed a bowl of pretzels on the table between them.

"Thanks, but no thanks," said Wally harshly, irritation following of him in waves.

Green Arrow backed off instantly to stand next to Black Canary.

"Yeah, what we want are answers…" Robin added from beside M'gann. "…About Red Tornado and his siblings."

Green Arrow doesn't respond.

"Exactly," snarked Wally, then reached out to grab the bowl that the archer held. "Leave the bowl."

Conner was standing at the head of the table, like Wally he was clearly annoyed and after a moment, he turned and launched himself across the room to where Kaldur and Batman were having a private discussion. "You knew?!" he growled, grabbing the straps of Kaldur's water-pack and slammed him against the wall. "That android and his maniac family nearly killed M'gann!"

M'gann flew over to the trio, confused. "Conner, what are you doing?"

"Kaldur knew we had a traitor among us and said nothing!" Conner snarled.

"You knew?" asked Robin, betrayal clear in his voice.

"And didn't tell us?" Wally added almost simultaneously.

Kaldur looked Conner straight in the eyes. "I sought to protect the Team from…"

"Sought to protect us from what?" Artemis asked, annoyed. "Knowledge that might've saved our lives?"

Conner turned towards M'gann. "You almost died."

M'gann was shaken by the situation but didn't reply.

"Enough," snarled Batman.

Everyone turned towards him, with Conner even releasing Kaldur.

"With Red Tornado… missing… the Team will now be overseen by rotation supervisors," Batman announced. "Captain Marvel has volunteered to take the first shift."

The red-suited hero stepped up to Batman's side, towering over the Dark Knight and smiled. "I'm really looking forward to hanging with you guys."

Wally, Robin, Artemis, and M'gann shared a look at that, surprised.

Conner turned back to Kaldur. "After I dismantle Red Tornado, you and I are gonna…"

Batman walked up them and cut him off. "Red Tornado is a member of the Justice League… that makes him a League responsibility. You will leave him to us."

M'gann wasn't sure she agreed, and she could sense that she wasn't the only one. However, none of them wanted to try and argue with Batman.

"I have another assignment for this Team," Batman reported, he summoned a holo-screen, on it was the front page of Metropolis' Daily Planet. The page was dominated by a blurred picture of a gorilla toting a large mini-gun and read: "Gorilla trades bananas for bullets."

"Gotham mayor attacked by 'guerrilla gorilla'?" Wally narrated sceptically.

(Was this the only thing he could find to distract us?) Conner asked her.

She didn't have answer for him, so didn't reply.

"Batman, please!" Robin begged. "Tell me you're not sending us on this joke of a wild ape chase?"

"I never joke about the mission," the Dark Knight insisted firmly. "I've checked the sources… I've studied the patterns… Mayor Hills' encounter is only the latest in a series of incidents. Aqualad, you and your Team will depart for India and check this out."

Aqualad nodded and turned towards the tunnel towards the hanger.

Wally moved in front of the Atlantean, making a small noise of disagreement. "Your Team."

M'gann sensed a flash of determination from Kaldur as she walked off with the rest of the group.

Moments later, she boarded Bio-Ship with Artemis, then paused next to the podium to wait for the others.

Sphere rolled up to the ramp as Conner was about to board. He turned towards her, holding out his hand. "Nuh-uh, go." He insisted, pointing towards the tunnel that led to the training room.

Sphere whirred and beeped, but eventually complied, rolling past Captain Marvel as he flew towards them.

"You're coming with?" Robin asked sceptically.

"Sure, we'll have a blast!"

"Translation: He blames us for the Red Fiasco," Robin muttered, turning to Wally as Kaldur walked by. "He doesn't trust us."

Wally glanced at their leader. "It's a big club," he remarked darkly, then followed Robin into Bio-Ship without a word to Kaldur, who scowled before joining them.

Northern India.
September 23, 21:35 IST.

"Landing zone in-sight," reported M'gann. "Engaging camouflage."

Robin released his harness and stood. "I'm going to drop and secure the area, then the rest of you can follow."

