The Decision
"You gotta give it to the girl- the wedding décor is amazing!"
"All I have to give her is a black eye when she gets back from her honeymoon for making me wear a pink bridesmaid gown with pink hair!"
Sakura had been grumpy all morning and Tenten was quite over it. She threw her hands on her hips and stared daggers at Sakura while she finished getting dressed.
"Alright Ms. Grumpy-pants! What is your malfunction? You've been like this all-damn day!"
Sakura finished positioning her kimono and sighed. She bent down and grabbed her shoes, then responded to her friend.
"Kakashi and I… ugh, I can't even make myself say it!"
Tenten's face quickly morphed into concern and she moved to sit on the couch next to Sakura.
"What happened? Are you okay? Is Kakashi okay?"
Sakura sat in silence and continued to fumble with her shoes. Tenten quickly grabbed the shoes and threw them across the room.
"Sakura! Give me something to work with here! I'm starting to freak!"
"We had sex last night!"
Tenten eyes progressively widened as Sakura quickly finished her sentence.
"Oh my God, Sakura! That's amazing!"
Sakura's silence quickly morphed Tenten's excitement to concern.
"This is a good thing… right? I mean… you two have been together for a while."
Forgoing concern for her hairstyle, Sakura plopped back on the couch and managed not to wince. She thought about soothing her muscles with chakra remembered that she literally couldn't. Apparently the last 12 hours had made her even more of a masochist.
"I don't know, Tenten. It was… just so weird! And slightly uncomfortable- well not the act itself but doing it with Kakashi. I felt so awkward!"
Tenten smiled gently and took Sakura's hand.
"Totally normal, Sakura. I don't think anyone in our group thought their first time was anything less than awkward."
Sakura looked up at Tenten through her lashes in confusion.
"Did you guys start a club or something?"
"No, but when Ino wants information, she gets it. You know this."
"She never asked me anything!"
"I'm pretty sure it's because she knew you weren't sexually active, Sakura." Tenten responded dryly. Tenten's face quickly morphed back into concern.
"Weren't you… inebriated last night, Sakura? I'm pretty sure Kakashi had to carry you out of the bar."
Sakura stood and waved away her concern.
"You know I don't really drink. I did have more than I normally would last night, but I wasn't drunk. Kakashi carried me home because my feet were killing me."
"Ugh, same. Those shoes were fucking killer, though."
"Indeed, they were."
Sakura's mind quickly thought back to yesterday and two very pertinent things popped into her mind. The first was that she used chakra last night and wasn't supposed to. Now she had to seek out Tsunade and get examined before the wedding. That was scary enough on its own, but the second thing literally made her fall to the ground.
"…Fuck!"
Tenten quick ran to Sakura's side and put her on the couch.
"Oh, shit! Ino get in here! Sakura, are you okay? Talk to me!"
"Tsunade is going to kill me! Shit shit shit!"
Ino quickly entered the room from the hallway.
"Forehead! What's going on?"
Sakura looked down and began to cry. She couldn't say the words aloud that were circling in her head.
Kakashi lounged comfortably on the couch in Sai's dressing room watching him glare at Naruto as he helped him with his kimono.
"Why are you even having a traditional wedding ceremony? You had a bachelor party!"
"For the hundredth time, Naruto- Ino wanted both."
"Wait, I have to sit through two weddings?! Like today?! Aw, man!"
Sai rolled his eyes and pushed Naruto's hands away.
"The other ceremony is later this year, Naruto."
"… I can't decide whether that's worse or not."
"Honestly, neither can I."
"Why didn't you just tell her to choose one?"
"…Have you ever seen anybody tell Ino to choose anything?"
"No."
"Then you have your answer."
"Yeah, but she has to learn at-"
"Kakashi!"
Kakashi had already sensed someone rushing towards them and his head was turned towards the doorway. Tenten was fully dressed and panicking. She scanned the room and put on a fake smile for the other two, then turned back to Kakashi.
"A word, please?"
"Tenten? Is everyth-"
"Everything is fine, just wanted to run something by you. We'll be just a minute, guys."
Tenten proceeded to drag Kakashi down the hall towards Ino's dressing room.
"Sakura is losing her shit, and you need to undo it before she and Ino come to blows."
"What? What's going on, Tenten?"
"I… think it's best that you talk to Sakura, Kakashi."
As they rounded the corner, Ino could be heard screeching down the hall.
"What do you mean you used chakra last night? You literally had one job and it was not to use chakra! Now Tsunade is going to kill us both!"
"Ino, please-"
"No, Sakura! No begging! Goddamnit, I told her you couldn't do it!"
"Ino. Enough."
The sound of Kakashi's voice made both women pause. Kakashi walked over to Sakura and kneeled in front of her. Tears of panic were streaming down her face, but she didn't seem to notice or care.
"When did you use your chakra yesterday?"
"At the pub, right after we got there. My feet were killing me, so I pushed a little to them. It wasn't enough for anyone to notice."
Kakashi considered Sakura for a few moments before speaking.
"Ladies, do you mind if we borrow this room for a few?"
Ino thought to say something, but Kakashi's tone made her reconsider. She instead turned on her heels and walked towards the door.
"We'll finish getting ready in the other suite. Come there to get your makeup redone. You have about 10 minutes."
Tenten looked at Sakura in sympathy, then walked out and closed the door behind her.
