Hey, King Spike Rules here and her is the next chapter to Spike's Basketball. The match between Soroan and Spike starts as the two pick their teams of the six and play a ten-minute practice to see who could get the most points to see who's the ace of the team.
Chapter 11: Ace Race.
The gym was silent as they all looked at the two stare each other down and grin at each other as Lune was just shocked at the whole thing and turned to Twilight.
"Twilight, it can't be a good idea." Luna asked and saw Twilight look at her for a few moments before turning back to the as they looked at her to listen.
"Squamish's are a vital part of practice and were about to be started today, so they can have this little match for the ten-minute mark." She said looking at them and Soroan turned to look at Spike grinning at him.
"Well, you heard the coach." Soroan pointed to the others as he said, "I'll even let you pick who will be on each team."
"Fine then, Sandbar and Snips." Spike said smiling, shocking everyone at his choices as Soroan was left speechless.
"Really?" he asked looking at him puzzled, "You won't be taking Mac?"
"Nope." Spike said beaming with pride, "Let's take a few minutes to talk it over and then we can go." Spike waved for the two to follow him and they did, both nerves as they huddled up.
"Spike why'd you pick us?" Sandbar asked looking at him confused and wondering what he was thinking, "Mac is better than both of us combined and if you lose, you lose your spot as ace of the team."
"Yeah, that's a whole lot of pressure." Snips said seeming scared of the whole thing, "What is we lose and your not Ace anymore."
"Then I won't have the title, but I believe in you both that we will win." Spike said smiling patting them both on the back and they walked to the center of the court where the others were waiting for them. Twilight held the ball in hand and looked at them both.
"Ready?" Twilight asked and they both nod, which allowed her to blow the whistle and threw the ball into the air. Spike and Soroan both jumped for it, looking into each others eyes as Soroan's hand reached it first and he launched it back into Mac's hands. He barreled down the court with Snips and Sandbar play defense on him, trying to keep him from getting the first points only for him to pace it to Soroan, who was in the three point line and launched it. The two watched as the ball flew through the net, gaining them three points. Spike caught the ball and looked at them.
"S-sorry." Snips said looking sheepishly and Sandbar couldn't really do anything more than nod, they had practice for weeks and yet they couldn't really do anything.
"Guys, we're not done yet." Spike said reassuring them and they smiled slightly, yet they were nerves as the whistle blew again. Spike had the ball and moved around the court, easily avoiding Snails steals and kept Mac in his eyes as he looked around only for the ball to be knocked out of his hand. Spike turned to see Soroan heading back to the other side of the court, twisting around Snips who stayed back to play defense and his a two pointer.
"Five points in under a minute." Soroan said smirking tossing the ball to Snips, who caught it easily and looked at it as he walked past Spike.
"Sorry, i couldn't stop him." Snip said looking at Spike who walked up and patted his head.
"Don't worry buddy." Spike said looking back at Soroan and his group getting ready for defense, "I have an idea that could get us points."
"I have to say, Soroan has a good strategy going for the start." Twilight said noting this as she looked at them.
"Really? How so?" Luna asked as she was trying her best to get the rules and strategy for the game, though she would admit it isn't that easy.
"It's a three-way defense." Twilight explained, "He knows Spike's good and could slip past one or even two of the, so he's dividing the work among them all to get the ball out of Spike's hands and giving them to him to get threes or two since he is the fastest of the three. It's honestly not bad."
"But he's overlooking something." Luna said looking at them, "Two somethings in fact."
"Exactly and I think Spike knows it too." Twilight said looking at them huddling up.
"Wait, you want that to be the plan?" Sandbar asked confused as he looked at Spike, who smiled back at him and patted his back.
"Yup, trust me." Spike said and they both nodded, looking at each other worried as they all got ready. Spike drove forward with the ball, moving quickly before coming face to face with Mac again. He smiled watching him as Snail showed up to box him in. Spike looked at them and smiled, moving his hand just slightly when Soroan went for a steal and knocked it out of Spike's hand. Right into Sandbar waiting hands, taking it and moving on the outside of them.
"Damn." Soroan said turning to head him off and but stopped in mid step, staring at Snips who was planted on the court with his arms crossed. "A screen?" Soroan said out of shock as Sandbar moved out and got into his spot.
"Tuck in the elbow." he said unleashing his shot just a Mac was about to knock it out of his hand, shocked as the ball moved through the air and landed in the net. Sandbar was in shock staring at the net after the ball hit the ground and bounced, leaving everyone in shock before Sandbar yelled out, "YEAH! IMADE A BASKET!" Spike high fived him and the other three watched with smiles as he was happy, while Soroan was left in shock at the basket being made.
