Okay guys, I know how you all like this story, but I'm sad to say… it's drawing to a close. Yes, I know, sad times all around, you all have been amazing and I thank you all for the reviews. To all those who want to know, this takes place right before the movie, except this chapter that takes place after movie and the comic books, which I own. Yay me! So if all want to know where the rest of the book took place before the movie, like… a week before, so now I'm sad to give you… the last chapter.
Chapter 25: The End?
The conspiracy of what Randall and Waternoose had done had finally came into the light. They saved a little human girl, managed to keep the company running and found a new way to keep producing energy. Everyone at Monsters Inc. had taken their roles very well, most had mix results, but the switch did very well, numbers were climbing, the company was booming, and everyone was happy. Everyone that was… except for Fungus. And while they hit a few bumps, like Randall coming back from the human world to get revenge, Waternoose breaking out, and a human boy name Sid trying to expose them, but now everything was back to normal, save for Fungus.
The smaller monster constantly went to visit the lizard monster in jail, though most time he was in solitary confinement, not because of he was getting into trouble or anything, but because the human world had messed him so badly in a since that he was panic attacks, or he was in the medical ward because of what the humans did to him. He had gotten to talk to Rhoul, how assured him that no one was bothering the younger monster because he wouldn't allow it.
"Wh-What about E-Emilia and Ch-Cheryal?"
"Nothing so far," The yellow skinned monster replied. "But I'm sure they're just saving money to pay his bail. I've been keeping my eye on Waternoose. He comes near my nephew, he's going to regret it."
Fungus' eyes widen in worry.
"Has he tried anything? You know, to Randall?"
"I'm making sure he doesn't. He may be Mr. Rich and powerful in the outside world, but in here, this is my turf, and no one tries to take over my turf."
Fungus nodded, conflicted that he should glad that Rhoul was a well-known criminal here, or the fact that he should be concerned that he was well-known there.
"Do you know when they'll come?"
"Last I heard from them, they got half the dough. That crab really screwed him, and no one messes with my little nephew and gets away with it. I've been making sure he gets the worst jobs here."
"You're able to do that?"
Rhoul smirked, leaning back in the chair.
"Of course I am, I've been in and out of this place since before you were born. I've made my mark here. Everyone knows what I'm capable of, even the guards respect me here. Visiting hours are almost up. I'll tell the kid you visited."
"Th-Thank you…"
"I'll see you next time Funkster."
"You too, bye."
Fungus sighed as he walked out. He was really hoping to talk to Randall, but of course, Rhoul was the closest thing that he could get. He still didn't know how the older monster managed to get Randall to become his cellmate, but he wasn't going to press, but whatever it was, it was something he didn't want to know.
Sulley was going through some of his things when he noticed a black book that fell off the bookself. Picking it up, he opened it and remembered when they found the book. It was Randall's. He forgotten all about giving it back to him. He made a note to give it back to Fungus. Curious to what the rest of the book held, he flipped to the chapter that they were supposed to get to before the events that occurred.
"Here it is chapter twenty f-" he paused when he saw a blank page.
There was no chapter twenty-five. The rest of the pages were blank. He flipped back through the pages, relearning of what happened to Randall, when he stopped. There was his parents' address. Feeling the need to give the parents closure of what happened, he wrote down the address and left a note for Mike, who was out on a date with Celia.
As he made it over to the address that was supposedly belonging to the parents of his once fierce rival. A knock on the door later, and the door opened to reveal a ten foot brown furred female monster.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Um… hi, I'm-"
"Mr. James Sullivan. Yes, I heard about you, when you took over the Monsters Inc. a while back."
"Um… yes."
"Emilia Boggs," she replied, shaking his hand. "What can I do for you Mr. Sullivan?"
"Well uh… can I come in? There is something that I need to talk to you about."
She stepped aside and let him in.
"Please, have a seat Mr. Sullivan. Can I get you a glass of lemonade?"
"Yes. Thank you."
While she went into the kitchen, he took the opportunity to look around the house. He saw a lot of family pictures Randall and his parents. He didn't think that such a monster could come from such a family. Of course he should've known from college. Guilt ate at him more. For all these years those two were probably worried sick about their son and what did they do? Took the law in their own hands and illegally banished him. For all they knew being trapped in the world could've had a mental effect on him. It was rare for monsters to come back from the human world, but those who did ended up having gone crazy due to surviving in the human world.
"Here we are!" Emilia chirped as she brought a tray of lemonade in and setting it on the coffee table. "Help yourself. So what did you want to talk about?"
She sat down in the white and rose floral chair as she looked at him. He took a hold of the lemonade, running a claw around the rim of the glass, unsure how he was supposed to do this. How can you tell the mother of someone who was put in jail that he was in there because of you? And that you didn't even bother to listen to why he did something so horrible.
