Chapter 10

Some lines are taken from the anime

Hitoshi POV

I woke up squished between Hisoka and Illumi. It's as predicted. "Hey, wake up." I said nudging the two.

"Morning kitten~ why didn't you join us last night?" Hisoka mumbled.

"Didn't want to interrupt, you two needed to sort things out and you did. Although I did say to use your words not your bodies, but I can't complain."

"You could never interrupt Hitoshi." Illumi stated, "Now go back to sleep, it's only 7:30."

"Yeah, no, while I slept better tonight then I have in a while I do have to get dressed and we have to finish the exam."

"Five more minutes." they said in unison.

"You two are normally up at 5 or 6 in the morning, there is no reason for you to sleep more."

"But you smell good." Hisoka explained.

"Well, yeah, I mean I took a shower. Now get up."

They still didn't move. The two had their arms draped over me, I wouldn't be able to get up unless they did.

I activated my quirk, it might not have a lasting or strong effect on them but it's definitely more convincing then my regular (still quirk infused, to a lesser degree) voice. "Get up." I said.

Hisoka's and Illumi's eyes snapped open and they stared at me. Their limbs were twitching. They were strong enough to fight the influence, and because of the bond it already didn't do much, but it did enough. Think of it like their minds being fully conscious, but a part of their subconsciousness is affected by my control which is why their limbs sometimes move without them wanting to.

They stared at me for a few more minutes before reluctantly getting out of the bed.

I walked into the bathroom and got dressed in what I'd been wearing for the entire exam so far. (A/N I don't think I ever described what he's wearing, but whatever. He can be wearing whatever you want him two. His weapons are still a part of his outfit though. I like to think he wears a trenchcoat.)

I left the room first. Hisoka and Illumi left afterwards sometime. We still don't want people to know that we're here together (let's ignore Hisoka for a minute yea?).

I was standing among all the leftover hunter applicants on a tall pillar.

"Hem hem," Beans cleared his throat, everyone turned to look at him, "Everyone, this is the starting point for the Third phase. This is the top of Trick Tower. You'll pass if you reach the bottom alive. The time limit is 72 hours. Well then. The Third Phase now begins. Good luck to everyone." Beans left along with the airship leaving us stranded on the tower.

I looked around. I spotted the group of four standing near the edge of the tower looking down. A guy approached them talking about something before starting to make his way down the tower. Not even a minute into his decent flying monsters came out of nowhere and attacked him. That's not how you get down the tower then.

I kept glancing at the group every now and then. There were less applicants around, Hisoka and Illumi are already gone, I'd assume there are some kind of trapdoors all around the top of this tower. I still hadn't moved from the spot I'd been occupying the entire time. Though I might have to soon, If I have to spend another minute watching that waste of space Tonpa breathe, I'm going to kill something or jump off this tower and hope I can fly.

I turned my attention to the group of four again, they seem to have found a trapdoor. The green boy pointed at four other spots, does that mean he found 5 trapdoors? Well there are only four of them so I might as well take the fifth door. I slowly made my way over to them.

When they all disappeared down a trapdoor I walked slowly so it took me around five minutes to reach the door, I stepped on the platform and fell down.

I landed in a crouched position in a dark room. "Finally! We've been waiting here for five minutes already!" The tall black haired male said. He appeared to be a rather impatient fellow, if five minutes bothers him that much.

"Hey, you're the guy from the elevator!" The white haired kid said.

I gave a small nod.

"I'm Gon!" The green kid- Gon I suppose- said.

"Gon, don't just tell random people your name!"

I took out my phone, well aware of the blondes calculating eyes. He reminds me of Yaoyorozu, calm and collected, with a clear goal set in mind.

I typed, I'm Shinsou.

"Killua." The white haired kid mumbled reluctantly, after Gon nudged him.

The black haired guy spoke next, "Well, I'm Leorio, it's nice to meet you, I guess. Is there a reason you can't just talk?"

"Leorio," the blonde smacked his arm, "You can't just ask people that, it's insensitive. He has a reason and is probably unwilling to share it, so leave it at that and accept the facts." He turned to me, "I'm Kurapika."

I nodded my head in greeting. I typed again.

Will my, let's say issue, be a problem?

"No, it wont." Kurapika said.

I nodded my head and put my phone away (I charged it the night on the ship so hopefully it won't die).

I looked over to the sign on the wall and read it. I took the remaining timer and put it on my wrist.

A door was revealed not a second after I put on the timer. "I see," Kurapika started, "When all five of us put on the timers, the door automatically appears."

