Jean let out a scream as she felt something crawling all over her. Bolting up in bed, she swiped herself in a wild frenzy to be rid of the creepy crawlies. "GET IT OFF GET IT OFF GET IT OFF!" She shrieked. Finally, the bugs disappeared into a whole in the wall, where they peeked out every few seconds. Jean shivered, watching the large cockroaches as they darted in and out of the hole.
Pebbs burst into the room, carrying her cane. "Jean! What's wrong?! Is there a robber?!" She cried, searching the room for an intruder. Flossie peeked around the corner, curious eyes surveying the scene.
Jean rocked back and forth on the mattress, staring into empty space. Pebbs squinted at the hole in the wall, walking over to inspect it.
She groaned at the sight of the cockroaches. "Looks like we have an infestation kids." She stated, standing back up. "Baby cockroaches."
Flossie giggled at Jean's reactions. Meanwhile, Jean went pale. "Babies?!Those things are huge! How can you call those babies?!" She shrieked, waving her arms around. Pebbs held a finger to her lips, shutting her up immediately. Pinching the bridge of her nose, she sighed. "Quiet down Jean. Alright, because of this infestation, I'll let the two of you have the day off. Floss can show you around the place, since you'll be staying until we can find your friends." She said, ushering the children outside. "Go on, before I change my mind." Closing the door, Pebbs left the children outside. Jean was still shivering from disgust, but Flossie was marching on the spot in excitement. "This is great! I can show you all of my favourite spots, and we can explore new and dangerous areas!"

Flossie and Jean trekked through the woods, the axolotl in the lead. Jean put her hands in her pockets, a bored expression on her face as she observed the surrounding woods. Something moved through the trees, catching the teens attention. Eyes widening in curiosity, she strayed off the path. Flossie noticed this. "Where are you going?" She asked, perplexed. Jean waved her hand, motioning for the axolotl to stay put. "I'm just gonna check this thing out. I'll be right back, I promise." She said, disappearing into the woods. At a loss of what to do, Flossie sat down, grabbing a nearby stick and proceeded to draw in the dirt.
"So much for a great adventure…" she mumbled sadly, oblivious to the footsteps heading her way. It was only when she felt something hit her head, bouncing to the ground as she let out a yelp of pain. Rubbing the spot she got hit, she looked down at the object, only to realise it was a rock. Her heart dropped when she heard a rustle in the bushes, realising who exactly threw it.
Standing up abruptly, she searched the surrounding area for any sign of life. "J-Jean? I wanna go home now-AGH!"
Flossie let out a scream as a pair of hands landed on her shoulder, before pushing her forward, causing her to stumble. Catching herself before she fell, the sound of laughter filled her ears as she turned to face the person who pushed her.
It was a toad child, surrounded by his two friends. The young axolotl knew this group all too well.
"Heya freak, whatcha doin' out here? You do remember this is our part of the woods, don't you?" The leader smirked, crossing his arms as his friends snickered.
Flossie smiled awkwardly, stepping away from the toads as her eyes darted between the amphibians and the surrounding forest. "O-of course I remembered! I was just passing through with a friend!" She chuckled nervously, fiddling with her hands.
The toad boys shared a look, smirking. "W-what?"
"Oh, nothing, just didn't think you'd get so lonely you'd start to have an imaginary friend!" They burst out laughing, and Flossie felt hurt. "Sh-she's not imaginary…" she mumbled, as the boys continued to pick on her.

