After Derek and Addison got back from their trip, they got an update on how everyone else spent their holidays. Sam, along with Maya, went with Vanessa to visit her parents for Thanksgiving, with his mom meeting them there. Callie took Arizona home to meet her parents while Pete, Violet, and Lucas had their first Thanksgiving as a family. Naomi stayed with William as his condition unfortunately continued to worsen. And lastly, Charlotte stayed in LA to continue running St. Ambrose as Cooper went home to see his parents in Ohio.

"So, did everyone have a good holiday?" Addison asked the doctors after everyone said their hellos in the kitchen.

"Yup," Cooper responded first.

"Yeah, it was good," Violet smiled at Pete from across the kitchen counter, who came up to inform Violet of which nanny was watching Lucas today. But he stuck around partly out of habit, and partly to catch up with his friends at Oceanside Wellness.

For Pete and Violet's Thanksgiving, Pete surprised her when she discovered he was a pretty good cook. Then again, it shouldn't have surprised her. He was the health nut that preferred looking at medicine from a holistic perspective. The fact that he could cook wasn't that much of a stretch. They found out Lucas was a big fan of mashed potatoes, and he definitely didn't like green bean casserole. But other than Lucas throwing his spoon full of green beans on the rug, their first holiday together went pretty well overall.

"Mine was fine. You know, turkey, stuffing, the works. How'd it go with the in-laws?" Sheldon asked.

"It went pretty well," Addison replied.

"It probably wouldn't have been if we had time to visit Bizzy and the Captain," Amelia commented, snickering.

"Filter," Violet commented. Amelia just chuckled along.

As they conversed easily in the kitchen, Sam got in with his head down as he went straight for the fridge. The doctors watched as the conversation turned to silence, waiting for Sam to provide an explanation. Sam ignored everyone's glares and angrily grabbed a spoon in the drawer for his yogurt.

"What's gotten into him?" Charlotte asked.

"You know, he's right there," Cooper pointed out.

"Yeah, well, I didn't think he'd answer me," Charlotte added.

"Sam?" Addison asked softly.

"I don't wanna talk about it," Sam muttered as he struggled to peel off the lid of his yogurt cup.

Addison took it out of his hand to peel off the tab easily. When Sam looked up, he looked frustrated as Addison's eyebrow arched.

"You know, we're not gonna leave you alone until you tell us," Pete commented.

There was a short silence before Naomi came into the room.

"Nai! What are you doing here?" Addison asked, excited to see her best friend back at the office.

She hadn't been up here for a while. Not just because she worked for the competing practice, but also because she'd been traveling around Europe to simultaneously care for William while trying to find experimental treatments.

"Well, I came to make an announcement," Naomi said after giving Addison, as well as Violet, a hug.

"Last night, William White died," Naomi said after getting everyone's attention.

"Oh, Nai," Addison said sincerely as she and Violet came up to hug her from her sides.

"I'm sorry," Sheldon said sincerely as he stayed where he was in his seat.

"No, please don't. I'm fine. It's been a long time coming, and…we both knew it was coming, and I am fine," Naomi insisted.

"And I don't want to discuss it…," Naomi took a deep breath.

"But what I do want to discuss is this: I want to merge Oceanside Wellness and Pacific Wellcare," Naomi announced, her tone sounding less somber.

"Nai. I mean, it's a nice thought, but the finances alone…," Addison started.

"No. No, no, no. It's not an issue. William left me his foundation to run...with millions. Many many millions. So, we have the resources. We can do some good here. Great, even," Naomi interrupted.

Everyone's ears perked up, with their faces still looking shocked and interested in what she had to say. But while they were still processing the news, Naomi took it as a sign that they were uninterested.

"You know, b-being a doctor is supposed to be a noble calling. But we know that that's not always the case, you know? There's only so much money, and so much time…and-and the real world intrudes, and uh…you have to compromise. But now, we don't have to," Naomi made her argument.

Everyone listened intently, but Naomi's nerves still got the best of her. At this point, the doctors were already convinced, but Naomi wasn't sure yet.

"Sam-when Sam and I were first thinking of opening OWG, we imagined a practice where we could really get to know every single one of our patients. And spend the time with them that they needed. And now, we can do that. We can do anything. And-and everything! So…?" Naomi rambled, now out of things to say.

