Chapter Six — Saturdays are the Best
Blue let out a groan, complaining about last night again. "Argh! I can't believe that happened!"
After she went back to her screen, the game was under maintenance and updates, so her match with Leaf was postponed and she didn't get to battle like him like she wanted to. She couldn't even message him because the messenger feature was also through the game, so it didn't work.
"You can battle with Leaf next time," Yellow told her, trying to think optimistically. "Game maintenance usually takes 24 hours."
"Ugh, you're right," Blue mumbled, still clearly upset. At least she stopped throwing a tantrum.
"Hey Big Sis and Yells!" Gold interrupted their conversation and breakfast, suddenly bursting into the dining room with Silver following behind. He swung over to the cabinets and took Silver's rental car keys, acting like it was his own apartment. "Me and Silv are going to shoot some hoops. We'll be back soon!"
"Give me my keys. If you crash my car with your crazy, jacked up driving, I will mess you up," Silver threatened, holding his hand out for them.
"What are you talking about, Silv? I can drive my motorcycle perfectly, so that means I can drive your car perfectly too," Gold told him, twirling the keys around his finger.
While Silver owned a rental car (that he may or may not have stolen under someone else's name), Gold owned a motorcycle. Gold's motorcycle was at his and Yellow's dorm, and of course, Silver refused to wrap his arms around Gold's body and be anywhere close to him.
"Last time, you almost ran over that old hag Kimberly who lives downstairs and you managed to set her on fire. Give me it now," Silver demanded, still holding his arm out.
Gold shrugged it off, not caring and continued to tease him by not giving him the keys.
"I'll tell that girl Crystal that you lied about having a cellphone." That one line made him immediately hand over the keys to Silver.
"You lied to Crystal about having a phone?" Blue asked, eavesdropping on their conversation. "Why?"
It was just weird to lie about such a thing. Phones weren't really a big thing anyways since everyone was busy doing their programs or hanging out, so it was common for lots of people to not have one at this academy. If you're caught with it in class, you can get it taken up for a fine, which proves to be another reason why students don't bother to have them. Technically, Gold has a phone, but he didn't pay for a SIM card because he didn't want to pay for a plan, so it can't really call or be of use without WiFi. Though it was officially a phone that can be used, it was more like an iPod if anything.
"I didn't lie," he clarified. "I'm going to get a phone, soon." Because of his and Yellow's family financial issues, they didn't have much money for luxuries. It costs a lot to attend and pay for the dorm and food even with the scholarship they both have.
Yellow looked at him with a surprised look that was followed by an arched eyebrow. "You got a new job, Gold?"
For the past month, to afford things, Gold had been working as a construction worker and a firefighter apprentice (which he lied to the firefighters about his dreams about being one to get the spot) who still gets paid. He also babysits sometimes, and helps kids in little league sports for money. His jobs call him randomly when they need him, so technically they weren't really permanent and very spontaneous. It was harder for him to go to them too now that he's doing the after school punishment and the Prodigy Program. Sometimes, Yellow worries about him taking all those jobs. She had a part-time job as a waitress too, but it wasn't too much on her and she only worked three days a week to make enough for food.
Gold smirked, raising his head in pride. "Yeah," he replied. "I got a job at some daycare. They're going to pay me twice as much as the firefighter apprentice thing, so I can finally quit burning myself."
"Oh! That's great," Yellow mused for her cousin. "You're great with kids, so it should be easy for you too."
Well, she says great, but honestly she never really saw him interact with kids.
"I'm leaving," Silver announced, not caring at all for Gold's new job.
"Hey, wait Silv!" Gold called behind him, grabbing his coat and following the redhead out the door.
"Ooh, since those two went out, we should go out too!" Yellow suggested. "You want to go try the new bakery down the street? I heard there's a grand opening from a classmate in my art class."
Hearing this, Blue lit up and beamed at the blonde. "Yes, of course! I haven't been to one in so long," she replied excitedly, clasping her hands together. "Let's go get ready, then go at thre—"
—DING-DONG!
