A/N: This chapter is rate M because of implied rape and torture.

I duck out of the way of the knife and scramble my way into the kitchen. The man started talking to me.

"So, you're the brat that President Snow sent to kill me. You must be something special to drag me out of that brothel I was enjoying. I was going to have sex with one of the women there, but I'm not beneath taking it from you in place of the women. The only question is whether or not you're still among the living when I do it."

What a charmer. I thought. "What are your plans?" I asked.

"I'm going to have my ways with you since I've been dragged out of that brothel. I've never been with a child, but I'm willing to broaden my horizons." he said.

"I never put out on the first date. And even I did you should at least buy dinner." I said, quoting a few lines I learn from my short times at the Capitol.

"Don't tempt me. Maybe I should leave you alive so I can fully enjoy this. Who knows, maybe you will too." the man said.

"How would I enjoy this?" I asked.

The man didn't answer for a moment because he was walking into the kitchen, so I crawled out of the kitchen. I had grabbed a knife before leaving, but I also left a few cabinet doors open as a distraction. When the moment presents itself, I strike.

While the man was bending down to check a cabinet, I drive the knife into his right knee, with a sickening thud that reverberates through out the house. As he opens his mouth to scream, I hit his jaw with the fire poker. He falls to he unconscious, but I hear the front door fly open and crash against the wall with a loud bang.

"Finnick!" a male voice calls out.

It's Doc. Well, he certainly took his time. I thought.

"Finnick. Are you okay?" he call out again.

"I'm in the kitchen." I said.

I see Doc come walking in a moment later followed by two other men.

"What no kids this time?" I asked.

"Too many, and they would not have been of any use." Doc said.

"You certainly took you're sweet time getting here." I said.

"Well, it seems like you took care of everything." Doc said. Doc turned to one of his men and said. "Take him to the study upstairs."

"Oh, and try not to get the blood stains on the carpet." I said.

"We know how to get blood out of carpet." Doc said, and then followed his men upstairs.

I have no idea what they're about to do, so I grab a pitcher of water, a couple of glasses, and head out to the front porch. I had just sat down on the porch when I heard screaming coming from upstairs. I have no idea what is going on, but I have no intention of inquiring.

At the hour mark, Mags had come out of her house, and made her way over to see what was going on. She must have heard the screaming. I realized that he did hit a few high notes a few moments ago.

"What's going on in th—"

At that moment there was another high pitch scream that cut Mags off which was followed by a loud bang.

"What was—"

"You are so much happier not knowing." I said.

"Want to pour me a glass?" she asked, sitting in the other chair.

"Can do." I said, as I picked up the pitcher and filled the second glass. I place the pitcher back on the table and hand the glass to Mags.

"Thank you." she said, taking a sip.

"You're welcome." I said, also taking a sip.

A few minutes later, we heard footsteps on the stairs. We turn to see the two men that came with Doc leaving the house carrying a long black body. If I had to guess the occupant of said bag is the man who had broken into my house.

"Doc will be down in a moment." said a man who I did not see enter the house.

"Should I drop this off in the Capitol when I get back?" Doc asked, as he exited.

I turned and saw that he was holding my notebook.

"If you know who my mentor is." I said.

"Jade Meadowfall, right?" Doc asked.

"If it isn't much of a bother." I said.

"You got it." Doc said.

Doc and Mags looked at each other. Doc gave Mags a nod and then left. Mags had a shocked look on her face. Doc left without a backward glance.

"Look like you saw a ghost there." I said.

"Maybe I did." she said after the shock wore off.

"You're a victor, and a pretty well known one at." I said.

"Fair enough." Mags said, and we started talking about a hundred different topics.

At that moment, Chrysan walked and asked. "What's going on? I heard some screaming earlier?"

"Nothing of importance. It was a mental ill patient that was taken back." I said.

"Whatever." Chrysan said, and then left.

S.D.D.