Artemis stood as well. "I'm going with you."

Robin paused to consider it for a moment, then nodded as he reached up and pulled down a line down from the ceiling.

"Get ready," said M'gann. "We'll be over the clearing in sixteen seconds."

Both heroes checked their lines and nodded.

A hole opened in the floor between them.

"We're in position… now," M'gann reported.

Robin and Artemis dropped down through the hole. Seconds later, the lines retracted back through the hole and then into the ceiling.

The remaining heroes waited for a moment, then Robin's voice came over the cabin's speakers. "Robin to Bio-Ship, landing zone is secure."

"Understood," confirmed M'gann. "I'm taking Bio-Ship to below the tree-line and opening the rear hatch."

Captain Marvel, Aqualad and Kid Flash were on their feet and out of the ship first. Conner was a little slower, waiting for M'gann to step off the pilot's podium before moving to leave.

Kaldur switched his costume to stealth mode as M'gann drifted out of the ship, then ordered the others to do the same.

M'gann immediately did so, but Wally did not.

"… then we'll review mission parameters," continued Kaldur.

"Parameters?" Wally snarled, belatedly changing his suit to stealth mode. "We don't need no stinkin' parameters."

"It's recon," agreed Robin, quickly. "We know what to do."

"Kid, Robin," Kaldur tried as the pair vanished into the jungle.

Robin turned back instantly to him. "The three of us started this team because the Justice League was keeping secrets from us!"

"Or did you forget that like you forgot to tell us about the Mole?" Wally added sarcastically, then reached up to put his goggles on.

Captain Marvel frowned but said nothing.

"Come on," said Conner, as he reached over and grabbed M'gann's arm. "I'll keep you safe."

(You're my boyfriend, Conner… not my keeper,) retorted M'gann angrily, shaking off his grip and crossing her arms. (Stop hanging on me like a character from an old sitcom.)

"I just… want to protect you," Conner replied, confused.

"Like Aqualad protected us?" Artemis countered as she stepped up to support M'gann. "I'm not sure if your protection or patronizing is good for our health." Then prodded him in the chest with her bow to reinforce the point.

Conner frowned at her. Which annoyed M'gann even more than she was already, so she turned and left the clearing with Artemis.

She was a little surprised that neither of the boys nor the captain tried to stop them.

"The boys will check out the site itself," Artemis suggested once they were out of earshot of the clearing. "I think we should take a different approach."

"Sounds good to me," M'gann agreed. "But I'm not sure what?"

"Well, one of my dad's… associates… took us hunting once," Artemis replied. "And he said the best way to find animals is to find a water source and follow the trails back from there."

"I can do that," M'gann agreed and floated upwards to get a better look. "I think I remember seeing a river on the approach to the landing zone…" she said, looking around herself. "There it is! This way!"

She dropped back down below the treeline but stayed afloat and lead the way towards the river and moments later, they arrived at a small waterfall.

Artemis scanned the area. "No tracks here," she reported after a moment. "Let's head downstream."

They hadn't gone far when something leapt out of the water and towards M'gann, mouth gaping open. She was barely able to grasp the beast and disable its bite with both hands and a leg.

"Hang on, M'gann!" Artemis shouted as she ran to the water's edge and stepped onto a log, then drew an arrow from her quiver and immediately fired it at the giant crocodile.

But then another crocodile rose out of the water and knocked her off her perch, seizing her quiver in its jaws on the second attempt. Artemis frantically tried to free herself, but the beast drew her down into the water.

M'gann dove into the water, heading straight for her teammate. Once she was in range, she grabbed her by the forearm and then telekinetically severed the straps of the quiver, allowing her to escape the beast's grip.

The gator wasn't keen that idea, but M'gann telekinetically pummelled the creature with waterspouts, sending it into the jungle on the far side of the river, and clearing a circle several feet wide in the middle of the river.

"Okay, nearly drowning two nights in a row is way less fun than it sounds," commented Artemis when she'd finished clearing her lungs of water.

M'gann nodded. (Aqualad, can you hear me?)

