Chapter 7: Hero Wanted.

"So, Big Mac just stopped years ago?" Saorin asked standing by the door to the roof with Spie sitting near by looking up at the sky as the duo enjoyed their lunches.

"Yeah, but i hope we could talk to him because he would be a great add on to our team." Spike said eating his sandwich looking around.

"Yeah, but some times stuff like that just can't be fixed wiht talk." Soarin said drinking his soda and then tossing the can into the bin at the bottom of the stairs.

"We have to at least try." Spike said smiling nly for the sound of steps being walked on to get an answer and Spike could see that Soarin was walking down the stairs.

"Sorry, but I have extra classes for low grades today." he then dippped out of sight and leaving Spike alone with a long sigh escaping his lips while looking up at the sky.

"There has to be a reason for that." Spike said to himself finishing his lunch and headed down the stairs with his stuff before the bell rang out.

Mac packed his last few things from school and began to head on to the front door while he finished his cleaning of the class. What he saw waiting for him was Spike standing by the door.

"Hey Mac, want company on the walk home?" Spike asked waving at him.

"No, and don't you have practice to get to since under three monthes till the tournament starts." Mac said looking at Spike.

"My team are taking extra class because of pour grads." Spike said walking out with Mac who turned to look at Spike.

"What about you?" he asked him.

"Oh, my sister is without a doubt one of the smartest people in the whole school and she drills me everytime I need her help." Spike said proudly walking with Mac, now Spike can clearly see Mac towered over him and new he would be a great center if he joined the team.

"That's great, but why follow me?" Mac asked a hint of announce to his tone looking at Spike and Spike could see he was getting mad at him walking with him.

"Alright, I want to know why you didn't join the basket ball team?" Spike asked looking at Mac who looked at Spikedead in the eye with his framing looming over the younger man.

"I just lost my passion, people grow up and ideas of what they want change." Mac said walking on with Spike following close behind while Mac took notice of him.

"Then why have a full court in your backyard?" Spike asked looking at Mac and they both stopped with Mac turning to look at Spike, clearly fighting back something that hurt him deep down.

"It wasn'tto let me train." Mac said lookign down and then turning away from Spike, "it was so Applejack could hone her skills, she's the true star of the family. not me."

"But I saw you work on the practice and you were still good even after all these years." Spike said to Mac with passion, but he was ignored by Big Mac who simply walked on and leaving Spike by himself. Getting the hint by Mac's body language and turned to head out, walking on his own only to hear laughing from a nearby park. Spike followed it and soon he seaw Snips and Snails sitting there reading some comic books.

"Hey, I thought you two needed to take extra classes." Spike said walking up to them and looking at his teammates who looked at him with nervouse expression on their faces as they saw him.

"Y-yeah, well. W-we got out early." Snips said and Snailed nodded looking at Spike, seeing he was watching them over for a few moments before Spike let loose with a long sigh.

"I understand, that game crushed your love for the sport." Spike said slipping his hands in his pockets and he headed on towards home, "No need to return to practice, we're make do with what we got." The duo watched him walk off while a figure walked up behind them.

"Hey guys, was that Spike?" it was Sandbar himself looking at Spike walking off and neather of them answered with their head hanging down sighing.

"Hey Sandbar." Snips called out looking up at his and friend and continued, "Do you really want to be part of the basketball team?"

"Huh, yeah. Why?" he asked them confused with Snipe nor Snails answering hims, standing up and walking out as Sandbar held a basket ball in his arms. "Wait, where are you going?" Sandbar asked them.

"To figure out what we want." Snips answered him with Snails not repeating or added anything, as they head on down the street with Sandbar watching them confused as to why they would just leave like that.

Mac walking through hte front door and announcing his return to Grannysmith, who was in the middle of making supper and he headed up to his room. Mac tossed his bag to a chair in the room and he laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling with his mind on Spike. His words carrying more then the man epected and a long sigh escaped him with his eyes closing only to be woken up by the sound of a ball on the court. Looking out the window, ac could see Applebloom trying a jump shot and he felt something more then he thought he would. He sat there for a few moment before heading down to join his sibling and caught the ball when it bounced off the rim in yet another failed attempt.

"How are you doing?" he asked her smiling holding the ball watching her run up to him smiling.

"Good, just trying to get that jump shot perfected." she said smiling as she reached for the back in his hands.

"Well, i could give you a few pointers if you want." he said a wide smile on his face until he saw a look of unease appear on her face.

