It's been two weeks since Alex and Kara's first day of school, there hasn't been any sign of the reverse flash or anything from earth two yet. All of team flash have been on edge since they caught Dr. Light, Oliver and Felicity left back to Star City, and Ralph got a gig following some rich guy. It's two days till Halloween and of course Kara has no idea what it is.
Kara walked into the cortex with Alex right behind. "Hey Alex, I've been wanting to ask, what is Halloween? I've been hearing about it everywhere?"
"Halloween is a holiday where we dress up as our favorite people or things, and give out free candy to kids." Alex explained
"Free candy?" Kara stopped abruptly grabbing Alex and turning her to face her getting really serious. At that moment Caitlin came in hearing the conversation.
"Kara sweetie just because you can't gain weight doesn't mean you can eat a lot of candy." Caitlin said being the good parent.
"I hope you get fat." Alex commented , clearly jealous of her sister's fast metabolism.
"Jealous!" Kara shot back
"NO!" Alex protested "a little" Alex pouted, plopping in Cisco's swivel chair.
"It's alright Alex, I'm jealous of their fast metabolism too." Caitlin said, comforting Alex.
Barry flashed out of the cortex then came in with a map with red x's marking places in the city. "Ok girls I mapped out places where they give out the most candy and full size candy bars for you girls." Barry placed the map on the floor of the cortex, and Kara's eyes went wide at the mention of candy bars.
"Of course you'd have a map." Caitlin rolled her eyes at the man child that is her boyfriend.
"Alright party people, let's get to decorating this place." Cisco walked in with a box of decorations. Barry at that moment used his speed to put up the decorations, in seconds there were orange and black streamers, fake spider webs covering every desk and parts of the walls and tv's screens, a fake skeleton sitting at Cisco's desk, and two big pumpkins sitting on Caitlins desk.
"Well a little warning next time." Cisco said still holding the box
"Dad, can my friend Winn come with us to Halloween?" Kara asked
"Trick or treating sweetie." Caitlin corrected
Barry froze when hearing a boy's name, and raised an eyebrow to his daughter. Caitlin enjoying Barry's reaction to Kara mentioning a boy just snorted trying not to laugh.
"Kara, who's 'Winn'?" Caitlin asked after a few minutes of giggled.
Kara perkes up. "Oh Winn is my friend from school, he's actually a big fan of dad." Kara explained
"So he likes the Flash?" Caitlin asked since Barry still couldn't say a single word.
"No, he's a fan of dad..dad, the man who owns STAR Labs." Kara corrected.
"Me? Why would he be a fan of me?" Barry asked, wondering why anyone would pay attention to him.
"He told me he's a nerd, whatever that means." Kara said.
Nerd, a person who has special interests in comic books and science.
"Well if his parents are ok with it then 'WE' are ok with it." Caitlin looked at Barry with raised eyebrows.
Barry looked at Caitlin with a 'oh i'm going to kill someone' look on his face. "Yeah we're totally ok with it." Barry gritted through his teeth.
The next day Kara walked into the kitchen ready for school, she sat at the bar next to the kitchen counter, she put in her eye contact and turned on her hearing aids.
As Kara put on her hearing aids, Caitlin was making Breakfast and Alex watched Kara get ready. "Kara?" Kara looked at Alex. "What exactly do you say when people ask about the um.." Alex pointed to her ear.
"I tell them the truth, it helps me control my hearing." Kara responded.
"You know there's a condition called hyperacusses (Hyper-a-cue-sis) . It's a rare hearing disorder that causes sounds which would seem normal to most people, would sound unbearably loud." Caitlin said, pouring orange juice for Kara.
"Ok I'll just say that then." Kara shrugged and started eating the pancakes her mother made for them.
"Alex don't forget we have the adoption papers to sign today and we need you both to come straight to the lab today. No stopping at the convenience store." Caitlin ordered, raising an eyebrow.
"ugh, yes mom." Alex said not thinking about what she said and walked out of the kitchen to get ready for school. Caitlin just stood there frozen trying to process what Alex had said.
