In a classroom, the board displays various species of Grimm, King Taijitu, Death Stalker, Beowolf, Boarbatusk, Nevermore, and Ursa, behind an elderly teacher named Peter Port.
"Monsters! Deeeemons... Prowlers of the night!" Peter said dramatically. "Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey! Ha-ha!".
The members of JNPR sat behind RWBY's row. Jaune, Ren and Pyrrha were sitting up and paying attention, and Nora was sleeping.
"And you shall too, upon graduating from this prestigious academy!" Port said. "Now, as I was saying. Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are safe havens in an otherwise treacherous world!
Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces! And that's where we come in. Huntsmen! Huntresses! Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot defend themselves! From what, you ask? Why, the very world!
That is what you are training to become. But first: A story. A tale of a young, handsome man... Me! When I was a boy...".
While Port was telling his stories, Jaune was starting to fall asleep. The professor was boring, and some of his stories were not even consistent. Pyrrha saw that her partner was falling asleep. Instead of waking him up, she offered him to sleep on her lap, which Jaune accepted without thinking.
While Jaune was sleeping, Pyrrha was not paying attention to Port since, like Jaune, she found so many inconsistencies in his stories, but she was recording the lesson to review later. Instead, she was enjoying playing with Jaune's hair.
"The moral of this story? A true Huntsman must be honourable!" Port said. "A true Huntsman must be dependable! A true Huntsman must be strategic, well-educated, and wise! So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?".
"I do, sir!" Weiss shouted so loud that Jaune woke up. Looking around, he realised that he was sleeping on Pyrrha's thighs. "I believe I embody those traits!".
"Why is Weiss being loud?" Jaune asked as he woke up. "I was having a great dream".
"Oh, Weiss seems angry about not being team leader," Pyrrha said. She was blushing since Jaune was hugging her thighs earlier when he was sleeping. "If you ask me, I think she wouldn't be a great leader since she doesn't understand what it means to be a leader. Weiss is pushy and believes herself to be superior".
"It's probably due to her upbringing," Jaune said. "When I first met her, she had what seemed to be butlers. Most rich families are brought up to believe that they can have everything they want. So, when Weiss didn't get what she wanted, she became a brat".
"We can't really blame her for that," Pyrrha said. "It seems her parents didn't teach her how to be considerate of others".
Weiss, now back in her combat suit, readying her Myrtenaster at the growling creature in the cage. Her teammates cheer her on from their seats in the front row. Weiss ignored the cheering of her teammates, except for Ruby, who she berated for no reason at all.
Port swings down his weapon and breaks the lock, dropping the cage door and revealing the Boarbatusk inside. Said Grimm immediately charges at Weiss. She uses Myrtenaster to deflect its attack and roll to the side, readying herself for its next move. The Grimm stands a distance away from its enemy, studying her.
Jaune saw the fight and wasn't impressed. Sure, he was weak and pathetic whenever he tried to use Crocea Mors, but that's due to not being comfortable with his weapon and feeling out of balance. On the other hand, Weiss was at her best, yet she was barely doing anything against a small Grimm.
Watching the fight, Jaune thought that instead of deflecting the Boarbatusk, Weiss should have moved to her left and stuck at the Grimm while it passed by her. That way, she would have been able to injure the Grimm if she hit it on the leg or the right side of the belly.
"Ha-ha!" Port laughed. "Wasn't expecting that, were you?".
Weiss is now speeding towards the oncoming Boarbatusk, sticking her blade straight at its skull until they meet and Myrtenaster is trapped in the beast's tusks. Weiss is still hanging on to the hilt and is tossed around as she struggles to get the rapier back.
Jaune again found Weiss' fight against the Boarbatusk sloppy. He may not be able to wield a sword, but he knew that way she fought was terrible. Why would she meet the Grimm head-on when the face is covered in armour? She should have moved to her right and let the Grimm pass by and strike it in its opening.
The right and left sides of the Boarbatusk have the least amount of armour. That's where she should have aimed, not the head filled with armour. Bonus point if she could find a way to flip the Boarbatusk and hit it in the belly where its weak spot is.