(Yes, Miss Martian. Report.)

(Artemis and I were attacked by animals wearing inhibitor collars like the convicts wear at Belle Reve,) reported M'gann as she began to telekinetically gather Artemis' scattered arrows.

(Miss Martian, I need a telepathic link up with the entire Team…) Kaldur said after a moment, his tone firmer than before. (Now.)

She touched two fingers to her temple. (Link established.)

(Should he really still be giving us orders?) Artemis asked as she poured water out of her damaged quiver and then started to repair it. (And should you really be following them?)

(Listen, please…)

(Oh good, Aqualad's voice in my head,) observed Wally sarcastically. (I've so missed that.)

(Hey, Kaldur… KF and I were attacked by giant vultures!) reported Robin, brightly. ('Course, since we're moles… you probably think we attacked ourselves.)

(If he did, he wouldn't tell you,) Artemis quipped as she buckled her quiver back on.

(Conner are you online… or just pouting?) asked M'gann, still a little sore at him from earlier.

(Busy, call back later.)

If he was someone else, I'd think he was in trouble… M'gann thought. But he's probably just being him.

(What gets me is how nonchalant he is about not telling us!) declared Wally.

(He should be chalant," Robin agreed easily. (Way chalant! Extremely chalant!)

(How are we supposed to be a team if he doesn't trust us with his secrets?) Artemis asked.

(Or if Conner doesn't trust us to take care of ourselves?) added M'gann, drawing a look from the other girl.

(Did he really think you or I could've been the mole?) KF asked.

M'gann suspected that he 'meant' to only say that to Robin, but he'd broadcast it to the whole Team.

(We've known each other for years!)

Artemis frowned at the dig. (Trust is a two-way street!)

(And you'd know they'd hate it if we kept secrets from them!)

(Not that we'd ever do that,) claimed Artemis. (Never.)

(Enough!) exclaimed Kaldur, angrily. (Captain Marvel has been captured, and we must act as a team to save him!)

(Heh… under your leadership?) Wally snarked. (I don't think s…)

(This is not up for debate!) demanded Kaldur. (You all chose me to lead.)

M'gann and Artemis share a look but didn't interrupt him.

(When this mission is over… if you wish to select a new leader I will happily step down,) Kaldur promised.(But until that time, I am in command here.)

None of them commented on that and the link was silent for a moment.

22:16 IST.

Tracking the Captain wasn't the easiest of tasks, but M'gann eventually managed to lock onto his mind and tracked him to a concrete building in a middle of another clearing, then settled – in camouflage mode – in a tree to wait for the others to catch up.

It didn't take long for most of the Team to arrive, but Conner was still a good distance away by the time they assembled.

(So, what do we do now?) asked Artemis, who was on alert, an arrow nocked.

(I could fly over?)

(Negatory,) said Wally, sharply. (There's a shield that extends like a dome over the whole compound.)

Robin scanned the apparatus with his holo-glove, (The pylons are insulated… but one good shock could cause a momentary gap.)

(I see a target,) reported Artemis. M'gann followed the other girl's gaze and easily spotted what she meant. There was a large red button set into the outside wall.

(Then be ready to hit it,) order Kaldur. (Be ready, all of you.)

The other two boys shared a look, frowning, but didn't argue as Kaldur ran up to the nearest pylon, stopping within arms' length of the field's boundary. He took a breath, and his tattoos began to glow, then spark as he charged the field with electricity causing it to weaken.

Seconds later, Wally gave the signal and Artemis loosed her arrow, slotting it in through the tiny gap that Kaldur had made and striking her target dead centre.

The panel beeped and the shield deactivated.

Kaldur powered down as it fell, then waved the rest of the Team forward.

M'gann drifted to the ground as Wally raced forward, she debated dropping her camouflage but decided against it when her attention was drawn to an over-sized macaque who had been 'on-watch' on the roof of the building, when it let out an ear-splitting howl.

Seconds later, alarms began to sound, and an entire troop of oversized macaques charged out of the building towards the Team.

