Author's Notes: Not really edited. I do apologize in advance for the poor work this may be (referring to plot line, grammar, etc.). Honestly the only way I really edit is read it quickly a few times and use the spell check grammar check function and that is pretty much it. Still feel free to point them out if you wish.

Will admit, not 100% happy with how I ended this chapter, but the words I wanted to put down just did not come out. I still wanted to upload this, but please note that I might go back and change this chapter. If that does happen, I am sorry for any changes/confusion this might cause.

Also, will begin to start using the names Marcus and Rebecca more starting from this chapter. Will start transitioning Harry and Hermione out name wise. So please do not be confused when this happens.

Chapter 3 – New Beginning

Green. The moment she opened the door she saw green eyes staring right back at her. She was not sure as to the reason why, but she stood there and noticed the man rub his eyes and looked at his the lady standing next to him in clear disbelief before looking back at her with great intensity. She began to fidget a bit as the uncomfortable silence dragged on and she looked back fear beginning to overcome her with the prolonged silence.

"Girl!" Her uncle yelled from the living room, "Who is it?"

She jumped a bit at the voice, her mind starting to panic as she clearly wanted to respond, but for some reason unable too. Out of sheer habit, she began to fidget with her hair. She noticed that the brown haired lady next to the man with the green eyes let out a gasp, causing her to start a bit once more.

"Harry," she heard the lady say as the lady reached for the man by the elbow.

"Yeah," the man answered as he slowly turned to look at the young lady next to him once more before they both looked back at her once more.

"You!" a loud voice suddenly hissed at her as she felt a large hand grab her by the arm and yanking her away from the door. With a small yelp she suddenly came face to face with her uncle.

"Go back into your room, now!" he hissed at her in a low voice as his face began to redden in anger.

"Bu-"

"Now!" he stated in a low voice, "Can't even answer the door properly. We will be talking about this later!"

"We do not want any solicitors!" she heard her uncle state loudly as she ran to the cupboard to her room.

She immediately opened the door to the cupboard and scrambled in and closed the door shut muffling any response the strangers made. Iris tried to calm herself down as she was breathing heavily. She knew she messed up badly by not responding to her uncle right away, but the eyes that stared back at her made her pause. There never was such green eyes and the only one she knew who had such eyes were… hers.

After a few moments, she heard the shrill voice of her aunt and after what seemed to be some loud arguments and the door slamming shut and nothing but silence. She leaned against the door to try and hear and heard movement of several people walking by her cupboard towards the living room. From there, she heard several voices murmuring amongst each other with her uncle's distinct voice rising a bit before calming down. Time ticked by and it felt like hours passed before she heard movement coming from the living room and stop just in front of her door. Quickly, she moved back away from the door as she heard the door open revealing the two strangers, her uncle and aunt standing on the other side, all of them looking rather exhausted.

"Get out," her uncle spoke to her in a gruff manner. Without any hesitation, she immediately scrambled out and stood in front of the adults.

The brown haired lady knelt in front of her giving her a warm smile.

"Hello, Iris." The lady spoke, "It is a pleasure to meet you. My name Rebecca."

Iris nodded a little dumbfounded that this Rebecca was taking the time to speak with her. A quick glance at her aunt and uncle revealed they were clearly uncomfortable with this situation.

"Marcus and I," Rebecca continued as she nodded towards the young man next to her, "would like you to come and live with us."

Iris looked at Rebecca and then slowly turned to look at the man, Marcus.

"Why?" Iris asked after a long pause.

That seemed to have caught Rebecca off guard for a bit and before Rebecca spoke, Marcus laid a hand on Rebecca's shoulder causing the lady to look up and then relent with a slight nod.

"Before we continue, can we move the discussion back to the living room, Aunt Petunia?" he asked.

Immediately Aunt Petunia motioned the others to the living room with Uncle Vernon grumbling a bit more.

It took some time for the group to be settled and another few more moments before Marcus spoke up again.

"Iris," he began immediately catching her attention, "have you ever felt there was something... strange that occurred around you? Things you could not just explain, that were impossible?"

"I-I.." Iris started just before Uncle Vernon butted in.

"Stop, I forbid y-!" he started, but immediately silenced when Marcus glared at him.

"The bandage is already being peeled off the wound, Uncle," Marcus retorted, "And the sooner we get this done, the sooner you do not have to worry about this anymore."

Uncle? Iris thought. She noted that Marcus called Aunt Petunia as aunt. From what she remembered, she had no siblings. Aunt Petunia had no other siblings other than her mother who passed away in a car accident. Uncle Vernon only had Aunt Marge on his side and judging by Marcus' looks, he clearly did not take after that side of the family.