Six months later-

It was the morning of the Victory Tour, and I'm dreading going back to Capitol. There have been rumors that Snow found a new person to tail, and I'm not looking forward to hunting this man down for him to be killed. This is going to be a fun time. A silver lining in this whole mess is that my book of poems has been a huge success, and it's going to be a book tour as well as the Victory Tour. Double fun time.

I'm prepping to get into the shower when the doorbell rings. I open the to see Jade and my prep team enter.

Mags was in the living room and greeted the newcomers. I greeted everyone and received a hug from Jade.

"The book is a big hit! The citizens in the Capitol are dying to hear read a few poems, and even get your autograph." Jade said.

"That will be done. If you'll excuse me." I said, and then went to take a shower.

"I heard that Finnick was in the Capitol about six months ago, and he didn't even stop to say hello." Trillium said.

"That's because he was there on business." Mags said.

"What was he doing?" Caspian, Trillium, and Jacinth asked.

"I don't know all the details, and if I was you, I wouldn't ask." Mags said.

"Why not?" the trio asked

"Some questions are better left unasked." Jade said.

"You have an idea?" Mags asked Jade.

"No, but if you say don't ask, you don't ask." Jade said.

"Why not?" Caspian said, truly perplexed.

"Trust me, asking the wrong questions will get you the wrong kind of attention." Jade said.

"That still doesn't answer the question." Jacinth said, and then the trio started talking amongst themselves.

At that moment the group heard the bathroom door open upstairs.

"You almost ready Finnick?" Mags asked.

"Give me a moment." I said, as I walked over to the bedroom.

It was a good thirty seconds before the group heard me say. "I'm ready."

My prep team went upstairs, as Jade and Mags made light conversation. Ten minutes later, Jade was called up to put the finishing touches on me.

A few minutes later, Mags looked out the window to see the camera crews setting up. Mags turned back around, as the curtain fell back into place, to see my team walk down the stairs first. Then Jade came down, with me bringing up the rear. Mags has seen a lot of boys be turned into young men before their time, so she wasn't particularly impressed by the scene in front of her.

"The cameras are waiting outside. Time to get this show in the road." Mags said.

I turn to look at the clock by the stairs and see that it's eleven fifty-nine in the morning. Before I knew it, the clock was chiming signifying that it was twelve o'clock in the afternoon. I walk to the door, put my hand on the knob, but before opening I stop. I turn and to give my team a wink, and then I opened the door and stepped out on the lawn.

There were a million of questions, most of them about my victory. There were a few about my book. The one that stands out was the one that got my attention.

"Mr. Odair! Mr. Odair! Mr. Odair!" one of the women shouted.

"Please, it's just Finnick." I said, addressing her directly.

"There was on particular poem that stands out that has the crowds particularly buzzing." she said.

"Which one is that?" I asked.

"There was one poem that you wrote about a woman of exceptional beauty. Do care to divulge the source of your inspiration?" she asked.

I was about to do so, but I realize the life I've been forced into and thought it best not to tell the country about Scarlet. Who knows what Snow may do to her. "I met the woman in question after my crowning ceremony six months ago. And that's all I can say, but I do want the lovely citizens of Capitol to know that I will be signing books while I'm in the Capitol."

I gave the cameras my usual smile, a wink, and then made my way to the cars at the entrance to the village. When we get to the station there were more cameras waiting. So, we said a few last words, and then we boarded the train.

We the moment we made it to the dining car, I practically fell into the chair.

"Tired already?" Jade asked.

"I'm not looking forward to doing this twelve more times, especially in District's 3 and 5." I said.

"Well enjoy it," Mags said. "Because it only get's harder from here."

Mags was leaving the dining car when I said. "You're the one who has to keep this charade going not me."

"I hate you." Mags said, after turning back to look at me, and then walked out of the car.

I laughed as the door was shutting behind Mags.

"Why is that?" Trillium asked.

"I'm not old enough to be a mentor. And even when I do become of age to be a mentor, I will have other duties to perform." I said, and then got up to leave the room.