A loud song resonated throughout the dorm, cutting Blue off.
The brunette got up from her seat and rushed over to the door. "Ah! It's probably the package I ordered last month! I've been waiting for it for over a month!"
Yellow got up as well and followed her, wiping her hands with the napkin to clean.
When Blue swung the door open, she was met with familiar people. The two boys standing in her doorway were a cheery raven-haired boy and his stoic brunet friend in mailman-like matching outfits. Sounds familiar. Actually, looks familiar too. It was none other than Red and Green who she had just seen yesterday.
"Oh, hey Blue! I totally didn't know that you live here!" Red greeted, a few seconds later after recognizing her wearing glasses.
Because she disliked wearing her contacts at home, she would take them off at home and wear giant black rimmed glasses instead. Of course she looked different, but not that different.
Blue immediately slammed the door in their faces, not wanting them to see what she was wearing. Her glasses were something she didn't want people to see. Actually, her whole outfit was something she didn't want them to see. She was dressed in her skim pajamas with her brown hair in a messy bun, along with her naked face. Though she was confident that she was stunning, with or without makeup, and she was proud of her body, she wasn't in the mood for people from her school seeing her in this ensemble. Those two were extremely popular, and despite Red's outer cheery self, he could be one of those gossipy grandmas at the salon. As for Green, she just didn't want the jerk to see her because she thinks that he could secretly be a pervert. You never know what people could be hiding inside.
"What was that?"
Yellow called from behind her, arriving late at the scene. Blue's eyes looked Yellow's appearance up and down. A pikachu T-shirt, Gold's old black basketball shorts, her blonde hair down and messy— basically, nothing exposed. Compared to Blue's tank top that showed her breasts and her extremely short shorts, Yellow was quite modest. Perfect.
Blue batted her eyelashes at the blonde, earning a scared and suspicious look. "Can you please get my package for me, dear Yellow? I forgot I'm exposed in my pajamas, and I don't want the mailmen to see."
Yellow arched an eyebrow at her, wondering what she was up to. "... Sure," she replied, falling for it, though suspicious. Blue never really cared much about showing the outline of her body to anyone, so she wondered why the brunette suddenly cared.
DING-DONG!
They rang the doorbell again. Instead of getting it, Blue gestured the blonde towards the door. Seeing that Blue had a valid reason, she went to open the door.
"Hey Blu— Yellow?" Red said, confusion in his voice. He barely recognized Yellow because of her hair again. A small blush went across his face, reminded of yesterday's incident. He quickly smiled at her to wave it away when he realized she was staring at him. "Oh hey! Are you and Blue roommate or something?"
She felt her face heating up and turning twelve different shades of red, partially embarrassed that he saw her in her messy pajamas. She didn't even get to comb her hair and with Gold's hand-me-down clothes, she looks like a little boy who just woke up.
Before she could respond or reply, Green cut in, "Red, we don't have time for chit-chat. We already wasted enough time when that pesky woman shut the door in our faces."
Green held a clipboard and pen to her. "We need you to sign for this package so we can move on."
"Ah yes," Yellow mumbled. She put her head inside the house to talk to Blue, who was hiding behind the door. "Blue, they need you to sign."
Blue let out a sigh, grumbling something about how Green had totally ruined the mood between Red and Yellow. She took off her glasses and hung them on her tank top then used Yellow's petite body to cover her outfit.
"Hand me the clipboard," she told him, holding out her free hand.
Green didn't say anything else and handed her it. Blue was about to quickly sign it, but suddenly, she had an amazing idea pop inside her head. The three gave her confused (Green's confusion was mixed with annoyance) looks when the brunette suddenly paused and froze in place. There was a moment of silence where they just all stared at her, with Red glancing at Yellow a couple times since it was rare for her to not have her hat on.
"Just hurry up and sign it, so we can leave," Green growled, upset at the stalling.
"Hm..." she hummed, her face looking deep in thought. "Just give me a minute, I'm thinking how I should write my signature. Print, cursive, or maybe scribbles? Or should I try a new style and test it out now?"
