Chapter 9
The tainted Seal
Touma coughed and sputtered as he crawled his way out of the filthy likely sewage water which was utterly disgusting but just his luck. "Such misfortune, now I literally smell like crap."
"Fitting for someone like you I should say, a bastard that feins compassion only to backstab another should reek like that" a newly familiar voice said. Touma turned "Muireann Conan, I am sorry I never meant it that way my friends thought I was in danger and stepped in to save me" he spoke calmly to the Selkie girl on the concrete walkway opposite of him in the sewers.
She brandished her two steel daggers which seemed to have been altered recently as they were tipped with something causing them to glitter. The Selkie rolled her eyes and glared at Touma "You will not fool me a second time Imagine Breaker bane of all fey." she then leapt from the walkway and launched herself off the lip of the concrete just before it touched the filthy water below and swung her daggers sideways and forward at Touma. Touma Ducked down and rolled backwards as Muireann landed missing him barley as her second dagger just stokes his spiky hair before he kicks her leg and gets up
"I'm gonna clear up a bit of a misunderstanding you seem to have, and correct the lie you've been told by your boss." he said while eyeing Muireann who spun one dagger around twice before pointing it at Touma "From here on out we fight, I will not answer you. you're just trying to get in my head." she declared to him while eying him carefully before lowering herself into a crouching pose and ran at him thrusting both daggers forward parallel to each other.
Touma Howeve lunged forward keeping his stomach flat and feet up so Muireann's dagger's passed below him as he moved into a forward roll using her head as a landing board and pivoted on his left elbow before rolling back into a standing position quickly turning around to face Muireann who was recovering from the impact
"If you truly had no intention to answer me and truly believed what you said you would not have spoken at all." he noted as he dodged a dagger swing to the side and leaned backwards to avoid the second, both attacks were frantic he realized.
Muireann paused for a moment but then shook her head and said in an almost whisper "He's just messing with you, don't let him trick you again." she then went quiet and charged Touma stabbing one dagger forward while swinging the other diagonally downwards to the left.
Touma to avoid it stepped to the side and tilted his body diagonally right avoiding both. He then bent down and grabbed her right foot with his left hand and tugged causing Muireann to trip.
"You are doubting yourself, if I had any intention to harm you I'd have used my right hand now wouldn't I?" he pointed out causing Muireann to yell in rage and slice at his foot.
Touma wasn't prepared this time, having just tripped her and expecting her to try and get up. He howled in pain as Muireann's dagger sliced the top of his foot carving through flesh and shoe.
He stumbled back as Muireann got up shaking her head "Heh, you really think I'm gonna fall for your tricks anymore" she confidently spoke, but her eyes held uncertainty. "You will need to try harder than that." she said that and took a small vial from her pocket.
Touma felt dizzy and groggy, but he noticed the dagger she had sliced him with had less of a shine on the edge than earlier, sure it was still more reflective than the rest, if you ignored all the blood on it but, I was missing something. "Those are p-poisoned aren't they?" Touma spoke but his words came out slowly.
Muireann shook her head "No but they were drugged." she then placed more of whatever drug she had in that vial onto her dagger.
"It'll make you tired but won't kill you, I suspect you'd somehow survive if I used lethal poison due to some misfortunate series of events." She then grinned smugly before taking out a can from her pocket and rolling it towards Touma on the ground.
Touma stumbled around as he tried to shake off the drowsiness but then stepped on the can that Muireann rolled towards him and fell forward only to see Muireann there with her daggers ready to hit him as he fell.
He then noticed how his right hand was in a collision course with her face as he had thrown it out to catch his adrenaline skyrocketed as he found himself in this life threatening situation for both of them. Time slowed for him and the drowsiness was thrown aside as the adrenaline in his body focused on one task.
Keep them both alive, to do so Touma twisted his body to the right so his left arm would be the thing the daggers hit instead of his lower and upper torso. His right hand was pointed away from Muireann this way so that she wouldn't be harmed by it.
"AARRRGHHHHHHAAAA…. Nnnmmmmm" Touma screamed and then moaned in agony as he hit the daggers and then clutched his left arm with his right as Muireann pulled her daggers out.
