Chapter Nine — Even Maids Have Secrets

Platinum snapped her head to the side to see Diamond standing next to her, gazing down at her with kind eyes.

"Go ahead and take a seat. It's optional seating arrangements," Platinum told him, gesturing at the seat below him.

Diamond smiled and took a seat next to her.

Platinum didn't really get their relationship. Unlike their seniors who had the same classes, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum did not share any academic classes in common (Pearl was super upset to get separated from Diamond). Though they did not have that, they did have the after school punishment together. It's only been a couple times since everyone was called and had to go decorate City Hall, but every time they did, they would constantly bicker and argue with each other. Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum were the only exceptions from this (minus Red and Yellow who tried to stop the fights), and the three would just chat together to drown out the screaming. Though they were commoners, Platinum had to admit, she actually enjoyed their company. For fun, Diamond and Pearl would practice their comedy skits, and they were pretty entertaining to pass time. She got closer to the best friends pair, but there was still an obvious gap between them and her.

"So how are your classes? Is the festival busy for you?" he inquired, starting a conversation with her.

"We're doing quite fine. Like the other first years, there isn't really much to do," Platinum replied.

"That's good to hear!" Diamond replied. "I can't wait till the festival starts! My class is picking the tastiest food, and I just want to eat them all!"

Platinum softly smiled at the gluttonous boy, finding him kind of amusing. "You will like my class then. I suggested the best foods that commoners would like based on this book I read."

"I'll totally stop by then, Missy!" Diamond informed, getting excited. "So when's your shift? I'll come visit when you're working!"

"I don't really have one because there's too many people in my class," Platinum replied.

Not going to lie, when she came to this school, she was hoping to experience some fun high school stuff she read about in her books and saw on T.V., but she was left with no interactions and left out in many of the school events. It wasn't entirely her fault, but it was difficult to interact with anyone without them getting offended because of her blunt speech. Heck, she doesn't even know why Diamond sticks around her.

"Oh! That's great! That means you can experience the festival more!" Diamond optimistically told her. "Are you planning on going around?"

Platinum nodded. "Yes, I will be strolling through the festival with my good friend, Candice."

"I hope we can eat lots of yummy foods!" Diamond said cheerfully, drooling by just imagining it.

She found the boy funny, and a small giggle escaped her lips. When she realized he heard it, she stopped immediately and returned to her straight face. Diamond didn't seem to mind that she was trying to hide it and only continued to smile at her while chatting away about food. At this point, Platinum finally decided to gather enough courage to ask the question she wanted to ask.

"Diamond," she called his name, cutting him off about his opinion about ice cream.

"Yes, Missy?" Diamond perked. "You can call me Dia if you want!"

She ignored his suggestion because she didn't want to use nicknames on commoners. It was already enough that she called him by his name rather than 'commoner' like she does with everyone else. "Why are you so talented at the piano?"

Truthfully, it kept weighing on her mind all day yesterday and the weekend, and when they finally met up again at City Hall, she couldn't bring herself to ask him about it. It didn't fit the mood, and Pearl seemed to be busy talking the most while she and Diamond just listened.

"I don't think I'm that talented," Diamond replied, thinking about it.

"I find you very talented," Platinum assured. "I don't understand why you're not in the music division."

"I mean, sure, I play a little because of my mom owning a music store, but I don't consider myself that good and enjoying it too much. Playing the piano is fun, but what I really want to do is get a scholarship from this program and become a comedian with Pearl!" Diamond answered.

"I see," Platinum muttered. "Well—"

"—Dia! Here you are! I was looking for ya!" Pearl cut in, joining the pair. "Huh?" He finally noticed Platinum sitting with him. "Oh hey, Missy!"

"Hello," Platinum greeted.

"What are you two up to?" he inquired, wondering why they're together randomly.

"I'm just asking Missy about the festival," Diamond replied.

"Oh! I'm super excited for it too!" Pearl chirped. "Ah! Wait, that's not what I came here for! Green told us to go back, the break is over!"

Though they were in the middle of a football meeting, Green allowed everyone to take a three minute break before resuming again. When studying, he found that resting the mind for awhile makes it easier to stuff information into them and pay attention after recharging.

