Chapter 4
Yuugi, in his excitement went over to the door and opened it to reveal a tall, imposing man dressed in black, the school insignia on the left collar with his hair pointed forward, sunglasses covering his eyes.
At first he felt silently pleased that his hair is not the only one out of place in this country. But then, he remembered his manners and shyly bowed his head.
"Yami Mutou?" the man inquired as he looked at the small kid standing in the doorway. Not believing his eyes as he was met with not the person he had in mind.
Yuugi gestured inside and moved back as to let the man enter their quaint place. He then moved to stand beside his brother who was standing beside their grandfather near the sofa.
"Congratulations for winning the lottery." the man greeted Yami in a monotone. "I'm here to give the letter from the Academy pertaining to the scholarship."
And handed out a cream colored envelope, sealed with the school logo and Yami's name on top, written in elegant script.
Yami shook his head as he pushed the envelope back. He then let out a sigh then glance at his family; Yuugi with a smiling and expectant face, their grandfather looking at him with an unreadable expression in his face.
But he knew deep inside that the elder was beaming with pride inside, his grandson chosen to be a scholar by one of the most prestigious schools in the world.
He knew his next words will break Yuugi's hope and dream.
"There must be some mistake, sir." he told the man, his crimson eyes looking up at the figure. "I'm not going to Prince Charming Academy."
The man let out a sigh. "With due respect, Mr. Mutou. You're given a week to prepare yourself. By then, matters concerning your affiliations are supposed to have been taken care of by then."
Yami felt insulted by the way the man pronounced it. It's not like being a waiter is a bad thing. It just doesn't bring much money on the table.
But still, he is proud to be one. And his responsibility to his family weighs far more than his dreams. For him, Yugi getting through school would be enough and his grandfather having enough to spend for his medicines.
"Yes, you are." Yuugi piped up.
He smiled sheepishly at the man then took Yugi's hand as he took the younger with him to the kitchens.
"Yuugi, I don't belong with a bunch of Princes and Lord Royals. Look at me, I'm a waiter. I got towels in my pocket and flour on my socks."
Yuugi looked up at his older brother and knew the other was striving hard for their wellbeing and would rather give up his dreams just for their sake.
He wanted to tell the older that it's time that he make a path for himself. But all he could do was smile and comment.
"You look perfect."
Yami smiled at his brother's comment and ruffled the younger's hair. "Thank you but the other boys wouldn't think of it that way. And I have responsibilities here."
Yuugi shook his head. "Yami…"
The older shook his head and let out a sigh. "No, Yuugi. I won't go."
Yuugi looked up at him and wanted to rage and cry. He had worked so hard to get his brother in the competition. And he would just throw away the chance like it was nothing.
But he knew that his brother was stubborn. And that nothing could make him change his mind when he had set his mind to it.
Although he wished that he would reconsider.
When they got back to the living room, the tall imposing man was still standing there. His gloved hands folded in front of him. With an impassive look on his face.
The two brothers stood beside their grandfather who was leaning on his cane while looking at the man. Yami looked at the letter that was still being held out to him.
But his decision was already made up.
"I'm sorry sir, I'm not really entering Prince Charming Academy." he repeated, and declined the opportunity presented to himself.
The man didn't indicate anything. He strode forward, took Yami's hand(much to his surprise) and placed the letter on it.
"As I said, you have a week to think about it." the man told him and then took a step back. "I'll be fetching you a week from now." he added.
Then left them, closing the door quietly with a click.
Yuugi went to his room after cleaning himself and saw much to his chagrin and surprise to see his brother sitting on the foot of his bed, looking outside the window.
"Yami?" he called his brother timidly. Afraid that the older was still quite angry at him.
Yami jolted from his thoughts and looked towards his brother who was standing in the doorway. He knew that the other was feeling a little remorseful about what he did.
And he knew that the younger only did it for him.
He chuckled as he looked at his brother. "Yuugi, what are you doing in the doorway? Come in."
The younger shuffled slowly inside the room, head bowed. "I thought you might be angry with me."
The older raised an eyebrow. "Why would I be?"
"I went behind your back and entered you in the lottery without your permission." Yuugi admitted and slowly lifted his head to look at the older. "And tried to force you to-"
"I'm not angry." Yami interrupted as he looked at his brother and his heart ache at the sight. Yuugi looked like he was in trouble for what he had done.
"You're not?" Yuugi asked, as he looked at the older, his eyes wide and glistened with tears.
Yami smiled at the younger and nodded. "Yes, I'm not." he then opened his arms and without telling him to, the younger dove himself in the comforts of the older's arms.
The older smiled and wrapped his arms around his younger brother's small frame as the other cried onto his chest, his tears drenching his shirt.
"I will never get angry with you, Yuugi. Not ever." he whispered in the other's ear, as he rested his head on his brother's shoulder.
A tear slid down his cheek as he cried softly to himself.
"It's you who has the right to be angry at me." he thought as he tightened his hold on the younger. "I know you were only doing it for me, but I selfishly threw away your dream for me."
Unknown to them, a pair of eyes were watching the embrace with a small smile on his face.
