A/N: 16/10/2021. Major edit done to this story.
A/N 1: This chapter is basically an interlude and is a little bit shorter than the previous one. I thought about making it into a proper chapter but including a flashback but I have a general dislike of flashbacks so I am not going to be a hypocrite and include one when it wasn't strictly necessary.
Chapter Fourteen: Keeping Up to Date
With four family members evolved, I decided it was time to scan everyone to ensure that my notes were up to date with the moves they knew, and encase there was something the PokeNav could tell me that I didn't know about their new forms.
Prinplup's believe themselves to be the most important of their species, they tend live a solitary life. Its wings deliver wicked blows that can snap even the thickest of trees.
Hidden Ability: Defiant
Egg move: Aqua Ring
Moves: pound, bubble, peck, growl, fury attack, water sport, Swift, Drill Peck, Sleep Talk, Endure, Whirlpool
With her evolution Prinplup had grown to be 0.82metres tall, her flippers had gained more moveability along with length, ear like arches had appeared on her head running down to her eyes and there were four buttons like shapes on her stomach. Her visible legs outside of her fur was longer, and her feet bigger, giving Prinplup greater balance then she was used to. In training, falling over was now a rare thing typically caused by the actions of another member of the family.
On evolving she also learnt whirlpool, which brought her total number of known moves up to eleven even though whirlpool was not mastered. It would take her another two weeks after evolving to get a handle on the powerful water type move.
Frogadier's swiftness is nearly unparalleled. It can scale a tower of more than 2,000 feet in a minute's time. Frogadier can throw bubble-covered pebbles with precise control, hitting empty cans up to a hundred feet away.
Hidden Ability: Torrent
Egg Move: Water Spout
Moves: pound, bubble, bounce, lick, smack down, water pulse, Quick Attack, Double team, Smokescreen, Sleep Talk, Water Sport, Aqua Jet
Frogadier was stood at 0.61metres while he was crouching but if he straightened his back legs, he'd easily reach 0.9metres. The bubble around his neck had gotten thinner and resembled a scarf with a trail off at the back. He was extremely pleased with his new form as it meant he could start learning fighting type moves and beginning to fight alongside Riolu.
His evolution meant he learnt the difficult and powerful Aqua Jet that had Vulpix pleading to learn Flame Charge or Flame Wheel to counter it before he faced his brother in their training battles. With the mastering of Aqua Jet, Frogadier had learnt 12 moves.
Noivern fly around on moonless nights and attack careless prey. Nothing can beat them in a battle in the dark. The ultrasonic waves it emits from its ears can reduce a large boulder to pebbles.
Hidden Ability: Infiltrator
Egg Move: Defog
Moves: gust, roost, supersonic, wing attack, Quick Attack, Air Slash, Double Team, Steel Wing, Bite, Hurricane,
Noivern was currently the tallest of my team at 1.55metres tall; his wing span was 1.3metres with three sharp points on his wings. He had a fluffy collar around his neck and his ears were now more proportional to his body. Much to Noivern's surprise and joy he now had a long, thin, tail with a pointed and spiked end. He worked hard to figure out how to best move and manipulate his tail so that he could use it in battle and for pranks.
His new, much taller form, meant that Noivern could carry me or one of his smaller family members for a short period of time. He wasn't built to carry a passenger on his back for long, especially without a saddle, but it gave him a sense of purpose to be able to carry someone for a little while – let them experience the freedom of flight with him.
Noivern's larger wings gave him the power to master Hurricane, and give his Steel Wing a sharper impact. Despite having the smallest move pool of ten, Noivern was vicious in his inventive ways of using those moves in battle.
Deino, the Irate pokemon, tends to bite and tackle everything so that it can learn about its surroundings because it is blind. Approaching, this Pokemon carelessly can be dangerous.
Hidden Ability: Hustle
Egg move: Astonish
Moves: tackle, focus energy, bite, headbutt, scary face, body slam, crunch, Dragon breathe, Quick Attack, Dragon Rush, Endure, Outrage, Focus Blast, Dark Pulse
During the battle on the unnamed island, Deino had managed to finally learn Dark Pulse. She was quite proud of the amount of dark type energy she could gather, and this allowed her to be happy for the three family members who had evolved instead of jealous. I was glad that she'd made such an improvement at that crucial moment, because I was very much aware that Deino's temperate was far mellower than was typical of her species; they were called the Irate Pokemon for a reason.
With the fourteen moves under her belt, Deino was a very versatile battler who would only grow even more so as I added more moves to her move pool with each evolution. She'd always be strong, and inclined to being a heavy hitter, but she could do sneak attacks and defending when she needed to.
Vulpix, the Fox Pokémon. When it is born, Vulpix has only one tail, which splits into six as it grows. Before evolving, Vulpix's six-part tail can become as hot as a fiery blaze.
Hidden Ability: Flash Fire
Egg Move: Flame Charge
Moves: tail whip, ember, disable, safeguard, Quick Attack, Incinerate, Swift, Dig, Double Team, Sleep Talk, Detect, Protect,
In the week following the battle on the unnamed island, Vulpix managed to fully learn Protect after seeing just how it had been used to protect me during the battle. He knew that I could learn to protect myself in time, but at the minute I needed their help to be safe from the advances of other Pokemon. Detect, he learnt under the encouragement and support of Riolu who was eternally patient much like his father. With these two moves learnt, Vulpix know had a diverse move pool of twelve.
Altaria sings in a gorgeous soprano. Its wings are like cotton clouds. This Pokémon catches updrafts with its buoyant wings and soars way up into the wild blue yonder.
Hidden Ability: Natural Cure
Egg Move: Dragon Rush
Moves: Growl, Peck, Round, Safeguard, Dragon Breath, Quick Attack, Wing Attack, Double Team, Endure, Steel Wing, Air Slash, Air Cutter, Fury Attack, Dragon Pulse, Moonblast
Altaria managed to master dragon pulse to my satisfaction, but she was determined to refine it – to make it a thinner and more targeted attack instead of the wide area attack that Dragon Pulse was in its natural form. Moonblast wasn't mastered yet, she could barely begin gathering the energy in her mouth let alone hold it stable and shoot it as a beam at her target. See how much she was struggling with the move; I enlisted the help of Chansey who was family with fairy type energy and so could coach her in it's use. Once she learnt Moonblast, she would have sixteen moves.
Riolu, the Emanation Pokémon. A Fighting type. Riolu can understand how people and Pokémon feel by observing a kind of wave called aura. It has a flexible body with enough power to cross three mountains and two canyons in one night.
Hidden Ability: Inner Focus
Egg Move: Bullet Punch
Moves: Quick attack, Endure, Counter, Work-up, Reversal, Metal Claw, Quick Guard, Telepathy, Focus Blast, Heal Pulse, Zen Headbutt, Double Team, Sleep Talk, Detect, Protect, Disable
With sixteen mastered moves under his belt, Riolu was more than ready to evolve but he held on to his determination to not evolve until Deino had done so. I had managed to convince him that it might be years until I'd be able to afford or win a Fire Stone, and that he might need the strength and Lucario in that time as he couldn't access the full strength of his Aura until he evolved. In the same way that I wouldn't be able to access the full extend of my Aura until I was an adult.