"Wow, I didn't notice the time go by," Diamond said, getting up from his seat.

"We gotta get back soon before he chews us out!" Pearl warned, already sprinting away from the two.

Diamond, his polar opposite, took his time and was going slowly. As he was say goodbye to Platinum, he remembered something. "Oh! By the way, Missy, can you please not mention any of my piano playing to Pearl?"

Platinum looked puzzled, but of course she didn't want him to know, she covered it up right away. "Why did you tell me something you didn't tell your best friend?"

"I don't know, actually. I guess it's because you have a good vibe," he answered with a sheepish smile.

After that, he bid her goodbye and ran off to the back of the auditorium (quite slowly, Platinum might add). Watching him go join the others, her cobalt eyes was tinted with a mix of curiosity and confusion.

"Crys! Why do we have to be here? When is it going to start? I'm so bored!"

Like always, Soul kept whining and throwing a tantrum. She, along with the rest of the school, came to the auditorium because of the all-grade level thing. She had to wait around for them to start announcing whatever they were going to do, but after twenty minutes passed by, she found herself extremely bored.

"Soul, settle down!" Crystal chided her sister, fed up with her whining.

The blue-haired girl turned around and resumed listening to Emerald.

"So as I was saying..." Emerald continued while Crystal listened to him, earnestly.

Soul slumped her shoulders. She had nobody in the auditorium to talk to, they're making her wait forever for the announcement, and the people she's with are ignoring her. Not that it mattered if she joined them— she found Emerald's rambles about his new inventions quite boring.

"Crys, I'm going to go look around!" Soul told her sister, though Crystal didn't seem to hear.

The brunette walked around the aisles. At the very least, she can exercise her legs and stretch a bit before being confined to a chair for the next hour. I wonder if I can find the seniors, she wondered, thinking it'll be fun to hang with Yellow and Blue. She hung with the two a couple times at City Hall and found their company enjoyable.

While her mind was deep in her thoughts, Soul didn't watch where she was going and she felt herself collide with someone. Just when she was falling backwards, she saw the world move in slow motion, and a scene rushed in her mind.

There were scientists peering at her, their faces quite close. It wasn't just a couple of them— it was a whole bunch, and they were behind some sort of glass, or more specifically, she was the one behind the glass. They were observing her, taking notes and mumbling to each other about something. Soul didn't know what because it was inaudible. The visual of the scientists changed as she moved around, not that she could control it anyways. A girl, maybe the age of two or three, appeared in her sight. She was fully naked and bawling, crying very loudly beside her.

"Where am I?!" she screamed, looking terrified.

The view shifted from her and back to the scientists, who completely ignored the crying. It was only then, Soul had seen who the point of view belonged to. Staring closely at the glass, she noticed the reflection of a girl with the exact same face as the crying toddler and was naked as well. However, this child differed from her— her hair was a much darker color and unlike the other girl who was crying, her eyes were just blank with no emotions at all. After glancing away from her reflection with a stoic face, some sort of prison came into view behind the scientists. She tried to see what it was, but when she did, her vision turned black.

Soul saw some sort of light, and when she chased after it, she found herself back to where she had just left. It took her a second to realize her surroundings and what had just happened. A tall man dressed in a black leather jacket with a mohawk stood in front of her, arms crossed with an angry look on his face. Soul also felt something, or someone, hold her in an embrace. Looking up, she was met with bright silver eyes and red hair.

"Be more careful," Silver told her, dropping her to the floor.

Soul stood up, completely confused as to what had just happened. She could've swore she was in some sort of laboratory, but now she was back at the auditorium. Also, why is that guy who looked like a biker so mad and why was she in Silver's arms? Or correction, was, until he dropped her.

"... Did something happen?" she asked, whispering very loudly to Silver.

Of course, the man heard it and pointed an accusing finger in her face. "You, Missy, bumped into me. And I'm over here, waiting for my apology."

"Sorry?" she said dryly, very unsure. She still didn't know what was happening.

"THAT WAS THE MOST INSINCERE APOLOGY I HAVE EVER HEARD!" he shouted in her face, catching the attention of students nearby.

