Olivia was getting ready for her weekend trip to New York for Michelle and Rafael's baby shower. She was taking Lexie with her. Hank was on the bed watching her pack.
"I know you're only going to be gone for a few days but I'm going to miss you."
"I gave you the option to go with me but you said no. You wanted to spend the weekend with Noah and Daniel."
"I know. I can still miss you though."
"I know you can. Just be careful. The last time I went to New York without you, you ended up in the hospital. I don't want that to happen again."
"Got it."
Hank got up and started kissing Olivia.
"You are so damn beautiful."
"We go through this every night."
"I know we do. Can I help it if I want to make love to my beautiful wife?"
"No. You're pretty irresistible too. Hold that thought."
Olivia finished packing, while Hank got in bed. Once she was done, she joined him. They undressed each other and made love before falling asleep in each other's arms. The next morning, Olivia woke up and went to take a shower. Lexie had woken up and Hank heard her, so he got up, put his robe on and went to get Lexie from the nursery.
"Good morning. How's Daddy's girl?"
"Dada!"
Hank picked her up, changed her diaper and looked to see if Olivia was out of the shower yet. She wasn't, so he went downstairs and warmed up her bottle. He also got a jar of baby food and a spoon. He set Lexie in her high chair and fed her her food. Olivia got out of the shower and put her robe on before checking on the boys and going downstairs.
"Morning."
"Morning."
Olivia bent down and kissed Hank.
"Mama!"
"Morning, Pumpkin."
Olivia let Captain out, made coffee and then she decided to do something quick for breakfast.
"The boys are sound asleep."
"Good. Maybe they'll sleep a while longer. I'm hoping to go back to bed after all of you leave."
"If you want to go back to bed now, I can handle Lexie?"
"Nah. I'm good. Did you pump more bottles for her last night?"
"Yeah. I did that while you were gone."
"Are you meeting Lisa, Sarah and Pauline at the airport?"
"Yeah. I figured I would go with Justin and Olive, so we can say our goodbyes there. Trevor is taking them to the airport. I know I'm going to forget something besides my head. I have too much to take."
"Why don't you just leave her here? It's not like it cost anything to take her on the flight. It probably cost more to take all her stuff."
"You sure?"
"It'll only be for a couple days. The shower is tomorrow and you'll be back on Sunday."
"Yeah, you're right but you had a boys' weekend planned for you, Noah and Daniel."
"I was planning on taking them to Brookfield Zoo and the beach."
"Can you handle three of them by yourself?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Thank you."
"No problem. Enjoy a couple days of peace and quiet."
"I hope you have enough bottles."
"If not, we have formula."
Justin and Olive came upstairs.
"Morning."
"Morning. I decided not to take Lexie."
"Good luck, Dad."
"I can handle it."
"Yeah, sure."
"I can."
Justin fixed something for himself and Olive for breakfast, while Olivia went upstairs to get dressed after she let Captain back in. Once Justin and Olive were done eating, they went to finish getting ready. Noah and Daniel got up and went downstairs.
"Hi Daddy."
"Hi Papa."
"Morning. You want breakfast now or wait until they leave?"
"We'll wait."
"Lexie is staying."
"Ok.
Olivia came down with her suitcase and Justin and Olive came up with theirs.
"Ok. We're ready."
"Me too. Noah, you be good for Daddy, ok?"
"Ok. Love you, Mommy."
"I love you too."
Noah gave Olivia a big hug.
"Be a good girl for Daddy."
Lexie gave Olivia the raspberries and started giggling.
"You're such a silly girl. Give Mommy a kiss."
Lexie gave Olivia a kiss and then Hank kissed her.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Bye-bye, Gama."
"Bye, Sweetie."
Daniel gave Olivia a kiss and then Olive and Justin said goodbye to him.
"You be good for Papa, ok?"
"Ok. I good boy."
"We know you are, Buddy."
Olive and Justin hugged Hank and then the three of them left.
"Mom, are you going to be ok without Lexie for a couple days?"
"Yeah. I could really use the peace and quiet. What I really do need is some time away with your dad, even if it is only for a few days. You two will miss Daniel."
"We will."
