"You know, when I agreed to work for you guys I thought this would be a good experience for me. A few bruises here, some sniffles and coughs there, maybe a broken limb from the older hero course kids. Not having 18 kids with burns, 7 different kinds of hazardous materials, and a literal living bomb." Ichigo's eye twitched as he sighed. Beside him were three people: Toshinori Yagi, currently in his skeletal 'true' form, an eldery woman with her grey hair pulled into a large bun and wearing a lab coat, Chiyo Shuzenji or Recovery Girl, and a small bear/mouse like creature with white fur and wearing a black waistcoat and black pants, principle Nezu.
"In our defense, the bomb is your own doing", Chiyo spoke up. She gave a small smirk as Ichigo started to pat his pockets for his pack but realized he left it in the other room. He growled as she continued. "When he realized that one of the injured was someone he knew, and then heard what happened...well he started to get very uppity. Never met a living firecracker."
"Firecracker? More like an infinite dynamite stick." Toshinori groaned. When Chiyo had called for him and Ichigo to check on Izuku, he wasn't expecting a bunch of kids to be there, nor was he expecting the natural disaster known as Katsuki Bakugo. "He's going to need counseling if this attitude of his keeps up. Seriously, how can someone with a good upbringing have so much anger issues?" Ichigo's eye started to twitch, he'd heard that many times in his younger days.
"Kurosaki's legacy aside, I do apologize for the many emergencies on your first day here, doctor. But this is also a few steps down from last year's entrance exam." Nezu said. The calm and slight disappointment in his voice had Ichigo stare at the small mammal in a mix of horror and confusion. This was a few steps down?! "The good thing is, with your and Chiyo's medical expertise and supplies from your own hospital, everyone is fine and will go home by the end of the day. Now then, if no one has any objections, I say we have some tea and let the staff you brought with you handle the small stuff."
Ichigo needed a smoke, it wasn't even 1 pm and he felt the need to inhale an entire pack. 'Was coming here actually worth it? Will I find what I need here or is this place just showing me there's a lost cause in the end? And how the hell do I tell Mitsuki and Inko that their sons are both screwed up, mentally and physically between the two?' Ichigo's thoughts stopped as he felt Toshinori's hand on his shoulder.
"I know that look, and whatever is bugging you can be figured out later. We still have two months 'til the semester starts. Now come on, let's have some tea and check on everyone." Toshinori smiled as he saw Ichigo come back from his thoughts.
"For once its not my depressed thoughts winning, its what I tell their mothers," Ichigo grumbled.
"Not my problem so have fun with that."
"Go to hell."
Pain. Searing, bone shattering pain is all he felt. Well that, hunger, and two weights on his arms. Thank god they weren't on his legs, those felt like crap that had been beaten, put in a blender at high speed, and then set on fire. 'Note to self: Do not jump into the sky without a way to get back down to earth safely.' Izuku knew he had destroyed his body when defeating the 0-Pointer, but would do so again if it meant protecting someone, like that happy-girl or Kendo. He'd break every bone he had to protect people like that...wait. 'Kendo? Happy-girl? Oh crap!'
Izuku forced his eyes open and then regretted every bit of that action as the bright rays of light stabbed at them. He blinked a few times as he slowly got his bearings. Looking around he noticed he was in a hospital room, and judging by the various machines and tubings connected to him, an ICU room. He looked down at his body, hoping it wasn't as bad as his pain receptors made him believe. To his surprise and utter shock, two girls around his age were asleep beside his bed. Both sitting on opposite sides, a familiar bubbly brunette was using his left arm as a pillow while his right hand was being held by Kendo in her sleep. Both looked peaceful, but also showed signs of exhaustion and stress.
'What the? Why are they here? Just to see me? But...why?' Izuku was baffled by his, what many would consider, luck. Two cute girls were there to see him recover, and both had stayed and fell asleep there. "No one will ever believe this," Izuku said quietly to himself.