Luckily, Soul was very used to Lt. Surge, so she didn't cringe or flinch at all.

Geez, this guy's acting like I killed his puppy or something, she thought, giving him a look that said anything but remorse.

He was about to open his mouth and resume chiding her when he saw the look, but then he noticed the look Silver was giving behind Soul. Silver's bright silver eyes glared at him, causing a chill to go up the man's spine. He felt a strange rush of fear, and as he continued to gaze into it, he felt like Silver was going to grab his heart and kill him.

"Y-Your apology is useless! I'm wasting my time here!" he spluttered, stomping away from the two.

Soul whirled around, confused. "Damn, what the heck was that about?"

Silver's face softened from his glare. "Who cares?" he replied, shrugging his shoulders.

Before Soul could say anything else, Silver had already started walking around from her. "H-Hey!" she called out to him.

Silver still didn't turn around and ignored her.

Soul frowned and folded her arms, upset that she got ignored. "Geez!"

"I can't believe you're doing so much for this high school when you don't even go to it," Black remarked, sitting backwards in some random metal chair he found. "Aren't you busy preparing to become the CEO of the BW Agency? This school stuff didn't take away time?"

White was too busy to even look up from the paperwork she was doing, but she still replied to him. "I mean, it's going to be my school next year, so I might've well help. Also, don't call me CEO, it's supposed to be a secret for now. I don't want people to think I got in the program because I have money."

"Hmm..." Black mumbled, observing the brunette. He didn't think they actually cared after seeing her at work.

When Black first met her at the coffee shop as promised, he didn't expect this development. After leaving his sisters in a rush, Black continued to make his way to go meet the CEO of the BW Agency. Unfortunately, he was so much in a rush that he ended up smashing into her and breaking one of her expensive cameras. Of course, he didn't really see too big of an issue, however, when he called to pay for it, his mother was so upset that she wouldn't give him a single dollar. That event led to Black temporarily working with White to pay off the camera. Black was fine with it since he could become friends with the CEO of the BW Agency, however, he didn't expect the CEO to be putting on high school plays as a fun hobby. Well, he called it a hobby, while she seemed to take it more seriously like a business.

"I still think it's weird," Black said, voicing out his thoughts.

"Well, things are a bit different in Japan than America," White replied, leaving Black still confused. "I just hope whatever I'm involved in isn't too much to handle. I need to finish my math homework later, ugh."

"I mean, it's just a play. How hard can it be?"

"Just a play? With that attitude, it'll be a horrible play! There's so many things to do with plays, such as casting, background, set design, and other things! Plus, I have to work with total strangers since this play is open to everyone outside of the theatre club! It's not that easy," White said, rubbing her temples.

"I guess," Black muttered, gaining a new opinion about her. He was the right person for business, but he didn't know show business. He couldn't really judge show business or whatever White does because he didn't understand it too much himself. He made a note to himself to read a book on it later.

"Glad you understand!" White exclaimed, slapping Black's back. "Even though I sound stressed out, I'm sure the theatre students will help me! I heard these types of things are voluntary, so maybe it won't be so bad."

"Yeah, that's true—"

"—Hello everyone!"

Black was interrupted by one of the teachers starting the presentation already. He and White peered from behind the curtains on the sidelines to watch Mr. Wallace announce information regarding the all-grade event.

Mr. Wallace did his dramatic spin like usual and lifted his head high. He continued to speak through the microphone gripped in his hand.

"I take it all of you are enjoying your new classes, yes? As you all know, I'm Mr. Wallace, the teacher sponsoring the theatre club! I've been given the honor of announcing the all-grade level event for the second part of the festival, and as you can guess, it's going to be a play! However, the administration and teachers have decided to change it up this year! Usually, we would have volunteers participate in the event, but this year we wanted to change it up. We realize a lot of children from the 'Prodigy Program' tend to ditch these things since they're always so busy. That's why we've decided to make sure they're included! Because this sudden decision only affects the students in the program, we've decided to move the meetings regarding the all-grade level event to next week. After the first part of the festival, we will have only the students in the program come to the auditorium during the eighth period and draw roles. As of right now, the school has not made a decision on what play they want the students to do, so that will be postponed till later as well. Also, though this is a theatre event, the theatre club is in trouble for the prank they committed on the principal last week, so everything will be run by none other White Touko, a talented student in the program's middle school division! Come out, please!"