"Well uh… it's about… it's about… Randall…"
"What about him?" she asked, sitting more upright.
He looked into her eyes. Sadness, disappointment, hurt, love…. All those emotions shown in her crystal blue eyes. He spent that last year or two building up the company and focused on himself than realizing that a family was suffering. A family that belonged to his once Scaring rival. He told himself he wouldn't be so selfish as he was when he was younger but here he was again, doing another selfish act of hiding the truth from the very monsters that needed to understand what had happen to their son. They didn't even bother to let Fungus speak up on behalf of the lizard monster despite his protests. They just brushed it off as Randall manipulating and threatening the smaller monster. How could he had let such a horrible act go on?
"Well… Mrs. Boggs… what do you know what happened at the factory?"
"About that human kid getting out? Yes. I remember that, what about it?"
"Well… um… do you know why your son was involved?"
She sighed and sat her glass down.
"I don't know all the details and most people won't believe me. But will you at least hear me out Mr. Sullivan?"
"O-of course…"
Oh glob… what was she going to do to him? Was she going to chew him out on sending her poor little boy to jail? For sending him to the human world without even a proper trial? He gulped as he looked at her. What was she going do?
"Randall is a good boy. In all my years of raising him he could never do anything so horrible." She picked up a small framed photo of an eight year old Randall wearing a red cap that was turned backwards, that was sitting on the small desk stand. "He was always so sweet and thoughtful. He was very skittish when it came to people. You don't know how many times he would come home with bruises and cuts and occasionally a broken bone or two from the older kids in his grade picking on him. It's always been so hard for him to make friends. Being so young, so smart… and so sickly."
Sulley mentally winced. When they were working, they too ridiculed him behind his back. He remembered back in college when all the young lizard wanted was to make friends and what did they do? They continue to taunt and laugh at him. They drove him to this point. They made him feel like he couldn't go to anyone when he needed someone to listen to him. How was he going to make this right?
"I don't believe Randall was the so called "mastermind" like everyone claims he is." She continued. "Just because he's a reptile, doesn't mean he's bad. It's so repulsive on how narrow-minded monsters are. Just because he made a bad choice in judgment doesn't mean he is bad. Do you know I have some neighbors think that he's nothing but evil?"
Sulley looked at her in surprise.
"Nothing but… even when he was a kid?"
"Even when he was a kid. It's absolutely ridiculous! A monster isn't born evil! And my sweet innocent little boy, treated like a criminal just because he's different!" She shook her head. "There is no way Randall would do such a horrible thing, unless someone made him. And I don't buy the whole "innocent elderly" act that Waternoose was pulling at the trial."
"You saw that?" he winced.
If she saw that did she see what he and Mike said about Randall?
"I saw it on the news. My boy isn't as bad as you people made him out to be. And I don't appreciate what your little friend said about him. My partner and I were going to sue you and your friend, but we didn't want to make a giant spectacle out of it."
He paled. Sue? They were going to sue him and Mike? Of course they were… they had every right to.
"How about we settle this here?" he asked, wanting to make sure that they got the justice they deserved and Randall could tell him what really happened to why he did what he did.
"Now? Well, alright."
"What are you offering?"
"Well we would like that you would help pay for his therapy and medical bills."
"I can do that." He nodded. "Do you want help with his bail?"
"Oh no, we couldn't ask that of you. We're saving up for it."
"How much are you till you meet it?"
"Well… we're a couple hundred short."
Sulley nodded. Pay for his therapy and medical treatment, that was easy. And if they just needed to a couple of hundred to bail him out…
"How much exactly?"
"Six hundred."
"I'll give it to you."
Her eyes widen in surprise. She didn't expect such a generous offer from him. All she wanted was just to have him heal the damage that he caused her son, bailing him out… she felt that was hers and Cheryal's job. True they haven't visited him yet… mostly due to Cheryal being so mad that she probably would end up punching out a guard if he said the wrong thing, but while they were upset and disappointed at him, they still loved him.
"That's so generous Mr. Sullivan."
"It's the least I can do, just… after some time… can I talk to Randall? You know to understand him more."
"I think that sounds reasonable."
"Great! I'll stop by the bank and get the money for you."
"Sounds good and thank you so much Mr. Sullivan."
"It's not a problem," he smiled.
The sunlight streamed through the bar window of a prison cell. A lone monster was doing pushups at his eyes trained on the photo of a young boy. His dark brown fur almost looking black among the shadows of his cell. Sweat pour from his brow as he continued his work out. He was going to find the one that put him in here. The one that sealed his fate. The one that had caught his eye. He stood up and grabbed the hold of the picture. He ran a claw over it.
"I will find you again. And this time… you will not escape from my grasp."
Get ready folks, you're in for a wild ride! Beware of the warnings. They're there for a reason.