"I wouldn't say that since I took pictures, dumbass." Izuku jumped and looked more to his right. Against the wall was Katsuki, looking even more pissed than he was after the slime incident, yet he somehow was keeping his voice to a low growl. "Do you know how loud those two and those other extras were? I swore the old man and that small hag were going to throw me out with them if they hadn't gotten quiet. Now because of your stupid ass being in here, I'm stuck here too! The Hag wants me to 'look after you'. I'm keeping these pics as blackmail for this."
"What? Pics? Wait Kacchan, don't keep those! Delete them before someone hears you!" Izuku hissed at him. Katsuki just smirked and waved his phone at the bedridden soul.
"Now then, I'm going to go get a drink, text me when you get out of this shithole, I want to go home." Katsuki pushed off the wall and walked out of the room.
Izuku watched his friend leave before looking down at his two current roommates. 'How do I explain this?!'
Two weeks had passed since the exam date, not one of the examinees hearing a response from UA. All were nervous but one. Instead of nerves, a cloud of defeat hung over Izuku as he went through his last few days of middle school. He barely focused in class, hardly ate, and even tried playing video games but those did nothing to help. KingOfGames had asked him what was going on, wondered where Green_Soul had disappeared to for a while before seeing him online again. Izuku just had responded with "I've had a lot of stuff with school and family." KingOfGames left it at that and invited Izuku to play a few matches but Izuku just wasn't into it. After a few rounds, KingOfGames wished him good luck with everything and to send him a message when he "got over the funk."
His mother had tried to get him out of his dark thoughts but to no avail. Katsuki even was less harsh on Izuku for once, mainly due to his own parents telling him to help and that Izuku's words about getting back at he guy from the entrance exam rang in his mind. Katsuki even scanned and sent the notes in class to the Midoriya household, though that was on his mother's nagging. Izuku was laying in his bed, staring at random sites on his phone as his mind drifted. 'I wonder what they're all doing? Itsuka and Ochako said they were going to be busy with family, but what about the others? Kirishima said he was busy with personal things, Shishda with a project, and Reiko said something about a bookstore. Maybe I could ask Shishida or Reiko if they... wanted to... hang out?' He felt awkward about that since he didn't know them that well, and that he couldn't muster the courage to ask a girl to hang out.
After waking the girls that were on his arms, and after a bit of awkwardness, the girls had gotten everyone in the room that had been there. Kirishima, Reiko and Shishida were there to thank Izuku, but they all felt bad that he had lost his points to save them, Ochako and Itsuka especially. Trying to boost the mood, Kirishima wondered if they all wanted to chat via text messages and they all agreed that it was a good idea. Reiko had wanted them to call her by her first name saying she wanted to be friends with the group, the guys just called each other by last names until further notice. After being given the ok signal to be let out, the group hung around Izuku until Katsuki and Ichigo showed up to take him home. The new friends were wary of them due to Katsuki's demeanor and earlier meeting, but Ichigo was able to be mediator and they calmed a bit. The trio left after Izuku said his goodbyes.
He decided to get something to eat from the fridge and walked out to the hallway of the apartment when he heard his mother shriek. "IZUKU!!!"
He charged down the hallway to living room to see her scrambling to get off the floor with a letter in her hands. "IZUKU!! I-ITS HERE!!!"
"Mom?! Wait- what?!" He was panicking thinking she was hurt but when she shoved the letter into his hand he saw the senders name 'UA', and panicked more. "Wait! Is this?!"
"Yes! Now go open it!" Inko was a mess of nerves. Izuku did as she wanted and ran back to his room and sat down at his desk, just staring at the envolope. Anxiety, excitement, trepidation, the fear if the unknown coalesced within Izuku before gripped the enveloped edges.
'Let's just get the failing part over with.' Thought Izuku as he pulled the envelope in two. Imagine his surprise when instead if a paper note, a metal disc landed on his table with a loud 'Thunk'. Staring at it for a moment, the boy couldn't really understand what was going on. Looking back at the envelope he saw there was no paper letter, just the disc that now lay on his desk. Grabbing and looking it over, Izuku didn't find anything unusual about the disc, besides the no obvious buttons. "What is this thing-"
"I AM HERE!"