White stood there on the sidelines, frozen. What? They said she was just going to come and help give her opinion, not just direct the entire thing! Not to mention, no theatre club? She had to work with people who might not even be made for the stage or don't care since it's randomized! What the heck! This was totally not what they promised!

Mr. Wallace continued to gesture to her to come out. Since White wasn't going out, Black gave her a small nudge to push her onto the stage. White fumbled out a bit, but she quickly caught herself and walked onto the stage next to Mr. Wallace. Being the professional she was, she plastered a smile on her face, showing nothing was wrong.

"H-Hello!" she greeted everyone, bowing.

"I hope everyone can show White the respect and work well!" Mr. Wallace said. "Anyways, there's not much to do in this remaining period since we're still a bit ambivalent on this event, so starting tomorrow, eighth period will be used as another period for preparation of your class event. Today, eighth period will end earlier, and you all are dismissed, thank you! Have a nice day!"

"Oh my gosh, Green. How could you like strawberry more than chocolate?" Red inquired, quite dramatically.

"The same reason why you like chocolate more than strawberry," Green answered.

"Guys, you're crazy. Vanilla beats them all," Pearl stated.

"I think all of them are yummy," Diamond said, in between eating his sandwich.

"We're here!" Gold announced, interrupting their amazing conversation about which ice cream flavor was the best.

The seven football players stood in front of a small cafe. During eighth period, they got most of the meeting done regarding the strategies they were going to use in the game, however, they didn't finish. Green suggested doing it after school since school was let out a bit early and Lt. Surge gave them a break from the punishment, but most of the team already had stuff to do after school since they joined new clubs when football practice was moved to the mornings due to the food fight. So now, the only ones free were just the seven left from the food fight who didn't have the opportunities to join any clubs. Most of the team was gone, but Green still wanted to talk about it in case they spaced out earlier. He saw Diamond getting bored and Pearl dozing off, along with Gold and Sapphire playing around. He was not going to have a losing team on his name, especially with the reputation he has as the principal's grandson.

They all observed the cafe, wondering why Gold wanted to suggest this place for their meeting spot. "So what'd ya mean earlier? Ya trying to pick up a waitress, or somethin'?" Sapphire asked.

At this, Gold wrinkled his nose. "Ew, that's gross," he replied, earning puzzled looks from his teammates.

"You would think he has decency when he says that, but it's for a whole different reason," Silver muttered.

"Let's just say that my meal is on the house," Gold bragged with a smug look.

"I'm only paying for myself," Green announced, making it clear that he wasn't going to pay for Gold's food.

"Let's go in already!" Sapphire yelled at them, pushing the doors open.

Immediately upon entering, the group went to find the largest table in the small cafe since they were a large party. It was a very quiet cafe, not many people were around and the music was on low volume. Green didn't want to admit it, but Gold actually picked a nice place for once. He was extremely reluctant to come when the boy had suggested it, but everyone outvoted him and he was dragged along.

"H-Hello!"

All seven of them turned to the waitress who was at their table. The waitress had long blond hair that was tied up into a ponytail and was very short, almost like a child. Quickly after greeting them, she spread out the menus around the table and waited there to take their orders. Even though half her face was covered up with one of the metal trays used to serve food, the whole table recognized her.

"Yellow!" Sapphire screamed her name, pointing at her with a surprised expression. "Ya work here?"

Yellow lowered the metal tray from her face since it wasn't working. Her cheeks were blush red from the embarrassment. She didn't know whether it was because she was wearing a maid outfit, or the fact that Red was burning a hole in her by how much he was staring at her. He didn't know whether it was because he never saw her as a girl often, or something, but he just couldn't stop.

"Yeah, I work here part-time," she informed.

"Oh, now it makes sense," Pearl muttered, now understanding why Gold reacted that way earlier and said his meal was free.

