"Die, die, DIE!" Taichi threw the third dart, narrowly missing Jyou's ear instead of the intended bullseye.

Jyou raised an eyebrow, rubbing his ear then glancing towards the other men who surrounded the hunter. "What's wrong with him?"

Koushiro shrugged. "He's in a bad mood."

"I disagree. He's beyond that," Yamato stifled a yawn. "He got turned down."

"Turned down from that promotion he's been pitching for?" Jyou asked.

"By a woman."

"Oh," Jyou chuckled. "If it helps, rumour has it that Mimi got dumped by her boyfriend."

"She's none of my business," Taichi snapped, while Yamato grumbled, "Jyou! Don't tell him that."

Jyou could see there was less vigour in Taichi's dart targeting, considering he was processing the new information that his ex was (again) single. He watched as the dart fell onto the ground.

After watching Taichi fail a couple more dart attempts, Jyou helped himself to a glass of whisky. Taking a sip, he let out a satisfied sigh as it burned down his throat. He straightened his posture, fixing his tie, and puffing his chest ever so slightly.

Of course, Koushiro was too busy scrolling through his phone, Yamato was fiddling with his harmonica, having retired to the shabby rocking chair on the other side of the basement.

Jyou's friends had never been observant people, but the longer he sat there, he couldn't help but feel disappointed by their actions. If he rotted there, would they even care?

You're being overdramatic again!

Those words applied to the current moment. His girlfriend's words. It was her favourite line whenever she'd tease him for overthinking. When he wasn't overthinking, Jyou would using all his spare time stress eating or pouring over loads of medical textbooks. Apart from seeing his girlfriend, studying and stress eating...he barely had enough time to breathe. It had been a decent month since he had seen the boys, and they were carrying on like he wasn't there.

...or not.

As Taichi leaned past Jyou to snatch a glass of whisky, Jyou watched him pause when he glimpsed the shimmering, silver badge pinned on his shirt.

"JYOU!" Taichi gaped. His eyes widened as he pointed at him in amazement. "GUYS! Look!"

Koushiro and Yamato went up to him, deciphering the word on the pin. Yamato clapped Jyou on the shoulder, while Koushiro laughed out a 'finally'.

"Congratulations!" Taichi exclaimed. "Do I call you 'doc' now?"

Jyou grinned. "It's Dr Kido to you now, Yagami."
