Kaira walked down the stairs to the ground floor, taking a better look at the living area. It was a spacious room. Several couches and a TV surrounded a coffee table. On the other side of a low wall was a kitchen. It had almost anything you needed, a stove and oven, a microwave and cupboards filled with all kinds of kitchenware to make just about anything you wanted.
U.A. hadn't always been a boarding school, but two decades ago the school decided it would be safer to house the students on school grounds to protect them from villains that had grown bold. There wasn't a danger for the students anymore, but the school didn't want to waste the dorms, so, while no longer mandatory, students that wanted could opt to move into these old dorms.
Kaira was one of those students. Her written exam had left some to be desired, but the practical exam went as well as she expected. She got into U.A. no sweat. She had just unpacked all her stuff, gotten settled into the dorms and was gonna go for a walk around campus to take in the surroundings. There were still a few weeks to go, but getting acquainted with the campus before the start of the year sounded like a good idea.
The blue girl was pulled out of her thoughts when she heard the front door open and close. She went into the entrance hall to see who her dormmate would be. A surprise awaited her when she recognized the student entering the building. A mess of brown hair, clothes that did not fit him and a pair of glasses on his nose heralded the entrance of the boy that had rescued her during the practical exam. Her rescuer carried surprisingly little with him. A big backpack strapped on his shoulders and a suitcase was all he had with him.
Kaira also noticed he was alone. No adults were accompanying the boy. Had they already left or had he made his way here by himself? Kaira had, reluctantly, let her parents her with moving in. They had managed to take a morning off to help her move in and get her dorm room set up. U.A. wasn't terribly out of the way, but walking here with even his amount of baggage was tiring, yet the boy looked fine. He raised his hand while a grin grew on his face. "Yo! Are you gonna be living in the dorm too? Pleasure to meet you."
"Hey, you're that guy that tackled me during the practical exam!"
The boy looked at Kaira with confusion on his face. "Huh, I-I think you've got me confused with someone else. I didn't tackle anyone during practical."
The small girl was not convinced. This guy looked exactly like the boy that collided with her, down to the tufts of hair that refused to lie down. He was lying, he must be and she didn't like liars. She stomped towards her rescuer, got up in his face and poked his chest. "Don't play dumb with me! You look exactly like the guy that rescued me from that giant robot. Now admit it!"
The newcomer raised his hands defensively."I-I don't know what you're talking about. I've n-never seen you before and y-you look kinda unique. I think I'd r-remember you."
"Hmmph, fine! Pretend you don't know me. I'm going for a walk." Kaira walked past the boy. She was fuming and needed to clear her head now. She knew he was lying. She just needed to find the proof.
"H-Hey, You're a first-year too, right. My name's Saotama Tora. Pleasure to meet you!" His voice was shaking, but he tried to be friendly.
Kaira glared back. "Netsuka Kaira. Better remember it 'cause you'll be seeing my name on the leaderboards."
Tora let out an exasperated sigh. Off to a good start… He grabbed his bag and went looking for his room. Hopefully they wouldn't be in the same class. She was aggressive.
Tora had managed to avoid the aggressive blue girl for the weeks running up to the start of school. They had passed each other in the hallways, but Tora usually avoided her gaze. He could still feel her glare burn into the back of his head. This was gonna catch up to him at some point, but right now he was just going to pretend he didn't know who she was.
The opening ceremony had been fairly standard. Boring speeches by the headmaster, an anthropomorphic mouse, and the president of the student council, a green guy from the general courses. Once he had entered his class, however, he immediately saw a flash of dark blue in the corner of his eye. Of course they were in the same class… Fate really liked messing with him.
Netsuka felt his gaze, looked up and shot lightning at him again. Tora quickly averted his eyes and hurried to his seat.
When he sat down, the boy at the desk in front of him leaned backwards.
"Why did she glare at you like that?"
The boy looked rather distinctive with pink hair and black eyes with red irises.
"She thinks I'm lying to her about who I am."
"Wow, first day in school and people already have you confused with someone? Must be rough."
Tora sighed. "Yeah, I hope I can clear it up soon." He wasn't too sure about it though. The fact that the girl had been glaring at him for two weeks now suggested she was stubborn. He'd have to talk to her at some point to get things sorted out.