Muireann's face had shock and disbelief written all over it. "You didn't use your right hand? No not possible, people will reveal their true nature when under pressure and in life threatening situations. But you didn't even attempt to harm me, you just made it so you wouldn't die without harming me?"
she stumbled back regret and guilt all over her face. "But that means, because you did that. Oh oh by Fand what have I done?" Touma had collapsed on the ground unconscious. The adrenaline only gave a temporary boost and not actually having gotten rid of the effects of the drug.
Muireann walked over and knelt down tears in her eyes, she picked him up placing him on her back but placing his right hand in his pocket. "I need to get him to the hospital, now." she muttered as she began to wander through the Sewers.
She glanced at Touma who even though she had made a move to kill him and had been knocked unconscious seemed to be sleeping peacefully if somewhat drained.
"That bastard lied to all of us about you" she spoke to herself as she continued to walk. "And I know that because no one, no one can fake that kind of thing. You never once tried to hurt me badly, only inconvenience me. Even when you were about to die and adrenaline pumped its way through your system you didn't attack me" she looked upwards as she then thought to herself. 'Shame that I didn't realize sooner'
After a while of walking Muireann found a suitable exit to the sewers farther away from the battle that her allies were in.
By placing Touma down, climbing up and opening the man hole before returning back down to carry Touma up she managed to get him out into an empty parking lot. The sky was overcast and it was getting dark, so she placed Touma onto a bench near a payphone and dialed the emergency line.
After informing them of Touma's whereabouts she hung up. Whent to a nearby trash bin and looked inside to find some old clothing. She used a cloth to wipe the drug off her dagger and cut one of the pieces of cloth apart using it to wrap Touma's arm injury, and a second to stop the bleeding of his foot.
"You really are a mess, and it's my fault" she spoke knowing no one would hear her. "I'm gonna beat the shit out of the bastard that lied to us about you."
sirens were heard in the distance and she disappeared before the ambulance arrived. She however stayed nearby in order to watch and make sure Touma made it. When the ambulance left she followed as best she could till it arrived at a hospital in district 7 where it stopped and brought him in.
Muireann breathed a sigh of relief "Okay, he's safe now but how will I check on him? I'd feel like I half assed this if I didn't make sure he was truly okay." she then began to ponder how to enter the building without raising suspicion.
But then realized "Wait, I can just waltz in there can't I?" she waited a few minutes before walking in the front entrance and a few stares were sent her way. But the way they looked at her was almost as if they knew why she was here. She walked up to the receptionist and said "Is Kamijou Touma here I'd like to visit him if I can."
The receptionist sighed and she heard mutters of "Of course" from all around.
The receptionist looked at her and then smiled "Yes when he's out of surgery you can go see him. Please sign this form while you wait."
she handed Muireann a sheet of paper asking her relationship to the patient she had gotten through the security gate with fair ease her people weren't dumb so she had a ID that allowed her to access facilities in the city.
But this was out of her depth, she was a fighter so something like visiting someone laid up in the hospital by her own actions no less was not something she was comfortable doing. She circled the option of "friend" as she couldn't go and circle any that would bring her actions against him to light.
The receptionist raised a eyebrow when looking at her choice and said "Let me guess you and him got into a fight and he got in your head"
When she saw Muireann panicked blushing she laughed "Don't worry, your not the first person to have been in that position nor will you be the last, so as long as a nurse accompanies you to his room I think we'll be fine. We are a bit more lax with those who visit our dear Kamijou-san as he tends to attract a lot of odd people."
Muireann stopped when she heard the receptionist "What? but what if someone uses this kind of excuse to harm him?" she asked while thinking 'Did she call him Kamijou-san? She did, didn't she how many times has the Imagine Breaker been here?'
The nurse smiled again looking at her and said "Oh please those who like him have and regret their actions towards him have a particular feel and look to them, you have that exact feel and look. Don't worry this place is a neutral area at least that's what the doctor says." she then guided Muireann to the guest waiting rooms and had her sit down before leaving
Muireann took a breath and observed the room in case anything showed up.
"Looks like Kami-nyah got to you didn't he?" a voice behind her said and she whipped around to see a familiar blond from the classroom
"Whoa whoa, calm down Muireann, I'm not here to harm you" said Tsuchimikado smiling. "So take your hand away from your hidden daggers and lets talk."