"Mom, are you ok?" Kara frowned her eyebrows, wondering why she was just standing there.
"Yes sweetie, I'm ok." Caitlin answered smiling
"morning baby." Barry kissed Caitlin on her cheek, then went to pour himself some orange juice.
Caitling blinked out of her thoughts, and set down a plate next to Kara and served the love of her life
"Oh Babe… I'm going to be late to the lab, I have an errand to run." Barry finished his food, kissed Caitlin, then walked out of the kitchen. Caitlin was about to ask Barry what his errand was but he had already flashed out of the house. Caitlin was left to gather her things and take her daughters to school.
Across town Barry came to a stop in an alleyway, he rounded the corner and walked into a building with the biggest smile on his face. He walked to the counter ready to ask the elderly woman questions.
"Hello, how can I help you young man?" the elder lady asked, mirroring Barry's smile.
"Hi… um I- um I-I don't know how this works?" Barry's smile faded, not knowing how to ask.
"It's alright, what is she like?" she asked, Barry looked confused.
"What?"
"I've been in this business long enough to know when a man wants to propose, so shall we look at some rings?" The jeweler guided Barry to a casing with engagement rings.
Barry looked at the dozens of rings, then off to the far left Barry saw the perfect one. Barry pointed at it and the elderly lady grabbed it out of the casing so Barry could get a better look at it. The ring had a big diamond in the middle and six slightly smaller ones around it and tiny ones in between them, forming the shape of a snowflake, on the band were tiny diamonds in the shape of a lightning bolt.
"It's perfect" Barry smiled thinking that the ring was made just for them.
Barry paid full price for the ring and got a blue box to hold the ring. Once out of the store he walked to the alley way and then when he saw that he was in the clear he flashed to STAR Labs.
At lunchtime Kara and Win sat at the same table everyday off to the far corner of the cafeteria. As usual Karry got one of everything. And Win got a burger and fries.
"So Win, I wanted to ask if you wanted to go trick or treating… I think that's what my mom called it." Kara asked, after finishing half of her food.
"Oh… um I don't know if I can… my new foster parents are really strict about my safety… but i'll ask tonight then i'll text you." Win said, really wanting to go out and get candy.
"Ok well I hope you get to go my dad mapped out where they give the most candy and full size candy bars." Win frowned, hoping that they'd let him go with Kara tomorrow.
Soon Kara and Alex were out of school and walking to STAR Labs. it was about a twenty minute walk from Kara's school and they were already late, so they had to hurry and get there before Frost gets mad for having her worry about their well-being.
"Come on Kara we're going to be late, we have to hurry before Frost gets mad again." Alex pulls Kara by her hand, afraid to receive Frost's death glare, and a lecture from their mother.
Kara pulled Alex into an alley and once they were in the clear Kara used her speed to get them there on time. Light blue lightning flashing through the streets and into the STAR Labs elevator. Alex, not prepared for traveling at super speed, bent over with her hands on her knees trying not to hurl.
"Aaahh, A little warning next time. Oh my god!" Alex was clutching her stomach trying not to bring back up her lunch. They ran to the cortex hoping not to get a lecture from Caitlin.
"You're late…" Caitlin said, looking at her watch.
"Only by a minute." Kara said, sitting down in Cisco's swivel chair.
"I will not let you girls end up like your father, always late. Speaking of your father, he's late." Caitlin looked down at her watch, Barry went out to get us some coffee several minutes ago. "How can you and your father have super speed and always be late?" and as she said that Barry Flashed in holding a tray with two cups of coffee, and tea for Alex and Kara from Jitters.
"Hey sorry i'm late, some old lady almost got hit by a car. Is Cecile here yet?" Barry asked, handing out the drinks and kissing Caitlin on the cheek. Caitlin smiled at her boyfriend, 'always the hero' she thought to herself.
"No thankfully" Caitlin took a sip of her coffee, her muscles relaxing from the warm liquid.