One of the monkeys lunged at Kaldur with a screech, but the Atlantean created a pair of maces with his water-bearers and knocked it several feet away with a sharp swing. When it came to a stop and then turned and prepared to jump again, he spotted something around the creature's neck. He dispersed the maces and stowed his weapons in time to catch it by the shoulders and rip something off its neck. "Remove their collars!" Kaldur ordered as he returned to his feet.

"Sounds easy when he says it," grumbled Robin as he grappled with two monkeys almost as large as him.

Artemis kicked her opponent away, then drew an arrow from her quiver and shot it at the pair attacking Robin, disabling both and causing their collars to fall off.

The two monkeys looked around for a moment, and then vanished into the jungle.

Robin, who'd been watching them, turned back to Artemis and then threw two birdarangs in her direction, taking out two more monkeys that had tried to sneak up behind her.

But before they could celebrate, another threat – the same gun-totting gorilla who had attacked the mayoral party – came out the building, catching M'gann as she was about to try and get in.

Before she could react, the beast grabbed her by the shoulder with his free hand and slammed her into the dirt, knocking the wind out of her for a moment and causing her to release her camouflage.

But before the creature could take advantage, Wally rammed into him at speed, knocking him off balance long enough for her to get clear. As she did so, a familiar voice echoed in her mind. (M'gann…?(

(Conner!) M'gann responded. (Are you okay?)

(I'm fine,)

he assured her. (I'm nearly with you.)

(Great,)

M'gann replied, then turned to Kaldur. "Conner is on his way."

"Have him breach the compound's west wall, while we enter on the south."

(Conner?(

(I heard,) Conner confirmed. (Thirty seconds.)

"He'll breach in thirty seconds," M'gann reported.

"How are we going to…?" asked Artemis.

"I have an idea," M'gann replied. Then turned towards the gorilla and after seizing him the simian telekinetically, she threw him hard enough into the concrete wall hard enough to shatter it and drop him into the laboratory beyond.

"That'll work," quipped Artemis.

M'gann drifted through the ragged breach and then landed.

Artemis, Kaldur, Robin and Wally weren't far behind. "It's the Brain!" exclaimed Kid Flash as the dust settled and he glimpsed the distinctive cybernetic being.

"Uh," Artemis scoffed. "I can see it's a brain."

Wally gritted his teeth, then turned to glare at her over his shoulder. "Not a brain… the Brain."

"In zee flesh, so to speak," confirmed the cyborg, then turned to his partner. "Mallah…"

The gorilla raised a remote and triggered it, causing a set of pylons to rise out of the floor and begin to generate a stun field.

"Miss Martian, Superboy, now!" ordered Kaldur.

M'gann's eyes glow white as she snatched the remote from Mallah and pulled it into her own eyeline.

Just as she triggered the remote, the west wall exploded inwards.

M'gann glanced over that way and wasn't surprised to see Conner, who was grinning, clearly pleased with himself. What did surprise her at least a little was the massive, snarling white wolf at his side, who immediately leapt through the hole to charge at Mallah, only to be knocked away.

But this gave them an opening, and Wally and Robin both attacked to little effect. M'gann joined them, grabbing the villain telekinetically and slamming him against first the ceiling and then the floor, but all it did was get him angrier and focused his attacks on her.

In response, Conner attempted to ambush him from behind, but the simian dodged and nailed the Kryptonian with several rounds, knocking him back to land next to the wolf, only to be disarmed by the combined force of Artemis and Robin when his gun ran dry.

Meanwhile, Kaldur been fighting a defensive battle against the Brain, but managed to manoeuvre the cyborg into a position so that he was surrounded by most of the Team, allowing him to break off and free Captain Marvel.

"Thanks," said the big man, brightly, then moved towards a tiger that was lying nearby. "Now, one good turn deserves another."

Once freed, the tiger rose and stood with them as the two heroes turned back towards Mallah.

Kaldur drew his water-bearers again and took a combat stance,

Mallah glanced away, locking eyes with Conner, who was still guarding the exit that he'd made, then roared in rage.