Green's vein popped out, and Yellow got worried for Blue. She knew he had no patience with this kind of stuff.
"Just print it," he said, resisting the urge to strangle her.
"Wait! But if I do that, then it wouldn't look as nice, y'know?" Blue whined as she waved the pen around through her slender fingers. Though they didn't know, she thought it would be hilarious to tease him and mess around.
"Then sign cursive," Green insisted, his eye twitching.
"No, but then it'll be too fancy. This is just getting mail, it's not like an autograph!"
His eye twitched again and he gave her a deeper glare. It was obvious: he wanted to punch the girl. He wasn't afraid of hitting a girl either. Last year, he punched the dorm owner, Kimberly, because she kept hitting him with her stick. Kimberly was not only a girl, but an elderly too. That said a lot about Green's morals.
"Just sign the stupid paper," Green said at the same time as Red chimed, "Take your time, Blue!"
Green turned to his friend, giving him an unbelievable look. "What are you doing? We're already late on the next delivery," Green chided, not finding him helpful. Leave it to Red to do things.
Before Red could explain himself, Blue interjected, "Hey speaking of which, why are you guys working anyways? I thought your grandpa is the principal so you can live in dorms for free, and Red earned his winnings from the Prodigy Competition last year, so he could pay for his own stay."
The Prodigy Competition was a tournament that their school held to make sure all the students in the program stayed competitive. They usually hold the event once a year, and every student in the program is forced to compete with their classmate who was in the same section. For sports, it was very different because they were on the same team, so they usually split the team into two different teams that plays against each other. Because there are still teams and no individual winner, the teachers get to choose the MVP or the best player of the winning team. Blue remembered watching the football section go against each other because she wanted to support Silver. Green usually won the competitions, but this year, he was a part of the losing team, and Red had ended up winning the prize money with that win.
Red smiled sheepishly, kind of getting embarrassed. "Well... actually, I did pay in advance for my stay in the dorms for a whole year with that money, so my rent is safe. I got this job because I bought a new game system with the leftover money and ended up running out early. Hopefully, I can win it again next year!"
"Who says you're going to win it?" Green questioned from the side, still upset at him winning. It was all Gold's fault in his opinion that he lost. That junior always dragged him down somehow. "Last year was a fluke. I'm going to crush you."
Red became quite competitive, his eyes burning up in excitement at his friend's remark. "Not if I beat you up first," he said, still smiling but more menacing. Though smiling, Red seemed to be intimidating.
The two girls sweat dropped, noticing the sparks coming off of Green and Red. Both of them were really competitive when it came to competitions like this, despite being on the same team.
"So... continuing," Blue cut into their little rivalry and made her presence known again. "You're working because you need food after running out of money?"
Green and Red shifted their attention from each other to the girls, the competitive sparks disappearing.
"We just want some extra disposable cash. I want to buy more accessories for my new game system, and Green wants to buy one too, but his grandpa won't pay for it, so he's earning it himself," Red explained. "I need money for food too, of course."
"Oh," Blue mouthed.
Not going to lie, she was surprised that the both of them were gamers, knowing their reputation as the "dreamy football players", or whatever their fan girls called them around school. Maybe Red was fine, but it was hard to imagine Green playing video games when he seems to be the uptight guy who is always acting like he's the greatest and perfect (or in Blue's opinion anyways).
"Hurry up and sign the paper. We've been here for five minutes already," Green snapped.
"Fine," Blue mumbled, looking down and signing the paper. She held them against their will long enough. Well, not long enough in her opinion, but she knew this was cutting into their paycheck for food, and even Blue wasn't that cruel to make them starve.
"Thanks for the package, boys!" she said, handing the clipboard over.
After receiving the clipboard in his hands, Green took this chance to leave before she can do anything else to them. Red was about to follow him, but he happened to glance at Yellow once more. That glance evolved into a stare when he couldn't stop looking at her.