"Twilight, what did Snip's just do there?" Luna asked confused at what happened, yet the excitement from one of the students did make her smile as she watched him celebrate.
"A screen." Twilight said noting it, "A play planets themselves to stop another offensive player to try and get the ball. They need to be not moving, otherwise they would not be counted if bumped."
"So, Spike had Snips act a screen to give Sandbar enough time to get to the shot?" Luna asked and Twilight nodded, as they watched Soroan hold the ball.
"It's okay Soroan, we can get the next one." Snails said as he looked at him and than at Mac.
"Yeah, let's go." Soroan stormed the other side where Spike was waiting, playing defense and keeping him from making a real move as Soroan looked at him, their eyes locked as he moved to get it only for the ball to be swatted from his hand. Soroan was shocked as Snips had knocked it out of his hand and into Sandbar's. He moved down towards the outside, yet he was met by the wall that was Mac.
"You know what to do against an opponent like me?" Mac asked playing defense and keeping Sandbar from moving forward.
"Not really." Sandbar answered him looking into his eyes, "But Spike said if it was you, go low." He then tossed the ball between Mac's legs and Snips caught it, moving towards the basket until Snails got in his way.
"Come on buddy, I got you." Snails said his arms stretched out and looking at him as Snips looked around before throwing it to the side, and Sandbar rolled around Mac through his confusion and got the ball again to take another shot.
"Oh, no, not a second time." Soroan said reaching across and his fingers tapped the ball, much to his shock as it went through the air and bounced off the rim. Sandbar was shocked and saddened before Spike's hands took hold of the ball and slammed it into the basket with a dunk. Spike hung there for a moments before dropping to the ground and flashed his team a smile while giving Sandbar a thumbs up.
"That was really good." Luna said holding her composure, yet she could tell that was an amazing move Spike had just did and knew it was great for his team.
"Yes, Spike used Soroan's key strategy to his advantage." Twilight said as Soroan picked the ball up, seeing that the score was five/four with them still in the lead. Yet something made him feel strange as he looked at the ball and then at his two teammates.
"So, what do you think we should do?" Mac asked looking at Soroan, who looked confused as to what was on his mind. he looked at the score and then back to them, "Soroan, you need to think of something."
"Right, let's do a three-way rush with me in the center." Soroan said and Mac shook his head, looking at him in the eyes.
"That won't work, they would steal the ball and then we're left open" Mac said looking at Soroan, who looked around and thought it over for a few minutes before facing Mac.
"I'm sure it will work." Soroan said with the whistle blowing and the trio were off towards the opposite side of the court, passing the ball between the three of them as Soroan was focused on Spike, who was spreading out with Sandbar next to him and they watched the trio move on. "Ha, I knew it." Soroan said his eyes focused on the side and watching for Snips to make his move, and soon he could see his hand reach for it. Soroan snatched the ball he was about to pass and lifted up over his head to keep it from it and went for a shot.
"Soroan, wait." Mac yelled out as the ball left Soroan's hands and was instantly slammed back down to the court. Soroan was in shock as Sandbar looped around and too the ball towards the net, hitting another shot that made it, gaining them the lead at 6/5. Soroan looked at the score, how could they have lost it in only a few moments and his mind was working on what he could do more to get through it.
"Soroan seems to be having trouble doing getting out of his head." Luna said looking at him and seeing him in this state hurt her as a teacher.
"He has taken each and every shot on his team side, but who has taken them on Spike's?" Twilight asked and then Luna nodded before thinking it through for a few moments, and then realized what she meant and nodded. Soroan just stared at the score, like it was a lie and he couldn't figure it out before being pulled from the score,a dn came face to face with Mac.
"DO you want to be the Ace?" Mac asked and Soroan was not sure, how he should answered and didn't so Mac continued, "If you want to be an ace, then starting using us more than just boosts to get yourself points." Soroan eyes widen before taking a deep breath and then smiled wide at him. He looked back at the score and then the time, they had five minutes before the match was over.
"Yeah, sorry about that." Soroan said getting the ball and bounced it a few times before handing it to Mac, "You take point, I'll help with the rest." Mac smiled and took the ball, bouncing it as the three of them walked on, with Spike smiling as he knelt down lower.
"Get ready you two." Spike said as Sandbar and Snips looked at him, "The real match is about to start."