Justin continued to the airport and then once they arrived, he parked and then they headed to the Terminal. They got checked in and then headed toward Security. Once they got through Security, they had to say their goodbyes because their gates were at different ends of the Terminal.
"Have a great time, you two."
"You too."
"Take lots of pictures."
"We will."
"Love you."
"Love you too."
Olive and Justin hugged Olivia and then they headed to their respective gates.
"Do you think we should talk to Erin and Jay about setting up a trip for Mom and Dad?"
"Sure. She has mentioned that she would love to go to Paris. Maybe between the 4 of us, we can do that."
"Do they have passports though? I can't recall Dad ever going anywhere outside of the US. My mom wanted to go to Paris but unfortunately, that never happened."
"What if we tried to do it for Valentine's Day and gave it to them for Christmas?"
"That would work. They'll probably need a break from everything because there will be two new babies in the family by then."
"Yeah, true. We can call Erin and Jay later."
"Ok."
Olive and Justin got to their gate and sat down. Olivia arrived at her gate and didn't see Lisa, Sarah and Pauline yet. She sat down and waited. A few minutes later, they arrived.
"Hey, Olivia."
"Hey."
"Where's Lexie?"
"I decided to leave her. There is just too much stuff to bring and even though it wasn't costing me anything to take her on the flight, I still had to check her car seat, the stroller and pack 'n play."
"Yeah, that's true. That's part of the reason I didn't want to bring the girls. If it was for a week or longer, that's a different story but it's only for a few days."
"Who's going to help Trevor?"
"Greg brought Trevor over last night, so he stayed with them while Trevor brought us here. Greg and Trevor closed the office today, so I think they're going to help each other out. Trevor's dad is off this weekend. Sarah and Greg's 4 are a lot more independent than most of ours are. Emily thinks she's in charge anyway."
"When is Rita back?"
"She doesn't know."
"Are the in-laws around at all?"
"Nope. They live on the west coast and don't have much to do with Amy or the kids. Trevor's dad wants to go out there but he doesn't necessarily want to leave Trevor on his own with 5 kids. Dave and Amy's kids are more independent than ours are because they are so much older but they can't be expected to take care of their parents and each other. Amy has no other family out there and neither does Dave."
"Does your dad ever take time off other than when we all went to Florida?"
"He could be off this weekend. Being the Chief Surgeon, it's hard for him to get time off. You know how that goes."
"Yeah. Kyle is definitely more cooperative than Fin ever was. Kyle has been so helpful even before he became a Sergeant."
"I'm going to try to come back Monday. I am so bored sitting at home."
"Desk duty isn't that exciting."
"Yeah, I know."
"Do you need me to pick you up?"
"If it's ok."
"No problem."
"Are you out in the field any more with me off and Erin on desk duty?"
"Not really. Kyle has basically taken over and I'm fine with that. I don't go out unless I absolutely have to. I'd be happier if Hank would do the same thing. Intelligence got a case last night that he ended up going to."
"I heard that call. I've been thinking about cutting down on going out too."
"I had a feeling that was coming."
"Is that ok?"
"Oh, yeah. I told Hank that once he got promoted, I'd do some thinking about what I was planning to do. I'm not quite ready for retirement yet."
"That's where I'm at too. Is Hank ready for retirement?"
"Not completely. I'll probably end up retiring before he does. Erin has expressed interest in wanting to take the Sergeant's exam at some point but there's really no where to put her right now."
Sarah covered her mouth, got up and ran to the washroom. Several minutes later, she came back.
"You ok?"
"Yeah. Greg and I found out the other day that #5 is on the way."
"No way! Congratulations!"
"Thanks."
Both Pauline and Lisa hugged Sarah.
"How'd Greg handle it?"
"He's happy."
"Are you?"
"Yeah but I really want a daughter. We weren't even trying and it just sort of happened."
"Have you told the boys yet?"
"No. Greg said he was going to talk to them this weekend. Trevor is going to think we're weird."
"Been there, done that. Maggie wasn't planned and Ellen and I were 12 and 10 when she was born. She was a great mom considering what she had been through but she never would have been able to do it without Mom and Dad's help."