"Oh! Yellow! I finally remembered what I forgot to ask you last time! What's your online name for Pokérune?" Red inquired.
"Uh—"
"—Red, we're late. Let's go."
Ruining the mood again, Green came back and started to drag Red away. As he was being dragged away and the girls watched him, he shouted out, "So I'll see you two later? Hope we have classes on Monday when the second semester starts! Nice shirt!"
Yellow gave him a nervous smile as she waved bye to him, while Blue stood behind her, having mixed feelings about this. Did she love how her best friend was progressing with her crush? Yes. But did his buzzkill friend have to interrupt? Of course not! Well, though no words were exchanged on Yellow's end, Blue still called this a win for her. She was totally going to get payback later though. His irritated face was always amusing to her.
"Oh no!" Yellow cried, snapping Blue out of her thoughts.
"What happened?" she asked worriedly.
Yellow buried her face in her hands. "Red saw me in this!" She yanked her pikachu T-shirt to show what she meant.
Blue can kind of see why she's embarrassed since it's considered nerdy or dorky, but technically, Red seemed like a dork too since he complimented it and asked for her online name. He was obviously a gamer, and she was too, so it didn't really matter in Blue's opinion.
"I don't think you have anything to worry about," Blue assured her friend, giving her a hand on her shoulder for comfort.
"Why don't we go to that bakery you mentioned?"
"I can't believe I have to run errands for Palmer on a Saturday," Pearl grumbled his complaint.
The chubby raven-haired boy calmly gave him a smile and continued to enjoy his ice cream. "Why do you call your dad, Palmer? Didn't he want you to call him 'daddy'?"
Palmer was Pearl's dad, but the blond wanted to put a distance between his coddling, so he retorted to calling him by his first name ever since he hit puberty. Diamond thought Pearl's little rebellion was kind of funny because his dad would overreact and beg him to call him 'daddy'.
Pearl let out a groan. "Don't even get me started about that..." he muttered. "Speaking of parents, I wonder why your mom called you."
Diamond shrugged indifferently. "She just said she needed me. If she wants me to go to her store, she probably wants me to help out," he concluded, guessing.
"Geez, we have it hard with our parents, huh?" Pearl commented.
The two friends continued to walk together and make small conversations until they reached Diamond's destination, which is his mom's music store. They stood in front of the place, giving goodbyes to each other before parting ways. Diamond entered the shop with his ice cream cone in a firm grip. He felt the cool air rush to hit his face and heard the bell near the door go off.
DING-LING!
Casually, he strolled through the store and made his way over to a lady with bright blue hair behind the counter. She seemed to be too occupied with the customer to even notice the boy, and after ringing them up and sending them away with a smile, she finally realized his presence.
DING-LING!
"Dia!" she exclaimed, going around the counter to give the boy a big hug. "It's been awhile since you visited! How are you and your team?"
"I'm great!" Diamond replied, careful not to drip his ice cream on her when returning the hug. "Our team has been winning the season and doing amazing!"
"That's good to hear," his mother remarked, giving the boy a smile. "I'm sorry to leave so soon, but I need you to man the store while I head out to buy more strings for the instruments! I'll be back quickly, I promise!"
"Go ahead and take your time, I'm chilling," Diamond reassured, giving his ice cream another lick.
"Thanks Dia!" His mom planted a kiss on his cheek before heading out.
DING-LING!
Diamond slid behind the counter to man the place. He eyed the instruments on the wall with a blank, bored stare, shoving the last of his ice cream cone into his mouth. There was no one in the store, and the store music filled the void of silence.
DING-LING!
"Mmm!" Diamond turned around to finish eating his ice cream. It would look bad to eat on the job.
After he finished, he whirled back around and greeted the customer with a smile. "Welcome—" He stopped mid-sentence when he recognized the customer who entered the store. "—Missy?"
"Ooh~! Gimme! I want to see!"
