I don't own Naruto or any of the characters. Kishimoto-san does. If he gave me the Naruto franchise, THEN I'D OWN NARUTO!

The Alphabet with NaruHina!
O is for Obsolete
Hinata was finding herself feeling bored lately. She was no longer in school and would be homeschooled until fall of a brand new school year; at a brand new school. She fingered at the raised skin along the base of her neck. It wasn't too bad of a scar and the doctor said it would fade by the time she became a young 'woman'. She worked hard to be in better health. Her father was proud. Her little sister often times would help when he wasn't looking so that she didn't push herself too hard. Hinata was already considered the weakest link of the Hyūga prodigies, the least she could do was prove them wrong.
"Nee-san! Mitsuko-chan's here." She heard Hanabi call from one of the corridors of the estate.
"Coming!"
Hinata hadn't seen Mitsuko in months. She came to visit her one time for a few hours to which they played to forget about the Leaf Academy. Mitsuko hadn't been back since then and now that Hinata felt better, she had questions. Why was she avoiding her? Had she been mad at her all this time? Was she okay? Were they still best friends? These questions swam in Hinata's mind as she descended the stairs to enter the main room of her home. "Hey.. 'Hina-chan." Mitsuko cautiously greets. She had a pot of sunflowers in her hand.
"These are for you."
"Arigatō." Hinata took the pottery in her hands and set them down in a nearby windowsill. Forget the flowers, where had she been all this time?! Mitsuko's gaze was everywhere else as her body fidgets uncomfortably. She couldn't stand still for the life of her. Hinata felt her own thumbs twiddling as she usually did as a nervous habit. She quickly balled her hands into fists upon taking notice.
She seriously had to stop doing that.
"W-where have you been Mitsuko. You stopped wanting to hang out after you left the Leaf Academy. I got..so, so worried."
And so lonely.
Mitsuko tucked her chin further to her chest. Her dark bangs hid her eyes from Hianta who was having a hard time reading her friend. "Say something 'Suko-chan!" Hinata asks exasperatedly.
"I don't know what to say!" Mitsuko suddenly yells. "That school was horrible Hinata..you know this. I hated it, and I wanted a break from it all. Is that so bad?" Her eyes were moist with tears but she held them back.
Hinata felt a wave of sadness rush over her. On one hand, Mitsuko was right. The Leaf Academy took everything out of her, and there was no way she'd ever go back. But Hinata couldn't get over the fact that Mitsuko never came back for her, her own best friend. What could have possibly been more important than their friendship? She pushed those thoughts away, deeming them immature and stupid. Mitsuko was here now, wasn't she?
That's what mattered.

And it would matter even less as time went on, those obsolete days of elementary long gone. Hinata was now older, growing into her beauty and becoming the embodiment of young womanhood. Her hair went past her shoulders, dark navy in colour and sporting her usual hime cut. Her eyes, still holding child wonderment and curiosity, were the same opaque coloring that ran in her family. She was curvy, often times having trouble hiding her assets in her traditional school uniform as she grew into her figure.
"We should consider it 'Hina-chan..! We're about to be second years, we deserve to experience that at an actual highschool." Mitsuko raved on at the corner table they sat in. It was the last day of school for their first year and the girls always got ice cream at the end of a normal school day.
Hinata had been attending an all girl school with Mitsuko and the both of them were a tad bored. Their peers were great, and they both made a ton of friends, but there were hardly any school activities, no dances or fun clubs, and most importantly; no boys. Mitsuko had been an extremist since they were kids so suggesting that the pair go to public school during their second and third years was right up her alley.
Hinata stares out of the windowpane. Public schooling sounded fun, adventurous even. But the last time Hinata had went to school publicly hadn't gone so well. She was bullied majority of the time there and Konohagakure was not as big as it seemed. Social media kept everybody connected and well-known. There was no telling where her tormentors went and if they'd just start their targeted hate against her again. "Hey," Mitsuko placed her hand over her own. Hinata smiles and sighs softly at the gesture. "You know I'd never let anyone mess with us ever again right?"
"I know.."
"Look, if you really don't wanna, then we don't have to go to Konoha High. It was only a suggestion."
Hinata weighed her options. It wouldn't be the same as so long ago. She began reasoning with herself and weighing her options. She had Mitsuko now, and Lee, and all the other girls from Seisen High. She'd be alright. "Okay..okay. I'll talk to my father and see if he'll let me."
"Yes, yes!" Mitsuko fist pumps the air. "It's gonna be so fun Hinata! I can't wait."
"Oh I just can't wait either Hinata-chan." Mitsuko's mood instantly turns sour. Hinata looks over her shoulder to spy her cousin walking over. He had clearly overheard their conversation.
"Did she finally convince you to get out of that boring private school?" He casually asks.
"Ugh. Let's go Hinata. It suddenly smells like annoying men." Mitsuko threw her bookbag over her shoulder, her nose high in the air as she ignored Neji.
"See you at dinner Neji-niisan," Hinata parts as she rushed after her friend. Some things were bound to never change once school came back into session.
time skip! we're finally getting into the meat and potatoes of the story. next chapter we will see the consequences for chapter N's actions. had a review that someone noticed similarities to 'a silent voice' and you are so right. years ago when i read the LN and watched the movie i asked myself "what if my OTP could experience this" and bam, this book was drafted in october of 2020. two years later and im still not done..

please R&R!
background facts;
i think this is the weakest chapter i've made. it's felt incomplete for so long and i have no idea how to fix it so i had my beta do their job and this is what we were able to come up with. i am however excited because this chapter is the time skip and the start of the actual ship.
much love,,