"Um, go ahead and take your time ordering," she told them. "I'll be back in a second when you are ready!"

Before they could say anything, the blonde left the table quickly, so quickly, in fact, that she didn't notice the wet floor sign and slipped onto the floor. The sound of dropping the metal tray and her shriek was heard as she collided with the floor.

"Yellow!" Red called, getting up to help her. Unfortunately, they were in a booth and Red sat inside, so it proved to be difficult. "Ugh, this is why I hate booths..."

"Yellow!" Sapphire rushed to the aid of the blonde to help her.

"Geez, Yellow! You need to be more careful!"

Another familiar voice was heard at the scene, and a brunette everyone knows emerged from the kitchen area. Sapphire shot her a confused look while everyone else looked surprised that Blue worked here as well.

Blue waltzed over to Yellow and helped the girl up. Before she could properly greet or notice them, Sapphire yelled again, "Ya work here too, Blue?!"

The brunette looked up and realized that the whole team was here. Seeing them, a smile played on her lips. Yellow seemed to notice this and she didn't like it.

"Oh yes! I'm friends with the owner of the cafe and they're always short staffed so I come to help from time to time," Blue replied to her. Her azure eyes trailed over to the football team and she walked over to them with Sapphire while Yellow scurried to the kitchen. "I'm surprised you guys picked our little cafe for your meeting~! Welcome!"

"Gold promised us that there's lots of yummy foods!" Diamond replied happily, looking through the menu.

Blue grinned. "There is!" she told him, earning a good reaction.

Green didn't know why, but he didn't trust her happy-go-lucky smile act. "I bet this pesky woman will put poison in it," he muttered to himself as he went through the menu. Silver shot him a glare (that Green deflected) while Red chuckled nervously, hoping Blue didn't hear his friend and get new ideas.

"Um, I'm ready to order!" Red said, changing the subject quickly in case she heard. "Can I have—"

"—No!" Blue's answer to Red made her get weird looks from around the table. "I'm more on kitchen duty! I'll go get Yellow, so you can order~!"

Pesky woman, Green thought, knowing her intentions to set Red up with Yellow. This whole scheming of hers was just taking time away, his time.

While Blue left to go get Yellow, Red suggested that they recap what they discussed in the auditorium to get things started.

"Yellow! I need you out there!" Blue whisper-shouted at her, finding the blonde hidden behind the counter.

"No way!" Yellow whispered back to her. "I'm too embarrassed!"

"Look, Yellow, I'm going to give you advice as your best friend. As your best friend, I'm telling you to go out there and talk to Red," Blue advised quietly, gesturing outside the kitchen. "I know you have a crush on him!"

Even though she was whispering, Yellow was afraid someone would hear them and she gestured Blue to lower her voice. "Stop meddling, Blue! Ugh, I'm so embarrassed I can die right now..." Yellow grumbled, covering her face with her hands.

"You just need a push, I know it!"

"Blue, I'm telling you to stop—" Yellow stopped mid-sentence when she saw the entrance open. Immediately as if her body was used to it, she greeted the person who walked in, "Welcome!"

To their surprise, it was Platinum. Never in a million years did the two expect her eating here. Known as the 'rich chick' of the program and always talking stuff about commoners, they expected her to be in a higher end restaurant or something. Platinum wasn't too close to Blue or Yellow when they worked together after school, but Blue thought it'd be fun to befriend her.

The brunette left Yellow and skipped over to her. "Hey there, Missy!" Blue greeted, using the name Diamond and Pearl bestowed onto her. Truthfully, she knew her real name because she was curious and took a peek at her school records, but if she said it out loud, it would probably be harder to befriend her.

Platinum looked equally surprised that Blue was working here. "Hello," she greeted back, giving her senior a polite bow. Though she was a commoner, she was still older than her so she had to be respectful.

"I take it you are doing commoner work right now?" Platinum asked her innocently.

Blue thought it was funny how she didn't know how offensive that sounded, so she waved it off. "Yep! I'm helping out a friend!" she replied. "Are you here for Dia and Pearl?"