The brunette was curious as to what her twin sister was doing on the emergency phone they shared. It was rare for Crystal to be using their emergency phone during a non-emergency, so of course, Soul had to be nosy. She couldn't lecture her after the stunt she pulled in the elevator when she drained the battery. When Crystal ignored her and pushed her away, she decided to do another alternative.
"AHAHAHA!"
And that was tickling her sister.
When Crystal's guard was down, Soul immediately snatched the phone from her hand.
"Hey Soul!" Crystal exclaimed after she stopped laughing. "Give it back!"
When it came to strength and speed of the two, Crystal was always on top (especially since she's in the program for physical talent rather than academic like Soul), so she ended up snatching it back successfully. Unfortunately, Soul had quickly read a good portion of the conversation before she was stopped.
"Ooh! You're texting Awesome again? Aren't you the romantic!" Soul squealed, teasing her sister.
'Awesome' was a nickname for 'Awesomeofall_01', a player in the same online group as the twins. Awesome would hang out or play with Crystal quite often, and they would share with each other a lot through the chatroom messaging feature of the game. It was down for awhile because of maintenance, but they finally at least fixed that part.
"You know, Awesome could be female," Crystal mentioned, shrugging off Soul's assumption that Awesome was a male in the first place.
"He's totally a guy, and I totally know that he's totally into you," Soul told her.
Crystal rolled her eyes at how she said 'totally' three times in a sentence. "Soul, I don't know what's up with you sometimes— Ah!"
She was cut off when she felt her body collide with someone else's. The collision made her drop her phone onto the floor and land her bottom on the hard concrete.
"Ow..." Crystal muttered, quickly grabbing her phone and checking for damages. Luckily, there were none.
"I'm sorry! I was in a rush!"
She looked up to see a hand offered by the stranger who bumped her. Looking up more, she realized it belonged to a familiar brown-haired boy.
"Oh? It's you!"
"Black!" she cried, taking the hand to boost herself up. Immediately, she tackled him with a warm hug, welcoming him. Soul followed as well, wrapping her arms around the two once she recognized him.
The brunet stumbled back a bit by the force of the twins. "Hey! I didn't think I'd run into you randomly like this!"
Black was Crystal's and Soul's younger brother. All of them are adopted by their parents, but they held a close relationship as children. Black ended up separating from the twins early on when he went with their uncle to run a business in America. He's very young, but he's very smart and qualified to be the next CEO of their uncle's company, so their uncle took him under his wing. It was rare to see him in the streets of Japan all of a sudden.
"What are you doing here?" Crystal asked after releasing the hug.
"Oh, I'm here meeting with the CEO of the BW Agency for business!" Black answered. "I was going to visit your dorm after, of course."
Soul deflated, looking unhappy with his reason. She knew he would be focused on the business more than actually spend time with them.
"That's boring," she remarked, earning a look from Crystal.
Black shrugged his shoulders. "Hey, what can you do? I have to be good at negotiation if I'm going to take uncle's spot," he told her. "I'm supposed to be heading to a business meeting at some cafe with the CEO of the BW Agency right now! I wonder why she would pick such a public place."
"Ooh, it's a female CEO?" Soul piped up, taking interest.
Crystal shot her another look and nudged her to stop asking while Black just nodded, not taking the hint Soul was giving.
"Ow!" she cried out loud when she got nudged. "What was that for, Crys?!"
"Don't meddle in businesses that aren't yours," Crystal sternly chided, earning a grunt from Soul.
She looked over to her baby brother with a softer expression. "It was nice to see you again! Make sure you call me before you come so I can whip up your favorite dishes!"
"Of course!" Black chirped happily.
"Yeah! Come over soon after you meet up with your lady friend!" Soul told him, slightly teasing him.
At the mention of the 'lady friend', Black just remembered he was late for meeting. "Oh! That's right, I'm so late! I gotta go guys! Love ya, see you two later!" he said frantically, giving them another hug before running off quickly in another direction.
The two sisters watched him run off into the distance, his figure getting smaller.
"He's so fast," Soul remarked.
"I hope he slows down. He might hit someone again," Crystal muttered, sighing. "Let's hurry up and get the groceries. It's getting dark."
