Hi there everyone! Please know that this was written before Monsters University came out. I tried to follow the movie and had rewritten a few chapters around it. Hope you enjoy!

Chapter 18: Tutoring

Randall was feeling very awkward throughout the rest of the day. Everyone was being nice to him and it was just creepy. He wasn't used to this type of treatment, especially from Mike. Sure they had been friends in the beginning of their freshman year of college, but everything changed after he was kicked out of the Scaring program. Since then things hadn't been the same between them and after the Scare Games… it was gone. He tried to warn him about what the rivalry between him and Sullivan would do if they kept at it in the class. He warned him, he did, but Mike was too stubborn to listen to him.

"Hey Randall, do you need anything?" George asked.

Randall stepped back, feeling very uncomfortable. Yes he desired friendship and a father figure, but this wasn't friendship from this. This was friendship out of pity, and he didn't need their pity! And the father figure… he never had that. It was just him, Emilia and Cheryal, and occasionally his jailbird uncle.

"No! I don't need anything from you!" The reptile snapped. "Just leave me alone so I can work!"

He went through a closet door, shutting it behind him as he instantly turn invisible. He went underneath the child's bed, trying to calm himself down before he did something that could end up prematurely waking the child and causing it to alert it's parents. Why did this have to happen? Why couldn't they be friends without pitying him? He wasn't used to this…

After scaring the child and closing the door behind him, he was glad to hear the bell that signaled the end of the day. The lizard monster took off, eager to leave behind his co-workers.

"Man, Randall was acting weird today. You'd think he'd be eager to be more open to us after all this." Seymour replied.

"He's probably not used to it. After all, he probably spent most of his time going through this alone." Jerry answered.

After an hour or two, they all had ended back at Mike and Sulley's apartment. Bob "Gummy Bear" Peterson had taken a hold of the book.

"I'll read this chapter." He told them, taking the book. "Chapter 18: Tutoring.

Mike was a great roommate. He was everything I wasn't. Brave, confident, social… he was amazing except… I didn't really know much about him except that he studied a lot. He knew everything about Scaring! And sad to say… I didn't. Since my parents didn't approve of Scaring, I wasn't allowed to learn it. Even when I was in school, my parents signed me up for classes that didn't involve teaching Scaring. The history, the science, the fundamentals, nothing. And me taking Scaring as a major… I was biting off more than I could chew. I wanted to ask him to tutor me… but I was scared. What if he laughed at me? What if he didn't want to be my friend anymore? I looked at him worriedly. What was I going to do?

"Hey Randy, you okay? You've been kind of fidgety."

"H-huh?" I looked at him. "Wh-What?"

"Are you okay? You don't look so good."

"Um… well… Mike… can I tell you something?"

"Sure." He shut the Scaring book and turned to look at me. "What do you need buddy? Need some help studying? Because if we continue at this rate we can be two semesters ahead!"

"Well um… yes and no about that. You see… " I bite my lip.

How was I going to explain this? Maybe if…

"What is it?" he asked. "You can tell me pal."

"I don't know anything about Scaring!" I blurted out.

He blinked then laughed.

"Sure you do Randy! We've been studying since the classes started."

"No that's not what I meant!" I told him.

He looked at me in confusion. Oh boy… How was I going to make him understand? I played with my fingers, trying to figure out my words.

"Y-You see…" I started. "My parents… my parents don't like scaring… and… I wasn't allowed to learn anything about it… I don't know the history… the science, the people, nothing… I… I don't know Scaring…"

I averted my eyes, embarrassed. What was he going to think of me now? Was he still going to be my friend? Would he tell Professor Knight? Dean Hardscrabble? Would I get kicked out of the program because I refused to learn about Scaring?

"Oh wow… Randy… I had no idea. I mean, how could your parents keep you from learning so important!" He jumped up and grabbed my hand. "We have a lot of work to do!"

"Where are we going?" I asked as he grabbed his backpack and the key to our room and dragged me out.

"The museum of Scaring!"

After a bus ride, he immediately paid for us to go in and showed me around. He instantly started on the history of Scaring as he told me how it developed.

"Welcome to the Museum of Scaring!" He told me dramatically.

"Wow…" I mused looking around with awe.

There were so many things about Scaring I never knew about. I looked at Mike as he started taking me through the tour. I listened in fascination as I looked at the displays for visual guides. Displays of historical figures as Scaring went through transformation over the years was shown, monsters walking around and looking, it was amazing. Sadly we had to leave after two hours, and I had learned so much.

"So what do you think Randy."

"It's amazing!" I exclaimed as we got on the bus. "I never knew there was so much to Scaring!"

"This is just the beginning my friend! I say we make this a permanent thing. I say every day after our classes, we go so you can learn. How does that sound?"

"Perfect! I can't wait!"

"Randy, we have a lot to go over."

I nodded.

As the weeks went on, Mike continued my tutoring. And it was great… until we ended up running into Sullivan at the museum. I gulped in worry. This was not good.

"What are you doing here?" the blue behemoth asked.

"Studying." Mike told him. "What are you doing here?"

"Got a history paper due. Visuals are easier for me."

Mike snorted.

"Come on Randy, we have a lot to go over."

I nodded as I followed him, worried at what would happen. As my recent lesson went on, we ran into Sullivan… again. I looked at Mike, hoping the two wouldn't do anything rash. I clutched my hands together as I watched them. What was I going to do? Confrontation wasn't my thing. I went out to try and pull Mike away, but before I could, Sullivan slipped on a puddle of slime the janitor left behind as he was mopping the floors. He ended up grabbing onto Mike and ended up slinging him into a display. I gasped in horror. I ran over and went over to help him.

"Mike! Are you okay?" I asked.

Just as I was pulling him out, Sullivan came over. I ignored him as I reached over to pull Mike out of the arms of Tomas Scarington. As I managed to grab his hand, we stiffened when he heard a voice.

"Hey! What are you kids doing?"

We looked over and a security guard. I gulped in fear. I drew back. We were in so much trouble. As I started to step up to tell him the truth, Mike grabbed my hand and pulled me away.

"Run!"

"But-!"

I didn't get to finish as he dragged me out of the museum, along with Sullivan beside us. I looked back to see the guard chasing after us. We went through several exhibits, jumping over and moving around other people as we tried to get of the museum and not get caught.

"Get back here!" He called.

As we managed to escape on a bus, the three of us panted as we looked out the window. He waved his club at us.

"You three are banned! If I catch you here again I'm calling the police!"

My eyes widened in horror as the bus pulled away. Banned? Banned!? I have never been banned from anywhere before! I slumped in my seat, clutching my hands together to prevent Mike and Sullivan from seeing them shake. No longer can I go to the museum to learn about Scaring… this could not get any worse…

"This is all your fault!" Mike shouted at Sullivan.

I stood corrected."

"I didn't know Randall had to be tutored for Scaring." Betty mused. "And with you teaching him Mike."

"What happened between you two?" Celia asked her boyfriend.

"It's complicated Celia. What happened to us in college changed us all. And for Randall, big time." Mike answered.

I know that Monsters Inc./University has where Scaring is the main source for power. And with the "dangers" that Scaring risks, I figured Randall's parents, my OCs, as overprotective as they are, would view Scaring as an incredibly dangerous job for him. Hence why they did their best to minimize his schooling on it.

Which didn't work as they planned since we all know how that went!