"Oh, um. i was going to ask Applejack to help me." she said looking aroudn having a nerves smile on her face, "She's the nationly ranked player you know." Mac's heart sank hearing her say that and he simply handed the bal to her, letting her continue her practice with his eyes locked on her. His mind filling with memories and a long sigh escaped his mouth before heading on through the living room.

"I'm heading out for a few granny." he announced tying his shoes before grabbing the nob.

"Sure, be back soon." she announced as he nodded heading out to clear his mind and hopefully to get rid of these memories in his head. But they continued with his hands in his pockets and walking around the neighberhood didn;t really do more then to add to his pain with seeing other playing with their siblings. He soon found himself by the park and his eyes looking on when a figure out of the corner of his eye caught his attention. Mac turned to see a young man practicing basketball alone. Sandbar was working hard with his ribbling, but Mac could see he was still new to it with the way his hands moved on the ball.

"Hey, how are you doing?" Mac asked walking up and continued to watch him fail at the jump shot like his siter was earlier.

"Oh, hey." Sandbar said sweat running down his face and he continued to try shots, "Just trying to master this jump ball before I head back into practice." Mac continued to watch him and his mind focused on something that popped in his head.

"Hey, your part of that new Boys club at the high school?" mac asked watchign him on.

"Y-yeah, i am." Sandbar answered not looking away from basket and then took another shot in hope to make it, but it failed yet again.

"When did you start basketball?" he asked looking at him and watching him working so hard.

"T-this year." Sandbar said continuing his practice, failing to notice the look on Mac's face as he stared at the young man in disbelieve.

"Why start now?" he asked more to himself then to the young man, but Sandbar simply tunred to look at him a smile on his face.

"What do you mean?" Sandbar asked back, "It's never to late to get into something right?" Mac didn't answer, nor could he as what the young man's words filled his mind with things he told him over the years when he finally turned atound.

"Tuck you're elbow under your arm." mac said walking on away and Sandbar looked at him, moving his arm just right as Mac had said and he launched it, making it go through the basket. Sandbar was shocked looking over to see hte guy gone, making Sandbar feel uneasy looking around before returning topracticing while Snips and Snails were watching in secret.

"He finally made it." Snails said looking at Sandbar making another shot while looking excited.

"Do you think he's right?" Snips asked with Snails looking at him confused, "do we really have time to get good at the sport?"

"How do we know?" Snails answered back and they both continued to watch with their minds fighting over what they could want to do with their membership.

Spike had his head hanging down while his mind was on what he could do with only real teamate as Soarin walked up to him and they headed on towards the gym with Soarin looking at Spike.

"So, anything new with you?" Soarin asked looking at him and hoping to make him feel better when Spike looked over at him.

"Well, i learned that Mac lost all passion to the sport and Dash might have gotten rid of the rest of our team with that match." Spike said looking up to the sky and long sigh esaping his lips.

"Yeah, that was somethign we were..." their conversation was stopped with a yell from the gym.

"SPIKE, WHAT DID YOU DO!?" the yelled was from Dash who was walking towards them with a furies expression on her face.

"What do you mean?" Spike asked confused at what he could have done to make her so mad.

"Don't give me that, your sister just resigned from the team this morning." Dash yelled out and Spikewas left shocked.

"What? Why would she do that?" Spike asked out loud only for two figures to walk up on them.

"Because I want to try my hand at coaching." Twilight's voice called out and all of them turned to see her standing there with folders with Ms. Luna standing there with her.

"W-wait, do you mean?" Spike started only to get silenced with a nod from her.

"From this day on, i'm the coach slash club manager." she answered him as he was left in a state of shocked, "Applejack, your the captain now."

"You sure Sugarcube?" Applejack asked looking at her when Twilight tossed her the captain shirt.

"Yes." Twilight said while Dash was still in a state of shock.

"Twilight, why would you leave with a club with just two players?" Dash asked.

"What do you mean?" a voice called out from behind Twilight and Luna, who turned to reveal Sandbar, Snips, and Snail all smiling with practice.

"B-but they can't even play or have anyone for center." Dash said trying to keep her point at how weak they were.

"I'm here to fix that." every one turned to see Mac walking up looking at them with a smile on his face, shocking everyone with Applejack staring at him. He walked right up to Twilight and handed her a sheet of paper, "My club form, since i need to give it the manager."

"M-Mac." Spike called out to get his antention, "what changed your mind?"

"Just realized it was never to late to start." Mac said looking at Sandbar, who was shocked but smiled back at him as the six players limbed into the gym with practice just getting started.