"Oh yeah," Soul mumbled, remembering their purpose of going out.
"We can go now," Crystal told her sister, gesturing her head over to the light when she saw the pedestrian symbol to cross the street lit up.
"Silv, you could've totally made that!"
Gold made a complaint about Silver's driving when Silver began to slow down at the yellow light. He was so used to just speeding by with his motorcycle that Silver's slow driving pissed him off.
"See? This is why I didn't let you drive, you idiot. Clearly, you don't know that the yellow light means to slow down," Silver grumbled, clearly annoyed with his nitpicking. This wasn't the first time Gold was a backseat driver.
He glanced over to the boy who was on his phone. "Hey, what are you doing? Put that away, I can't drive with something distracting me."
Gold ignored him and just held his phone in the air and out the window. "I'm trying to text Capturer right now, but I can't seem to get a WiFi signal from any of the cafes in the area."
"I said to put it up. I can't focus on driving when you have that thing out," Silver told him.
Gold gave him a look. "How is this distracting? I'm not even shining it on your eyes."
"It just is. Now put it up," Silver demanded, trying to grab it himself.
"Hey!" Gold cried, moving it out of his reach. He quickly tried to change the redhead's attention to the front. "The light is green! Go!"
Silver clicked his tongue and pulled his hand back onto the steering wheel, immediately going before he got honked at. While he was driving, he glanced over to Gold when he heard the sound of the wind coming into the car. The raven-haired boy was yet again, trying to find a signal.
"I told you to put that up!" Silver yelled at him, grabbing onto his jacket sleeve and yanking it.
"Hey stop!" Gold shouted back, trying to break his grip.
"Ugh!" Silver groaned, yanking even harder and looking at the boy.
"Silv! Red light! Stop, stop!" Gold yelled out in horror, frantically pointing at the front.
Silver returned his attention to driving and saw two girls crossing the street at a red light. Immediately, he stomped on the breaks as hard as he could, making the car jerk forward and Gold fly towards the windshield due to not properly wearing a seat belt. He wasn't the only one injured in this whole incident. Silver was sure he felt a bump and heard a shriek when he slammed the breaks. When he only saw one of the two girls standing, he cursed under his breath.
"Ouch!" Gold groaned, rubbing his nose that got smashed.
Taking out his anger on his friend, he punched him in the arm. "This is all your fault, Gold! I swear if I killed that person, it's on you!"
"Stop hitting me!" Gold replied, hitting him back in the arm. They would've started a whole fist fight if it wasn't for the fact that they're in the car and they almost killed someone. Silver was about hit him back regardless of that fact, but he halted when he saw the person get up.
"Look, she's not dead!" Gold exclaimed, pointing at them. Now clearly looking at them, the boys finally recognized the pair of twins from the detention.
"Hey, is that super serious gal and her sis?"
Crystal grabbed her sister's arm with a worried expression and helped her get up, while Soul just looked straight up pissed off, reasonably so since she was the one Silver had hit. The two expected the twins to chew them out for the incident, but instead of yelling, to Silver's horror, Soul raised her leg and smashed it against his car. He couldn't see the damage, but he was pretty sure there was a dent now.
While Silver and Gold sat there with frozen expressions, Soul yelled at them, "LEARN HOW TO DRIVE YA DUMBASSES!"
Silver grabbed his red locks in distress before putting the car in park so he can get out. He muttered at least five different curse words as he hurriedly left the car to see the damage. Once he did, he fell to his knees and sulked just thinking about the repairs. It was a rental car that he stole too, so there was no way he could just waltz up to the auto shop and fix it like that without getting it traced back to the company. He would probably have to pay extra to get it fixed under the table.
He got up off the floor and immediately turned his anger to Soul. "Look what you did?! You know how much I have to pay for this piece of junk now?!"
Though the car was trashy, he still cherished it because it was free. Carjacking without getting caught was very difficult.
