— X. RACHEL & CASSANDRA: FORESIGHT

"You know, I'm not sure what's worse." Rachel's guest said. They were sitting in the Oracle of Delphi's rather comfortable cave, Rachel standing at her easel while her guest sprawled out on the couch.

"What are the options?" Rachel asked, eyeing her guest, then switching back to the painting she was making of her.

"Seeing the future and being believed, or not being believed."

Rachel sighed, and set her paintbrush down at the base of the easel. "Cassandra…" Rachel began carefully, thinking. She wasn't sure how to respond to that. She's glad that all of her warnings and prophecies had been believed, since they'd stopped a lot of people from dying, but "Wait, what do you mean?"

"Young oracle, it has been a long time since someone pestered me for a prophecy." Cassandra said, laughing. "Not only because everyone who thought I could prophesee is long dead, but also because no one would believe my prophecies anyways! I have to say, dear, it is a much more relaxing life without being bothered all of the time by men and women and children all nattering on about needing help, or needing advice.

"Did you know, darling, that now I only have to see what I want to see? I used to be forced to watch the future of whoever came to me, again and again, and they would never believe me. Even if they had, you know how cruel prophecies are. They would have been dissatisfied anyways." Cassandra complained, "It has been so long since I've been forced to watch people suffer, or die, or worse have wonderful lives with lots of children and so much joy."

"I think the difference between you and I is that I enjoy helping people, and I want to see them have good lives," Rachel said dryly. "It's frustrating to see the future, I'd agree with that. It's even harder when I can't just tell anyone about how I don't just see one quest or a prophecy but— It's hard. Of course it's hard. I can't just tell people what will happen either, it has to be in prophecy form… but I've still helped people. I've still given people advice that has saved their lives. I don't know, I don't think I'd trade it for anything."

"How naïve, girl," Cassandra sneered, "You think you can help people? You think they care about you?"

"I'm pretty sure the answer to that has been proven 'yes' before." Rachel said mildly. "You obviously aren't, but I'm confident. Comfortable with my place in the world. Satisfied— pick a word for it, it doesn't matter. I'm the Oracle of Delphi now, and yeah, I do like being believed."
