A/N: Edited 16/10/2021. I've done some major editing to this story and changes quite a number of things. This chapter is like an interlude chapter and about three paragraphs longer than the one before it. There might be one other chapter that I would consider 'interlude' later on.
Chapter Eight: Training
Three weeks after Deino was born, all of my Pokemon were now old enough to begin training. I'd waited until they were all ready to begin training, especially since Deino was the youngest and as a dragon she was tough and strong enough to begin training younger than most other Pokemon. Training started by learning what moves each of them instinctively knew already, which meant scanning them with the Pokedex.
Swablu, the Cotton bird Pokemon. Swablu loves cleanliness and is quick to wipe off any unclean surface with its cotton-like wings. This Swablu is female.
Egg Move: dragon rush
Hidden ability (locked): natural cure
Moves: Growl, Peck, Round,
"You have some good moves to start off with, Swablu," I complimented.
Dragon Rush had the user tackling the opponent with great menace while channelling dragon type energy through their body, with a 20% chance of causing the opponent to flinch. Natural Cure, heals all status conditions when returned to a Pokeball, which made me glade I'd given her the luxury ball and not the heal ball because the effect would have been wasted on her.
Her known moves consisted of a status move in growl which would slow or freeze an opponent for a precious second, peck was a physical attack, whereas round was a distant attack. A good place to start, especially since she was already familiar with dragon energy.
Froakie, the bubble frog Pokemon. from its chest and back, Froakie creates bubbles called Frubbles, which act as a cushion and soften the blow of an opponent's attack. This Froakie is male.
Egg Move: water spout
Hidden ability (locked): torrent
Moves: Pound, Bubble, Bounce, Lick
"A ghost type move?" I raised an eyebrow in surprise, especially since his egg type move was a water type – indicating both parents were water type.
Water spout was a move that has water spouting from the user and landing on the opponent, causing damage. The power of the move was proportional to the health of the user. Torrent boosts the power of any water type moves used while the area effect move was active. Bubble was a distance type move, but one of the weakest water type attacks that could be used. The rest of Froakies move sets were all physical, with both bounce and lick potentially causing paralysis.
Piplup, the penguin Pokemon. Although not the most sure footed, it is proud nonetheless, getting right back up after a fall with head held high. Piplup has thick down which protects it from the cold. This Piplup is female.
Egg Move: aqua ring
Hidden ability (locked): defiant
Moves: Pound, Bubble, Peck, Growl
"A good verity Piplup," I complimented. Growl was a status effect; bubble was a distance attack while peck and pound were close quarter attacks with pound potentially causing paralysis. Defiant increases the attack of the user when their states were lowered. Which would be useful when Piplup was taught a move like close combat once she evolved, or if she was affected by venom drench. Aqua ring would make Piplup a good tank or defendant in time because this move surrounded the user with water which then restores health.
Vulpix, the Fox Pokémon. When it is born, Vulpix has only one tail, which splits into six as it grows. Before evolving, Vulpix's six-part tail can become as hot as a fiery blaze. This Vulpix is male. Warning, this Pokemon contains a king gene.
Egg Move: flame charge
Hidden ability (locked): flash fire
Moves: Tail whip, Ember, Disable, Safeguard
"King gene" I breathed in shock at hearing this news. I'd have to ask Nurse Joy for contact with a professor who researched the gene so I would know what the gene would mean for Vulpix. Especially since I'd already noticed he was growing quicker than normal considering the fact that he had been a runt on birth. The moves he knew, along with his ability and egg moves were just as impressive.
Tail whip was his only close contact attack, with ember being a distance attack. Disable would prevent his opponent from using the last move used, while safeguard would protect him and his allies from non- volatile status condition effects. Flame charge, once he could use it properly, would give him another physical attack, since flame charge coated the user in a coat of flame when they charged the opponent with increased speed.
Noibat, the Sound Wave Pokémon. Noibat's ears emit ultrasonic waves that can disturb its prey's sense of hearing and damage opponents. This Noibat is male. Warning, the unusual colouration of this Pokemon indicates that it is a shiny.
Egg Move: defog
Hidden ability (locked): Telepathy and infiltrator
Moves: Tackle, Gust, Roost,
"I have a feeling you're going to be a sneak attacker." I muttered on learning that he had the hidden ability of infiltrator, which allows him to pass through barriers to strike. The fact that he could also use Telepathy to determine what attacks were going to be used against him in a similar way to Detect, would be very useful especially since there was no research about a Pokemon having two Hidden Abilities. Defog would allow Noibat to blow away barriers and lower evasiveness, which would make him a very annoying combatant. Roost was a healing type move, while gust allowed him to attack from a distance.
Deino, the irate Pokemon, tends to bite and tackle everything so that it can learn about its surroundings because it is blind. Approaching this Pokemon carelessly can be dangerous. This Deino is female.
Egg Move: hustle
Hidden ability (locked): astonish
Moves: Tackle, Focus energy, Bite, Headbutt, Scary face, Body slam
"Well, very straight forward. Your moves suit you well." I decided. Hustle would boost her attacks, but lower her accuracy which wasn't something Deino's typically cared about anyway when they could land a powerful blow. Headbutt, tackle and body slam were just different ways of hitting an opponent, while bite was a dark type move where she would latch onto the opponent with her teeth, scary face could temporarily paralyse the opponent by scaring them and focus energy would help deliver more critical hits. Astonish would startle the opponent while she delivered an attack, and potentially cause them to flinch making it easier to land a hit.
"Okay, now I know what you can do, we can get to some training. We will start by working on base states of speed and strength, then we will work on your known moves including your egg moves and hidden abilities. Noibat and Swablu, you're going to start on the ground with Piplup, walking back and forward between the fountain and the door as fast as you can without falling. Deino, Vulpix and Froakie, you're going to be running the circuit around the garden. Froakie, please limit the amount of jumping that you do. Try and propel yourself forward with your back legs and land on your front feet and propel yourself forward again. Like jumping, but you either have your feet or arms in contact with the ground at all times. Deino, you're working on making the corners without slowing your pace, while Vulpix you're working on stamina." I issued my orders with an explanation.