"You'll be fine. The truth always gets out." The boy flashed a toothy grin. His teeth were pointed and sharp. "By the way, What's your name? Mine's Kirishima Itsuki."
"Saotama Tora. Pleasure to meet you."
"Likewise man. How did you do on the entrance exams?"
Tora opened his mouth, but quickly closed it when the classroom door opened and their homeroom teacher entered. A tall man with chin-length black hair and a big grin on his face. His most striking feature were the cylinders on his elbows, obviously related to whatever quirk he had. The entire class fell silent and got in their seats while the teacher grabbed some chalk and started writing his name on the blackboard.
"Greetings class!" The teacher turned around, facing the class. "My name is Sero Hanta and I'll be your homeroom teacher this year. I hope we'll get along. For now though, grab your bags and get in your gym uniform. We're going outside!"
With questioning murmurs, the students filed out of class to the changing rooms.
About fifteen minutes later, the entire class stood in one of the many courtyards of U.A, dressed in their blue sport uniforms, facing their teacher.
"Why are we already outside?"
"Are we gonna be sporting already?"
"I don't even know who you guys are!"
Sero raised his hand to quell the mumbling. "I'm sure you're all wondering what we're doing outside already. You didn't even get the chance to introduce yourselves to class. Well, that's what this is gonna be for. You're all in the hero courses, so your quirks are going to be a big part of classes. We're going to turn introductions in training."
A collective groan escaped the students' mouth. They expected U.A. to be tough, but to start training even before they knew each others' names seemed excessive.
The teacher pulled a little device from his pockets. With a quick press a holographic table was projected in front of the students, showing their application photographs. The pictures were paired.
A boy with neon blue hair raised his hand. "Sir, the ordering of these pictures looks kind of random, and why are we paired up?"
"Good question, Denkyuu. One I will answer right now. I have split you up in pairs because you will be fighting each other."
More murmurs among the students.
"What?!"
"I guess it makes sense. Heroes fight a lot."
"B-b-but..."
"Now now, calm down." Cellophane raised his voice, beckoning the students to silence. "It's not gonna be just a normal exercise. We're going to see how good you are at analysing your opponent, because getting your partner on the ground isn't the only way to win. You also win when you can guess what your opponent's Quirk is. You're free to use your quirk, but the more you use it, the easier it will be for your classmate to guess. This will test your fighting abilities, but also your analytical mind. It also gives me an idea how comfortable you are with your Quirks and where you stand in combat analysis. We'll be doing plenty of exercises and tests the first week to see how far everyone stands."
"That's a cool exercise!"
"That's to be expected from U.A."
"I can't wait to fight!"
"Alright," Sero once again called everyone to silence, "first up are Saotama and Kirishima."
Tora and Itsuki looked at each other.
"Good thing we didn't talk too much. We might've told each other our quirk." Kirishima grinned.
Tora nodded and returned a smile. "Just don't expect me to go easy on you just because we started on good terms in class."
Itsuki laughed heartily. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
The two friends walked to the centre of the court, gave a curt bow and got in their fighting stances. Kirishima took a wide stance, lowering his centre of gravity and allowing his arms to spread. Soatama, on the other hand, took a more rigid stance, slightly spreading his legs and raising his fists to eye-level. The two students looked each other up and down, anticipating an attack and preparing their own. The other students looked on in tense and excited silence.
It was going to be hard for Tora to guess what Kirishima's quirk was. He had some standout features, but nothing that immediately pointed towards a quirk. He couldn't plug in his earbuds. That'd give his quirk away in seconds. A diversion perhaps?
Before Tora could devise a proper strategy, his opponent charged at him. He managed to block Itsuki's first blow, that was aimed at his head. The pink haired boy followed up with a leg sweep, hoping to get Tora on the back foot. Tora jumped, but his feet still got hooked. He managed to catch himself, pushing off the ground with his hands and jumping back to his feet.
Itsuki's assault didn't stop there. Blows kept flying. Tora kept up his defences, but he was having trouble keeping up. Everyone could see Tora was already getting tired while Itsuki did not relent.
Finally, the attacking boy managed to get in a solid blow in Tora's stomach. Tora fell to the ground, clutching his stomach. It wasn't an all-out punch, because it was just a mock battle, but it still hurt.