Platinum glanced over to the large table in the back and shook her head. "I didn't know they would be here. I'm actually here for an arranged marriage meeting," she responded.

Blue frowned, disappointed. "Oh. Well, I'm guessing he's the customer over there," she said, directing the girl to the other side of the room where the only other customer is. "Go ahead and take a seat, I'll bring some menus over!"

Platinum nodded and went on her way while Blue went to go talk to Yellow behind the counter again. Both of them were bent down behind the counter, whispering-shouting to each other.

"Yellow! I need you to get their table while I get Missy's!" Blue ordered.

"What?! Why can't I get Missy's table?"

"Because! I need to eavesdrop on them!" Blue told her, earning a look from the blonde. "I'm pretty sure Dia likes her! Okay, I'm not doing it for me, but I'm doing it for him as his senior!"

"You don't even talk to him though! Heck, you don't even talk to her!" Yellow said, finding the whole thing ridiculous.

"Well, too late because I'm going to do it," Blue replied, already grabbing the menus and rushing over to Platinum's table before Yellow could stop her.

The blonde tried to grab her, but she was too slow. A sigh escaped her lips as she watched Blue at Platinum's table with some random guy she's meeting for marriage. Now, she couldn't get out of serving the other table. Turning around to the other table, the football players seemed to be deep in conversation about something. Red seemed to notice her staring though, and he returned her gaze with his usual smile and wave.

Yellow smiled back nervously and went over to take their order.

"Hello," Platinum greeted her marriage partner and took a seat in the chair across from him.

"Lady Berlitz," he acknowledged, giving her a slight head nod.

Platinum observed him. He seemed to be a bit older than her, having more mature features, and he wore a very nice suit. What stood out to her was the bright gold streak in his black hair; she found the style quite odd, but she wasn't too much into fashion herself to properly judge him for his taste.

"I find you are doing well today? My name is Darach, but you already know," he said.

"Yes, I'm fine, thank you," Platinum replied.

"Hello~!" Blue cut in, passing the two their menus. "Now that the person you were waiting for came, you can order! Can I take your drinks real quick?"

"I'll have water," Darach told her, not even looking at her face.

"I'll have the same," Platinum responded.

"Great! I'll come back in a second to take your order!" Blue said in a peppy tone, leaving the two.

After she left and was out of earshot, Darach scoffed, earning an arched eyebrow from Platinum. "... Is something the matter?" she inquired innocently, confused as to why he's suddenly having an attitude.

"No, I just can't believe a commoner would just talk to me so casually. It really says a lot about their manners," Darach replied, pushing up his glasses. "I really thought this place would have better service since it had good ratings, so I suggested it, but turns out I was wrong."

Platinum didn't know how to respond to that. Though she wasn't particularly close with Blue and she looked down on commoners, she didn't really mind the girl at all. Blue was always super friendly to her after school and helped her with arrangements when she's not arguing or bothering Green. She barely said anything out of line when she came over to give them their menus too, and was basically doing her job, so Platinum was so confused as to why he was so upset and taking it that far.

I have to do well for my parents, Platinum thought, deciding to keep her mouth shut.

"So is there anything you like in particular?" she inquired, trying to change the subject.

"Gold, stop playing on your phone and focus on the meeting," Green chided, snatching the phone out of his hands.

"Hey!" Gold tried to reach for it, but he failed because Green stopped him with one of his glares.

"Oh, it's not a phone, it's his iPod. He doesn't have one," Silver pointed out from the side.

"Thanks for the clarification, Silv," Gold said sarcastically, reaching for his phone. "Technically, it's a phone! I just need to pay for the phone line, and it'll be one!"

"You're not getting it back until we leave," Green responded, shoving the phone into his backpack, away from Gold.

"Hey, at least let me text her goodbye first," Gold begged.

"Is it another one of your girlfriends?" Pearl asked, raising an eyebrow.

Technically, Gold never had any girlfriends, but he would go around flirting with multiple girls, Crystal being one of them. They were usually more successful though unlike his attempt with Crystal.

"Nope, it's my internet friend," Gold clarified.

"What? Since when do ya have internet friends?!" Sapphire inquired, surprised that Gold would be doing this type of thing.