"Try it," growled Conner confidently, which was echoed by the white wolf. "I hate monkeys."

"No Mallah, this will not be our Waterloo," said the Brain as multiple compartments opened around his body and began to emit a humming sound. "Au revoir, mes amis!"

"Get down!" Wally yelled as the humming built, almost drowning out his warning.

Conner tensed, Robin and Artemis backed off a little, and then suddenly everything goes dark.

By the time Robin and Wally managed to get the lights back on, the two villains had disappeared.

04:16 IST.

"What are you grinning about?" Artemis asked Wally as they entered the clearing where Bio-Ship was waiting for them.

KF held up Mallah's red beret and then put it on. "One word… souvenir."

"Two words…" countered Artemis, impishly. "… gorilla lice."

"Huh?" said Wally, then realised what she said and quickly removed it. "Oh, man!"

Captain Marvel was standing over Kaldur as he removed the collar from a macaque, who promptly ran off. He turned to the tiger. "That's the last of the collars?"

He growled agreement.

"I can count on you to keep the other animals out of trouble?"

He growled again.

"Good, I'll be back for a visit," he promised, then petted the tiger before standing and watching as he headed out of the building and into the jungle. "I think I'll call him Mr Tawny."

"The rest of the pack is gone," Conner observed to the white wolf as Mr Tawny ran past. "What are you still doing here?"

"I think he wants to stay with you."

"Can I keep him?" Conner asked M'gann, childishly eager at the prospect.

"First the Sphere, now this beast… Dude, you sure make a habit of collecting strays," commented Wally with a laugh.

"Maybe because he's such a stray himself," M'gann said with a smile. (Aren't you?(

(M'gann, I'm sorry,) he replied, and she could tell he meant it. (I was just worried.)

She knelt down beside him, placing a hand on his knee. (And that's sweet, Conner,) she admitted as she put her other hand on the back of his neck. (But on a mission… I'm your teammate, not your girlfriend. Agreed?(

Conner smiled at her. (Yeah,) he agreed, a little grudgingly.

"Well, he's gonna need a name," observed Wally, pulling them out of their private conversation. "Uh, how's about Krypto?"

The wolf growled.

"Pass," growled Conner in agreement.

"Besides, isn't that taken?" asked M'gann, then turned her attention to Bio-Ship's ramp where Robin was waiting. As Kaldur moved towards the ramp, he spoke up. "Look, I need to know. Why did you keep the mole-intel secret?"

Kaldur paused, and the rest of the group – including Captain Marvel and their new pet – moved closer to hear what he had to say. "The source of the tip was Sportsmaster."

"What?!" exclaimed Artemis. "You can't trust him!"

"I do not," confirmed Kaldur. "It seemed possible – even likely – that he was attempting to divide the Team with false information."

"And given how this mission went, he almost succeeded," added Robin. "But you had to consider it might be true."

"Yes… as leader, I did," Kaldur agreed. "In which case, I did not wish to alert the traitor."

The two boys lock eyes for a moment, sharing a moment of understanding and sympathy. Robin smiled. "I hate to say it, but it makes sense."

"I am still prepared to step down."

Wally raised his hand, drawing Kaldur's attention. "All in favour of keeping Aqualad as leader?"

M'gann, Conner, and Artemis all raise their hands instantly and as Kaldur turned back to Robin, the younger boy raised his hand too and offered him a broad, toothy smile.

The Atlantean nodded silently.

"Guess it's unanimous," concluded Captain Marvel, placing a hand on Kaldur's shoulder in support, then offered a handshake, which the teen accepted. "See you tomorrow."

"You're not coming back with us?" Kaldur asks, confused.

"Nah, gotta fly!" declared the older hero as he took off with a wave.

The wolf drops his giant head into Conner's hands for a moment.

"So, what are you gonna call him?" M'gann asked as she and Conner head up the ramp, with the wolf's head cradled in one of Conner's hands..

"What's wrong with Wolf?" the clone asked, puzzled.

"Generic," commented Wally. "But acceptable."

Kaldur brought up the rear, a pensive look on his face.