"Sir, do I really have to knock him out? It feels kinda bad to start like this on the first day, no?" Kirishima turned to the teacher, doubt clear in his eyes. He had just gotten to know this boy. They seemed to hit off well and now he was beating him up. He didn't want there to be bad blood between them.
Sero raised an eyebrow. "I never said anything about knocking him out. Just hold him to the ground."
"Wait really? Damn, I've been going at this the wrong way." Itsuki turned back to his opponent, who had stood up again while he was talking to the teacher. "You really wanna keep going? I got you pretty good there. I don't wanna hurt you more."
Tora showed a pained grin. "I'm not done yet."
"Suit yourself." The pink haired boy shrugged. He again charged forward letting his fist fly.
This time, however, Tora did not block the blow with his arm. He straight up caught the fist with his own hand. Kirishima's eyes opened wide in surprise. The rest of the class gasped at the sudden display of strength. Tora had been barely blocking Itsuki's blows, constantly being forced back, but now he was standing up to his punch with little effort. What had changed? He quickly scanned Tora to look for any changes in his appearance that could point to his sudden change in power, but the only change he saw was that Tora was now wearing earbuds. Could that really be related to his quirk? He had seen stranger quirks. It was worth a shot.
"So you get stronger when you're listening to music, huh? That's quite a conditional quirk." Kirishima grinned. "Do I win now?"
"Close, but not quite." Tora responded, "Now it's my turn, ya big palooka."
Kirishima pulled his fist loose and jumped back, ready for whatever Saotama was planning. Saotama quickly followed him with his own fist at the ready. Itsuki managed to block the punch, but the force behind it blew him back about a foot. Tora's power had increased a lot, but it wasn't all? This was bad for Itsuki. He didn't want to use his own quirk. He would give away the match almost immediately, for one, and he didn't want to risk severely hurting his opponent.
He wouldn't even get the chance to use his quirk. Tora ran up to him while he was still recovering from the blow, pushed him to the ground and pinned him down, pulling one of his arms behind his back in a hold.
"Alright, that's enough." The homeroom teacher interjected. "Saotama has won the fight."
"Sorry about that. I think I was a bit too rough there. Are you okay?" Tora let his classmate go and helped him to his feet.
Itsuki rubbed his sore shoulder and laughed. "Yeah, I'm good. Just got it beaten into me that I shouldn't underestimate you."
Sero approached the two students, checking them for any injuries. Luckily, they were both fine. Nothing serious, just some bruising and, in the case of Kirishima, wounded pride.
"Now that that's done, why don't you introduce yourself to the rest of the class. Your name, your quirk and anything else you'd like to tell."
Kirishima spoke first. Despite his roughed up state, he sounded positive and full of energy again. "My name is Kirishima Itsuki. My quirk is called Acidic Shard. I can shoot stone shards coated in acid out of any part of my body, but if I shoot too many shards the acid start to eat away at my own skin too, so I gotta be careful with that. I like video games and wall climbing. Pleasure to meet you all!" He gave a short bow to punctuate the end of his introduction.
Saotama on the other hand was less energetic, still panting slightly from their bout. "My name is Saotama Tora. My quirk is called Rhythmic Enhancement. Whenever I listen to music I become stronger, faster, smarter or become better at something else depending on what music I'm listening to. I like cooking and of course, listening to music. I hope we can get along." Saotama followed Kirishima's example and bowed at the end of his introduction.
"Alright! We're off to a good start with such strong fighters." Sero gave the two students a slap on their shoulder. "You two rest up and tend a bit to those bruises while you watch the next matches."
Tora and Itsuki walked back to the rest of the class. Most people looked impressed at their fight.
They may have gotten a bit too caught up in fighting each other though. They weren't seriously hurt, but their muscles sure were burning and they had several bruises where fists collided with arms, faces and other body parts.
When they were close enough to the rest of the group, the two boys let themselves fall to the ground as the adrenaline left their bodies.
"Darn, I'm starting to feel it now. That's a strong hold you had on me." Itsuki groaned while moving the shoulder Tora had pinned a few minutes ago. "You're stronger than you look."
"I can say the same for you. My forearms are gonna be sore tomorrow!"