"Don't underestimate Trevor. He's a good kid and has a great head on his shoulders. You and Greg did a great job with those boys."
"You did a great job raising Em on your own. I know I don't say it very often. Trevor is much better for you than that idiot Eric ever was."
"That's for sure. Greg and I had really hoped you and Trevor would have gotten together years ago but apparently neither of you remembered standing up together at our wedding."
"I think I was more concerned with hanging out with Kevin and PJ afterwards."
"Do you ever think you'll end up like Pop?"
"Everyday. As much as I miss him, Kevin's death hurt a lot more."
"Dad's death really messed me up but Maggie's been through more than any of us. I can't imagine having to bury one of my kids or even one of my grandchildren like Mom had to do. Ellen told Mom that Dad and Kevin were waiting for her whenever she was ready and that the rest of us would be ok. She would have loved the twins and spoiled them rotten and I think she would have loved that her baby finally found love."
"Do you think she would have liked Ed?"
"I think she would have. Although Maggie once said that she would never get involved with a cop or a firefighter. She must have changed her mind about that. Her biggest thing was that she never really trusted men after what happened to her. She always got along with Paul and Steve and her nephews-in-law but she was afraid to get involved with anyone."
"That is completely understandable. Is she planning anything for when Ed retires?"
"The 6 of us are going to Ireland in October. He doesn't know about it though. She is planning to have a party but when, I don't know."
"I still can't figure Dad taking that much time off."
"He needs it whether he thinks he does or not."
"Hank and I need some alone time. The last time we went anywhere on our own was just over a year ago when we went on our honeymoon."
"Trevor and I need some time alone too. He wants to go to Germany for Oktoberfest but I'm not so sure I do. Sarah, when are you due?"
"February. I'm really going to think pink this time."
"That's what Hank and I did. He told me about when Justin was born and Justin's twin sister was a stillborn. I knew I wanted a little girl even more than I already did because he wanted a daughter too."
"I take it my father-in-law knows."
"He was the one we saw. I'll be happy with another son but I've always wanted a daughter. I was hoping the last two would have been girls."
"You can borrow mine any time. Trevor wants a son that's his but when I think about it, there are so many boys in my family."
"Are you two talking about having another one?"
"We will eventually but just not right now. I want the twins to be at least 2 years old before I do it again."
"As thrilled as I was to be getting Benjamin off to Kindergarten, we're back to square one. On top of that, we have one that will be off to college in a couple years."
"That doesn't seem possible."
"Has he started thinking about what he wants to get into?"
"He thinking about medicine. I hope he chooses to apply at Northwestern. Greg is hoping he applies at Yale as well. He and Ashley have been together almost a year now and we've known her family for a long time. If they're still together by the time they graduate, I don't want them to have to deal with the long distance thing like Greg and I did. I'm actually surprised our relationship lasted college and then Law School."
"You told him you'd go with him to Hartford. We weren't worried about the two of you at all."
"Greg thinks that going away to school will be a good experience for Trevor."
"Don't get yourself worked up about it right now. Let him choose where he wants to go. Dad went to Northwestern and so did we."
"I'm glad Hank and I have a while for that yet."
"Me too."
"Lisa, did you say that Kevin met a girl while he was here?"
"Yeah. She's my nephew's girlfriend's cousin and she actually lives in New York or New Jersey."
"I don't think Rafael is ready for the girlfriend thing yet."
"Kevin said he was going to tell Rafael about her on the trip home. They were going to keep in touch and then meet up once she got back."
"Does your son's girlfriend get along with his brothers?"
"Oh yeah. They've known each other since Kindergarten and have been friends all this time. Whenever they have dances at school, they go together. She has 3 sisters about the same ages as our 3 younger boys, so she's used to the chaos at our house. Her youngest sister will be starting 1st grade, so she's just older than Ben. Her dad has been a friend and Client of Greg's for years. Her mom and I have become good friends too."
"Wow! Maybe there is hope for Noah and Emily."
"I hope so. That would be great if they ended up together."
They talked until they had to board the flight. Lisa and Olivia were sitting together and Pauline and Sarah were sitting together. They all texted their husbands before the plane got ready to take off. I just a few hours, they would be in New York.