"Come on, Weiss!" Ruby cheered. "Show it who's boss!".
Weiss turns to glare at Ruby, only for the Boarbatusk to turn its head and rip the sword from her grip. Myrtenaster lands far away from Weiss, who is knocked back by the creature's tusks.
"Oh-ho!" Port said. He was enjoying the beating of Weiss. "Now, what will you do without your weapon?".
Weiss looks up just in time to see the Boarbatusk charge again, rolling out of the way just in time to avoid getting trampled and make it crash into a desk. Weiss rushes at her sword and slides to get it back in her hand.
"Weiss! Ruby shouted. She wanted to help Weiss somehow, and she thought maybe giving advice was a good idea. So, she did. "Go for its belly! It doesn't have any armour!".
"Shut up, Ruby!" Weiss shouted. "Stop telling me what to do!".
Jaune looked at how Weiss was treating Ruby when the younger girl was just giving advice to help her teammate.
"Thank Oum, I'm not in her team," Jaune said. Pyrrha agreed. "I don't think I'll be able to hold in my anger if we lived in the same dorm room".
"Hmm…" Ren said. "If Nora was in the same team as Weiss, it would not take long for Weiss to blow up on Nora. Thankfully, we aren't on her team".
"Right, I mean if waking up Nora means getting hit with Magnhild," Jaune said. Nora made a sorry gesture toward him. "Weiss would probably go crazy in no time since Nora has a hard time waking up in the morning. Imagine waking up every day to get hit with a hammer".".
"Look, I'm sorry, okay?" Nora said. "I already apologised this morning!".
"I'm just teasing, Nora," Jaune said. "It didn't even hurt, to begin with".
"I still call lies!" Nora said. "There is no way that it didn't hurt betting smashed by the best weapon in the world".
"I don't know what to tell you, Nora," Jaune said. "It just didn't hurt".
Jaune and his team heard Port speaking and realised the fight was over.
"Bravo! Bravo!" Port said. "It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true Huntress-in-training! I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings and stay vigilant! Class dismissed!".
"Finally! We can leave!" Jaune said. "I can't believe he is a professor at one of the four prestigious Huntsman and Huntresses Academy! All he did was tell stories, very conflicting stories, I might add. Then again, there were hints in his stories about the Grimm's weaknesses".
"Huh? Weren't you asleep?" Ren asked. "I swear to Oum I saw you sleeping".
"I wasn't sleeping. I was napping," Jaune said. "I still had a bit of my attention on Professor Port. However little it might have been. Anyway, I'll go and speak to Ruby to check if she's okay".
Jaune left searching for Ruby, and he found her in the hallway with Weiss. Sheesh, Jaune thought. Weiss was really a brat about not being a team leader and pushing all her frustration on Ruby. Jaune was going to berate Weiss for attacking Ruby verbally like the way she did, but Weiss had already left. Instead, he decided to comfort his first friend at Beacon.
"You okay, Ruby?" Jaune said. "I heard the way Weiss was pushing her frustration on you".
"Jaune? Is she right?" Ruby said. "Did Ozpin make a mistake making me a leader?".
"I don't know," Jaune said. Ruby then became even more dejected as she thought there was a chance it was true. "I can't just lie to you and say that Ozpin didn't make a wrong decision. Right now, I don't see any reason why Ozpin's decision would be right or wrong.
There isn't enough time for me to give an opinion. Also, I wouldn't take Weiss' words to heart. She hasn't even gotten to know you properly since she refuses to get to know you due to her anger at not being the team leader.
But maybe you should step it up a bit as well. Show Weiss the traits that could make her accept you as a team leader. Show her that you are serious about your role".
"Jaune, thanks for the advice," Ruby said. "But you know, I saw you sleeping in class. Maybe we can both step up and show our team that we deserve our spot as the team leader?".
"Sure, if that makes you happy," Jaune said. "It felt weird when I saw you nearly cry. Now, come on. We need to get to our next class".
Jaune and Ruby walked to their next class, Stealth and Security, with Professor Ann Greene. Jaune hoped that the next class would be nothing like Port's lesson.