While the two combatants were tending to themselves the fights continued.
Next up were Cheikatsu and Kumodoku.
Cheikatsu Chihiro was a tall student with pale skin and white hair. He gave off a low energy vibe, slouched forward and a tired look in his eyes.
Kumodoku Gatsu was a lab coat away from the mad scientist look. His black medium-length hair stood in all directions and his poison green eyes were locked into a permanent scowl. His most outstanding feature was the orinasal mask that he was wearing, a type of gas mask that only covered his mouth and nose.
The battle itself was over quickly. Before Cheikatsu could get ready, Kumodoku took off his mask and let a purple mist escape his mouth. It didn't take long for the fog to envelop both students. A few seconds later Cheikatsu had fallen on the ground unconscious.
Kumodoku was declared the winner and both students introduced themselves after Cheikatsu had woken up again. Cheikatsu's quirk allowed him to control his blood and anything coated in it. Unlike one of their teachers, Vlad King, he couldn't harden his blood and if too much blood is used he still gets symptoms of hypovolaemia.
Kumodoku could breathe all types of gas, poisonous gas, corrosive gas, sleeping gas and smoke screens being the ones he could reliably produce for now. He did however not have full control over what type of gas he breathes out and cannot breathe out normal air, so he was forced to wear a gas mask to filter the air and not endanger or inconvenience himself and those around him.
While everyone was waiting for Cheikatsu to wake up from the Kumodoku's gas. A student decided to check on Kirishima and Saotama. Itsuki quickly recognized her. Her moth wings alone betraying who she was.
"You two look quite beaten down." The moth girl crouched next to the two boys and conjured up some ointment from one of her pockets. "Allow me to help you."
When she applied the ointment, Itsuki sucked air through his teeth. "That stings. How does some simple ointment sting like that?"
"It's a special recipe from my mother. It's potent, but due to its fast results it can be slightly uncomfortable. Now please hold still. I don't want it spread out more than it needs to be."
Itsuki gritted his teeth while the moth girl continued looking after his bruises. When she was done, she turned to Tora and wanted to start tending to him.
"That's twice now you've taken care of me. I'm gonna have to pay you back in some way."
The girl looked at Itsuki with a confused look, but it quickly got replaced with recognition.
"You're the boy from the entrance exam! How wonderful to know you passed. You looked slightly shaken then and I feared you wouldn't be able to give it your all."
"Oh yeah. I had no problems. Those robots were no match for my quirk." Itsuki flashed a wide grin. "What's your name? So I know what to call my saviour."
"T-Tobuga. Tobuga Yui." A slight blush reddened Tobuga's cheeks. "But I wouldn't call myself a saviour."
"Nonsense! You prevented that robot from squishing me into the asphalt. I'd say that's pretty saviour-ish."
While the two students were conversing, Tora was looking around. Those two clearly had some history already and he didn't want to butt in. His eyes quickly fell on Netsuka. Unlike most of the students she wasn't observing the fights or talking to a classmate. She was warming up, running in place and stretching her limbs. And she was… glowing? A light blue glow was coming out of her hands and some light at her gymshirt's collar suggested her chest was glowing too.
Apparently Tora had been staring, because Kaira turned her head towards him and shot him another glare, one that was somehow even angrier than the previous ones. Tora guessed she didn't like him winning or something. He really needed to talk to her and defuse this situation before he earned himself a permanent enemy in his class.
"Alright, Cheikatsu's back in the waking world. That means we can continue with the bouts." The teacher got the attention of the students, including Tora and Kaira. The latter let her glare linger on the former before turning towards the teacher.
"Next up are Netsuka and Denkyuu."
Kaira walked to where her homeroom teacher was standing, followed by Denkyuu. She wanted to get this over with quick. There were other things on her mind and she didn't have time for this right now.
When they stood in position, waiting for Sero's signal, She eyed up her opponent. His most outstanding feature was his hair, which was neon blue and looked like he had just put his fingers in a power socket. He looked relaxed, confident even. A small grin pulling up the corners of his mouth. He wasn't very tall, but his rolled up sleeves showed toned arms. His muscles weren't defined enough to suggest a physical type Quirk, but it was clear he needed hand-to-hand combat to support his Quirk.