"Not using chakra this weekend was more of a precaution than a requirement. You were aware this… so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you aren't concerned about that."
Sakura wouldn't look at Kakashi and balled her hands up in the sleeves of her kimono.
"I'm fine, Kakashi. I don't know why Tenten grabbed you. I thought she was going to look for Tsunade."
Sakura made to stand and Kakashi's words put her right back on the couch.
"Is this about last night?"
"Is what about last night?"
"Sakura."
"What? I told you I was fine, Kakashi."
"You know if you'd actually make eye contact, I'd be more inclined to believe you."
Kakashi's tone had morphed from concern to sarcasm. He stood and walked to the nearest window.
"Was last night a mistake, Sakura?"
"…Not in the way that you're thinking."
"That's… reassuring. You know what? I think I'll go find Tsunade."
"Kakashi. Please let me-"
"Today isn't about either of us, Sakura. Pull it together so that Ino can get the first part of her happily ever after."
Kakashi disappeared in a puff of smoke before Sakura could pull her thoughts together.
"Fuck!"
Sakura picked up the pillow next to her and buried her ruined face in it. A few minutes later the door slammed open.
"There better be a very good reason for this ruckus you've caused, girl. Ino is spitting nails and Kakashi isn't in much of a better mood."
Sakura answered her teacher with her head still buried in the pillow.
"I used chakra last night. For pain relief."
"Your feet?"
"Yes."
"Those shoes were killer. Sit up on the damn couch so I can examine you."
Tsunade winced when she got a look at Sakura's face.
"Let's make this quick. Whoever has to re-do your makeup has their work cut out for them."
Tsunade quickly examined Sakura and saw nothing abnormal.
"You're fine. Monitor your vitals and let me know if they change even slightly today."
"Okay. Thank you, Lady Tsunade."
Tsunade slammed the bottle of alcohol she'd brought with her down on the vanity.
"Alright! Cut the shit, Sakura. What are you actually upset about?"
"I'm not on birth control and haven't been in weeks."
"Side effects from withdrawal hitting you that hard? We'll try something different once you're ready to resume them."
"No, you misunderstand."
"Then explain it to me and make it quick! My patience has worn thin."
"I really don't want or need to talk about this-"
"Too damn bad! You clearly didn't say anything to Kakashi or your friends, so now you're left with me. Out with it. Now!"
"Lady Tsu-"
"Sakura!"
"I had unprotected sex last night and I haven't been on birth control for weeks!"
Sakura could barely get the words out before she started sobbing.
Tsunade froze and turned her head towards her former student.
"You… what now?"
"I had unprotected sex several times last night- "
"Dear GOD. Spare me the gruesome details."
Tsunade downed a 1/3 of the bottle she had her hand on, then sighed deeply before she spoke.
"You know better, girl. I have no interest in standing here and lecturing you, so I'll tell you that you have options instead. You can let the fates decide, or we can handle this."
Sakura took her hands off her face.
"Handle? What do you mean?"
"There is a technique that I never taught you… you have the chakra control to perform it. I just… never thought you'd need it. Silly me, I guess. People make mistakes every day, human nature and all that shit."
Tsunade turned to look at Sakura, then continued.
"Simply put, we can cause the uterus to contract enough for a few days to prevent the pregnancy. It's not comfortable, but the success rate is about 99 percent. There is also something we can make… but its potent shit. It could make you infertile. I assume you want children, just not right now."
Sakura didn't answer Tsunade because she honestly didn't know whether she was ready to be a parent. She hadn't thought about it.
"I'm guessing from Kakashi's mood when he found me that he thinks you're panicking about the act rather than the consequences?"
Sakura nodded slowly.
"I wasn't very honest when he asked what was going on."
"Kakashi has been through shit you can't even imagine, Sakura. If you want to be with a man that has the kind of past and emotional trauma that he has, you need to grow up. Now. You won't make it otherwise."
Tsunade sighed again and took another sip from here bottle. You need to decide what you want, Sakura. Tonight, at the latest. I'm not helping you make this decision, so wipe that look off your face. But I will offer you a piece of advice. You want to stay with Kakashi? Talk to him about it before you let me know what you want to do. Tenten! Get in here!"
The door quickly opened.
"Lady Tsunade?"
"Help Sakura make herself presentable. You've got less than twenty minutes to make that happen. Best of luck."
Tsunade then grabbed the bottle and walked out of the room, leaving the door open behind her.
Tenten then moved to see the damage Sakura had done to her makeup.
"Luckily your base survived waterworks. Your eyes, on the other hand… yikes. Any chance you can reduce the redness and puffiness with chakra?
Sakura quickly pressed her hands to her eyes and did something she was way too good at, thanks to Tsunade.
"Perfect! You only need a little more liner and mascara. Let me go get the bulletproof stuff, though."
"Got it right here, Tenten."
Ino handed over the products, and Tenten set to work.
"You wanna tell me what the fuck is going on, Forehead?"
"I can't, Ino. Not until I talk to Kakashi."
Ino glared at Sakura, then counted to ten to calm down.
"Fine. You gonna be okay? After all the chakra bullshit?"
"I'll be fine, Pig. And I'm sorry for ruining your wedding morning."
Ino waved away her apology.
"We're still going to be on time. No big deal."
"All done! Good as new."
Ino inspected Tenten's work and nodded.
"Good work. Everyone else is ready downstairs. Let's make me a married woman!"