Soul's jaw dropped, shocked that he would get mad at her after what he did. "I can't believe you have the audacity to say that after what you just did!" she screamed at him, placing her hands on her hips. "Look, I'm bleeding, and this is how you treat me!"
She showed her blood smeared hands and pointed at her forehead that got scraped when she fell. The car didn't really do so much body damage that could happen. The force shoved her to the floor, so basically, minimal damage. That scrape that was barely a scrape made Silver more upset that she was making such a big deal out of a small injury.
Gold made his way out of the car too and saw the injury. "It's good you didn't get hurt badly!"
This comment irked Soul, and she was about to retort until Crystal grabbed her.
"Oh my gosh, Soul, are you okay?!" Crystal cried worriedly, getting out something to wipe the blood off her sister's forehead.
"Thank you Crys, you're the only one who cares about me in this world!" Soul said loudly to use her as an example of how a normal person should react.
Crystal turned to the two boys, just as much as upset as Soul, if not more. "You two should've been more careful! It could've ended up worse!" she scolded them.
"Hey! Silv was the one on the wheel! Why am I getting blamed for this?!" Gold yelled in protest, pointing a thumb at the redhead, who shot a glare his way.
Before Silver can properly defend himself, Crystal began to drag Soul away. "C'mon Soul, let's get that checked out," she said, pulling her sister to the sidewalk gently. As they were walking away, the blue-haired girl glanced at the pair like they were dirt and kept muttering something about delinquents.
"Great," Silver mumbled sarcastically, still frustrated with the damage his car took from Soul's kick.
Gold placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Well, if it makes you feel better, this is the longest you talked to a girl who wasn't your sister or my cousin."
Without saying a word, Silver shot a glare his way before pummeling his friend in the middle of the road and starting a fight. Gold tried to defend himself and punch back, and the two continued despite the numerous car honks coming from behind.
"Sparkles, ya there? Hellooo?" Sapphire called out, adjusting her microphone of her headgear.
Her eyes flickered to the screen when she saw a ralts icon pop up and was notified that 'BeautifulSparkles_114 had joined the call'. Seeing it, she grinned in excitement. Sapphire thought she'd spend her Saturday night playing Pokérune since it's been awhile and she got free time from her studies (not that she studies anyways). She wanted to play earlier, but had to wait till repairs were done, so in the meantime, she was texting her friend Sparkles for awhile. Well, that ended briefly since she hates reading, so they switched over to voice call while they wait.
[I'm here, what's up?] A softer, high pitched voice came from the other side.
"Hello!" she greeted again, more perky. "It sucks that the game is down when I finally want to play!"
A groan came from Sparkles. [Ugh. I agree! I thought I would steam off some stress by playing today.]
"Tell me 'bout it," Sapphire replied, rolling her eyes just thinking back to yesterday's incident with Ruby. "Talkin' an' playin' with ya makes me feel better!"
[I feel the same way! Oh my gosh, I literally had the worst day yesterday, you couldn't believe it!]
"No way! Me too!" she said. "Wow, what a coincidence!"
[You cannot believe it, Sapphoro! This rude person kept yelling at me all day and I got drenched in mud because of them!]
Sapphire opened her mouth to gape. "Are ya gettin' bullied or somethin'?!" she immediately assumed, wondering why her friend was getting harassed.
[Basically! No matter how much I talk to that person, they won't listen to me!]
"Sparkles! Ya need ta stan' up for yourself! Ya can't keep letting them do this ta ya! I know how ya feel, I have a person like that too!" Sapphire exclaiming, thinking about Ruby.
[Ugh. Why do people keep harassing us?]
"I wonder that all the time too," she grumbled. "We should unite and get 'em back together. I bet we can end 'em!"
A giggle came from the other side of the headgear. [We honestly should. Too bad you're in Osaka.]
"What? I'm not in Osaka," Sapphire informed.
[Oh! I just kind of assumed because of your accent!]
Sapphire's countryside slang and pronunciations was a common trait of Osaka people's speech, so it wouldn't be weird to assume she was from there.