As soon as the signal was given Kaira got into a battle stance, ready to take whatever her classmate would try and throw at her.
Denkyuu however, did not get into position, shoving his hands in his pockets and started talking. "Look, I don't know what your Quirk is, but it's clear I've got the advantage here."
Though crude, the rest of the class couldn't say he was wrong. Denkyuu wasn't tall but he stood in the top half of the class judging by height and he looked like he packed a punch. Netsuka, on the other hand, was possibly the shortest person in class and showed no outstanding physical capabilities. Nobody knew what their Quirks were, but in a straight one-on-one it was clear who had the advantage.
"I don't really wanna hurt you on our first day, so how about you just-"
WHAM!
Denkyuu's monologue was interrupted by a sudden fist connecting with his face. He took to the air for a split second and skidded across the courtyard for several more, finally coming to a halt ten feet further.
The class looked in shocked silence at the short girl that had delivered the blow. Nothing on her suggested she had this kind of strength. No defined musculature, no sudden growth anywhere, nothing. Most students had guessed her Quirk was related to her appearance, but increased strength was something no one had seen coming. Only their homeroom teacher, knowing about their Quirks beforehand, had a smirk plastered on his face.
While Denkyuu was recovering from the blow and his less than gentle introduction with the ground, Kaira walked up to him. She pressed her foot on his chest as he was about to get up, pushing him back to the ground. She looked down at Denkyuu, her face tilted slightly upward, giving her a menacing appearance despite her size. The smoke rising from her body and the look of anger she shot at her opponent only amplifying her presence.
"I don't wanna hurt you on our first day, so how about you just surrender." Disdain dripping from every syllable as she repeated his line back at him.
"Okay, okay. I-I-I was j-just bluffing. D-Don't hurt m-me anymore. I surrender!"
Denkyuu's confident attitude had completely evaporated before Netsuka's display, becoming a stuttering mess while trying to get out from under her.
As soon as he surrendered, Kaira released Denkyuu and walked back to their teacher, not giving her opponent another look.
Netsuka's Quirk, it turned out, was called Heat Strength. As her internal temperature rose, she would get stronger and stronger. Despite being heat resistant, there were upper limits to how much she could take before burning out or the temperatures becoming lethal, even for her.
It also became clear why Denkyuu Teiden had tried bluffing his way through this battle. His Quirk, EMP, allowed him to emit electromagnetic pulses that scrambled any type of electronic device. With enough power he could even disable devices protected by a Faraday cage. A useful and powerful Quirk, but not something that could help you against an opponent that sent you flying with one punch.
They were quickly sent back to the group, Denkyuu with a tissue to plug his bleeding nose.
Tora had broken into a cold sweat in the meantime. He really needed to get on Netsuka's good side. He didn't want to find out what would happen if she got really angry. He had to take this carefully though, she clearly had a short fuse and he liked his nose and teeth. This was going to be like navigating a minefield with a countdown connected to the entire thing. He had to be careful, but he had to act quickly before she got too angry about him.
When Netsuka passed Tora, she once again shot daggers at him, but there was more. She was smirking at him. Oh, he didn't like that at all. Had she found something out? Some way she could take revenge for his perceived crime?
A sudden stinging feeling pulled Tora out of his thoughts. With a jump he turned towards the source of the discomfort. Now that the fight was over Tobuga had turned her attention back to him, attending his wounds.
"Oh, sorry. Did I surprise you? I just wanted to make sure you were fully tended to." Tobuga looked genuinely remorseful, as if she had just offended him.
"It's okay. I was just lost in thought. Thank you for looking after me."
Tobuga's guilt quickly melted away and returned to Tora's bruises with a smile, humming a little tune while applying her ointment.
Next up were Mienairu, a short boy with black hair who was clearly very nervous with all these eyes on him, and Tsuchioru, a girl with red hair tied in a short ponytail. Full of energy and big smile, she practically skipped towards the teacher.
Tsuchioru could move through earth and stone at will, which Mienairu quickly identified, ending the match. She then expanded that she left no traces of moving through earth and that she moved a lot faster underground than while running.
Mienairu's Quirk allowed him to shift colours, blending in with his environment and even turning invisible. Changing colours at will gave him plenty more applications for his Quirk, but that was his most comfortable use of it.
