Hitoshi POV
"What's with the gate of impending doom?" I asked, pointing at his front door.
"It's to keep the unworthy out." Illumi replied.
I blinked, they're assassins, it's not there for protection, they can protect themselves. Unworthy he said. Unworthy… I walked closer to the gate, it appeared to be quite heavy, with no keyhole. Meaning either this was just a wall and I'm incredibly dumb or the door is unlocked. Unworthy… a test of strength?
"A test of strength?" I asked aloud.
"Yes. I'm surprised, it didn't take you very long to figure it out."
Yeah well someone with a mental quirk needs to have some brain. Also, did he just call me stupid?
"How heavy are they?" I asked.
"I'm not going to tell you until you pass."
Well at least he doesn't think I'm weak. I don't know how heavy these gates are, though I'd assume a few tons at least; if the Zoldycks are anything like Illumi then they're all monsters.
I put my hands on the door and pushed, I let nen surround me to boost my strength, and of course I muttered "open sesame." I'm no fool.
Six of the seven gates opened and I slipped inside. Illumi slipped in right behind me.
"I'm impressed." Illumi said.
"Mm, so you gonna tell me how heavy they are now?
"The sixth gate is 128 tons."
Wut. Does nen really make me that much stronger? Or have I gotten stronger? Meh, probably both, but still who'd've thought all it took to gain an impossible amount of strength was dying and being transported to a world where human anatomy works differently. Wait, I shouldn't even be able to do that. The most people back in my world can lift without quirks is 3 tons. Has my body changed? Did my quirk become a nen ability?
Maybe I really should test the limits of my quirk like Hisoka suggested. In fact I oughta figure out what the hell happened to me. Maybe I should sit down with Illumi and Hisoka and come up with a bunch of theories. I mean people sacrificed to 'dark gods' or whatever die, right?
"Hitoshi?" Illumi poked my shoulder.
"Sorry, I was lost in thought."
"Let's go."
Illumi was walking calmly, but his eyes kept darting around, as if looking for something.
I studied the forest, listening to the wind.
"Grrrrr."
"What was that?" I whispered, nudging Illumi.
Illumi had abruptly stopped walking and narrowed his eyes at something in the distance. "See that?" he asked.
I looked in the direction Illumi was staring at. A huge dog (was it even a dog?) was growling at a black panther-like creature. They were engaged in a staring contest.
"That must be the cat my Mother warned us about." Illumi stated.
"Yeah alright, but what's with the dog-thing?"
"That's Mike, our family's dog."
I blinked, "uh-huh." If I had to guess, I'd say he resembles a nomu made from an animal corpse rather than a human's. "I'm sorry to say but your quote unquote dog seems to be losing."
"Hm, I see now why my mother warned us. That cat truly is a menace."
I studied the cat closer, it was gorgeous (A/N queue the star/heart eyes lol) it had sleek black fur with purple accents. If it were from my world, it'd be a black panther (an absolutely stunning one). Here in this world it's probably something else.
The cat pounced on the 'dog' (I refuse to consider that monstrosity an actual dog), and scratched his face. I felt a smile creep on my face at the sight.
"Hitoshi," Illumi started.
"Yes?"
"Mike seems to be failing his duties, we might have to step in."
"You… you want to fight a cat?"
"If it's necessary." he said, his face betraying no emotion.
I hid my face in my hands. He wants to fight a cat, what an absolutely great assassin. I think he misunderstood the assignment. "Can't you just let the cat do what it wants?" I asked.
"And when it comes over here to eat you?" He responded.
Did he just assume the cat would eat me? Who does he think I am? "First off, are you insinuating that you'd protect me? Second, who says I'll be the one who's eaten?"
He turned to face me, "I'll protect you Hitoshi." he said in all his seriousness.
I gazed at his ever stoic face. "Your 'dog' ran off." I said.
"Oh, you're right."
I erased his weird confession from my mind, I didn't need that to scar me for the rest of my life. I turned back to the beautiful and majestic creature making it's way over to us slowly. The cat stopped moving a few feet in front of us. It had glowing gold eyes that seemed as though they could stare into your soul.
I observed the cat in front of me, it was completely ignoring Illumi and had all it's attention focused on me. It looked at me for a few more seconds, before breaking eye-contact and running off into the distance. I looked at the retreating cat's back for a little while, that cat was something else.
"Hitoshi," Illumi said.
"Yes? What?" I responded, still staring at the now empty path.
"My family is waiting for us."
"Right of course, sorry, something about that cat…" I trailed off.
"Are you feeling ok?"
"Excuse me? If anyone here is off, it's you. Where the hell did these feelings come from? Usually you have them hidden, but they're going strong right now. Remember I can feel them."
"Just as I can feel yours. You're right, assassins shouldn't show emotions. I must be slipping."
He's slipping? No, I'm the one who's losing my mind. The hunter exam took my mind off things for a long while, so did fighting in Heavens Arena. I mean I accepted the fact that I live here now, emotionally connected to two crazy killers (who're- unfortunatly- rubbing off on me). I won't be going home, I fucking died. This is my home now, but I still don't even know why. Who was I sacrificed to? Why am I even still alive? Am I delusional? Just- dammit I just want some answers!
"Hitoshi, are you really feeling alright?"
I snapped my gaze up to Illumi. Hitoshi, you're in a bloody forest, you can't freak out here. Do it later.