"What can I say? I'm a lovable person that even people miles away love me," Gold replied, looking smug.

"It's because they're miles away that they love you," Silver quipped.

"Hey, at least I talk to girls unlike some people I know," Gold shot back.

"Crystal rejecting you because she hates you is not counted," the redhead retorted.

"Okay, but not just super serious gal, but I have a whole line," Gold revealed. "Can't say the same for you."

At this, Silver got fed up with him and punched him. Of course, Gold didn't this action lightly and returned the punch, and the two kept grabbing each other in the booth. Diamond and Pearl watched in silence, wondering if they should stop their seniors, Green got annoyed, Sapphire watched it and cheered for fun, and Red tried to rip Gold off of Silver.

"Stop it, you idiots. Don't do this in public, it's embarrassing," Green scolded.

Silver sent another glare his way, upset to be told what to do, and Gold grumbled a whiny "He started it!" and pointed fingers.

"Now, now," Red tried to settle the matter between them.

"I'm hungry, when is the food coming..." Diamond mumbled from beside him.

"For real! We just ordered five minutes ago! Are they not done yet?!" Pearl said, getting impatient as always.

Green started to rub his temples again to soothe himself. Just when he was going to reprimand everyone again, Yellow came over with a tray of pastries that they ordered.

"Hello, sorry for the long wait!" she greeted them, placing their orders on the table.

"It wasn't long at all! Don't worry!" Red replied to her in his usual friendly tone, making her cheeks heat up.

After she finished placing them on the table, she checked the notepad to make sure she got all of their orders. Diamond ordered like ten different cakes, so she wanted to make sure she got all of the orders in. However, her concentration to count all of the items was interrupted when she heard the door open.

"I'll be there in a sec—" She froze when she saw familiar spiky red hair and immediately without thinking, she got on the floor and crawled under their table.

Everyone exchanged puzzled looks, wondering why she did that. Gold lifted the table cloth and asked her, "Yells, what's wrong?"

Yellow nodded her head towards the door. Gold followed her gesture and when he finally spotted the person she was referring to, he went under the table as well.

"What are you guys doing?!" Pearl inquired, arching an eyebrow.

"Hiding! Now put that table cloth down before that redhead sees us!" Gold whispered, yanking the table cloth down.

"Why are they hiding from Silver?" Diamond asked. "He already saw them."

"I don't think he's referring to him, Dia," Pearl informed.

"Am I the only one who's confused?" Red inquired.

"Yer not the only one," Pearl mumbled. He nudged his best friend to get his attention. "What about you, Dia?"

Despite getting nudged, Diamond seemed to be focused on something else in the cafe. Pearl followed the direction of where he was looking, only to see Platinum talking at a table with some older guy.

"Is it me, or does that girl over there look really familiar to Missy?" he asked.

"Dude, that is Missy," Pearl told him. "I wonder who the dude is."

Diamond continued to stare, his eyebrows getting furrowed. "Should we greet her?"

Pearl paused and wrinkled his nose, unsure. I would say yes, but it looks like she's bus— ah, she noticed us."

Platinum was looking and waving at the two. Of course, Diamond and Pearl waved back, and her date seemed to dislike this, shown by his obvious frown. Platinum didn't notice though and she gestured to them to come over with a small smile.

"Is she motioning us to come over?" Diamond asked, seeing her hand gesture.

"... I think so," Pearl replied, still unsure.

Diamond turned to Green for permission. "Is it okay if we take a break, Green?"

Green ran his hand through his hair, stressed. "Go ahead, I don't care anymore," he replied. Gold was already under the table with their waitress and everyone seemed distracted. At this point, they should just take a break.

"These are my... very good acquaintances, Diamond and Pearl," Platinum introduced the duo once they came over.

Truthfully, she wanted to use a closer term to address them, but she found it difficult to suddenly introduce them as friends in case they didn't see it the same way. Though they still interacted and had fun together at City Hall, there was still some distance between her and them, so she didn't take it personally if they didn't see her as a friend. The reason why she motioned them to come over was because Darach had asked her about who she hung out with at school, so she thought it'd be best to give a direct introduction.