Taoshima Fumiko's Quirk was clear to everyone. Instead of hair, she had snakes on her head that proved to be quite the nuisance in a fight, attacking in concert with their owner. Her opponent, Suramu Kana, seemed little bothered by it, using her amorphous body, that she had because of her Quirk, Slime, to twist around and move through her opponent, but over time it became clear that Suramu was getting tired. Her body didn't move as fast, was less flexible and eventually Taoshima managed to get a grip on her and pushed her to the ground.
The battle between Shiryoku and Tsume was over before it even began. Shiryoku guessed that Tsume's Quirk allowed her to extend her nails and use them as weapons before these weapons had been shown. He revealed he knew this thanks to his own Quirk, Future Sight, which allowed him to see three seconds into his own future, at which point she had shown her Quirk.
Next up were Kikai Rika and Kagaku Sakura, whose difference in appearance could not be more stark. Kikai looked as plain as they came, brown, shoulder-length hair, brown eyes, no coloured skin, no appendages… If they weren't in a hero school, you'd guess she was Quirkless. She also looked shy, holding her hands close to her chest and her eyes permanently turned towards the ground.
Kagaku's entire body screamed otherness. While she did have regular, long, pink hair and a normal skin tone, her entire body seemed made out of parts. Along her entire body were lines dividing it. Mostly along joints, but her face had lines dividing it up too. The most obvious one being one that ran under her eyes and over the bridge of her nose, stopping at her cheekbones. She looked like she was made to be pulled apart for maintenance and put back together.
The battle itself was probably the longest of them all. Kagaku was not averse to fighting Kikai, but nothing what she tried seemed to affect Kikai. After the first blow connected and Kikai didn't respond at all, she recoiled slightly, but steeled herself and continued her assault. Meanwhile Kikai seemed reluctant to do anything that might hurt her opponent, mostly blocking Kagaku's blows and gently trying to push her to the ground. In the end, Kagaku was too exhausted to continue and Sero declared Kikai the winner of the bout.
Kikai's Quirk did explain why nothing Kagaku did seemed to affect her. Her Quirk, Iron Skin, made her practically immune to any outside force that would try to harm her.
Technopathy was the name of Kagaku's Quirk. She could 'communicate' with any electronic device when she touched them and control them to an extent. Her explanation did finally get a reaction out of Kikai, who looked surprised and even a bit scared of her classmate.
With Monouki's ability to store items in his body and Gekitai's ability to make two people and/or objects attract or repel each other, neither of them had a way to use their Quirks in the empty courtyard. Their battle turned into a brawl between the two students. After Gekitai eventually punched Monouki to the ground, they both explained what their Quirks did and why they had to resort to fisticuffs.
The penultimate battle, between Kemono and Yamabushi, turned into the one with the most finesse, if somewhat one-sided. Kemono used his Quirk to turn the brown fur his body was covered in into long quills and shot some at Yamabushi. Yamabushi managed to dodge most of them, a few causing minor cuts on his arms. The battle actually started when Yamabushi grabbed two quills from the ground and started wielding them as daggers to attack Kemono with. His speed and expertise with the makeshift daggers surprised both Kemono and the other students. Yamabushi forced his opponent on the defence and did not give him a moment's respite. Kemono's quills provided strong resistance, but keeping his quills hard tired him quickly and soon Yamabushi found an opening. With a swift motion, he swept Kemono of his feet and put the quill-daggers to his throat, signifying victory.
Yamabushi's finesse with the quills, it turned out, was part of his Quirk. Whenever he held an item, he immediately knew how to wield them as weapons, but when the item left his hands, that knowledge was gone as fast as it came, even holding it with less than five fingers erased his ability to wield it.
Unlike most defeated students, Kemono did not look discouraged at all, saying that Yamabushi had already given him an idea how to use his Quirk in a different way than he used to.
At last, only two students remained, Tobuga and Bakujikou. When Sero gave the signal, Bakujikou flicked his wrist to create an implosion in front of him, sucking everything in the vicinity to the epicentre. Tobuga managed to hold her ground, but was pulled off balance. Bakujikou quickly took advantage of the opportunity and moved in to attack. The moth girl saw this coming, however and took flight before her opponent could touch her, leaving a trail of glittering dust behind her.