"Sounds good to me," Pete commented.

"I have no problem with it," Violet added.

The doctors looked around each other and shrugged in agreement.

"Will this include full kitchen access?" Sheldon asked.

"Do you really need permission to get full kitchen access?" Amelia asked jokingly.

The other doctors chuckled in response.

"Everybody's always on both floors, anyway. What difference does it make?" Charlotte chimed in.

"Anything else?" Cooper asked after it was pretty clear everyone was on board.

"Uh…no. No, I guess not," Naomi stammered.

She still felt unsure if everyone was really on board with merging the two practices. Everyone else got up to get back to work. Except for Addison, who sensed Naomi still felt uneasy about the whole situation.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Addison asked, laying a hand gently on Naomi's shoulder.

"What? Yes, of course. I'm fine," Naomi said, her voice pitched slightly higher than usual. She moved around the kitchen, grabbing an apple and a knife from the drawer, grateful that she could have something to do to distract her.

"...Cause, you know, it's okay if you're not," Addison added.

Addison walked over to her on the other side of the kitchen island, her hand guiding Naomi's hands down to let go of the apple and knife. When Naomi seemed frozen in place, with the apple and knife sitting on the counter, Addison gently stroked her back and waited for the inevitable crying and hugging she knew Naomi needed.

"I'm sorry. I just…I just lost William, you know? And I loved him. Even though I'm a dirty cheater, but…I loved him. I did," Naomi insisted through her tears. Addison held her tighter, rubbing circles on her back.

"Well, from one dirty cheater to another," Addison started jokingly.

"Believe me, I know how it feels to love two people," Addison's tone turned sincere as she held Naomi tighter.

In Addison's arms, Naomi let herself cry a little harder before pulling away and wiping her tears. Addison gave her a sincere smile and helped wipe the mascara that ran down her face. Then, Addison and Naomi linked arms as they walked out of the kitchen together before parting ways to their respective offices.

Later that evening, Addison had an emergency with one of her patients at the hospital that would lead to her missing dinner with Nate. And Derek also ended up still being in a surgery that proved to last longer than intended. So, Amelia came home to relieve the nanny. After she and Nate had a nice, quiet dinner at home, she decided she'd take Nate to St. Ambrose to say hi to his parents.

"So, your mom really didn't acknowledge Arizona at all during your trip?" Addison asked as she updated her charts at the nurse's station while talking to Callie.

"Nope. But at least my dad liked her. You know, after she worked her magic," Callie replied, deciding to focus on the positives.

"She'll come around," Addison said supportively.

"And hey, even if she doesn't, I'll still spoil that kid rotten anyway," Addison added jokingly.

Earlier that morning, Addison came to the hospital for an emergency and Callie practically ran into her to tell her she was officially pregnant. And she found Mark later between surgery to congratulate him as well.

"Thank you. Really. Your support means a lot, you know," Callie said sincerely, gently touching her hand.

"Please, your kid's going to be amazing. Just watch out for the Sloan in 'em. He or she will undoubtedly be a troublemaker," Addison replied, chuckling.

"Look, Nate! Mommy already thinks you're a troublemaker," Amelia said jokingly, appearing behind Addison, whose back was turned to her.

"Nate!" Addison exclaimed excitedly as Amelia handed the baby to her.

"Hi, baby. Were you good for Auntie?" Addison asked, bouncing him on her hip. He nodded his head yes back, which only made Addison smile harder.

"No complaints here," Amelia commented, chuckling.

"Ugh, I can't wait to have one of my own," Callie added as she cooed alongside Addison.

"You will. In about nine months," Addison replied, giggling.

"Wait, so you're…?" Amelia started to ask.

"Yup. Pregnant!" Callie confirmed.

"Congratulations!" Amelia chuckled and went in for the hug when Callie opened her arms up to her.

"Mama," Nate said while still in Addison's arms.

"Yeah, Auntie Callie's gonna be a Mama!" Addison cooed, giggling as she rocked him in her arms.

"Yeah, and Uncle Mark's gonna be a Dada," Callie continued the baby talk.

"Speaking of Dada, where is my brother, anyway?" Amelia asked.

