Here's the next Chapter! I hope y'all enjoy!

After an emotional morning, Saturday turned out to be an "okay" day for the partners. Hailey hadn't been feeling much like doing housework that week, so she wanted to make sure everything was caught up for when Vanessa returned the following day. Jay stuck around to help, despite much protest from Hailey, who said she was more than capable of cleaning her own apartment.

That night, Jay cooked Steaks for dinning... instead of the usual take out.

"This is amazing!" Hailey said, taking her first bite.

"I'm glad you like it." Jay said, with a smile.

"How did I NOT know you were such a good cook?" Hailey asked, gently reaching over and patting Jay playfully on the shoulder.

"You better not tell anyone..." Jay said, playfully pointing his finger in his partner's direction. "You'll ruin my reputation."

Hailey burst out laughing at this point. "Your reputation?" she asked.

"Hey... I can't have everyone know that I cook, clean, and do dishes. Everyone will think I'm a softy or something." Jay said with a laugh.

"You're a great guy, Jay." Hailey said, the words slipping out before she had a chance to stop them.

There was a moment of silence that filled the room. Jay could tell by the way Hailey's facial expression changed to a more serious one, that she wasn't joking around anymore.

Jay laughed, nervously. "I guess I have my moments."

"You do..." Hailey said, a soft smiled pierced her lips, before looking down at her lap. "

"Just make sure you don't tell anyone..." Jay said with a smile, hoping to bring back the lighter mood and banter they'd been sharing that evening.

"Jay I..." Hailey started, looking down at first but then looking back up to meet Jay's gaze. "I can't thank you enough for this week... I don't know how I would have gotten through it without you."

"Hey..." Jay said, reaching for Hailey's hand and taking it in his. "Hailey, you have nothing to thank me for... we're partners and this is what partners do."

"Is it?" Hailey asked, there was a nervousness in her voice.

"Of course!" Jay said. "Hailey, you're more than just my partner... you're my best friend. I care a lot about you and I... I want to make sure you're okay. I wish you would have told me what happened sooner, but I'm glad you did. It makes me... so angry, when I think about what happened to you. You didn't deserve that... but, I'm glad that I was able to be here for you."

"I... don't know what to say, besides... thank you." Hailey said, softly. "I'm not really used to someone having my back like that."

"I told you... I'm not going anywhere, Hailey." Jay said.

The rest of the night passed by quickly and eventfully. After dinner, the partners cleared the table and did the dishes. Then, they both showered and settled in to watch a movie. Jay sat on the far end of the couch, his back leaning up against the side of the couch. Hailey sat beside Jay, his arm was wrapped loosely around her frame, she was resting her head on shoulder.

When the movie finished and the credits rolled, Jay looked down at his partner, realizing that she had drifted off to sleep. God, I'm going to miss this... Jay thought to himself.

When Jay reached over to grab a throw blanked to cover Hailey with, she woke up. Looking around, somewhat startled. Jay wasn't sure if he had woke her by trying to get the blanket or if she'd been woken by another nightmare.

"Hey, easy..." Jay said, softly.

"Jay?" Hailey questioned, still looking a bit dazed.

"Yeah, it's Jay..." Jay replied, softly. "Why don't we get you to bed?"

Hailey nodded. The two walked down the hallway to Hailey's bedroom. Jay made sure Hailey was in her bed, he tucked her in, before turning to go. He was just about to leave the room when a small voice stopped him.

"Jay..." Hailey whispered.

"Yeah?" Jay replied, turning around to face her.

"Can you... can you just..." Hailey was struggling to get out the words, but Jay sensed what she was trying to ask.

Jay walked back over to the bed, climbing in. Jay took Hailey into his arms, she wrapped her arms around him too, laying her head on his chest.

"Thank You..." Hailey whispered.

Before long, the partners drifted off to sleep. No nightmares plagued Hailey that night... because with Jay there, she felt safe.

Morning seemed to come all too soon. Jay made breakfast, they ate together quickly and cleaned up the mess.