"Yes, I'm fine, let's go." I walked off in a random direction. Illumi took a few long strides to catch up. "You do know you're going the wrong way?" he teased gently.
I stopped walking and glared bullets into his skull. "You're right, you are slipping." I stated, turning on my heel and walking in a different direction.
I didn't look back to gauge his reaction (not that his face would give anything away), the shock that seeped through the connection was enough.
I kept walking through the forest for a while, after a few minutes a person wearing a butler's suit came into my view. I came to a stop in front of them. "Welcome back Master Illumi." the butler bowed her head as he walked past. I followed him. "Oh, take care of that cat will you?" Illumi threw over his shoulder. "Of course Master Illumi."
I slowed my walk to a stop again in front of Illumi's 'house'. A mansion, of course. Can't expect anything less can I?
The doors opened automatically and we entered. I tilted my head to the right and not a second later a knife whizzed past my ear, where my head had just been. Interesting welcome.
Slow clapping came from the shadows in the front of the room. A man around 5'2" stepped out of them. "Good job, not everyone would have been prepared for that."
I inclined my head slightly in thanks. The man had a distinct resemblance to Killua, a grandfather maybe. "Hello, Grandfather." Ha, I knew it.
"Ah, Illumi, welcome back, Silva would like to see you and your guest. But before you go, mind introducing me to him?"
"This is Hitoshi Shinsou. We'll go see him right away." Illumi responded easily, his mask holding strong, no sign of his 'emotional' trip here.
"Pleasure to meet you Hitoshi, I am Zeno Zoldyck." he introduced.
I inclined my head again. Zeno gave Illumi one more glance and melted back into the shadows. We made our way through the mansion, twisting and turning in all sorts of directions. We stopped in front of another door yet again. Illumi pushed the door open and stood aside, letting me enter. We both stood in front of Silva, Illumi's dad. "So, Illumi, who's this you've brought with you?"
"This is Hitoshi Shinsou." Illumi gestured to me.
"Shinsou? I don't believe I'm familiar with the name." Silva said, turning his attention to me. Uh, yeah well I'm from another universe it's no wonder.
"You wouldn't be. He's kept to himself, if he hadn't he'd never catch a break." Illumi answered.
"Does he not speak?" Silva inquired.
"No."
"I see, are you saying he has something everyone wants?"
"I am."
I narrowed my eyes at Illumi, I don't want to be on any assassin's radar. It's bad enough people think my 'nen' makes people dance, if they knew what it really did I'd be hunted down and killed or something (not that they'd get close enough, but as shown the first time all you need to defeat me is an apple [and a quirk that makes you heavy?]).
Silva stood up and walked over to me, he stopped a foot away. His eyes glowed gently (gyo?). "Illumi," he said darkly, "what's this?"
"What do you mean?" Illumi feigned innocence.
"Don't play coy with me, what have you done?" Silva's aura grew darker.
"It was an accident."
"An accident? Why would you even try something like that?"
Illumi, don't you fucking dare.
"Hitoshi can brainwash people. It was for our safety." Illumi admitted. Ah, fuck you. If I die a second time I'm cursing you to hell and back.
"Brainwash…?" Silva focused his attention on me again, "Illumi, go get a servant." Illumi inclined his head and left. Bastard, he didn't need Illumi to go get someone, he just wanted me alone.
"If you really have this power, then I can see why Illumi brought you here. What an absolutely fascinating ability. Say, why don't you marry into this family? Your power could strengthen our family even more. Marry Illumi in fact, he seems to tolerate you, even though you can't speak."
Marry… Illumi? Yeah, no thanks. Marriage is the furthest thing from my mind right now, and unless this guy has a daughter or wouldn't mind having his wife fucked by another guy he ain't getting my offspring.
"How about it?" he pressed.
"No thanks," I said. I watched his eyes go blank. I turned to the door and observed Illumi walk back into the room. "Hitohsi, why'd you do that?" he pointed at Silva, who was staring blankly at a wall. I shrugged. "Free him." I released my hold on Silva. He blinked a few times and settled his eyes on me again. "Absolutely fascinating." He whispered, he turned to the servant, "Where's my wife?"
"Mistress Kikyo is out talking to the unwelcome guests." the servant replied.
"I see, inform her I'd like to see her, and also tell my Father I'd like to see Killua."
"Of course Master Silva." The servant bowed and left the room.
"Illumi, Hitohsi, how long will the two of you be staying?"
"A week at most, we have an impatient acquaintance waiting for us to return." Ha, don't let Hisoka know you called him an 'acquaintance'.
Silva said nothing for a while, retreating into his head (to plan a wedding no doubt). "I see, Illumi we unfortunately have no extra rooms available so you'll have to share yours."
Bullshit, y'all have an entire mansion, it's fine though, not like we haven't shared a bed before.
"Of course Father."
"Then you may leave."
Illumi and I left the dark room and made our way to his room.
"Your dad wants us to get married." I stated as soon as I was comfortably sitting on his bed.
Illumi blinked, "I'm assuming you don't want that?"
"You're assuming correctly." I nodded.
"Hisoka probably wouldn't like it if we did."
"Yeah."
"So, we won't get married?"
"Correct, but I wouldn't be opposed to cuddles and the occasional kiss."
"I understand."
"I'm glad you do."
Illumi gave a stiff nod.
So, after 15 chapters I finally figured out the plot! Yay! Also, there will probably be no pairing (but platonic cuddles and the occasional no-so-platonic kiss will probably still happen)
Thoughts?