"Think he's still stuck in surgery," Addison replied as she and Callie moved on to making silly faces at Nate to get him to laugh.

"Okay, I think I've had enough of this. I'll see if I can find him," Amelia said before walking past them to find the OR board.

Once she saw Derek's name on the board, she went toward the scrub room, only to find Derek on his way out. He pulled off his scrub cap slowly and leaned against the wall, sighing.

"Bad day?" Amelia asked as she walked closer to him.

"Amy? What are you doing here?" Derek asked.

"And where's my kid?" Derek asked, realizing Amelia was supposed to be watching Nate.

"With your wife. He's fine," Amelia replied.

"I don't know if I could say the same about you, though," Amelia commented, leaning against the wall on the opposite side of the hallway.

"Yeah, well, you probably wouldn't be either if you had to tell someone their husband died in surgery," Derek sighed.

"Sorry," Amelia said sincerely.

"It was a long shot. But I wanted to try," Derek sighed, straightening his posture.

"Well, at least you tried. And hey, if it makes you feel better, you can see your baby afterward who was very smiley earlier," Amelia said, hoping it'd cheer her brother up.

"He was?" Derek asked, starting to chuckle.

"Yeah! I mean, it was probably hard not to. Especially with Addie and Callie making funny faces at him," Amelia replied.

Derek chuckled and looped his arm into Amelia's after she offered it to him as they walked down the hall. He had to talk to the patient's family first, so Amelia stayed back until after he came back. Then, they made their way back to where Amelia was earlier with Addison and Callie. When they got there, they were pleasantly surprised to see Mark and Arizona were now crowded around with Addison and Callie.

"Hey! There he is!" Mark exclaimed upon seeing his best friend.

"Nate, who's that?" Addison looked at Nate, who turned to see Derek.

"Dada," Nate said shyly. When everyone around him cheered, he smiled.

"Hey, buddy," Derek said as he got him out of Addison's arms and held him higher up in the air for a few seconds before lowering him down into his arms.

While the six of them cooed over the baby, making light conversation, Amelia spotted Sam coming from around the corner.

"Hey, Sam," Amelia greeted.

Everyone turned around, slightly waving and smiling back at him. Sam gave back a tight smile and nodded before disappearing behind the other hallway.

"What's up with him?" Arizona asked. It was clear something was bothering him.

"I don't know. We've been trying to figure that out all day," Addison remarked. Amelia nodded in agreement.

After Naomi's visit that morning, Sam was able to sneak away afterward. But it didn't take long before the doctors came to him asking what was wrong. But he kept coming up with excuses about having to get ready for his next patient. Or, later in the day, when he could use the excuse of having to get to St. Ambrose to put in some hours towards his surgical residency. Derek and Mark looked at each other before heading in the same direction, with Addison waving to Nate as they walked away.

"Hey," Mark called out right before Sam was about to disappear on the other side of the room.

"Look, Nate. It's Uncle Sam," Derek said playfully as he waved his little hand toward Sam. Nate looked over at Derek while Sam gave them all a smile back.

"Hey, what's going on with you? Addie said you've been in a mood all day," Mark asked.

The guys watched as Sam initially hesitated answering.

"What? Are you and Hoyt in a fight or something?" Mark asked.

"We broke up," Sam finally admitted.

"Oh, I'm sorry, man," Derek said as Mark patted him on the arm.

"What happened?" Derek asked right as Nate got a little antsy and started playing with Derek's hair. Derek's comment was sincere and well-meaning, but Nate's playfulness may have lessened the impact.

"You guys get into a fight over the holidays?" Mark asked, knowing Sam's mom flew in and they all spent Thanksgiving at her parents' house over in Santa Barbara.

Derek handed Mark the baby so he could stop messing with his hair. Plus, Mark didn't really seem to mind getting to hold Nate for a bit. Especially since it meant he could make funny faces and noises to entertain him. Which he did happily as Nate giggled back at the faces he made.

"No…Well, yes. But only after her parents got into it with my mom," Sam started. The guys watched intently, with Mark bouncing Nate in his arms while they waited for more of an explanation.

"Her parents were being patronizing about the fact that my mom's a single mom. And that she's never been married. And she finally had it with Vanessa's parents. It was just…a mess," Sam explained.

