The sky's beneath our feet
Run wild, run free
Won't hide what we were meant to be
Run wild, run free
I perched myself on the hood of Jacob's car as he examined the bikes when we were joined by two other kids. Embry Call and Quil Ateara, they introduced themselves to me, smiling between themselves as if sharing an inside joke on Jacob's expense, I played along with them and explained the bikes as a part of Jacob's upcoming birthday gift.
"So, do you know a thing about cars, Swan?" Quil asked.
I smirked at him from my perch, "a little, you've seen my baby and now I got myself a bike, but I know nothing next to my friend, Hale, that woman is a goddess when it comes to cars."
"Hopefully she'll join us here," Jacob said with a grin.
"Collecting girls now, Jake?" Embry asked him with a smirk on his face.
"Fuck off, Embry," Jacob shoved him, blushing prettily.
I smiled, "hey, no teasing the youngling, he gets enough of that from me."
"Bella," Jacob groaned.
I laughed, "Besides, Jake here is very lucky indeed that we girls flock to him, must be the hair."
Quil and Embry laughed while Jacob continued to blush.
"You're a riot, Swan," Quil said.
I winked at him, "and don't you forget it, kiddo, now if you excuse me, I have to go return the jeep before Emmett decides to destroy my baby, also I need to go get dinner started, Charlie is not going to feed himself."
"When will you stop by?" Jacob asked.
I smiled at him, "tomorrow after school, so make sure to have a list of the pieces so that I can send them to Hale to see what she can scavenge."
"Deal!"
I drove to the Cullen house with relative ease, feeling much more comfortable with the jeep, I spotted my car parked next to Carlisle's Mercedes and figured that it had been a while since Emmett and Jasper finished their trip. I parked on the other side of Carlisle's car and got off the jeep, rolling my shoulders before making my way into the house. Edward was sitting at the piano and smiled at me when our eyes met.
"Composing?" I asked as I sauntered up to him.
"Not really, I enjoy just playing from time to time," he told me with a smile.
I squeezed his shoulder and smiled back at him, he played a few notes and I was surprised when I could recognize the melody, "Haydn?"
Edward looked at me surprised, "that's unexpected."
"Hey, I'm cultured, also piano music helped me focus when I had big cases, or well, helped Alex focus, this is confusing," I said with a small smile.
"Wonder what else your mind is hiding from us," Edward mused.
I laughed and shook my head, "probably some weird ass trauma, have you seen your brothers?"
"They're out hunting with Rose and Alice," Edward told me.
I raised an eyebrow at him, "I suppose you don't know where they left my keys."
"You could ask Carlisle, he was here when they left," Edward told me with a shrug.
"His office?" I asked, already walking.
"Yeah."
I walked around the house, the place had become familiar to me since I spent so much time around the vampires, it was almost like a second home to me. I reached Carlisle's office, still a little lost in thought and knocked on his door absentmindedly. Carlisle called me to enter and as soon as I stepped in I was reminded why I loved Carlisle's office so much since the walls were lined with books from floor to ceiling.
"Hey Doc," I greeted.
"Bella," Carlisle greeted back, a book held in his hand as he sat behind his desk in a plush chair that I knew to be comfortable.
"Sorry to bother you in your downtime but do you by any chance know if Emmett and Jasper left the keys of my car behind?" I asked.
Carlisle smiled, "it is no bother, Bella, and they did leave your keys," he said as he pulled my keychain from his pocket.
"Sweet!" I said as we exchanged keys, "thank you, Doc."
"You're welcome," Carlisle's smile was pleasant and I almost swooned, these vampires were too good looking for their own good.
"I'll be leaving now, gotta start dinner, enjoy your book!" I said before making a beeline for the door.
"Have a pleasant night, Bella, drive carefully," Carlisle told me.
I winked at him before I closed the door of his office and walked back to the main door, Edward was still at the piano, playing a soft tune I waved at him as I left and he smiled. I made it home before Charlie and got started on our dinner, it was going to be simple, tomato soup and grilled cheese for old time's sakes. Charlie didn't complain about dinner, he actually found it amusing. We even got to watch tv before I decided to call it a night and head to my room.
Next day at school most of the buzz was about discussing Halloween that was approaching slowly, I was discussing costumes with Angela and Jessica as we walked from our English class to the cafeteria. Angela was certain that she wanted to dress up as Frankenstein's wife while Ben was going to dress up as Frankenstein; Jessica was going to dress up as Sally while Mike was going to be dressed as Jack.
"I will go dressed as Wednesday Addams," I declared with a smirk.
"Cute, why Wednesday and not Morticia?" Angela asked.
"Well, Wednesday is a baddass and second, my cute ass is single as fuck, so," I said wiggling my eyes at her.
"You could be dating Edward," Jessica reminded me.
"I could not, he's practically like a baby brother to me, I adopted him, in a couple of years you'll see me fighting Dr. Cullen for custody," I said decidedly, making both girls laugh.
"Why will you be fighting dad for custody?" Alice asked as she joined us.
Angela and Jessica exchanged glances, still not completely used to Alice's presence.
"Because I adopted Teddy, he's mine now," I told her with a smile.
"Oh, well, Dad would surely fight for Edward, are you sure this is the only way?" Alice asked, enjoying the conversation a little too much.
"Meh, if the good Doctor is willing I'd be down for joint custody," I said as we reached our table, then looked at Jessica and Angela, "what do you girls think?"
Angela seemed to ponder on it as we sat down, "it's reasonable."
"That if Dr. Cullen accepts," Jessica nodded.
"Why are we discussing my father?" Edward asked, taking his seat next to Alice.
"Because I'm adopting you, and will ask Dr. Cullen for joint custody," I explained to him, a smirk on my face.
I knew that he and Alice had been listening to the conversation and I was actually touched by the dedication they were putting in blending in with the rest of the students.
Edward frowned as he bit on an apple, putting up a show and chewing thoughtfully, "would I have to change my name? Can I keep being Edward Cullen if you adopt me?"
"No, your new name will be Charles Swan-Cullen, no you cannot change my mind," I deadpanned.
Jessica was the first to laugh, followed by Angela and Alice.
"You seem to have been given this quite a thought, Bella," Jessica said laughing.
"Of course I have, Charlie's over the moon, he's gonna have a grandkid that he'll be able to take to baseball games and take fishing, it's win-win," I told her.
"Oh no, but what about Mrs. Cullen?" asked Angela.
"She's gonna be my wife," I said dead serious, "she's gonna leave the Dr. in a couple of years and we'll get married in Vegas."
It was Alice's turn to laugh, and laugh she did while Edward snickered into his apple.
"Oh Bella, never change," Jessica said as she wiped away tears from her face.
The rest of our classes were boring that day, and I spent the rest of the week planning for my Halloween costume since Mike was throwing a party and the whole school was going to attend. I was excited, sure it was a high school party, yes, but it had been the first party that I was going to be attending outside of school in Forks. Being the Chief's daughter wasn't much fun when your peers partied, but Mike was resolute to invite me and not even Lauren's presence was going to stop me from going.