Joe and Cecile walked in from the hallway into the cortex with a stack of papers. "Alright, is everyone here?"
"Yes, everyone is here." Caitlin spoke from her spot next to Barry.
"Ok, now this is going to take a while so you guys are gonna want to get comfortable."
About three hours later, they were about done with everything. Even though they've been through this before they wanted to make sure that Alex wouldn't be taken from them as well.
Alex not having much patience has gotten completely bored out of her mind, she stared at the ceiling turning in a swivel chair. "Alrighty, now Alex, did you want to keep your birth name or take one of your new guardian's?" Cecile looked at the pixie haired teenager.
"I- I…" Alex stutterd not really knowing how to voice out her decision, she really wanted to actually be a part of her new family and take both of their names like Kara did, but her name was the last thing that connected her to her birth parents.
"Alex, it's ok if you want to keep your last name. We're not gonna be upset." Barry gave a warming smile to his soon to be daughter.
"I know you will be there for me, b- but if it's ok I would like to keep my last name…" Alex looked down at her shoes, finding them more interesting at that moment. "It's the last thing that connects me to my birth parents."
Barry let go of Caitlins hand, he slowly walked toward his soon to be daughter and brought her into a hug. "Alex, of course you can keep your birth name. We wouldn't have it any other way, all we did was give you options." Barry whispered in her ear. Caecil gave the last paper to Caillin to sign, then waited for Barry to sign.
After Barry signed, then Joe signed as a witness, Kara used her speed and engulfed Alex in a bear hug lifting her off the ground a bit, trying with all her might, to not crush her new sister.
"Kara… too tight." was all Alex was able to get out. Kara put Alex down and mouthed the word sorry.
A while after the little emotional hugs and tears, frost had enough. "Alright this is too much emotion for me today we still need to go shopping for costumes." Frost said walking away
The little Flash family arrived home after a couple of hours of shopping at the mall. Kara is always excited to go to the mall because there was this little Chinese place that she likes to go to because they make potstickers better than anywhere else. Everyone was bringing bags upon bags of stuff and Kara was sitting on the stairs by the door eating her potstickers.
"It would be nice if you could put down your food and help!" Alex yelled, dragging in a couple of bags of decorations. Kara looked up from her bowl of food and used her speed to grab the bags from Alex and put them down on the kitchen counter. Barry came in with even more bags of stuff, Frost had gotten carried away with the costumes.
Barry had tried to protest and tried to convince her to only get one, but Frost had whispered in his ear that most of them were for when they were alone in the bedroom. Needless to say Frost got what she wanted.
"Kara, can go bring in stickers? I want to see if the costume I got him fits." Caitlin pulled out a bumble bee costume from the plastic bag smiling and jumping up and down as Kara left to bring him in.
"Aww, I thought you were going to get the hot dog one?" Barry frowned a bit.
"NO!" Caitlin and Alex yelled at the same time.
"Dad, Kara would try and eat him." Alex half joked not knowing if she really would.
"No I wouldn't!" Kara exclaimed while carrying Pot stickers.
Barry was a bit taken back when Alex called him dad, even though she had been doing it since they finished signing the adoption papers.
Kara put pot stickers down as he was overly excited to see his family.
"Hi baby, are you excited to see us?" Caitlin greeted the dog.
"Ok come on girls it's late, time for bed." Barry said from his spot by the stairs.
Alex and Kara reluctantly made their way to their bedrooms to get ready for bed.
Alex was inches away from opening her door when she was engulfed in a hug. "I love you Alex." Kara barely whispered, but Alex heard it.
Alex smiled and hugged Kara back as hard as she could. "Goodnight Kara." They soon separated, then changed into their pajamas. Kara in flash pajama pants and Alex in snowflake ones.
Alex laid in bed staring at the ceiling smiling. realizing that after all she's been through, the running, the fighting to survive, she finally has a family of her own, a family that wants and loves her, and care's about her.
"I can't wait till tomorrow."