"Do you want me to drive you to the airport?" Jay asked, as Hailey grabbed her jacket. She was in a rush to leave to pick up Vanessa.

"No... I think I'll be fine." Hailey said. "But, thanks Jay... for everything."

Jay pulled Hailey into a hug. "You don't need to thank me." he said.

Hailey's eyes filled with tears. "I've just... never had anyone do something like this for me." she cried. "Sorry, I know I'm being a sap..."

"Hailey, you're not being a sap..." Jay said. "We're good, we're always going to be good. Even though Vanessa is coming back, I'm only a call away if you need anything."

"Thank You..." Hailey whispered.

The partners stood there, lost in each other's arms for a few moments, before Hailey finally pulled away.

"I uh... I really should get to the airport." Hailey said.

Jay nodded. "Call me later?"

"For sure!" Hailey said.

With that, the two left the apartment. They walked out to their vehicles together, before parting ways.

Sunday Afternoon...

"I'm glad you had a nice visit." Hailey said to Vanessa, as the two walked into the apartment.

"It was truly amazing!" Vanessa said. "I can't wait to do it again."

"I bet!" Hailey said.

"So, you've been pretty quiet Hails... how was your week?" Vanessa asked, with a smile on her face.

"It was... long." Hailey replied.

"I see." Vanessa said. "Did you spend anymore time with that hot guy, what was his name? James?"

Hailey cringed when she heard his name roll off her friend's lips. She shook her head.

"Girl, I'm telling you... you've just to live a little." Vanessa said, as she walked down the hallway to put her luggage in her bedroom.

"Oh my God!" Vanessa yelled, from the hallway... causing Hailey to jump.

"What's wrong?" Haile called out.

"WHY does the hallway and bathroom smell like men's cologne?" Vanessa asked, as she walked back into the living room with a huge smile on her face.

"It's not what you think..." Hailey replied, looking down.

"I thought you said you didn't spend anymore time with that hottie?" Vanessa teased.

Hailey shook her head. "I didn't..."

"Hailey Ann... do not lie to me!" Vanessa said, with a smile. "I know a man has been staying here, I can smell him!"

"It's not like that..." Hailey said, she could feel herself losing control of her emotions. Hot tears began pricking her eyes, so she looked away.

"Girl, come on!" Vanessa said. "This is me you're talking to! You can tell me anything and besides, there's nothing wrong with you and hottie hooking up."

"Jay was here while you were gone..." Hailey spat out, quickly. Unable to take hearing her friend refer to her rapist as a hottie...

"What!?" Vanessa shouted, clapping her hands together once. "I KNEW there was something going on between the two of you. Always giving each other puppy eyes and..."

"Jay and I are just friends..." Hailey said, cutting Vanessa off.

"Just friends don't sleep over when the roommate is out of town." Vanessa said, laughing.

Vanessa hadn't noticed how upset her friend was getting, until Hailey sat down on the couch and buried her face into her hands. Her body shook as sobs overtook her.

"Hailey?" Vanessa said, softly, as she suddenly raised something was very wrong.

Hailey didn't respond, she just continued to sob.

Vanessa walked over to the couch, sitting down beside her friend. "Hailey?" she said again, gently touching her friend's shoulder.

Hailey recoiled immediately, pulling back... her whole body flinched at her friend's touch.

"Hailey, what happened?" Vanessa asked, softly.

"That night... after I left the bar... I was... I was..." Hailey tried to get out through her sobs.

Suddenly, it all made sense & Vanessa had a bad feeling that she knew what Hailey was trying to say.

"Oh my God!" Vanessa cried. "Hailey, why didn't tell me? I would have stayed here with you."

"Jay stayed here... with me..." Hailey cried.

"Are you alright?" Vanessa asked.

Hailey nodded. "I will be..."

"I'm so sorry girl!" Vanessa said. "Can I hug you?"

Hailey nodded. Vanessa carefully wrapped her arms around her friend. They sat there on the couch, just holding each other, and they both cried.