Jean glanced behind her one last time, searching for any sign of the thing she'd seen. Seeing nothing, she let out a frustrated sigh as she made her way back to Flossie. "Sorry about that Floss, I swear I'd seen something-"
Hearing laughter sound out from Flossie's direction, Jean furrowed her brows. "That…didn't sound like Floss…" she muttered, making her way slowly and carefully toward the sound. Coming upon the clearing she'd left Flossie, her eyes widened when she caught sight of…large frogs…no, toads, picking at the young axolotl.
Flossie was rubbing her arm anxiously, tears pricking her eyes as one of the toads walked up to her. "You don't belong here, freak! Go back to where you came from!" With that, he shoved the little girl, sending her sprawling to the ground.
Jean, who'd been stunned at the sight of these toads, glared angrily at the toad who dared push her friend. "HEY! Leave her alone!" She shouted, coming out of the clearing. She thought the toads would scram at the horrific sight of her, but they instead gave Jean a weird look, before bursting out laughing.
Wiping a tear away, the leader gestured to the tall human. "What is that? That the friend you were talking about?! What are you, some weird bird?" He smirked, reaching behind him and pulling out a wooden slingshot. "You'll make GREAT target practice!"
Jean glared at the large toad child in front of her in rage. "Don't be tempted…he's a literal child…" she muttered to herself. Instead, she knelt down beside Flossie, helping her to her feet. "Sorry for leaving you like that…" she apologised. The toads had began launching rocks in their direction.
To protect Flossie from the sharp debris, she placed herself between the rocks and the child.
Feeling the sting of sharp rocks on her back, she guided the crying axolotl away from the bullies. The toads laughed at their retreating form. "That's right! Run away freaks!" They cackled.

When they were far enough away, Jean sat down, leaning against a tree. "….I'm sorry for leaving you there, Floss. If I'd known that those jerks were gonna be there…" she mumbled, avoiding eye contact. Flossie smiled, wiping away her tears as she joined the human. "I-it's fine! I'm just glad you came back and helped me get out of there." She said.
Jean shook her head. "No! I should've been there to help you! Because I left you alone I failed to protect you! I'm…a terrible friend…" She muttered sadly, leaning her head against her knees. Flossie was confused. "What do you mean? You had no way of knowing there were bullies, and you DID help me. You're not a terrible friend, you're the best person I know!"

Jean lifted her head, sending a smile to the axolotl. "Thanks, Floss. I…really needed to hear that." She said, resting her chin on her arms.
They sat in silence for a minute. Jean stood up, reaching a hand to Flossie. "C'mon, I have a plan. Where's that book you were reading last night?"

The two girls were now in Flossie's room. Pebbs curses could be heard from the next room, and Jean chuckled a little as she searched through Flossie's book. The young axolotl rubbed her arm nervously. "I-i don't know Jean. I've tried it before, and it's never worked…" she mumbled, as Jean pointed to the book excitedly. "Aha! Here it is!" Clearing her throat, she began.
"Most amphibians aren't capable of magic, but there are a selected few that can possess the power of one of these elements: fire, lightning, water, earth, and air. Other rare elements are included in the calamity stones." Jean looked up from the book, a little perplexed. "Huh, wonder what those are." She spaced out for a moment, thoughtful for a minute, but shrugged it off. "Nothing is known for how they're activated, but most believe it's from strong emotions, or rush of adrenaline. Other ways to activate these powers are yet to be found."
The human glanced up to Flossie, who was looking through another book. "So you've tried those two options?" She asked, to which Flossie nodded. "Yeah, neither have worked so far." She said, leaning on her hand for a minute. Jean smiled. "Well, I've watched a TON of anime, and they all have similar problems! We'll just go through their solutions and we'll eventually find one!" She grinned. Flossie's eyes widened in wonder. "Really!?" She asked excitedly. Jean nodded her head. "Just one question: what's anime?"

Jean and Flossie were now outside, and the human was getting Flossie to scream out. Pebbs came rushing out, covered in cockroaches and holding a cane as she rushed at Jean. Jean screamed, and Flossie rushed toward her mother to try and stop the newt from attacking the human.
A few minutes later, Jean held a piece of bark, crossing out the "screaming out the power" option.

Jean had Flossie attack a tree with a massive stick. Breaking the stick, Flossie looked down at it, before throwing it into the bushes. A loud roar sounded from the bush, and a large reptile bursted from the greenery. Flossie and Jean ran screaming from the area.
Jean crossed off the "attack an enemy" option.

Many attempts later, Jean and Flossie leaned against a tree, panting and covered in bruises. With an angry sigh, Jean broke the bark with the options on it in half. "That was a waste of time." She muttered. "I'm sorry Floss."
Floss stared at her in disbelief. "Sorry?! That had to be the best fun I've had in ages! So what if I don't have any powers? At least I got to spend time with you and have fun! Let's just not tell my mum that a giant lizard chased us through the woods." The two chuckled at the memory, and Jean smiled softly. "Yeah, you're right. Today was fun. Thanks again Flossie. It seems as if you're the one comforting me today."

