Chapter 3: Troubling Start.

Spike and Soarin both stood outside of the gym, staring down the other waiting for their turn to be in the gym. Footsteps could be heard and they turned to see Twilight in her normal clothes.

"So, why are you doing this little match?" she asked holding the keys for them and Spike took them.

"We need to settle something." Spike said stepping into the gym with Soarin following him into the room, looking around at the whole gym and taking in a deep breath with Spike looking at him.

"Man, i haven't been on a court in years." Soarin said a smile on his face before turning to look at Spike his smile turning to a smirk, "Oh, did I not mention that I use to play and was really good at it?"

"I don't care about that." Spike replied stretching out his legs and making sure he was ready for the next move as Twilight looked at them both for a few moments before letting out a long sigh stepping onto the court. "Hey sis, what are you doing?"

"I can't really leave without you, so I'll be playing as ref for your little game." Twilight took out her whistle and blew it, grabbing a ball walking towards them. "Okay, best of ten?"

"Sounds good to me." Spike said tossing his jacket to the side line and looked at Soarin who smirked back at him.

"You really think you can take me on?" Soarin said looking at him as Twilight looked at them both looking at them really close holding the ball in her hand. She looked at them before tossing it into the air for a jump ball and they leapt for it, reaching up as Spike was fingertip away before Soarin's hand pushed it out of his reach and held it swing his hand around to keep it in his hand. Soarin landed and head straight for the basket with Spike keeping close to him, trying to stop before Soarin pulled back and did a quick fade away. Spike watched the ball make it and he caught the ball looking at Soarin who looked at him smugly.

"He is really good." Twilight looked making a mark for them as Spike dribbled the ball and looked at Soarin smiling as Soarin looked at him smugly. Spike just looked back at him smiling before charging on, trying to get to the net only for Soarin to smack the ball out of his hand and Spike watched him do a three shoot to get a second point.

"You need to try harder if you wanted to win." Soarin said tossing the ball to Spike and the two of them checked it with Spike watching him closely before charging towards Soarin, who smirked and went for a second ball steal. But Spike eyes widen and in an instant he swiftly spun around Soarin, doing a jump shot with their backs touching and Soarin turned to see the ball fall into the net.

"I'm just getting started." Spike said wiping his mouth and staring at Soarin in a way the infuriated him, and Soarin showed it doing a few quick steal baskets with Spike barely able to get two more shots in the meanwhile to see Soarin's lead of seven points.

"You should really know when you should stop." Soarin said making his seventh point and looked at Spike smiling at him, sweat covering his face and he wiped it away but Soarin felt something was off with the way Spike was playing. 'Why can't i figure out this problem in my stomach.' Soarin thought dribbling the ball and fading away for another shot but he stopped, his eyes looking as Spike was standing there with his arms out ready for defense. Yet Soarin could see a silhouette of a dragon staring him him down and Soarin flinched, stepping back to try to get a better shot whne a shidtle was blown.

"Traveling." Twilight said shocking Soarin and he handed her the ball, but his mind was locked on how could he have seen a dragon from out of nowhere. Spike dribbled looking at Soarin who was ready before Spike went for a shot and Spike jumped up to try blocking it, but Spike just smirked dribbling around him before doing a layup to get four points.

"The hell was that?" Soarin asked checking the ball and himself now having the time to push himself past Spike to make his lead nearly unbeatable, charging forward to force his way into the paint when the ball was knocked out of his hand. Soarin was wide eyed with Spike taking the ball and doing a fade away before reaching his fifth point of the game. Soarin panted and held his knees, sweat running down his face looking at him in shock. 'H-how come I'm getting so tired?' Soarin looked around until his eyes locked on the clock and he saw they had been playing for over thirty minutes through their game. "W-wait, we nearly played a whole game?" Soarin asked himself looking to Spike who was letting him rest holding the ball in his hand.

"Need to rest?" Spike asked looking at Soarin and Soarin realized what he was doing that made him feel off, he wasn't getting tired like he was.

