This was supposed to be last two days ago, but I wasn't able to make anything for the cliffhanger last chapter.
Anyways, Happy New Year!
Chapter 8
Mahad let out an exasperated sigh beside Yami as he shook his head at his assistant's clumsiness. He then turned to the younger male and gestured to his assistant. "This is Mana, your assistant."
Mana bowed in greeting and took out a handkerchief from her pocket and began wiping the mess on his blazer. "I'm sorry. I should have been more careful. I just wanted to greet you with the traditional welcome frappucino."
Mahad said. "Usually they are punctual and helpful."
Yami shrugged as he smiled kindly at her. "There's nothing to forgive, although if you have accompanied it with a cupcake, I would be a complete meal." he chuckled good-naturedly.
The headmaster then looked at his assistant-which is now Yami's and spoke. "I trust you could take it from here on."
Mana nodded and both her and Yami watched as the headmaster went on his way, his stance regal and respectful as was expected of someone of his bearing and status.
Yami then turned to her and she blushed as she couldn't believe that such a man was looking at her. It wasn't that he wasn't good looking, but he was and his crimson eyes added to that effect.
She knew that such people, whose eyes are green like hers, blue, violet are considered rare. But crimson are rarer still.
His eyes were like wine freshly grounded.
She shook her head and then walked passed the lockers, aware of his presence behind her and gestured to one of the lockers near the library he had exited earlier.
The one second to the right.
"This is your locker." she gestured. Then produced a slip of paper from her pocket. "And this is your locker combination." she said as she handed it to him.
He took it silently and couldn't believe that he's experiencing something that he had given up a long time ago.
"This...is my locker?" he asked, as he turned his head to look at her who nodded her head in agreement.
He took the rounded padlock in his hands and entered the appropriate combination as he remembered from the slip of paper.
The locker door opened in a quiet swing, showing shelves. With various objects displayed in it. Things that he needed for this school, he supposed.
"As you see these are the things that a Lord Royal in training needs. Notebooks, pens, extra pair of shoes." she grinned humorously as she took the black leather shoes of the shelf and showed it to him.
He held his hands in front of him. "Quite a lot to take in. But I do appreciate the gesture." he then looked down at his shoes. "Although, I like my shoes better, thank you very much."
She smiled and took a step back as he gathered his things.
"Are you settled?" she asked. He nodded and he let her lead the way around the school.
As they walked in the school's halls, they talked about themselves, their inspirations at most. He couldn't help but find her companionship pleasant to say the least.
She wasn't privy to his life and he wasn't privy to hers. And to his horror, she was the same age as him, if not a month younger.
But...he liked her the same way.
He couldn't explain it...but it was the same that he treated Jounouchi and all his other friends. And that she was like a sister to him, although it wasn't a day over yet that they knew it each other.
"You know…" she drifted off as she looked out of the window. "Master Mahad isn't that strict once you get to know him."
He chuckled. "Yes, I know. He's strict if it need be but I can see that he cares a lot for every student."
She let out a weak chuckle. "Yes, and he's kind too. Although, it pains him to see all the lottery students that enter this school, all go with barely a mark to their name."
He frowned as he considered this. But as he saw her expression, he never asked her anymore.
It seems that there are things better left unsaid.
As they walked through the halls, laughing quietly with each other, he didn't noticed that a person was walking towards him.
Only did he, when his things fell to the floor in a clatter. And he looked up to see scornful blue eyes looking down at him with disdain.
And disgust? He couldn't tell.
But he could sense the taller's aura spilling out of him. Pride. And he frowned. Just because he was of lowborn status doesn't give the other the right to look at him like he was the ground at the bottom of his shoes.
He flitted his eyes to the ground as he bowed his head. "I'm sorry."
The other smirked. "So, it's Yami Mutou. The lottery winner." he said with such heavy sarcasm.
It seems the title 'lottery winner' will stick to him. And he slightly winced. But looked up to meet the other's eyes with a glare.
Mana bristled then spoke up to defend her friend. "Seto! That's-"
Seto shot her a withering glare and she shut up. Afraid to speak up worse could happen.
Even if he's not yet crowned prince, Seto still have power over them as the heir to the throne. And anything done to him could greatly end in disaster.
And worse, she looked towards her friend and was shocked to see him looking at Seto with a glare that could make a king proud.
As if he radiated power and authority itself.
How could someone of low status exude such regal air?
"Why look at me with much hostility, Yami." Seto sneered the other's name. "You should be glad that I didn't have you expelled at the lack of respect for someone with a status like I do."
Yami didn't speak as he just glared at Seto and didn't waver as the the older's smirk grew wide. And walked past him. Hands in his pockets.
"Maybe you should learn to give respect to others, Seto."
That statement made the future prince turned halfway to face him. He hated to admit that he was in a way proud that someone like Yami spoke to him like that.
But, people like him are not meant to treat him that way.
"Oh?" he snorted. "Pardon?" he asked of the shorter male. Then glared. The other didn't waver nor flinch from his glare.
Yami turned to meet the other's glare and smirked. "Respect is not given, it is earned. And you would do well to know that."
"Really?" he chuckled. Then frowned. "You're in no place to talk to me that way, commoner." he spat, turned on his heel and walked away.
Yami watched as the other's form disappeared into the distance. And let out a sigh.
He wasn't expecting that.
What a good way to start a school year.