As the two sat peacefully in the woods, chuckling could be heard in the distance, coming closer. Flossie looked worried for a moment, knowing who exactly it was. Jean placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it'll be ok. I'll go distract them while you get away. While I'm here, they won't pick on you." She said, standing up. Flossie paled. "What?! Jean, no!" She hissed. "They'll hurt you! They're toads!" Jean waved her hand. "Pssht, that's if they catch me!" With that, she headed into the woods, towards the sound of the toad children.
Flossie stood along, looking back toward the cabin then toward the direction Jean disappeared. Pulling at her hair anxiously, she paced around. Eyes tearing up, she stood up straight, and determinedly made her way after Jean.

"Get back here bird! I wanna know what you taste like!" Jean held her bleeding arm as she ran in the opposite direction of the voices, tripping through a small stream before stopping to catch her breath. They'd met her halfway and ambushed her, now she was running for her life. "Man, for kids they sure are messed up." She groaned, leaning against the tree she stopped by, panting for breath and hissing through for teeth when her arm throbbed in pain.
The chuckles of the boys grew louder, until they were right behind her.
"What's the matter bird? It's just a little knife!" The leader stated, twirling his dagger around experimentally, preparing to throw it.
"JEAN!"
Looking up, Jean realised Flossie had burst through the bushes, standing protectively in front of the human. She shook in fear, but stood her ground. "Leave her out of this! It's me you have beef with!" She yelled. Jean stared at the axolotl in disbelief, and so did the toads, before they laughed out loud.
"Trying to be a hero, freak? Alright then, take this!" Without warning, he threw his dagger at Flossie.
Time seemed to slow. Flossie felt the adrenaline rush through her veins. Holding her arms over her head protectively, she prepared herself for the sharp dagger headed her way. Yet, it never came.
Opening her eyes slowly, they widened in shock at the sight before her.
A large stream of floated in between her and the toad children. Following the floating stream, it ran into a tree, where the dagger that the toad leader had thrown stuck out.
The toads gasped in shock, while Jean's eyes were wide in admiration.
The stream fell to the ground, seeping into the ground, out of sight. Flossie stared at it in shock.
"What the heck was that?!" Before the axolotl could answer, one of the toad children charged, screaming out a battle cry. Flossie shrieked, holding her hands out in embrace for impact. The stream returned, swiftly knocking the toad child over.
The other toad children screamed in fear, before running off. The third joined, and all three disappeared into the woods.

Flossie held her hands in fear, scared that she would hurt someone else. Jean stepped forward, a bright smile on her face. "Floss, that was amazing! They're definitely not gonna come back any time soon!" She said, laughing. Flossie stared after them. "I…didn't mean to hurt them…" was all she could say.
Jean was quiet, noticing how Flossie held her own hands as if they were some sort of weapon. Kneeling beside the axolotl, she grinned. "They're fine, Floss! You didn't harm them! But do you know how cool you were? You were really brave for sticking up for me, and now you have magic! Something you've always wanted to have! And with a little more practise, you can use them for good!"
Flossie's eyes filled with joyful tears, and she looked down fondly at her hands. "Thanks, Jean. And you're right. It IS cool that I can finally use magic!"
The two chuckled, making their way back to the cabin.

At Toad Tower, a toad soldier hurriedly made their way inside. Hurrying up a flight of stairs, he panted for breath for a minute, waiting for Captain Grime to arrive.
"Now, what was SO important that you called me to the top of Toad Tower?" The captain grumbled, staring down angrily at the soldier. The soldier gulped, before whispering something into his ear. Grime's angry eyes widened in surprise, a smirk creeping to his face. "Well, what do you know." He chuckled, heading toward the corner of the room, where a cell sat. Leaning against the bars, he smirked into the darkness.
"My loyal soldier just informed me that there is yet another creature like you in Frog Valley. So, what do you have to say about that, Sasha?"
A bolt of lightning lit up the room, revealing a dishevelled blonde girl.

A/N: wow took me a while to do this one.