"B-but," Uncle Vernon began.

"Look," Rebecca intervened, "There is no need to drag this on much longer than needed. Mr. Dursley, you would like us to leave as soon as possible, which we shall. We just want to clarify things quickly with Iris before we leave and should you prefer, that would be the last you see of us."

Vernon glared at the young lady and if looks could kill, the brown haired stranger would have been immediately dead on the floor.

"After this, you will not likely have to deal with us and we may be able to solve your issue," Rebecca persisted.

It was a while before Vernon Dursley slowly gave in and nodded grimly in agreement.

"So, Iris," Marcus addressed her once more, "Has there ever been any strange things that occurred?

Iris looked at her Uncle once more, who looked to turn into a shade of purple. He clearly was restraining himself, despite how much the questions bothered him.

"Answer him, girl," he growled.

She turned and gave a slight nod at Marcus before speaking, her voice barely above a whisper.

"There were times that I was being chased and I would somehow end up being on top of the roof of buildings after being chased."

Marcus nodded at her in encouragement.

"There was also another time, when Aunt Petunia had my hair cut short, but it all grew back."

"Did you also had one where Dudley's old sweater shrinking so much that you could no longer wear it?"

Iris, her aunt, and uncle all started at that. Marcus smiled a rather playful and mischievous smile.

"Happened, to me too," he stated, still giving her a warm smile. This brought about a flood of questions.

"Who are you?" Iris asked, "Do you know what is going on? What is happened? Why are you here? What-"

"Whoa!" Marcus responded while holding his hands up to stop Iris who immediately shut her mouth and shrunk a bit, slightly mortified that she acted in such manner to someone she hardly knew. She turned a bit to steal a glance at her uncle surely expecting him to promise punishment once the strangers left.

"Iris," Marcus caught her attention again before she could clearly see her uncle's face.

"Let's slow down on the questions and Rebecca and I will try to explain as much as we can. He then turned to Rebecca and muttered, "I swear she resembles you more than me."

"Hey!" Rebecca started causing him to chuckle.

"I know, but the way Iris asked questions was just like you back in First Year," Marcus stated causing Rebecca to blush in embarrassment.

Marcus immediately straightened himself again once he saw the other two were less than pleased with the situation derailing.

"To answer your questions," he responded, "My name is Marcus Evans and I guess you can say I am your cousin."

"Cousin?" Iris asked suspiciously causing Marcus to look a bit uncomfortable as he started to mess with his hair.

"Well, yeah."

"Then where were you? How come Aunt Petunia did not mention you at all?"

"We are a part of family that lives a different world than Aunt Petunia does."

"What do you mean?"

"All those questions, I asked before, Iris," Marcus stated, "has to do about us. Rebecca is a witch, I am a wizard, and you are also a witch."

Silence descended the room as Iris blinked several times slowly trying to comprehend what Marcus just stated.

"I- I'm a what?"

"A witch," Marcus stated while smiling gently at her, "All those things that happened, things you did or thing that happened to you that you cannot explain. It is because you can do magical things. Magic exists and you, Iris, are a witch."

Iris stood there looking dumbfounded by the news, there was no way that was true. Magic did not exist, could it? She was just a… freak.

"Do you want me to show you?" Marcus asked her as he pulled out what looked to be a stick, causing Petunia and Rebecca to gasp. Before either could say anything Marcus spoke.

"Lumos."

In front of her eyes, a soft glow appeared at the tip of the stick bringing forth mixed reactions. Rebecca looked alarmed at the spell. Petunia and Vernon both looked in fear and mild disgust. For Iris, all she felt was warmth and awe.

For a brief moment the two pairs of green eyes looked on, one in wonder at the light, as if it held all information that she sought. The other in joy in sharing such a word to another, a world that while there was much pain and suffering, still held much meaning to him.

"Ha-Marcus, the Statute!" Rebecca hissed breaking the attention of the two who blinked owlishly for a brief moment before looking at the young lady who clearly looked in alarm.

At first Marcus looked at Rebecca in confusion until his eyes widened in alarm as well. But it was only for a brief moment.

"It should be fine," He replied, "When I casted several times I did not receive any notice. It was at the time when Dobby used magic when Aunt Marge when the letter arrived. Before then, when I accidently used magic, there was no letter or any warning from the Ministry.

Rebecca still looked worried, "If you are sure..."

"We can only hope," Marcus started until Petunia intervened.

"Marge?" she asked, "As in Majorie?"

