Chapter 02 - Dobby's Warning
Harry managed not to shout out, but it was a close thing.
A little creature appeared in front of them,
bat-like ears and bulging green eyes the size of tennis balls.
Lewis knew instantly that he been watching him out of the garden hedge that morning.
As they stared at each other, the creature bowed so low that the end of its long thin nose touched the ground.
The noticed that it was wearing what looked like an old pillowcase, with rips for arm and leg holes.
"Hi little buddy." Said Lewis, "This is a House Elf." Said Lewis.
"Harry Potter! But who are you?" Asked Dobby.
"I am his twin, Lewis James Potter." Said Lewis holding his hand out and shaking Dobby hand.
"So long I have always wanted to meet you, sir …
Such an honor it is …" Said Dobby.
"Th-thank you," said Harry.
"What is your name?" Asked Lewis.
"Just Dobby. Dobby the house-elf, sur,"
said Dobby.
"Pleased to meet you, Just Dobby, Dobby the house-elf, Sur,"
said Lewis smiling, "You got a long name,
but it be shortened to Dobby?"
Dobby just laughed and said, "Sure."
"You can come see us any time, but seems there something particular on your mind, a warning of danger?" Said Lewis.
"Oh, yes, sir," said Dobby earnestly. "Dobby has come to tell you, sir … it is difficult, sir … Dobby wonders where to begin …"
"Please sit down and relax,' said Lewis politely, pointing at the other chair.
To his horror, the elf burst into tears – very noisy tears.
"S-sit down!" he wailed. "Never … never ever …"
Lewis grabbed the elf and hugged him.
"You wanted to hug me?" Asked Dobby.
"Yes, this guy cute right Ron?" Asked Lewis.
"Yes he is," said Ron.
"Are you ok?" Asked Lewis. "Did I offend?"
"Offend Dobby!" choked the elf. "Dobby has never been asked to sit down by a wizard, like I an equal."
"You are equal, all Men are created equal." Said Lewis.
At last, he managed to control himself, and sat with his great eyes fixed on the Twins in an expression of watery adoration.
"You can't have met many decent wizards," said Harry,
trying to cheer him up.
Dobby shook his head. Then, without warning, he leapt up and tried banging his head with his hands, but Lewis grabbed them first before he could. "STOP now." Ordered Lewis.
"Dobby has to punish himself, sir,
Dobby almost spoke ill of his family, sir …" said Dobby.
"Your family?" Asked Harry.
"The wizard family Dobby serves, sir …
Dobby is a house-elf – bound to serve one house and one family for ever …" said Dobby.
"Do they know you're here?" asked Harry curiously.
Dobby shuddered.
"Oh no, sir, no … Dobby would have to punish himself most grievously for coming to see you, sir.
Dobby would have to shut his ears in the oven door for this.
If they ever knew, sir." Said Dobby.
"Stop calling me sur, just call me Lewis and him Harry."
Said Lewis.
"But won't they notice if you shut your ears in the oven door?"
Ask Harry.
"Dobby doubts it, sir, I mean Harry. Dobby is always having to punish himself for something. They let Dobby get on with it.
Sometimes they remind me to do extra punishments …'
Said Dobby.
"But why don't you leave?" Asked Lewis.
"A house-elf must be set free, sir. And the family will never set Dobby free … Dobby will serve the family until he dies, sir …'
Said Dobby. Harry Potter asks if he can help Dobby … Dobby has heard of your greatness, sir, but of your goodness, Dobby never knew …"
"Whatever you've heard about my greatness is a load of rubbish. I'm not even top of my year at Hogwarts,
that's Lewis," said Harry.
"Harry Potter is humble and modest," said Dobby reverently, his orb-like eyes aglow. "Harry Potter speaks not of his triumph over He Who Must Not Be Named."
"You mean Voldemort?" said Lewis, "And that was me not Him."
Dobby clapped his hands over his bat ears and moaned,
"Ah, speak not the name, Lewis! Speak not the name!"
"VALADMORMORT, VALADMORMORT, VALADMORMORT,
he tried to kill me twice now, will say his name if I felt like it."
Said Lewis, "No one is stopping me." Then Dobby then noticed both the Twins ears, and just started at them.
"What wrong Dobby?" Asked Lewis.
"The Potters are Elf's?" Asked Dobby.
"No and yes." Said Lewis.
"The Potters twins are now part elf,
one of my kind, you must be kept safe."
Dobby leaned towards Harry, his eyes wide as headlamps.
"Dobby heard tell," he said hoarsely, "That one of you met the
Dark Lord for a second time, just weeks ago … that you escaped yet again." Lewis nodded and Dobby's eyes suddenly shone with tears. "Ah, sir," he gasped, dabbing his face with a corner of the grubby pillowcase he was wearing.
"The Potter Twins is valiant and bold!
He has braved so many dangers already!
But Dobby has come to protect them,
to warn him, even if he does have to shut his ears in the oven door later … the Potter Twins must not go back to Hogwarts."
Their silence was unbroken.
"W-what?" Said The Twins, then Lewis stammered.
"But I've got to go back term starts on September the first.
Mind you we love our home. Love being at the Borrow but also love being at Hogwarts to. Voldemort tried killing me at school,
why would we be safer here then where the world's most powerful wizard will be watching over us." Said Lewis.
"And we stronger there near our Saphira our dragon friend."
"No, no, no," squeaked Dobby, shaking his head so hard his ears flapped. "The Potter Twins must stay where he is safe.