"Hello Missy's friend!" Diamond greeted, munching on some bread he brought over.

"Yo!" Pearl greeted as well, very casually despite how awkward this meeting was.

"Greetings," Darach said, looking them up and down with a grimace. He leaned closer to Platinum and used his hand to cover the side of his cheek to block out the noise from Diamond and Pearl. "Are you really sure you want these filthy commoners close to you? They smell like something you get out of the trashcan."

Pearl scoffed and narrowed his eyes while Diamond just kept calmly munching on his bread, ignoring his insults.

He's acting like we can't hear him... Pearl thought, folding his arms. He was about to say something to defend himself and Diamond, but Platinum spoke up.

"I just said they are, didn't I? I meant it," Platinum stated, somewhat getting offended. All they did was just greet him normally and came over like she asked.

"Also, the odor is because of their prodigies. They were most likely practicing their talents very hard, and it's proper to respect that very much."

"But they're... cavemen. A prodigy is supposed to be someone who's talented in something wonderful and artistic, such as yourself with the fiddle," he added.

Platinum gave him a look, though he didn't really notice it. "The definition of a prodigy is someone with exceptional abilities. This is not limited to just music and art. They are blessed to have one in athletics, and I find that wonderful."

Pearl had mixed feelings. Not only was he surprised and shocked that Platinum defended them, but he was also shocked that she supported them on the football team. She seemed like the type on the more proper and prim side where they saw that type of thing a waste of time. He knew she wasn't stuck up as people thought she was after spending time with her, but it still caught him off guard. Diamond, on the other hand, was just happy to be complimented.

Darach looked at her with a worried expression. "Please understand that I cannot let you hang out with such people. You might get hurt, or even worse; they might rub off on you and you'll become low class like them. For that, I suggest that you should stop hanging around them."

"Pardon?" Platinum said, her tone upset despite her blank face. "You do not have the authority to ban me from anything. I can meet with anyone I wish to."

"As your fiancé, I'm saying this!" He stopped covering the side of his face, so Pearl and Diamond could hear him more visibly, "These commoners," he pointed at them, "are absolutely filthy as I stated before. Look at his poor manners, eating while in front of unfamiliar company!" he pointed at Diamond specifically, "People like this are trash! They—"

He stopped talking when he felt something warm touch his scalp and drip down his face. All three boys looked at Platinum with widened eyes as she stood in front of them, an upside down teacup in her hand.

"The only one with poor manners is you."

"Do you think he's gone yet?"

"Do I look like I know?"

Still under the table, the set of cousins kept whispering to each other, anxious of the arrival of the red-haired boy who walked in earlier. Gold pressed his ear against the table cloth on the outside of the booth, trying to listen in on the conversation at the counter. It proved to be difficult though since the counter was kind of far from where they were at.

"I think I hear big sis's voice," Gold informed.

"I hope Blue rings him up fast..." Yellow muttered, trying to listen in as well.

Suddenly, the pair jumped in surprise when they heard a bunch of random shouting about commoners and some tea. They looked at each other with confused expressions, having no idea what happened or who the voice belonged to. When Gold tried to focus to listen in on the drama, he felt a rush of pain from a sudden kick on his right.

"Ow!" he cried. More kicks came from the same direction and Gold felt a whole barrage of kicks attack him.

"Hey— Sto— Sapph!" Gold managed to say in between the kicks.

Sapphire didn't seem to hear him though since she continued to do it. After a few seconds, the kicks finally stopped and Sapphire's feet left the table. Yellow peered under the table cloth and saw her standing up, along with two other pairs of feet. She noticed that one of the shoes had something bedazzled on it, and that gave the answer to who she was talking to.

Ruby, Yellow figured. The other one is probably Emerald.

The blonde turned to her cousin with a worried expression. "Are you okay, Gold?" she asked, feeling bad for him.

Before he could regain himself and answer, suddenly they heard a bunch of yelling and screaming, the voices belonging to Ruby and Sapphire.

"Man, what the heck is happening out there?!" Gold grumbled, rubbing his poor back.