Marcus let out a sigh and responded back, "Yes, Aunt Petunia, just like Aunt Marge."

Before Aunt Petunia was about to speak, Marcus held up a hand causing both her Aunt and Uncle to flinch. Marcus held up his other hand and motioned clearly that he did not intend any harm allowing her aunt and uncle to relax a bit.

"Before we continue with this, why don't we ask Iris once more?" At her aunt's nod, Marcus turned around and looked at her.

"So, Iris," he spoke to her smiling a rather pleasant smile, "Do you want to know come with Rebecca and I and learn more about magic?"

Iris stared at him still in disbelief and whispered, "Is this real? Do you truly mean to take me away from here?"

Marcus nodded.

That was all she needed. She immediately threw herself at Marcus who held her close as she began to cry with joy.

After what seemed like a few moments, Rebecca gently placed her hand on Iris, "Iris, why don't we get your belongings and we can head out? I think Marcus would like to speak with your Aunt and Uncle a bit more before."

That did bring up some protests with Marcus interrupting the protest, "I promise, I will be brief. It looked like you had some questions, Aunt Petunia. I want to make sure I answer those for you and any questions Uncle Vernon might want to know just in case."

Her uncle was about to voice his opinion rather loudly, but Marcus looked at him, "Just in case," he repeated.

Rebecca took Iris to the cupboard and began to take what few meagre belongings she had before the two said their goodbyes. After confirming with Marcus once more, Rebecca then took Iris out and they walked.

They walked for a few blocked until they were in a more isolated area where the neighbourhood was quiet.

"Iris," Rebecca caught her attention, "I will need you to hold onto me for a bit and don't let go until I say so."

Iris looked at Rebecca, confusion clear in her eyes.

"We will be using a magical way to travel and it might feel a little unpleasant," Rebecca informed her.

Seeing Iris, expression, Rebecca immediately reassured her.

"It really is not that bad, just makes you feel quite disoriented."

"Alright," Iris replied back still a bit hesitant.

"Hold on tight," Rebecca said once more and Iris suddenly gripped tighter.

The next thing she knew, Iris saw sudden darkness and felt as if she was being pressed very hard from every direction. It was as if someone tried to force her into a small confined space and then tried to push the rest of her into herself. Just before Iris began to panic, she suddenly felt the pressure lighten as she was suddenly thrown out to another area that she did not recognise.

It was only due to her holding onto Rebecca which allowed her to still stay standing.

"Well," Rebecca said as she tried to help Iris orient herself, "That was not that bad. You did a great job on your first Apparition."

"Ap-apparition?" Iris repeated.

Rebecca beamed at her and nodded before looking away in slight concentration, "I guess the closest non-magical would be teleportation and the idea of moving things from one place to another almost instantaneously."

While it was still a bit confusing, the explanation did help somewhat and she listened while Rebecca began to go into further details on Apparition as they walked up a path that led to a small flat.

Rebecca momentarily let go of Iris hands as she pulled out a key to unlock the door and let her and Iris in.

Iris looked in wonder and awe at the small cosy two-bedroom unit that, according to Rebecca, Rebecca and Marcus shared.

The used one room as their bedroom and used another as a study. Rebecca informed her that they were in the process of moving things out of the study so that she could use the room as her own bedroom.

Iris tried to protest but, with Rebecca's firm insistence, relented.

At Rebecca's encouragement, Iris watched in fascination as Rebecca pulled out a long stick and began to speak strange words and see items in the second room move and clean up. After what seemed like nearly half an hour and an exhausted Rebecca, the whole room was cleaned with a brand new bed, small study and chair and several drawers as well as a mini vanity.

Iris did learn that some of the magic that Rebecca used was Transfiguration and it would be something that she herself would learn and eventually be able to do herself.

After having a filling meal, actually being able to take a proper wash and finally wearing what was her first new clothing since as far as she can remember, Iris and Rebecca relaxed together side by side and decided to take a quick nap as they waited on Marcus and what Rebecca noted would be the signed adoption papers that would officially have her be under their care.

While Iris was still half convinced that this was all just a good dream, she grabbed onto Rebecca's hand and looked at Rebecca as Rebecca looked back at her in question.

"Thank you," Iris said softly.

This resulted in Rebecca bringing Iris in closer into an embrace as the two lay down on Iris' new bed.

It was not long until Marcus arrived with signed papers and confirming with Rebecca that adoption papers were sent through and everything was finally sorted.

Not long after that, Iris found herself celebrating with the other two over a wonderful dinner where she truly had the change to start experiencing what a normal child was like.

Perhaps, this will be a start of a new life for her with a new family.
