Chapter 9
Mana felt rather uneasy as the atmosphere settled around the two of them right after Seto had disappeared. For starters, this was the first time that she had heard and seen someone stood up against Seto like Yami did awhile ago.
The soon-to-be prince was known for his pride and 'I'm superior than all of you' attitude. For he was raised in the lap of a very powerful and influential family.
But she had met some really nice ones from around here that came from the same families. And seemed to exude an aura of pleasantness when talking to her, like she was an equal to them.
Her eyes watched as Yami bent down to pick up his things and let out a sigh as he turned to look at the doorway where Seto had disappeared awhile ago.
Then back to her.
She had gathered all her wits around her and pasted a somewhat strained cheerful smile on her face. "As you can see...everyone here is kind...well, almost."
He didn't speak. His crimson eyes intent on something.
"I'll show you your room then." she mumbled as she led the way to the boys' dormitory.
Their walk was quiet as they trudged through the halls, their steps clicking against the tile floor. She bit her lip as she pondered on her thoughts, wondering what she was going to say.
It may seemed that Yami was bothered by something.
And she doesn't have the right to ask him what it was that made him so distant like he was not there in the moment.
All the same, she wanted to cheer him up. But couldn't find the words to not make her sound like she was prying.
It's best to leave things as they are.
Mahad let out a sigh as he sat down behind his pine oak desk and removed his headdress then placed it on the table.
His eyes then landed on the folder infront of him. Opened to the data of Yami Mutou. With a picture of him clipped at the right side of the document.
He was considering to close it and have Mana filed it along with the rest of the students' files when his eyes caught something on the paper.
With shaking hands, he picked up the document and looked at the information under the Parents. And let out a gasp as he couldn't believe at what he had seen.
For all he knew since he became the Headmaster of the Academy, his was the first case to have been like this. Most students of either royal or noble status were either orphaned at the time they came to the school but was raised by near relatives.
But this, this was something that he had encountered for the first time since he became part of the school.
And the first among many.
He let out a sigh, and his thoughts drifted back to the time he had seen the student. It was something that he would never forget for he had never seen or felt anything from any other student.
Other than the prince-to-be himself.
But what he felt was way different than the latter. It was something that screams an entirely different aura than what most uptight royals have.
His mind flashed back to the moment.
Flashback…
He was watching from one of the windows on the second floor as the new student arrived and seemed to be amazed at the environment around him but seemed to make up his mind and had walked up the stairs towards the school's doors.
He hated to admit that he was curious about the student for he had never seen anyone like him. So, he came to meet him personally other than let his assistant, Mana handle the usual protocol.
But he never expected to find the him on the floor with a large cheetah on top of him. Some royals would instantly cause a ruckus near a dangerous animal such as a cheetah.
And to make it even more confusing, the cheetah had let him scratched under his chin as the cat never did for the other students.
Not even Seto.
So, he is even more curious as to what this student possess right at the moment. As he stood there at the top of the stairs, he watched as the boy interacted with the cat as if they have grown to be great friends.
After he cleared his throat did he get a chance to see what the student had in store for him. He watched with utter amazement as he eased himself off the floor gracefully, like he was trained to do so.
And had stood with a regal air like he was not of common blood. Like he was someone born of royalty.
Although he was confused at the rate things are.
A knock woke him from his musings and he looked up to answer. "Come in."
The door opened and in came a stout man wearing a long sleeve robe that reaches to the ground, with an indigo sash right across his body, and a tall hat with the eye of Horus at bottom center of the hat.
"Vizier Siamun." he greeted with a slight gasp as he stood up then quickly bowed his head then looked up again. "What brings you here?"
It is uncommon for the Pharaoh's vizier, or in their case, the late Pharaoh's vizier to come unnannounced from the royal palace.
The old man walked towards the desk, his hands clasped behind his back. "It have come to my attention that a new student had caused quite a ruckus here in this school." he said seriously. "And I have come to see for myself."
Mahad let out an exasperated sigh. "There's nothing to worry about, Vizier. It would be seen to as soon as possible."
The older shook his head. "There's no need for any interference, Mahad. It would do more harm than good if it was known. And besides…" he chuckled, much to the other's chagrin. "I would like to see this student for myself."
"Master Vizier…" the headmaster started to protest.
"That's enough, Mahad." Siamun said, his amethyst eyes boring into the older's. "I see no cause to not meet this student. And if you will excuse me."
Mahad nodded. Speechless.
The vizier exited out of the room, closing the door after him with a soft click. And he let out a sigh.
It seems that it was other than him who had the same curiousity for the new student. Although he was wondering how the student would fare in this kind of world.
"This is your room." Mana gestured as she opened the door wide to let him see the interior. His eyes widened as he took in the room in its entirety.
Decorated in shades of blue and gold, with a half length window spanning from left to right the front of the room. Three beds with flowing canopy and pillows of different sizes were placed in exact distances from each other with a chest at the foot of each bed.
And study desks were placed at the side of room next to the beds, with numerous implements placed on top of each, saved for the desk which was supposed to be his.
As he was standing at the doorway, wondering what to do in this situation, a blond spiky haired youth sauntered up to him with a ball tucked under his arm.
"I'm Marik." the boy introduced. "And you are?"
"I'm Yami." he answered with a slight bow. "Nice to meet you."
"Prince or Lord Royal?" Marik inquired without any sort of sarcasm in his voice. And also with his indigo eyes.
"Lord Royal." he answered simply.
"I'm a Prince same with Ryou." Marik introduced and turned slightly to the side to gesture towards an albino with white hair.
Who in turn, turned his head to look at them and bowed his head in greeting then turned back to the book he was reading, his earphones on his ear.
"Forgive him." Marik chuckled as he shook his head. "Never seemed to socialize with anyone."
Yami smiled politely to the boy then turned to look at Mana. Which caught Marik's attention.
"Your girlfriend?" Marik inquired with a joke.
He shook his head, but with a slight blush forming his cheeks. And was about to answer when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
And he looked up to see Marik smiling up at him. "No worries, besides, no need to to worry, you're part of us now,"
And for the first since he came here, he felt relieved.
Somewhat.