"Is your Quirk by any chance that you can cause implosions?" She inquired.
"Nope, guess again." With another flick of the wrist, the boy created an explosion of air, instead of an implosion, underneath Tobuga.
The heavy blow of wind blasted Tobuga out of the air, but she turned herself upright before she crashed to the ground. With some quick movements, she fluttered around Bakujikou, trying to find a better position, all the while spreading more dust around.
"Come on, get down here." the grounded student yelled at his classmate. "I can't get… to... you? What is this?"
Bakujikou's attention was drawn away as the dust started to glitter around him.
"Pretty..."
Bakujikou and all the spectating students were enraptured by how the powder was glittering in the sunlight, creating a dance of light. Some students saw figures dance, others saw shapes twist and tangle among themselves, but all were unaware of anything happening around.
"Tobuga has won the round!"
"Wait, how did I end up like this?"
Everyone was pulled out of their fascination by Sero's announcement and a yell of surprise by Bakujikou. Looking back at the field, Tobuga had Bakujikou on the ground with both his arms held behind his back.
Tobuga let go of her victim, cheered and jumped in the air. She quickly turned to Bakujikou, making sure she hadn't hurt him in pushing him to the ground.
"How did you do that?" Bakujikou still wasn't sure of what had happened. "One moment I'm trying to get you out of the air and the next you got me on the ground with my hands behind my back."
"It's a part of my Quirk." Tobuga explained, turning so the other students could listen as well. "As you can see, my Quirk is a mutation type that has given me characteristics of a moth. I can fly, my antennae allow me to sense vibrations in the air and my fluff protects me from cold, if only slightly. Like a moth, my wings are actually made up of tiny scales that refract light and give them the distinct pattern you see." To drive the point home, Tobuga opened her wings, showing the patterns of grey and white. "I can scatter these scales into the air like dust, where they continue to refract light and create a distracting lightshow. If someone is aware of what the dust does though, the effects are significantly decreased, only obfuscating their sight, rather than enrapturing them."
She jumped slightly in surprise and put her hand in front of her mouth.
"Oh, where are my manners? I should introduce myself properly. My name is Tobuga Yui and I live in Tokyo metropolis. Pleasure to meet you." After giving a gracious bow, she turned to Bakujikou.
"So how about your Quirk." Tobuga had her hands behind her and looked at Bakujikou with curious eyes. "You said it's not an implosion and you created a burst of air as well. I'm curious as to what it is."
"Oh, right!" The blonde student started to explain. "My Quirk is called Matter Transfer. I can remove a sphere of any matter within twenty foot of me and then make it appear somewhere else, also within twenty feet of me. Because I remove all matter in that sphere, it's a vacuum. Everything around it gets sucked into the empty space, usually creating an implosion, but it can also cause things to collapse into themselves. When I conjure the matter up again it pushes everything in that space away, causing an explosion of some sorts. I can't hold onto the removed matter for long though, and the more matter I take away, the faster it breaks free."
The last two students returned to the larger group, all awaiting what their teacher had planned next. If this was only the start of their U.A. career, things were bound to get tough.
"Alright, now that you have all been acquainted with one another it's time to-"
Sero was interrupted by his phone going off. He quickly fished it out of his pocket and took a look at who was calling. He sighed and with an exasperated expression on his face answered the call.
"Cellophane speaking… Is this necessary? You know it's the first day of the semester, right?… I see, that bad, huh?… Alright, I'll be there ASAP."
He hung up, sighed once more and turned the his class. "I have some urgent business to attend to. Everyone can go and get dressed, and then go back to the classroom. I probably won't be back today and there are no regular classes scheduled yet, so use the free time to get to know each other better. See ya tomorrow!"
With that short announcement, Sero shot a piece of tape out of his elbow and pulled on it to fly into the air, out of the school grounds towards the city, leaving his students mildly confused, but happy they got the rest of the day off. After many of them had an exhausting morning, they could use some extra rest.
I was originally planning to fully write every fight, but the chapter is long enough as is and that just seemed excessive.
I have a few chapters written out already. I'll be uploading those at a faster pace. After that, things will slow down though.