"To open this door, press O. If not, press X." Gon read.

"From now on, we will need to use the majority rule." Leorio stated, "At least the answer is obvious."

We all pressed a button on our watches, O 5, X 0, the sign read. "Let's go." someone said.

We entered a room with another sign. "Seriously? I didn't think we'd get another question so soon." Leorio muttered.

"Which way, O for right, X for left." Gon read again.

We voted again, O 3, X 2.

"Huh? Why would you choose to go right?" Leorio demanded, "You always go left, everybody knows that!"

"That's true," Kurapika started, "As research has shown, people who are lost or frightened and find themselves at a crossroads, tend to choose to go to the left much more frequently then the right."

"You know I heard about that too." Killua chimed in.

It was here that I started ignoring them. It's an endless circle of right or wrong if you look at it this way: People most often choose left, so you'd choose to right. But what if the person knew you would go right? They then make right harder to get through then left, but then what if you go left thinking they made right harder for this very reason?

It's an endless circle, they could have made both sides identical, it doesn't matter. It's a trick used to confuse people and have them over think. And right now, it's fueling an argument, so I'd say it's working.

Knowing that it's irrelevant, I picked right.

When Kurapika and Killua walked off to the right I followed, their argument must have been settled.

We came to an open room, with a platform in the middle and a dark pit everywhere else.

"What's this?" someone asked.

"Look over there." Killua said.

We all looked over, there were five people on the other side, all wearing hoods.

"The applicants are here, unlock my handcuffs." Someone on the other side said. The handcuffs of the guy standing closest to the edge fell to the ground. "Here we go." The same voice said.

The person took off their hood to reveal a bald guy. "There, now let's get down to business." He said.

"Guys, listen up." A voice said over a speaker. "The men standing before you are all prisoners of trick tower."

"Prisoners?" Kurapika asked.

"At the same time, they've been hired as examiners by the selection committee. You will now battle the five of them. It will be a one-on-one battle. Each person can fight only once. Everything is permissible. There will be no draws."

"If you can win three times, you can pass, as this is majority rules. The rules are simple." The guy on the other side said.

"I'm getting tired of this." Leorio complained.

I zoned out again, I don't read the fine print, so I'm not going to listen to it either. I snapped out of my thoughts rather quickly as relevant things were being said again. "Okay! I'm fighting whoever's going first on your side. So who's it going to be?" The guy said.

I tapped Kurapika on the shoulder, and stepped forward. He looked at me. I pointed at myself. "You want to go first?" He asked. I nodded. "Are you sure?" He inquired, I nodded again. "Shinsou will be going first." He stated. "What! We don't even know this guy! What if he's super weak?" Leorio shouted.

Weak? Me? Oh no no, I might be weak in comparison to others, but you guys are afraid of Hisoka, and I can take him on in a fight and win (it's 50/50 really).

I glared at Leorio. I made my way to the edge of the platform we were standing on. A bridge came out and connected us with the platform in the middle. I walked to the platform.

"Now let's determine the type of combat, my suggestion is a battle to the death." My opponent suggested.

I nodded in conformation, fine by me. "What can't talk?"

I nodded again. "You're a brave man, I'll give you that."

"What! Shinosu you should've said no!" Leorio yelled.

It's not like I can speak right now, geez, let a man live a little.

My opponent slid into a ready position. I moved my coat to the side to reveal a gun resting on my hip. I pulled it out of the holster in one quick motion and shot him square between the eyes. The man was dead before he hit the ground.

I put my gun back in its place on my hip and hid it under my coat once more. I walked up to him and kicked him off the platform. There's no reason for him to take up unnecessary space.

I walked back to the others, I got looks of shock from Kurapika, Leorio and Gon, and I got a small smirk from Killua.

"Shinsou! You can't just kill someone!"

I took out my phone.

It was a fight to the death.

"He's right, Leorio, it's not like he had a choice." Kurapika reasoned.

Thanks.

Kurapika grimaced.

Thoughts?

Also just so you know, the other fights happened just as they did before, Gon won his fight and Kurapika's fight 'ended', they would have gotten three wins but it's Leorio's fight that truly decides whether or not Kurapika won. So Leorio loses his fight just like the anime and Killua fights the guy just because he wants to. I'm lazy so I will not be writing about those fights, just watch the anime again. Next chapter will start after all the fights.

I wanted Shinsou to finally interact with the main group and thought this was the perfect opportunity. I hope you liked it!