"N-no, I'm good." Soarin said taking in a few deep breaths and stanking up straight staring at Spike before he did a check of the ball. Soarin's eyes narrowed as he charged forward and moved around with Spike moving, and leading Spike before moving around him and doing a jump shot to get his eighth point. "ha, two more and I win.' Soarin said happily looking at Spike and they did another check with Spike now having the ball. Soarin watched him move with the ball and he tried to stop Spike's charge, but Spike slipped through the space and did another jump ball making his sixth point. Soarin panted heavily with sweat running down his face and he tried to catch his breath while Spike looked at him concern.

"You sure your good?" Spike asked checking the ball and Soarin glared at him charging and pushing past Spike's defense to do a quick dunk.

"Yeah, and I'm about to win.' Soarin said checking with Spike and readied for a charge defense, but Spike jumped up and used a three pointer to score his seventh point. Soarin looked at him annoy before checking and then charged towards the net for another dunk, but Spike jumped up and knocked the ball out of his hand. Soarin was shocked as Spike landed and grabbed the ball, running full court till he reached the paint and hit another lay up. This frustated Soarin getting the ball and trying another shot only for Spike to knock it out of the air much to Soarin's shock. Soarin turned to try stopping Spike move but a sharp pain shot through his legs, stopping him to only watch Spike make it eight to nine with Soarin getting even closer to win.

"You need a rest?" Twilight asked him looking at Soarin and was ready to call for a time out before Soarin up his hand up to show he was good to go.

"Y-yeah, just a little rusty with the moving." Soarin said moving his knee to make sure it was good and resummed his match with Spike as he slipped by Spike, but missed the lay up he tried with it bouncing off and Spike catching it. Soarin winced trying to chase after Spike and was forced to watch Spike sink another jump shot for a tie game. Spike looked at him smiling and checked the ball, letting Soarin have it, and he was ready for more as Soarin moved around Spike as fast as he, puching himself to force a win under his belt. He charged in and got new the basket, but Spike was on him and stopping him from getting even closer. Soarin just smirk and leapt into the air, doing a hook shot much to Spike's shock and Twilight who was watching closely. Soarin smiled until a voice slammed into his ear.

"Why do you try something you can't do right?" the voice awoke Soarin and he stopped in mid shot before the ball fell to the floor after bouncing off of the rim. SPike grabbed it and ran towards the other net hitting another layup to get the tenth point. Soarin landed and then fell to the ground on his knees breathing heavily, sweat running down his face and all over the floor. Seeing this worried the other two and they ran over to Soarin with Twilight kneeling next to him.

"Soarin, you okay?" Twilight asked helping him to his knees and he looked at them seeing worried face.

"Y-yeah, just been so long since I played such a rough game." Soarin said standing up and nearly fell forward before Spike caught him.

"Why don't we help you home?" Spike asked and Soarin smiled having Spike put his arm over his shoulder, helping him out of the gym as Twilight cleaned up the few things they left and then joined them as Soarin guided them to his house which was near the school. As they left the gate, Soarin looked up at Spike who was helping him walk to his house and smiled appeared on his face.

"H-hey Spike?" Soarin called out and Spike looked down at him, "You have any of those club forms I could have?"

"W-wait, what?" Spike asked shocked at hearing him before Soarin simply shock his head.

"You reenergize my love for basketball and I think I could give it a second chance." Soarin said looking at Spike, who smiled looking at him and agreeing to get him one in the morning. After helping Soarin to his house, the two of them left with Spike excited for getting a second person to join his cause to make a boys basket ball club again. but Twilight had a bad feeling on how their game ended and she couldn't help to look at the house they were leaving.

Once inside his house, Soarin slumped down the front door and his hands covering his face with tears running donw his face.

"W-why did her voice come back at this time?" he asked himself sitting there by himself and feeling an old pain he wishes he could make vanish, but he felt Spike could be that as he continued to sulk over something.