"AHHHH!" Startled by All Might suddenly appearing as a hologram, Izuku dropped the disc on his desk. It landed and wobbled but settled with All Might standing up correctly.
"Forgive me Young Midoryia, but I imagine that scare would be quite a funny sight." All Might grinned. "Also FYI, I cannot actually reply to you, as this is prerecorded and- what?" Holo-Might looked to his left. "Speed this up? I have how many to do?!" Izuku looked at the hologram with a small bit of exasperation. Leave it to his teacher to still be clueless about things other than being a hero. He shook his head and tuned back to what Holo-Might was saying.
"-you did well in the written exam, top ten overall, and were doing great during the practical. Up until you took on the Zero Pointer. 58 Villain points gone in an instant. I'm sorry Young Midoriya." Holo-Might had a solemn look to his face. Izuku was about to turn the recording off, no need to hear the rest. "However, we wouldn't be a hero school if we didn't take into account our students doing, well, hero work, now would we?" That stopped the boy. "You helped your fellow examinees with the lesser bots and even tried to get them out safely. Then you did something unthinkable, you beat the Zero-Pointer. Saving two young women that you saw and a few others in the exam site. You not only scored 58 Villain points, but also scored 80 Rescue points. You made it in 138 points total. Close to my own and Endeavors 147 and 143 points respectfully."
Izuku's eyes widened as tears began to flow. "Now I had to pull some strings to show you this but if it was allow ti give points, you would have beaten our scores". The hologram turns in to a small video feed of two familiar girls running up to Present Mic. It showed them trying to give their points away to help him pass the exam. All Mic did was assure them everything would be fine and to just wait. The feed went back to Holo-Might. "Now isn't that heartwarming. You made them and even a few others try to pool their points for you. All through your deeds. The mark of a true Hero is inspiring others to help. Congratulations, Izuku Midoriya, you passed. Welcome to your Hero Academia."
Itsuka was having a frustrating two weeks, first she had to deal with her annoying best friends asking for more details about her exam and how she was "rescued by her knight", then her family wanting help with the dojo, when she really wanted to meet with her new friends. The nerve wracking letter of UA finally came and even though she passed, she couldn't help but remember that is cost someone else a spot. 'Midoriya, that idiot.' She smiled and then frowned. She wasn't angry at him, grateful really, but angry that she couldn't get herself out of the exam, forcing him to fail. He should've passed but he stayed to save her and the other girl, 'Uraraka', she corrected herself.
Uraraka was another train of thought. Both of the girls had done well in the exams, but after those final moments, neither had felt like they should have. They had discussed this through various texts and a couple phone calls. Both were still a little ticked off about Present Mic's nonchalantly tell them to see how things panned out. "I really hoped we could've done something for Midoriya, now its all up to fate. I'm sorry, but…we will make sure your spot wasn't wasted." She wanted to cry out of anger again before her phone buzzed.
Looking over at it she read from the latest text from the new group chat. Here eyes went wide and a giddy smile grew on her face
Uraraka blew raspberries at the ceiling, the last handful of days were boring and gnawing at her guts. She could only do so much in a town she didn't know about. She was staying in an apartment her parents had build years ago and the owner was letting her stay rent free as long as she got in. That alone had worried here until a few days ago. She had thought her parents would have to pay a week and half amount worth of rent when they were struggling financially already, but that acceptance letter killed that one issue. Her other issue, however, had only gotten worse.
She had done relatively well in the exam, ending with 73 points thanks to saving Deku. Well, his name was Midoriya bit his friend called him Deku so she thought that was his nickname. Either way, she made it in but she felt so guilty! 'It's all my fault he failed! If I hadn't gotten trapped, he could have passed the exam and we would be ok…. I'm so scared to tell him I'm sorry. Is that ok?! Would that be spitting on his dream? Oh god of course it would!' Thoughts like these had plagued her for the last two days the worse than the ever since the exam. A ding on her phone halted her thoughts and as she looked at it and read, she started to smile and had some tears form.