"Nah, I moved ta Tokyo awhile ago for my papa's work!" she clarified.
[Oh, really? That's cool, I live in Tokyo too!]
"Wow! We should meet up one day for fun!" Sapphire suggested, though it was kind of an empty promise.
She was very close with Sparkles because she was a good listener and fun to talk to, but she wouldn't just meet up with some stranger online. Sapphire was pretty sure Sparkles was a girl with all the talk about fashion and her hobbies, so it wouldn't be too bad, but she felt like it would still be awkward.
[Yeah! Maybe when I'm not busy!] Sparkles gave her an empty promise back, and Sapphire was okay with it.
"Oh!" Sapphire exclaimed when she saw the website screen of the game turn back to normal. "Maintenance is done, Sparkles! Let's play duo matches!"
[Alright!]
"Um, welcome," Diamond repeated with a shy smile, greeting her again. "Is there something you're looking for?"
Platinum went over to the counter and brought her violin case to his view. Diamond's eyes trailed down to it, shifting his attention from the girl to the instrument.
"I came to practice with my piano accompanist for my next music competition," she told him. "She broke her own piano, so the store owner let us borrow the one in the store until she gets a new one."
"Oh," Diamond said flatly, looking around her. "Where's your accompanist?"
Platinum let out a sigh. "It appears that she is running late. Dealing with commoners are so exhausting, no matter how good they are. I swear they only waste my time," she said, mumbling the last part.
Diamond heard it, but he didn't really take offense. "Well, if you want, I learned how to play the piano before. Maybe I can help you practice before your accompanist shows up!"
"Thank you, but this piece is quite complex for a person who has only played piano for a short time," Platinum replied.
"Can I at least try it?" Diamond inquired, already going to the piano in the store.
Platinum stared at him in silence and followed anyways. She opened her bag and put the sheet of music in front of him when he sat down. Curious as to see his reaction to her difficult piece, Platinum studied his face features. Instead of looking at it and giving up immediately like she originally thought he would do, Diamond smiled at her again.
"I'm ready when you are!" he told her.
Platinum was taken back by his reaction, but still unpacked her violin. Maybe he will quit halfway after seeing how hard it is, she thought.
Once she was ready, she did the breather to signal the start and the two began playing together. To her surprise, even after playing the first measure, Diamond still kept going. She glanced at him and away from the music sheet, only to see a lighthearted smile on his face, visibly enjoying the piece. During the second measure, Platinum stopped playing for a bit for the piano solo, and it was at this point, where she heard the true sound of Diamond's piano playing. It wasn't like any piano she ever heard. The melody he was playing was so uplifting and she could feel the message the song was trying to covey— it was extremely different from her accompanist, full of life and not showing a hint of dullness.
While being absorbed into the sound he created, she forgot about her own turn at the end of the short piano solo. Diamond stopped abruptly when he realized Platinum wasn't playing her part. Turning around, he asked, "Is something wrong, Missy?"
Platinum snapped out of the trance when the melody ended. She found herself face to face with Diamond's big brown eyes staring at her.
"Huh?" she happened to say, not having any words at all.
A/N — Haha. That's right! I made Diamond a star with the piano XD Same with Black ^^ There's small (or more like tiny, tiny) hints of Agencyshipping because Agency will prevail something, sooner or later.
Also about Blue's eyesight, I kinda imagine her as one of those people who wear glasses, messy clothes who's a gamer inside, while outside, she wears contacts and dresses very pretty and neatly. I just thought it was fun to experiment with that!
Oh, I added Kimberly (aka Ultima in the Viz translations) in there for kicks XD The dex-holders did the weirdest things to her LOL. If y'all don't remember her, she's the crazy old lady that Green almost punched. That is, until she blocked it with her staff. But in reality, Gold did catch her on fire. That wasn't a lie at all lol.
THANK YOU FOR REVISING A PART OF A STORY VALKEYRIE'S SERVANT! If y'all find mistakes (there will be a lot), please tell me! XD