"And, let me guess, you guys got in a fight about how they're fighting and you side with your mom and she sides with her parents," Derek gathered.

"Yup," Sam confirmed. Mark glanced at both of them, feeling like he was missing out on some kind of insider info.

"Be in a long-term relationship and you'll get to experience this all for yourself," Derek said jokingly.

"Fun," Mark commented as Nate tried to reach towards his dad.

He and Lexie were in a committed, loving relationship. And he loved her, which isn't something he'd felt in a long time. Since Addison, if he were being completely honest with himself. And he could see them having a life together. A great life together, as long as he didn't screw up, he thought. It'd only been about five months. Six if he counted that month when they weren't officially together, but were sleeping together. He hadn't met her parents, or her dad, since her mom had passed before he met her. Their situation was working, but it wasn't something that was easily explainable. Especially to concerned parents. But he was determined to make it work between them.

"Here, I got you, buddy," Derek said as Mark handed the baby back to him.

"So, you wanna talk about it…?" Mark asked hesitantly. Talking about feelings wasn't his strong suit, but he was trying to get better at it.

"No, I'm…I'm good," Sam said awkwardly.

Turned out talking about their feelings wasn't something any of the guys were good at. They all nodded at each other one last time before going their separate ways. Sam went to retrieve lab results for Dr. Singh, Mark had a patient to check up on, and Derek went back to the nurse's station where the girls were still there talking.

"So?" Arizona asked. The other women also looked to Derek for an answer.

"He and Vanessa broke up," Derek said simply.

"Oh, that sucks," Callie commented.

"Did he say what happened?" Addison asked as Derek handed the baby back to her.

"Their parents got into a fight, so I guess they got into a fight," Derek explained, shrugging.

"Oh," Addison nodded sympathetically.

"That's it?" Amelia asked, expecting there to be more to the story.

"That's it," Derek confirmed.

"Well, wish us luck when our parents meet. I mean, we didn't exactly have the best luck with my parents," Callie commented.

"Hey, my parents already love you," Arizona started.

"They've never met me," Callie interrupted her.

"Well, they love that I love you. And they're pretty easy, so," Arizona trailed off.

"So, you're one of the lucky ones," Addison chuckled.

"Yeah, I guess I am," Arizona said cheerfully before giving her girlfriend a quick kiss.

"My mom loves you!" Derek exclaimed. Addison arched her eyebrow at him. And Amelia mirrored her sister-in-law's glare.

"Really, Derek? You're gonna lie to her now?" Amelia asked. Derek looked down and chuckled.

"Well, hopefully Sam's mom didn't hate Vanessa's parents as much as she hates mine,," Addison commented.

"And me," Addison added. Derek couldn't help but chuckle, knowing the story behind why.

"Wait, why? Wouldn't Bizzy be the one that hates her?" Amelia asked.

"Well, I'm sure Bizzy isn't too fond of her, either. But at our graduation dinner, Bizzy got drunk and asked her if Amistad was an accurate portrayal of slavery," Addison said, chuckling.

The rest of the group laughed along.

"Wait, but what'd she say?" Callie asked curiously, still laughing.

"I'll ask my slave friends," Addison replied, embarrassed.

Everyone continued laughing as Addison joined them again.

"I think that's my new favorite thing about Bizzy," Amelia commented as her laughs subsided.

"What was it before?" Derek asked, still chuckling slightly.

"Secret lesbian lover," Amelia said jokingly.

The group erupted in laughter again as Callie and Arizona said their goodbyes and went back to work. Derek and Addison cooed with the baby for a little while longer before realizing they too had to get back to work. They said their goodbyes, each giving Nate a goodbye and goodnight kiss before Amelia took him home and tucked him that night.

A/N: So, if it wasn't already obvious, Callie's pregnant! Private Practice references include Naomi's announcement from 4x02 from when she tells everyone William White died and the story about Bizzy and Sam's mom was mentioned in 6x04. This wasn't super plot heavy (I don't think?), but there were some cute Addek moments with the baby mixed in with everyone else's storylines. The next chapter will very likely be the Christmas chapter, so Derek and Addison are going back to see the Shepherds and stop to see Bizzy and the Captain. So, look out for that. Thanks again for reading and following along with this story!