He is too great, too good, to lose. If Lewis and Harry Potter goes back to Hogwarts, you will be in mortal danger."
"Why?" said Harry in surprise.
"There is a plot, Lewis Potter. A plot to make most terrible things happen at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this year," whispered Dobby, suddenly trembling all over. "Dobby has known it for months. Lewis Potter must not put himself in peril. He is too important!"
"What terrible things?" said Lewis at once.
"Who's plotting them?"
Dobby made a funny choking noise and then tried banging his head his head into the tree, but Lewis grabbed him before he could and put him in a bear hug. "Not releasing you till you promise not to herm yourself."
"I promise." Said Dobby.
"Do you want to make us happy." Said Lewis.
"Yes." Said Dobby.
"Then don't heart yourself on purpose, Harry would that not make you happy to?" Asked Lewis.
"Yes, it makes us sad when you heart yourself Dobby."
Said Harry.
"Yes, it does." Said Lewis. "All right! You can't say, I understand.
But why are you warning me?"
A sudden, unpleasant thought struck them together.
"Hang on this hasn't got anything to do with Voldemort.
Who, has it? You could just shake or nod,"
he added hastily. Slowly, Dobby shook his head.
"Not – not He Who Must Not Be Named," said Dobby.
But Dobby's eyes were wide, and he seemed to be trying to give the twins a hint, but they were lost.
"He hasn't got a brother, has he?" Asked Harry.
"I know he has no brothers or sisters." Said Lewis.
"He does have two nephews still living."
Dobby shook his head, his eyes wider than ever.
"Well then, I can't think who else would have a chance of making horrible things happen at Hogwarts," said Harry.
"Dobby unless you can tell me why I should not go back to school I am going. I got my whole family here, but I have got my friends." Said Lewis.
"Friends who don't even write?" said Dobby slyly.
"I expect they've just been, hang on," said Harry frowning.
Then they through together. "How do you know our friends haven't been writing to us?" continued Lewis with rage growing by the second.
Dobby shuffled his feet. "The Potter Twins mustn't be angry with Dobby – Dobby did it for the best …"
"Have you been stopping our letters?" Said Harry.
"Have you been attacking our owls." Said Lewis through gritted teeth, starting to get very mad, anger radiating from him.
"Dobby has them here, sir," said the elf.
Stepping nimbly out of Harry's reach, he pulled a thick wad of envelopes from the inside of the pillowcase he was wearing.
Lewis through to Harry go on the other side and get his attention, while I stay on this side.
Harry went around Dobby still trying to get the letter the hole time. Lewis did a spell grabbing the letters,
and putting Dobby in a confinement cell.
"Potter mustn't be angry … Dobby hoped … if Potters thought his friends had forgotten him … Potters might not want to go back to school, sir." Said Dobby.
"Dobby did you get the letter off the owls."
Yelling, very mad and Lewis asked still yelling,
but Molly head this, looked out the window and came running,
"Did you attack them, DID YOU TOUCH MY OWLS?"
"I used magic, did not touch them." Said Dobby.
Molly was now standing behind Lewis, while Lewis then examined both owls completely and said, "There fine not a feather missing." Said Lewis, rage went away.
"See Potters are good and kind, care for you owl you do.
Will Potters not go back to school." Asked Dobby.
"NO." said the twins as they started looking through their mail reading one by one then swapping them.
They found letters from all Members of the Brotherhood,
Hagrid, even Hermione, the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
Dobby blinked anxiously up at Harry.
"Then Potters leaves Dobby no choice," said the elf sadly.
He tried to translocate out but could not.
"What have the Potters did to Dobby."
"You have no magic right now, if I hear of one of the owls
beating heart," Said Lewis, "Not sure what will happen,
wonder what a skinned elf would look like."
With an evil grin on his face scaring the elf.
"You would not do that to a fellow elf?" Asked Dobby.
"A fellow elf would not bother another elf's owls,
and I would do it to someone who hearts one of my owls."
Lewis said with rage in his eyes. "So, what are you NEVER going do again Dobby?"
"Miss with Lewis' owls." Promised Dobby.
"Lewis, are you going to let Dobby out?" Asked Molly.
"Not sure." Said Lewis. "Who you family?"
Dobby just sat there. "You not going to tell us."
Dobby just stared at Lewis not saying anything.
"Fine be it on you." Lewis stared at Dobby trying
to read Dobby mind, but Lewis started to show strain in his eyes and then his hair line started to glow finally Dobby
shoved him out, and Lewis collapsed onto the ground and the confinement cell disappeared and Dobby vanished.
"Lewis, are you ok?" Asked Molly.
"That elf stopped me, that has never happened before."
Said Lewis. "Going have to get better."
"Better at what?" Asked Molly then felt his head,
"Your head is hot, very hot."
"Happens, I move on after." Said Lewis.
"Better at what?" Asked Molly.
"Mind reading, that elf blocked me." Said Lewis mad at himself.
"Need to get better he the first that could detect me,
munch less black me."
"You should not be reading other minds," Said Molly.
"Why did you try?"
"He was messing with my Merlin," at the second Merlin showed up and landed on Lewis' shoulder, "and other of my owls,
spying on my twin, wanted to know from who he was sent."
and was now rubbing his cheek on Lewis'.
"Lewis, he did not heart me." Merlin sheared with Lewis.
"I know that now, but he scared me." Said Lewis.
"You my little buddy, love you."
